    Nice review, I just bought one of these. You are totally right about it being easier to slice paper one way than the other. It's because paper has a grain to it, just like wood - the fibres are all laid down in one direction, so when you slice along them you're cutting along the grain, but turn it 90 degrees and then you're cutting across the grain, and that makes a big difference. A lot of people doing paper-cutting tests don't seem to realise this.

    As far as I'm concerned, you should never feel that you have to explain yourself for taking issue with blade play on a knife, especially so soon after the purchase. I think most people in our community would probably be just as bothered by it as you were, and lots of them wouldn't be able to handle it gracefully and not get super pissed like you didn't. For what it's worth, I was already taking steps to purchase this knife before the video was even over. You do a great job dude. Keep up the good work, and thanks!

    • @Jimislash

      It might develop blade play. This is a lockback with a secondary lock. It's really strong.

  • @drengskap
    @drengskap 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    OK, I got my Double Safe Hunter yesterday. I like the general design, especially the blade shape and the grippy textured handle, but I have some issues with it. Firstly, you didn't mess up the pivot on your knife, mine is free spinning too. This means you can't disassemble the knife, and you can't adjust the pivot tension, which is a big problem. Why, Cold Steel, why? All of us knife guys like to fiddle about with our knives and tune the action!
    Secondly, the pocket clip. It's thick moulded plastic, not steel, and it effectively forms part of the left side of the handle. You can't swap it over, which sucks for left-handers like me, you can't reposition it, which sucks if you like tip-down carry, and you can't even remove it, since that leaves female threaded posts sticking out of the handle. in other words, you're stuck with right-hand tip-up carry only - if you want anything else, you're out of luck. Why didn't Cold Steel go with a simple reversible steel clip like on the Pro-Lite series? I can't see this model being very popular with these obvious design flaws - in a few years time, people will be saying 'Oh yeah, the Double Safe Hunter, that one with the weird plastic pocket clip which nobody liked.'

    • @Jimislash
      @Jimislash  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The knife can be taken apart. I managed to do it, but it's a hassle. You have to torque one of the scales to put pressure on the pivot, so it won't turn. It's ridiculous. And the answer they gave is ridiculous. It's a great beater. A nice truck knife or tackle box blade, but it's not a knife that is going to bring you a lot of happiness. :)

    • @drengskap
      @drengskap 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jimislash I'm wishing I'd gone for the Bush Ranger Lite instead now - don't know about the pivot on that, but at least it has a sensible pocket clip, and it's a similar shaped hunting knife to the Hunter.
