I have never been a steel snob. I have all Cold Steel knives & tools and each one came out razor sharp and ready to go. I have AUS8A, AUS10A, 420J2, CPMS35VN, 8CR13MOV, 8CR14MOV, 52100, 4116SS, 4034SS, VG1 SAN MAI, SK5, and 420SS. Many steels, but they have all performed beautifully. In fact, I have only sharpened a few knives, most notably my Drop Forged Survivalist and Machetes, since they get the most use.
This may sound weird, but as an African American, i have been around knives my whole life. My Dad worked at a slaughterhouse when he first got married. To this day, he and my Mom own many knives. I have put them on to Cold Steel, so now they have the Kitchen Classics, a 3 inch blade Voyager folder, a Tuff Lite, and a Click N Cut. No steel snobbery in my bloodline; just good, hard working knives.

Great example! It shows the real life functionality of the steel. I've always leaned more into toughness and rust resistance more than hardness anyway. Super hard steels are cool but out in the everyday world I want something I can sharpen to a razor sharp edge in as little time as possible. I really like Aus-10A, LC200N, Magnacut, 3V, and S35VN.

I agree. I just got a mini pendleton, can i use natural stones to sharpen it? Ive had people tell me conflicting things about that

So far my favorite steel CS uses is AUS-10A in edge retention tests it showed to be very similar to S30V but less chippy & cheaper.

Well I might be considered a steel snob, but my favorite steels are CPM S90V AND MAGNACUT...

I think realistic use 8cr is fine especially if CS or another reputable company does it jus like it the same with any others how many people still complaining about soft heat treats leaving there precious super steels at performance levels of around an 8cr anyway 😅

needing the latest, greatest 'super steels' for blades is probably one of the best sales pitches in history (well, maybe except for Apple iphones)🤣

he cant ever used or owned a good knife before. This is a budget steel, nothing wrong with it and i love CS knives, but still. He cant be spoiled with good knives and steel.

It's a good knife. That's the point. Budget steel and a good knife can describe the same knife.

@@Jimislash did not disagree, but it is still not a costly knife. So he cant have used very good knives from before.
