Everything about my cats I learned by following your suggestions. And now, we are at age 17. I am over 80. We are getting old together. And our relationship is very good. Thank you, Jackson Galaxy. Continue advising all the cat parents. Helga Rudolf
My cat cries the whole time when I have to drive him somewhere. But one time when I took him home from the vet, I tried playing one of those calming music for cats youtube videos and he only cried a little bit.
You can get a sedative from the vet if it is a big move. Also we put our cats in a pet taxi carrier and cover it with a thin sheet in the car. It a seems to calm them. We do use Feliaway and spray it into the carriers 15 minutes before they get put in.
Aaron - We currently have eight kittehs...along with a semi-spoiled mini-schnauzer (Daisy), two 'guest' raccoons *and* a persistent possum. Oh...and a 'rambling' skunk I've nicknamed "Mssr. Stinkypants". 😂
Yes! I moved a few months ago with my girl. She was fine once we were in the new house, and she got used to the new house really fast. But cars and especially being in a cage terrify her. She threw up on the car ride, and was crying and whining in misery the whole time. I've tried everything I know, but she just hates cars and cages no matter what I do. Her previous home was abusive, so I think she might have had a traumatic travel experience with them.
@@dragonofmordor - Maybe riding around the yard with her on something like a bike (or in a wagon) would help? The air around her would be moving far slower...that might help with the 'swooshing' feeling. 🤢 Good luck... 🤞🏻
We have the opposite - our cat used to sit on my lap but she never does it anymore. We got her when she was 1,5 years old and I guess she wasn't properly socialized in kittenhood. Plus raw bengal cat genes.
I can't believe my two little kitten brothers are turning two years in a month, they grow up so fast! I adopted them when they were 16 weeks old and since day one I have followed a strict play and feeding routine: 6 am: breakfast 12 pm: play for at least 10 minutes followed by lunch 6 pm: play for at least 10 minutes followed by dinner 10 pm: small snack before bed so they sleep all night (and they do) I have done this every day and my my my what loving cats these two have turned out to be. I am so proud of being a cat mom to them and I feel so privileged to care for them. Also, a fun thing with this play + feed structure is that when it is time to eat they go to the wardrobe were I keep the toys and start yelling at me for not playing with them (yet) instead of going to the kitchen were the food is... They know it so well that first you hunt, then you eat! Thank you Jackson for sharing your knowledge about cats to all of us! Salem and Franz says hi and would probably give you headbutts if you met them :D
@@rebeccagoodridge1626 Thank god we have people who work chime in instead of all the stay of home youtuber-wanna-be's whose only job is to house-sit pets. And yes, those who work have healthy happy pets. They're pets. Not priorities such as family.
@@rebeccagoodridge1626 Exactly. My husband and I can't structure our whole lives around our cats, and we don't believe that cats need to have every minute of their lives structured by us either. Of course there are exceptions; our oldest cat (14) has a tumor on his spine so we make sure between the two of us that he gets his scheduled twice-daily medication, and every extra treatment or attention he needs (grooming him because he's limited in how much he can groom himself, hospital and vet visits for tests, etc.). There's a difference between caring for your pets and your life revolving around them, and there are plenty of cats living long, happy and healthy lives with busy/shift working/disabled owners. Jackson has some good tips sometimes that can be useful and easily integrated by regular people, but I wouldn't raise my cats the way he does even if I could.
Think of it this way you can save another cat. I adopt special need cats. I'm on my fifth cat. I'm still sad about my last one but this way I get to help more cats. Cats can live to over 20. :)
i have two 21 years old cats, one 10 years old and one 9 years old! I'm struggling to provide more care for my two centenarians as i do not have anyone around who have cats this old. I would love to hear more stories about cats this old!
21 yr olds!!! You must've provided good care. .. not only good food, but vaccinations, no fleas, as they get tapeworm from fleas. But like ppl. , some get diseases, cancer & have short life & & others have long life , heritage, is a factor I have now left 2 females, 13, 15 , are in great shape 8yr old male & my old orange tabby, that found his way to our doorstep 18 yrs ago, on Holloween, named him Pumpkin. He s very thin, lost lot of his hair, has arthritis, walks slow , doesn't like being touched or petted, especially the feet. I used to clip the nails easily, now will bite. I give him joint pain , glucosamine, & lick off paste for calming. He eats. , often , in small amounts When I put food down, he likes Fancy Feast, dry & can, he stares at it , like lost smell, has no cataracts , so I know he can see.. so I pick up dish. & he smells & then will eat. It's important to keep schedule, like ppl. need to eat , sleep same time. Their system gets used to. routine 11am is when get their canned, & be waiting at their places, except my 8yr old, part Maine c, is 18 lbs., & a pest. if goes over feeding time. Had a Siamese live be 21, but. is in that breeds nature to live long. As I said , need routine, may need different diet , older get bad teeth , & may not chew kibble, ... & may prefer different flavors,.. Pumpkin prefers seafood..
Oldest cat I've ever had made it to 35 and we just let her do her thing and we didn't have to do much except when she was having a hard time moving around we took her to the vet other than that she was just fine I have a 17-year-old cat only thing is she's lost some weight and you can feel her spine now but she's happy healthy and cuddly
My cat is nearly 8 years old and the most special thing is how our bond has strengthened over the years. Vet visits with him as a kitten vs now really shows me that. As a kitten, if he was stressed nothing I did really provided him with comfort but now he looks to me and I feel he knows he’s safe. It’s the most special thing I think I’ve ever experienced ❤
I'm disabled and I go to work for my cats and my dog , and they know it , and I love them and they love me. We listen to cat daddy, and life couldn't be more perfect.😊❤️
I will be looking forward to that senior and super-senior cat video. My very senior gentleman cat was 14.5 before he passed away, and my previous cat reached 13 and some months. But I'd love to know how to care for cats better to give them more quality, healthy, happy time and less of the trouble of poor health when they get too old. (I miss both those cats, just lost the one in May. But they reach a point where, as much as they and we want to, their bodies just can't last.) Enjoy them while they are here, 'cause life is short, and they are special, highlights and buddies.
Cats are like ppl.., that get diseases, even w/ the best care. Kidney problems is what older will get. It's important to be flea free, & worm free, & proper diet, not let get obese. My 15 yr old. tortie calico passed few months back, she had bad infected teeth, & makes it painful to eat, so cleaning teeth imp. too.
We’re getting a kitten today, and I could not be more excited! I have also watched dozens of your videos ;) Edit: It’s her first day and she already feels like home. I’d like to thank Jackson for all the tips and the resources on this channel that help us get closer to that cat mojo!
Have fun and take lots of pictures. They grow and change very fast. We have 2 kittens (4 months and 2-1/2 months) and they grow like weeds. Our oldest cat is almost 8 and it seems like it was just yesterday that he was the 7-month-old kitten we rescued.
My wife and I have five indoor cats. Three are about 5 years old and the other two are 10 years old or so. Each are energetic, happy, and healthy for their age, and they each receive lots of attention and love. As empty-nesters with a lot of space we feel blessed to have them around. I wish cats lived longer.
Thanks, Jackson. My rescue cat is a little over 17 years now and has slowed down. while I have played with her, I never pushed the play cycle as you've suggested. I found you more recently and the patterns are now set. She and her adopted sister (now gone) always demanded free-style eating. It didn't (doesn't) matter how much or how little I put down for them, they always leave some for "tomorrow" though they've never missed a meal either. I now weigh their food before and after and the difference varies. Most food is eaten after (my) bedtime. I also weigh her at least once a week and it varies too, but not much. For future subjects, I'd appreciate improving her car travel. She loves her crate but despises the car - with a persistent, horrific, yowling for the entire journey - sometimes two hours worth! I've tried quite few things. It no longer matters as much now that I'm no longer traveling, but I'd still be interested. The second subject I'd appreciate deals with kidney failure and how to improve life in that stage. Thanks much.
Can't wait till your post for seniors. My girl is 16 with Kidney issues and a cancer surrivor. She is healthy now but lonley since her son passed last month. Wants lots of attention.
My cat is naturally a free feeder. She always grazed. But, she is considered slightly underweight at age 15 bc she's a grazer. She nibbles small amounts all day. She's not a big eater and I have to add extra stuff like morsels to keep her weight at normal range. She's naturally a tiny kitty. She still gets Mommy's attention as far as feeding goes with the wet food and morsals. ❤❤
my cat is totally the one who is still wild and running around the house playing all the time. she's just a very high energy girl. she's around 5 now, and I've hard her since she was a year and a half. She's gotten more cuddly as our bond has grown stronger and stronger, but she's still a very energetic girl who needs many play sessions and still enjoys just running and giving off her hunting cry at random times just for the fun of it.
One thing I always say is to take great photos of them at every stage of life! As my cat Bella, enters her 6th year, I have adopted a kitten ( who’ s now 8 months) as a companion for her. It has taken 4 months now for them to be bff’s. She has never been a cat that “smothers” you all the time with her affections. She’s not antisocial or mean, but she has her moments she gives wonderful and personal love.
I’m adopting my cat in 4 days! She’s around 1 yr old. I’m so excited. Siamese & Snowshoe (though I believe snowshoes came from siameses so I’m not sure)
@@jrwheeler81 yeahh I read about that. Im just not sure which one she is Bc her face & body are Siamese but she has white paws like snowshoes 😂 maybe a mix
8:52. DAMN YOU Jack Galaxy in a good way. Because of your wisdom and cat knowledge, I just now moved my cat tree that was several ft away from my window to now just hugging next to the window. Now my cats are chasing each other again with the zoomies lol. Thank you :)
I've been watching you for years, from tv to TH-cam. You have helped me prepare for my two cats who are brothers to have a wonderful relationship with these two. They are both now four and I am going to do everything i can to make sure they have a wonderful and healthy life. Thank you!
My cat is 13 years old and still very high energy. I let him outside for a few hours early innthe morning, and he brings back rabbits, birds, and one time he brought another kitten (he was alive and healthy). And when I come back from work he wants to play. I had to get to the point where I had to ignore him for him to exit play mode.
Mine is 12. She still does the same. Goes out to hunt/kill and still plays a lot. We had a big scare last week. She was throwing up a lot and quit eating. The vet guessed kidney disease, but it turned out to be pancreatitus. She's right back to normal after some antibiotics, steroids, B12 and fluids. I'm going to change her diet, but just not sure what to get yet. So very thankful She's still with me. Love her SO MUCH!!! ❤ I'm looking forward to his senior cat video.
I am grappling with my 15 & 16 year old "babies"❤️ CKD with the older one and hyperthyroid with the other. I have a vet that comes to my house $$$ and I am doing everything I can to care for them including meds every 12 hours. Sometimes I get anxious and I'll admit frustrated because now I'm not allowed to be away, and I work 10 hour shifts a few days a week. At times It has been very emotional & frustrating trying to understand what they need. I am adapting to their needs & I love caring for them. it's heartbreaking to see the aging process happen. The money on food and litter alone 😭 I absolutely love them unconditionally. We have had many life times together. I keep them active with catnip, and toys and really try to understand and nurture this new very needy stage in their elderly life ❤️
I’ve forgotten how much I love Jackson Galaxy. I used to watch “My Cat from Hell” nearly everyday when I was younger. I’ve been thinking of getting a new kitten in addition to our family, and thus, I stumbled upon Mr Galaxy’s videos once again. I’m so glad to re-educate myself and brush up on my cat studies!
I'm really looking forward to the video on seniors. I feel like there are different requirements for play with seniors so we don't hurt their joints and cause them to hyperventilate. Thank you so much for these life stage videos, Jackson!
Jackson, thank you so much for loving kitties as you do! Your advice is so invaluable to help us navigate the lives of our beloved furry friends. All light, all love, all mojo to YOU!
Can't wait for the senior stages. We have 3 cats, the oldest is 11, the middle one is 10,5 and the youngest is 8. Recently unfortunately we found out that the oldest cat has feline infectious peritonitis. So far with proper diet he is doing fine. So would be nice if you did a video about these fatal diseases. Love from Greece!
Yes. I would like to see a few videos on taking care of cats that are chronically ill (FIP deserves a video all to itself). How do you handle the mindset of being a caretaker?
@@professorbutters Unfortunately we had no information about FIP. Panic and crying is not a good advisor. I started searching on Google but it's case is different. So the best is to take it step by step with the doctor, follow his instructions and try to do the best for your fury kid. I understand he is 11 years old and I love him dearly so I will do anything in my power to help him. So far he is doing fine, we do blood test when is needed, we keep him fit and energetic and hope for the best.
Excellent video. True, love makes the world go round. My two cats get ALL the love possible from me as they are seniors like myself. Lots of love to you. Stay healthy!!!
Thank you for teaching us about feeding wet food only. Your video on how dry food is made caused me to immediately change my cat’s diet. Yes, wet food is more expensive and it sometimes goes to waste when she doesn’t eat it all, but the change is more than worth it. She’s been eating wet food for about a year now (she’s about 4 1/2) and I’ve noticed a change in her energy levels and her overall health. I can rest easy knowing my fur baby is eating what she biologically should eat. 💜
can't wait for your senior cat commentary, as living with one, so blessed. my companion is 17 plus as came to us already an adult. Lady as I call her in my language, is annoyed these days as used to living between my flat and my mum's, these days she is no longer wanting to go to my mum and dad's and it breaks their hearts. I suspect the problem is feeding other cats on the ledge of my mum's flat and the invasion of privacy involved. First and foremost lots of strays/ outdoor cats in my country and so we can not not feed the strays as we have been doing it for decades long before Lady come along and made her home with us and the cats come to us starving and they are ever growing in number, the only thing we can do for them is to neuter them but people keep bringing their unwanted pets :(( to our complex buildings where they know they are safe and fed. what can I do to relieve my baby's misery and keep her from abandoning her territory altogether? please help.
I have cats at all different ages. From 2 yrs up to 12 yrs. The have no dried food, meat only. Treats they get every couple of months, when I set up the cat puzzles for them. I always observe in everything they do, and notice a change in them right away. Loved your video Jackson, it gives myself reassurance I'm doing it correctly. 😸
I've just got my 2-year old angel, her name is Murphy and she is doing so well, even though shes been in her new home for about a week (Or even less) now!
Looking forward to the next video. My cat is over 16 yrs old and she still gets those bursts of energy and runs around like a kitten but only for a short time, lol. She can't jump as high as she used to but she used to be able to jump ridiculously high! 😊🐈. Thumbs up Jackson 👍
I bought my cat when she was 5 years old. I think she hadn't played with humans much before and was more used to playing with other cats or alone. She acted like a kitten when it came to play - everything that moves was FUN!😂 She's now 6 years old and I've never met an adult cat that wants to play as much as her 😂 Literally 5 minutes after we're done playing she comes to me and wants to play again.
I adopted a 9 year old ladycat in december, she just turned 10 years old. Her owner had left the house to never return, nobody knows why and she was abandoned for 7 month in the house, an unknown person gave her food and water every second day. She was rescued by the police after 7 month and put in fostercare. I got her a few month after that. She is the best cat ever😻 she is so sweet, loving, well behaved and a total darling, I love her to pieces. She is the ultimate Cat Mojito from day 1 and I will spoil her all I can for the rest of her life ❤
I have 3 cats, and 2 were found on the street. My mainecoon (we think) is the most "aggressive" cat, and is on a kill list at the shelter. The only reason we have him is because I begged to go get him, and now that I watch your videos I finally understand some of his behaviors, like biting us when we pet his back. I always ask to pet him by putting my hand to his nose and letting him decide what to do. I also recently started walking him outside. He definitely has began to trust me more, and everyone else just says he's mean or moody but I tell them they just aren't listening to him. You've inspired me to try and work with cats from shelters to become adoptable.
I currently have 5 feral kittens.. trying to educwte myself. I wiah i had more time to build an obstacle cpurse for them but i have so many other things and chores and animals ... They follow me constantly and jump on my back of im turned around... Sometimes i feel like a harried mother... Please we desperately need to educate the public about spaying and neutering, and thst they arent just a throw away pet when people move 💜
Hey Jackson. Just want to say thank you. Watching your program on animal planet as i am writing this and i am happy that you are here to help cat owners take care of their cats. I also learned a lot from your program and channel concerning taking care of my own cat. Cats should be cats and not be humanized and you have found a way to tell that to the would. So yeah, just want to say. You are awesome. 🙏
I have two senior cats. Faith is 14 and a sweetheart. Emy, the imp, is sixteen+ and is still full of energy and mischievous. I'm looking forward to your next video.
My 2 girls are 6yo, nearly 7. I rescued them back 2015. When they were indoor(night)/outdoor(day) cats I started the routine of dry food in the morning and then wet food at night as an enticement to come inside. For the last 3 yrs, after we moved States, they became indoor cats only due to my wanting to protect the natural wildlife. The food routine has stayed the same, but they are given less food. Initially, I was giving them the same, but my ginger girl was putting on weight - she's a grazer. For the last few months, since I reduced the food portions, she's become more active and more affectionate. My grey & white girl has always "owned" me, but now that my son is grown and moved out, she's had to share me with my ginger. Most nights find me either flanked by the girls or covered by them. I love it.
Been watching your videos a lot lately for some help, and just wanted to say, my cats love watching you! They’ll sit in front of the tv and be so engaged watching you.
My cat is about 4 yrs old. We have a feeding and play routine. She lives for it. She cries snd reminds me how much she needs it. I got her less than a year ago as a rescue so I’m in the process of making a play/cat run/ climbing area. She loves it and lives to play on it all day but especially before feeding time. I hope she stays healthy and always want to play
my honeybear played daily until she was 19, and i played with her regularly and she also engaged herself with, yes, a few toys that were always left out , and id rotate toys in and out to keep things stimulating and enriching
My cat was always a snuggle bug, but as she gets older; if you forget to say hi in the morning or after work she'll ignore you for a whole day and then the next she'll throw a hissy fit if she doesn't get cuddled immediately. Her personality is absolutely adorable
I'm really looking forward to the video on seniors and super seniors! We have a 16 year old cat who we love dearly and want to give him the best quality of life he can possibly get, but he's still experiencing some difficulties (arthritis, tooth/gum issues, irritability, etc)
My cat is obsessed with one particular yellow wool ball that was in a pack of toys, I have no idea why lol. She’s about 4 and it’s one of the only things she’ll play with.
I so much enjoyed today's video. My Ginger died recently at 20, two years after her life partner, Freddie. I have just gotten two new shelter cats, both beautiful and both about 4 years old. And I am having to learn that they are not super senior and have different wants and needs. I have made some climbing structures for them and pretty soon I am hoping to move to an enormously large place where I can properly catify it. But especially in the meantime, thanks again for the advice.
Jackson, you always talk about routines, but can you make a video about how to implement a proper routine, how it should look like, and why its necessary? Would be awesome
My cat must have been the exception. He was a wild teenager for 14 years, 6 months and 29 days. Climbing, jumping and 3 am hot laps around the house never stopped. A champion mouser that bolted out the back door when he saw a mouse on the patio. He dashed after it and got hit by a car. That was two weeks ago and it's like losing a family member. RIP Bear.
I really like these life stages videos. I currently have 3 cats, one that was dumped out front of our home, very common in Philadelphia unfortunately, she was about 2. She was Microchipped this is how we know she was a dump. SPCA tried to contact the own. long story short they did not want the cat. Her name is Phyllis and is now 3 and i have seen her slow down a little. We also adopted a semi feral kitten from a lady who took in a feral mom and kittens. His name is Horus and will be a year this Aug. Our newest we have known since he was born his name is Binx. My mother in law literally had a stay run into her house and less than 3 months later she has a litter of 4 kittens. It was amazing to see them born and watch them grow. She did a good job with making sure the kitten got all the stimulation and care. This was her first ever cat and she did great, she had once a litter of puppies so that helped some. Those kitties were very much loved and now we have a loving 6 month old kitten. the other 3 found loving homes as well one with another family member and the other 2 with close friends and all the kitten have the best personalities. My mother in law took in the mother and got her vetted and fixed. The poor cat was not even a year old yet. So a lot of what was said in this video and the kitten stages i really saw in my kitties. I feel like i have one of each life stage minus the senior years. right now in the house. This also gave me some good ideas to get my 3 year old cat more motivated, even with the kittens she is still lazy at times. We have plenty of toys, cat trees for climbing and also set aside play time for them but sometimes she just doesn't want to play. But has become extremely affectionate recently. I hope I can keep her motivation. I love all these videos and watch them all the time. I also use the information to help other people with there cats. I have had cats since i could remember and love them. Disclaimer : all kittens were vetted and fixed! just putting that out there for people who might ask!
My cat will be 8yo in a few months. I adopted her 5-6 years ago. She has slowed down her zooming, yet still has the road runner/speedyGonzales syndrome. We play every morning and evening before I go to bed…sometimes in the afternoon. I feed 4 times a day 1/8th cup each time. She has never eaten human food nor canned food, she refuses.
I hear you, Jackson, about how a cat's activity level may go down as he gets older. There is a TH-cam channel where they have been filming their cat at age seven, back in 2014. The cat is sixteen, now and he does not jump around as much as he used to at age seven. His meowing has also gotten deeper and it is now lower pitched.
You have great videos on cat introductions. Would you consider one on introducing them to other humans? I’d love our new boy to be less afraid when we have visitors to the house. We are having them sit on the floor and chat quietly with us but if our boy flood Finnegan comes out, they can feed him one of those liquid treat tubes to hopefully give him a positive experience. Thanks again for all you do. Your videos have really helped me learn how to give the boy a good home and setting him up for success coming from a dog only background. He’s only been with us a week but yesterday he even let me clip his nails! I only did a few as I didn’t want to push it but I was thrilled how calm and trusting he was. I also understand how much he likes to get high up and more vertical catification is on the way. :)
Feeding our 5 month old kitten Lotus frozen food. It comes in chicken, venison, beef, lamb, pork, and turkey. He seems to like everything but the pork. He would love dry kibbles, but trying not to let him get used to it. Last night we visited friends, and he ate dry dog food. Tyring to do the right thins.
I think one of my cats, Digger (black nosed tuxedo cat) lived to be nearly 19. He just sat down in a chair and fell asleep and didn't wake up, one day. I sensed something was wrong and checked him. I thought he was dying young ... and I checked my records. How fast the years had flown. He was part of our first cat family when we married. He had actually traveled across country in a jet when he was young. He and his brother were so very special! Tigger was charmer ... he died younger and I still miss him. Most of my cats have averaged out to about 10-12.
CrazyBella is getting a bit more intimate and personally loving towards me ,as she approaches her 2nd year...I give her loads of stimulation and play that stimulates her mind and body...and she has a lovely new kitten playmate that is my roommates teenager! She is so wonderful!
I'm so glad I went searching for your videos because I was just about at my wits end. So this is normal... thank god this is normal, I thought he hated me. He doesn't play like he used to and I was stressing out. It's a struggle to get him to play, but that's likely because all of his toys are from when I first got him. He has no interest in them but I can tell her bored out of his mind. Okay. I can breathe and move on to a next step. Thank you thank you
My cat is now 9. He is an indoor/outdoor cat. Now before people get mad we tried for 3 years to make home an indoor cat. We got him at 6 months. His name is Calvin but should have been Houdini. He can open our windows and the screens. He can unlock doors and open them. We could not keep him in. He wears a tracking collar at all times. We have tried so many toys and even a really nice cat tree. He never wanted anything to do with any of it. He would look at the toy and then look at us as if we were nuts. He never used the cat tree at all. Now that he is 9 he is starting to slow down. He goes out but returns at certain times and comes in for breakfast at 9 and has a nap. Goes out at 1 until 4 and comes in for supper. He is a good weight but he is definitely slowing down. He now never climbed the big wood fence but will go by way of the chain link fence that is on the one side. He is also agreeable to staying in for his nap and bedtime. He is never out after 4 pm now. He is not at all a cuddly cat but is now wanting more petting than ever. He now has routines that he follows and you had better make sure you take care of them such as meal times.
I had no idea kidney disease could start so young. We rescued an adult cat of an unknown age (the vet guessed 5 to 10 years) who had not been on a good diet (his coat got so much softer and less brittle after a year with us on good food). He went in for a tooth cleaning and they discovered the early stages of kidney disease in his lab work. He is now on a proper diet, no clinical signs, and the values are holding pretty steady and not getting worse. We figured he had to be over 10 years old to have these symptoms but after watching this I wonder if he is younger and we got lucky catching it early.
I have two cats that I found on the streets. One, the eldest is 5 1/2 years old. I found her when she was very young, probably not 2 months. And the second one is now around 3 years old. It's harder to know because she was a teenager cat when I found her last year. I'm lucky that they get along rather well. I try to take care of them the best I can and provide the best I can afford with my tiny budget. Hopefully they will stay healthy and live a long, fulfilling cat life.
my cat turned 7 this year, he's still pretty energetic and wants to play daily, during quarantine I had to exhaust his energy before starting work at home or he wouldn't let me :D but I've noticed that these play sessions got shorter than before.
my youngest cat is almost 1 and i alternate her food every day. she's got 7 flavours of varying texture for each of the days of the week. it keeps her from getting bored with her food. and we have playtime every day ofc, usually before the last meal time of the day. i get her to play really hard with her toys for maybe 15 minutes, then i take her into the backyard so she can run around with me for about a half hour. then she eats her dinner and we sleep the whole night together. ive made sure to establish a good routine for her :)
My 2 year old cat is still obsessed with a sisal string that he's been playing with since forever... And the other toy that still gets him going is a little mouse, and the kitten I adopted is also obsessed with the mouse, so it's fun to watch them play at the same time with it...
I’m a hunter, so I save all the tidbits (healthy organs, meat trimmings, shank meat with sinew, bloodshot meat, etc) and freeze them in 1lb bags for him. Anything contaminated with gut contents or metal fragments is discarded, but thankfully it’s not very common for me. I have my cat on a high quality grain free kibble diet, which is nutritionally complete. He gets a mouse-sized chunk of lean raw venison every evening ads treat. When he’s shedding and growing in a new coat, I double the amount of raw meat- growing fur takes lots of quality protein. I have had him on this diet for the six years I have had him. His coat is luxurious, he’s bright eyed and full of energy, his poops are dense and they don’t REEK, and he’s vomited (including hair balls) a grand total of 7 times. Seven times over six YEARS is frickin incredible for a cat! BTW the long bones, ribs, spine etc I give to a friend whose dogs are on the BARF diet, and I tan the hides into leather. I try to use every part of the animal for something, and minimize waste.
I’m looking forward to watching the senior instalment because I have a super senior cat...23 years young and still going pretty strong but I do fear she’s on her last life which makes me very very sad😿!! I’ve seen the body changes happening slowly and she’s become very demanding with regards to food now. She loves cat milk and regular milk which I give her some every day because she isn’t lactose intolerant.
For my 7 year old we mix a few different cat foods for him and he loves all of them he's not completely on wet food because my vet thinks that the dry food helps his teeth but he definitely gets more wet food then dry and with the wet food I have this meal plan where I give him a different type every day so he never gets bored with his wet food and never gets the same type two days in a row.
I've always had a natural connection to cats and other animals. Jackson has taught me a lot. It's like adding skill to talent. I take good care of other people's cats and never tried to get one of my own. My friend mentioned a stray to me. The cat was all bone and fur. He was very malnourished. It was like petting a skeleton. My friend said the cat belongs to his neighbors, but their new dog won't let the cat in the house anymore. The cat had been outside for at least two months. He was very friendly. I took the cat home in a cat carrier. The little guy was very cooperative and didn't fuss one bit. I was amazed by that. I bathed him with baby shampoo because he smelled like garbage and poop. I cut all the mats in his hair out. He eats like a king now. He used to knock my garbage cans over every night and look for food. It probably was his regular routine outdoors. He doesn't do that now, but he continues to have an insatiable appetite. I don't over-feed him. That causes refeeding disease. He's going to the vet next week. I treated him with WRM Clear for two weeks. I don't see any indication of worms. My place is set up with many high spaces for cats. The other cats that have been here utilized the high spaces. This cat doesn't. He doesn't even use the cat tree, even after I cleaned it and tried to remove any smell of other cats. He's gained weight and doing well in the month that I have had him. His owners named him Monkey and I continue to call him that. He responds to it. I'm not going to change it. I call him Monkster sometimes. He's a Maine Coon. Cool breed. Owners don't know or even care that I took him, but I think they should be brought up on charges for animal cruelty. F those A-holes. Nobody better take this good boy from me.
I gave my adult cat a teenage cat as enrichment... they play together all the time now it is so cute, but boy, that teenager, I have learned how to play with her cat toy while I am mostly still asleep...
Everything about my cats I learned by following your suggestions. And now, we are at age 17. I am over 80. We are getting old together. And our relationship is very good. Thank you, Jackson Galaxy. Continue advising all the cat parents. Helga Rudolf

Do a video on vehicle travel. Let people know safe and calming methods for travel to vets and moving (I'm moving right now)
I use catnip. Some use that expensive pheromone stuff, but that never seemed to work for me.
Cant help my cat is an odd little creature and loves car rides
My cat cries the whole time when I have to drive him somewhere. But one time when I took him home from the vet, I tried playing one of those calming music for cats youtube videos and he only cried a little bit.
Esp if they get car sick
You can get a sedative from the vet if it is a big move. Also we put our cats in a pet taxi carrier and cover it with a thin sheet in the car. It a seems to calm them. We do use Feliaway and spray it into the carriers 15 minutes before they get put in.
My male cat is 12, and my female cat is 18. I'll definitely be watching the next video.
As my cats have gotten older they become more cuddly want to be with you and more fussing. If I could and the wife would let me I would have 20 cats.
Good luck... 🤞🏻
@@dragonofmordor try a calming treat? A pheremone collar maybe💚💚
I adopted them when they were 16 weeks old and since day one I have followed a strict play and feeding routine:
6 am: breakfast
12 pm: play for at least 10 minutes followed by lunch
6 pm: play for at least 10 minutes followed by dinner
10 pm: small snack before bed so they sleep all night (and they do)
I have done this every day and my my my what loving cats these two have turned out to be.
Salem and Franz says hi and would probably give you headbutts if you met them :D
do u not have a job? I do. I gotta work 9 to 5.
@@herohour6496 right? My work schedule changes every week so there is no way at all I could stick to any sort of schedule for feeding
I also had a cat called Salem! Sounds like you have very happy cats there☺️
I honestly love my cat so much I cry just thinking of the day I won't have him anymore. I wished they lived forever. (He is turning 9 in October)

@@savingfelvkitties7424 that is a good idea. I hope my other cat accepts them. She hates everyone but my boy. I'll definitely give it a go
i have two 21 years old cats, one 10 years old and one 9 years old! I'm struggling to provide more care for my two centenarians as i do not have anyone around who have cats this old. I would love to hear more stories about cats this old!
21 yr olds!!! You must've provided good care. .. not only good food, but vaccinations, no fleas, as they get tapeworm from fleas.
But like ppl. , some get diseases, cancer & have short life & & others have long life , heritage, is a factor
I have now left 2 females, 13, 15 , are in great shape
8yr old male & my old orange tabby, that found his way to our doorstep 18 yrs ago, on Holloween, named him Pumpkin.
He s very thin, lost lot of his hair, has arthritis, walks slow , doesn't like being touched or petted, especially the feet. I used to clip the nails easily, now will bite. I give him joint pain , glucosamine, & lick off paste for calming. He eats. , often , in small amounts
When I put food down, he likes Fancy Feast, dry & can,
he stares at it , like lost smell, has no cataracts , so I know he can see.. so I pick up dish. & he smells & then will eat.
It's important to keep schedule, like ppl. need to eat , sleep same time. Their system gets used to. routine
11am is when get their canned, & be waiting at their places, except my 8yr old, part Maine c, is 18 lbs., & a pest. if goes over feeding time.
Had a Siamese live be 21, but. is in that breeds nature to live long.
As I said , need routine, may need different diet , older get bad teeth , & may not chew kibble, ... & may prefer different flavors,.. Pumpkin prefers seafood..
@@Memow-pk1ng vaccinating cats is great negate it prevents disease, but it can Akari cause earlier deaths and other sicknesses, like possibly cancer.
@@Memow-pk1ng my 17 year old cat had arthritis. The vet would give her injections for it every 6 months. It helped a lot.
My 15 yr old. tortie calico passed few months back, she had bad infected teeth, & makes it painful to eat, so cleaning teeth imp. too.
I had a baby that live til she was 17!
Thank you for this! My Baby Cat will be 8 in September and he’s just as beautiful as the day I first laid eyes on him. 😍
Happy birthday kitty! My lil boi just turned 8 yesterday 💛

We’re getting a kitten today, and I could not be more excited! I have also watched dozens of your videos ;)

Have fun and take lots of pictures. They grow and change very fast. We have 2 kittens (4 months and 2-1/2 months) and they grow like weeds. Our oldest cat is almost 8 and it seems like it was just yesterday that he was the 7-month-old kitten we rescued.

@@jrwheeler81 Thank you, I will! Mine is 2 1/2 months old too!

Very true. Our Chloe is 19 years old. She sleeps a lot but still bosses us around.
Hey we both have a cat called Chloe!! :D
Also I would die for her :3
Can't wait till your post for seniors.

Thank you for teaching us about feeding wet food only. Your video on how dry food is made caused me to immediately change my cat’s diet. Can you make a video about cleaning cat ears?
I watch you partially because you are a good human being. But also your knowledge about cats is outstanding and I trust you advice.
I love it.

I'm really allergic to cats now and miss having one. I like watching your videos to remind me how lovely it is. Thank you :-)
My cat will be 8yo in a few months.
I can't wait for that senior, super-senior videos.
Thank you Friend. You do a great service with your videos.
Thank you !!! Jackson as always very helpful and informative in such an easy way !!
My baby butterscotch just had his eighth birthday yesterday!!! Love my boi everyone wish him a long long life please:)))💛💛💛💛
Mine terned 1 just a few weeks ago 🥺I've had them since they were 4 weeks it's been such crazy experience but I've loved every second of it
Love this series, I have an adult cat and a kitten and it's helping me understand them better
My kitten is now 10 months old and he's just turned crazy!!
My 2-year-old boy Rayne got the zoomies while I watch this video! thanks Jackson
Are you sure he didn't just take a poop? Because my cats always get post-poop zoomies lol.
My cat also gets poop zoomies
my cat turned 7 this year, he's still pretty energetic and wants to play daily, during quarantine I had to exhaust his energy before starting work at home or he wouldn't let me :D but I've noticed that these play sessions got shorter than before.
my youngest cat is almost 1 and i alternate her food every day. she's got 7 flavours of varying texture for each of the days of the week. it keeps her from getting bored with her food. and we have playtime every day ofc, usually before the last meal time of the day. i get her to play really hard with her toys for maybe 15 minutes, then i take her into the backyard so she can run around with me for about a half hour. then she eats her dinner and we sleep the whole night together. ive made sure to establish a good routine for her :)
Never had a cat in my life till last year. Now I have two 😎 not too toot my own horn but thanks too Jackson I too am the cat whisperer
My 2 year old cat is still obsessed with a sisal string that he's been playing with since forever... And the other toy that still gets him going is a little mouse, and the kitten I adopted is also obsessed with the mouse, so it's fun to watch them play at the same time with it...
What i did with my baby is she now has a playmate because she couldn't have kittens of her own and now she plays alot with the kitten and cleans her
I’m a hunter, so I save all the tidbits (healthy organs, meat trimmings, shank meat with sinew, bloodshot meat, etc) and freeze them in 1lb bags for him.
I love your videos Jackson! I always recommend you to all my cat friends and especially to those who are beginner cat parents.
My little guy doesn't play if he has to move too much. Found him as an adult wandering around our apartments.
I gave my adult cat a teenage cat as enrichment... they play together all the time now it is so cute, but boy, that teenager, I have learned how to play with her cat toy while I am mostly still asleep...
I just left a comment on the kitten video saying my 2ish year old cat is still very much a kitten. I love the Peter Pan Syndrome explanation.
