Plant and Bonham barely were out of their teens at this gig. JPJ was 23. Page was 25. Let that sink in. They walked out on that stage that day in front of a dead fish of an audience and produced two mind shattering versions of songs that were 10 years ahead of their time. People talk about how revolutionary Hendrix was and rightfully so. But nothing in rock history compares to early live Led Zep.

This was 1969, and this is pretty much the first band that melted people's faces. Even by today's standards this is pretty heavy music. Once you add Bonham's brutal drum smashing and Plant's vocal to the refinement of Page and Jones, they all pushed each other over the edge and just melted faces. It's a beautiful thing.

In 1969 Zeppelin were still playing small clubs and universities in the UK. I saw them in April 1969 in a hall behind a pub called The Roundhouse in Dagenham, Essex that held about 300 people. The stage was tiny and about two feet high! This was before the second album so their set was most of the first album plus Killing Floor, Train Kept a- Rollin' and Moby Dick. Imagine being a couple of feet away from Zeppelin, the noise was extraordinary. I remember Plant being tall and thin with wild corkscrew hair and Page's guitar hanging down to his knees, I'd never seen anyone playing guitar like that before. They were supported by the wonderful Blodwyn Pig. Six months later the second album came out and the rest is history. Those were great days.

In front of that crowd, I admire their perseverance. But I saw them in 1970 in a huge room -- Madison Square Garden. The place was jammed, the crowd was wired, and they were fantastic. So very different from this performance. By then, Jimmy had a wall of Marshall stacks. JPJ also played a Hammond organ for a few songs. Bonham had a few more kit, including double bass drums. Robert played the Garden's massive sound system like an instrument, using more silence to allow the room to echo back like a huge cavern. It was an exciting, mind-blowing experience and no one sat on their hands. We left that hall dazed and confused, and a bit wobbly on the pegs, but feeling like we all had shared something unique and very special. Being part of this huge crowd of freaks walking up 8th Avenue, ears buzzing, with all of us grinning like loonies, I wish that I were 16 again and could do it once more -- like a Groundhog Day moment!

All others would not be able to dance to this tune at all but these are the tunes that the hippies learned to dance to
although this song and similar songs by all rock groups may not have a danceable beat the hippies still were able to move fluidly and by going with the flow the hippies were able to dance even to tunes that did not have a danceable beat!

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that Bonham is an absolute legend. Dazed and confused is the standout here but what most don’t realise is he is only just out of his teens here at around the age of 20. No surprise he still tops every best drummer poll in perpetuity and rightly so.

The audience has never seen, felt, touched, tasted, or heard anything remotely close to what actually is before them. They are dumbfounded in amazement. And to think how much more was to come . At this time the Mighty Led Zeppelin had it together. When they were still striving to be the greatest

"Communication Breakdown" is the perfect double entendre' to describe this French audience's reaction! Those people were shook And shocked. It had to be damn loud in that room and I'm surprised people weren't covering their ears! They almost look like cardboard cutouts instead of people. This was for a TV show in Paris called "Tous en scène".

I just LOVE how everyone's sitting there, acting like their BORED out of their freaking MINDS,failing to realize they are all WITNESSING one of the LEGENDARY ROCK-BANDS of ALL TIME PERFORM!?!?! I'd grab my time-machine and go BACK to that time and day,and be HEADBANGING right along with Robert in the front row there while everyone AROUND me would be staring at me like "WTH is HIS problem? " LOL.

Man plant’s vocals in those first few years. Incredible. He lost a lot of that ability after about 1973-1974 or so but was still great. Just that youthful, strong voice he had in the early days was unmatched.

Wowwy zowwy...would'veoved to have witnessed a show on their early American festival performances...European audiences are extremely reserved compared to American ones...remember this is a filmed television appearance...and looking closely...I too noticed the canned applause between songs...and watching closely I see no audience member in motion...but yeah...maybe the audience is instructed not to utter a sound or move...I does not know...but the Z are are impressive hey ???

Watching and listening to them play, I can totally see the formula for Van Halen. Powerful drums, excellent bass player, screaming madman with great vocals and high energy as the front man, and a guitar player that is from some other planet! LZ looks like a prototype of VH. The manner in which each of them play their part is quite similar. Black Sabbath has a similar setup. And they are my top 3 favorite bands. So I guess it just works for me. Rock on people!

@@SonOfWat this was 1969 before they were superstars. No audience in any country would have been any more or less receptive to them at this stage in their career. Think about it...when you first hear a song or a band, you don’t immediately start singing the lyrics and moving to the melody.
