      People who buy it outside of their comfort zone. They may be able to “afford it” no problem. But in their mind, it’s “too nice of a car to get wet in the rain, put miles on etc” so they don’t drive it. I don’t think it’s about affording it, it’s about being mentally comfortable driving something so expensive and wanting to “baby” it

    • @venoxee4954
      @venoxee4954 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @amac8487 Fair point, though in my experience, it's the maintenance and especially depreciation of cars value that causes these cars to never see track and collect dust

    • @amac8487
      @amac8487 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@venoxee4954 Yeah, I mean depreciation is definitely a thing, but I think people blow that out of proportion as well. Once you factor in insurance, gas, maintenance, and start to calculate the cost per each mile, people would be a little more aware that they need to drive their car. I think the "track" issue is that most are just scared to go because they never have and don't know how/where to start. That a whole other story. The thing with maintenance; whether you put 500 miles or 20k miles on every 2 years, the bigger services still need to be done. Every year need an oil change, whether 1 mile or 10k miles. It needs to be done. I own a 718 and 992S. They cost me just as much to sit in my garage, unused, insured, as they do to use them.

    I worked for a Porsche dealership while I was in high school and quit when I started going to college this past summer. While I was there, we got a lot of new GT3's, GT4's, and just high specced cars in. We were one of the only dealerships that didn't charge over msrp on the GT cars, but I understand why dealerships would. Certain dealerships get a certain amount of cars, and if the dealer isn't in California, Texas, or Florida, majority of the time you have to wait a LONG time to get one. We got only 5 allocations a year for the 992 GT3, and there are more than 5 people who want them. That caused older models to get more expensive during the pandemic and there has been a surge of appreciation for the older models like the 997 and 996 in the past few years. I believe this is true primarily because of fact that it was harder to get the new cars and they made so "few" of them for what the demand was. I believe that the prices will dip a tiny amount, but I believe they will always be MSRP for the rest of our lives. Once the 911 switches to being a hybrid, which is supposedly coming for the 992.2 generation, I feel like the older cars will gain appreciation. Especially the 997's of all trims and the 991's. The new 992's have a lot of driver aid and are much easier to drive compared to the older ones and don't feel as connected to the road like the older ones did.

    Can't agree with some of your comments. GT cars rarely sold for much less than msrp pre-covid. Maybe 3% off at the most! Also, Porsche is still making special/limited edition low volume cars today. They may not be numbered editions but the demand still outweighs supply. Porsche enthusiasts that can afford a GT3 or GT4RS aren't worried about interest rates.

    I watch the market daily, and the desirable models e.g. the 991 and 992 S models are not really going down. The 911 T models are still floating around $100k. The fact that Porsche is going to raise the MSRP on the new 992.2 is only going to drive used prices up. I think anyone looking for a 911 better grab one soon. The other models you mentioned are not enthusiast cars (Taycan, Cayenne, Macan, Panamera) and yes those are dropping like stones. I feel bad for Taycan owners as all electric cars are taking a hit this year.

      100% agree. I’ve been 991.2 shopping for more than six months, patiently waiting for the prices to start coming down. It’s not happening. In fact, in the last month alone supply seems to have dwindled and prices have stabilized, or in some cases even bumped back UP a tad depending on where in the country you’re looking and what specific model you’re shopping. Good luck finding a 2017 991.2 CPO C4 GTS with less than 30k miles for under 130k. A 2017 CPO C4S with under 30k miles and a modest options package will still set you back 115k easily. Point being, a 911 is NOT the same bird as a Cayenne, Panamera, or Taycan. And a GT3 with an MSRP of 180k that sold used for 250k a year ago but is now selling for 200k is NOT depreciation people! As atrocious as the US economy already is, and with the potential for it to get significantly worse in 2024, there are still more individuals out there with cash in hand than there are 911s to be had. Pretty simple supply and demand. I sincerely hope I’m wrong as I’d much rather spend 100k on a 30k mile 991.2 CPO C4 GTS than 130k+.

    You're missing an important data point. During the pandemic, upper income earners who were heavily invested in crypto and tech stocks were seeing record high prices which translated into more disposable income to purchase toys. This additional money available for buyers allowed for more competition to purchase these limited models also contributing to higher prices.
    This was also affected the prices of boats, motorcycles and off road toys like side by sides. The dealer markups were completely insane during the pandemic and people were happily paying it.

    💯 the Porsche 911 market is not “crashing“, it is slowly reverting back to the mean. There’s a big difference with word choice when it comes to describing these markets.
    Granted, I do agree that the prices that were extremely inflated for certain special models was out of range for many buyers, but that does not affect all buyers. Though many people get upset at dealerships for the ADM, that’s the free market economy at work.

    Also BaT had a much different reputation pre-Covid. It was known as a site where you could get easy sales, but generally you'd noticeably underperform the market versus selling at a dealer. During Covid, BaT blew up to be some market setting auction platform.

All the good quality used cars had been sold. Then the barely acceptable. Once we got to the crap selling marked up you knew the end was nigh.

    So what model year 911 can I purchase, not get ripped off, and still enjoy? To me, that's the real question.

    Ok. So the ridiculous market conditions that led to the higher prices has now changed.
    There are no special deals here. Just market normalisation.
    Beautiful cars though. Would love one.

    Whole video was was too positive about the situation. "Look, cars are getting mildly closer to the standard MSRP prices they were listed at (but weren't selling at) 4 years ago!" They still have a long, long way to drop.

      Get an Elantra N for $33k. Seems like the logical “step up” from an SI considering a Type R is double that.

    Most long term Porsche people have always been driver focused. It's the Italian crew and flippers in this case that brag about low miles. The dirtiest 911 has the best stories anyway. As far as value, more people are learning that a well maintained higher millage modern car is worth more than a garage queen.

    Several billion dollars given to thousands of small and medium business owners without any tax liability. That’s the catalyst behind the 2021 price explosion on all things high performance. You could see it in the buyers giddy faces at Mecum as they spent the free money. Now it’s 2024 and the bubble has burst which was obvious at the Kissimmee auction

    Only car flippers and those with outrageous payments are screwed. I own all of my cars. And each car is worth a car. The dollar value is irrelevant to me. I never sell my cars, just add to collection. Sounds like next time I add to the fleet it'll be a little easier on the wallet. Great news.

    Anything pre Plannedemic was cheap, Euro, American, German cars. Facts!!! 987 Base Caymans were selling for $15k and S models for $20k with good miles . Boxster 986's Cheap, I picked up a one owner 61k mile manual for $5,500, 996 911's Base and Carrera S $13-$20k 1999-2001, 997 GT3's, $72k-$85k
    Now? Ridiculous still. Only ones dropping in price are the bigger fatter wider 991-992's have dropped. 981 Caymans, ridiculous prices, before the plannedemic a base 981 $32k 981S $39k, now look at them, still 3 plus years later still much higher than that. 🤦
