51:10 Having to care about atmosphere in your ship is such an elemental thing in sci-fi, I'm gonna loose it if they get rid of it because of it being tedious
I called it well before engineering arrived: a bunch of contentr creators and redditors will cry to the high heavens about engineering and CIG will likely have to scale it all back. Just watch.
Pirating will now become ship fight then BOARD AND FPS combat because once a ship is disabled, everyone inside is still alive, likely repairing and getting ready for the pirates or enemies to attempt to board their ship. Gone are the days of pilots going down with the ship 90% of the time during a dogfight. The ship will just disable but no one will be dead (unless they took an unlucky ballistic round to the dome throught the armor). I think this is being overlooked
Unless it takes place in atmo -- and the ship nose dives into the ground. But if the pilot is good enough they might be able to glide the ship into the ground without everyone going kaput.
I like oxygen and atmosphere, it's the truly changing gameplay because you have to always account for it. Finally all those doors from Crusader ships might be useful.
Might be? Will be. Especially once they get the locking refactor working right. You could technically lock the doors when pirates come aboard and then vent all the oxygen. That will create quite the scene to behold.
@@Gnarfendorf Yeah but they would be stuck and using up their own oxygen supply, especially if they don't have a dedicated suit for EVA thrusters. It puts a small bit of favour back into the hands of the ship owner.

From everything I’ve heard the server meshing part of the testing and server performance went pretty well, but it showed how badly out of date the ATC and transit subsystems are and are going to be a potential problem moving forward. Edit: concerning the O2 thing, it may be a problem initially but they will need to have doors be smarter and sense when there is either a vacuum or non-breathable atmosphere on the other side and not automatically open if that is the case as well as tell the player at the door the atmosphere status and requirement to open the door. Without “smart doors” things will be a bit painful for a bit.

Mike what's your thoughts on selling paint cans and allow you to paint your own ships. Say $0.05 per can. The can has enough to paint half an arrow. If you repair your ship the paint stays. If you claim the ship, you have to repaint it. Then maybe add were you can save your paint job so you can reapply it but you still have to buy the paint.
In Business, usually you set permissions via roll. So the easiest way to solve that problem would be assign Gunner, Gunner can touch XYNZ. Assign so-and-so to engineer, he can touch and control ABCDEFNG.
I agree that it would probably be a bad experience if you just got into a fight and mid-combat randomly got shot through the ship's hull while trying to repair it. But the idea of that mechanic does sound fun to me if it's implemented in a way that doesn't feel like you die too early, getting 'robbed' of a fun gameplay experience due to bad luck you cannot react to. My thought would be that ballistics can only have a chance to penetrate the ship's hull when its armor is entirely depleted. By this point your ship is mostly dead in the water, the battle is over and now you need to either hide in your ship until the other player has depleted all their ammunition due to blind firing into your hull, or attempt to repair. Both before they attempt to board.
You said remove the power plant and they can't destroy your ship. I beg to differ, I have had reclaimers specifically for that role. Consume your ship whole instead of boarding.
did anyone think that with the introduction of ship armour the types of weapons will fit into different categories? ballistics will have penetration which will hit components and cause more damage and possibly damage characters. laser weapons will heat armour and components creating heat damage and possibly fire. this will make it so ships will have different mixed weqpon loadouts and will force management of weapon groups and ammo in engagements.
The only reason I can see to critically fail a power plant is if it's switched on. Once it's off, you could argue that it's now just a brick of metal and shooting it to death is like shooting a nuke to death.
