    There are some massive changes coming to the engineering system in 4.0 that many did not expect. And it's something that will literally change the game forever with it. With Engineering comes the first implementation of armor and armor penetration and this change is incredible!

    Just want to add something I've been anticipating for awhile now. In the same way that solo players will struggle to properly man larger vessels under combat situations, there's another half of that sword that isn't talked about enough.
    Players who tend to fill their hangars with fighters. Especially light and medium, will probably want to address their approach and their fleet.
    Here's why.
    I suspect the days of taking a snub fighter or Buccaneer against a HH or similarly sized ship will be behind us. Sure, if you're a great shot or lucky, you might be able to strip a shield generator off of the ship or take out a turret even. Beyond that....... It's gonna be like using birdshot against an M1A2 MBT.... plink...plink...plink... You'll get nowhere and eventually, only risk your own hide by sticking around. I suspect the RoE will change to using fighters to take out those generators and/or turrets, and once they do those fighters will pop smoke and GTFO so the bombers and heavier hitting ships can really lay into the hull.
    This MAY also translate to bounties. People always get on industrial players for playing in an Argo Mole or Reclaimer solo. You can probably bet on changes coming to VHRT's and DEFINITELY ERT's. And it might look something similar to the roadblocks the industrial players have been facing all along. You won't be able to bring a small ship to an ERT and bring hell with you.. You'll need to plan accordingly and possibly, bring some buddies. I think VLRT's, LRT's, MRT's HRT's and maybe SOME VHRT's will be a solo capable mission. But beyond that and you'll probably be dealing with a situation where the odds are not in your favor. Be it if you bring a bomber to take out the main target, or a fighter to thin the numbers. I expect you'll be overrun in some cases. It's mostly just a thought though with the whole bounty system change. Best to keep the fleet fluid and not pigeonhole yourself into regret. Stay sharp. o7

      So I'm working on covering engineering and armor for Fridays video. And this is something that I plan to talk about.
      I firmly believe fighters should be closer to ineffective against sub capital ships. But capital ships they should be unable to really do anything against. And i think that they'll probably make it so certain size weapons are only capable of penetrating the armor of certain armor levels.
      If that's the case, this will begin to completely change how combat is handled starting in 4.0.

      Absolutely agree. It will also begin to finally paint a picture at hope ship roles will begin to matter. I hope they match changes to the pay out of group bounties. We're gonna need more ships to help with some of these encounters.

    I don't think we should encourage them to funnel a ton of resources into the PU to encourage us to play. The thing is a dumpster fire and a mere shadow of the vision. They need to put their nose to the grindstone and get the game built without having to keep the PU functioning so we don't cry all over spectrum about 'the game' not working.

      Unfortunately, this is their life now. They don't really have an option to stop adding to the PU.

      The PU is the grindstone. The more people that pay/play, the faster they can "finish" the game. Let them cry, they should the disclaimer they acknowledge every time they play then stfu

      CIG's business model does not allow for that. The PU and the much hated marketing department of CIG are critical for the realization of SC and SQ42. Most people just cannot put themselfs into the perspective of CIG... total lack of empathy and knowledge.

      @stephanmilius3598 I keep saying it. Everyone kicks and screams about the game and the marketing department, but then says that they still have to fund the development of the game and that the ship sales are a necessary evil.
      Imagine being a developer and how... depressing it would be to read all of the negative comments.
      Making content on TH-cam has given me a small perspective of how those negative comments can actually weigh you don't every once in a while.

    Im still going to solo large ships. I hate micro management not even sure what the point of engineering is other than fixable ships. I don’t want to be forced to play with others because I own a large ship paid with real money.

      I don't believe it's going to be something really forced upon you. But the point of it is to give the other large percentage of the player base that wants this type of thing something to do onboard large ships.

    At 10:00; What is considered a "massive" ship to fly solo, my C2 is the biggest ship I have and likely stay that way, but is it "massive"? ;-)
    Will I be required to hire an NPC or Player as an Engineer or Gunner, etc...?
    I hope AI blades(?) get introduced soon (same time or before, NPC crewman) so I can automate the ships turrets (primarily / defensive fire, secondary / offensive fire)?
    There will need to be ways of jettisoning components, ie: power plant, jump drive, etc... before they can destroy the ship.

      Personally for me, massive ships are like capital ships. I think solo flying a C2 or Reclaimer will still be possible. Just require a bit more hard work to run. I agree with having ways to remotely jettison a components being added. I think that would be pretty essential.
      I'm hoping AI blades get introduced as well. They'll be a necessity if shard populations aren't high enough. But we'll see when it's added and when Dynamic Server Meshing is in.

      @@Hav0k if we get AI crew, I believe that they shouldn't be able to fill gunner positions. People start playing this game for the interaction in space. i have no clue why you would want to play an immersive multiplayer game using AI as your crew. At that point just play COD, truck sims, or DCS. All three provide better version of their respective gameplay loops.

      @fathead8933 Unfortunately that won't be the case. AI Blades will be able to fill turret roles and the devs have confirmed this.
      For some people I guess they enjoy the aspect though. *shrug*
