@@plusheeview1482 We in the western culture have done this for hundreds of years idealising some kind of waist and woe betide the female who is straight up and down or even apple shaped. And I dare not think of the difficulty of women with broader shoulders than hips. Everyone has their own unique figure and the best we can do is find what looks best with our own figure and riff on that. What works on ‘almost everybody’ does not cut the mustard. We should help each other doing that, finding things that make us feel really comfortable in our skin. It took me decades to do that…

Like this video...but FYI - the dresses you are showing under sheath dresses are mostly shift dresses. They fall more straight to the hemline. A sheath dress has darts that fit it to the figure in the front and back. Shift dresses skim the figure and fall more straight to the hem.

My grandmother (I am 72) wore a wrap dress like that around the house. It was called a "house coat". In cheap printed cotton with bias bound edges, it was just a version of an apron.

I had several DVF wrap dresses back in the day and loved them, although sometimes the dress cuffs were a bit too exaggerated. Still, I’d love to find one now. And shirt dresses tend to look too matronly on me.

I love and wear all three of these dress shapes, and she is right - there is a variation that can work for virtually any body type. Variations include length, fullness, the presence or absence of gathers/darts/shaping, and neckline. You simply try on until you find what fits and flatters. If you don’t know where to shop locally, go online and search for “midi wrap dress with collar” or whatever you want. If you sew, there are patterns for every variation. Try different belts placed higher and lower; add a scarf if you’re self conscious about your neck; take mirror photos of each outfit so you can look at it objectively. Finding what looks good takes a bit of work, but it’s worth it.

Certain figures require certain dress styles. There is no dress that looks good on every woman. Some of those models looked hideous in those outfits. Saying they looked great doesn’t make it so. Many of the comments pointed out that you don’t even know the difference between a shift and a sheath dress. Wearing a shirt dress open as a jacket makes it no longer a dress. It is better for each woman to explore her own preferences and develop her own style.

These types/ models of dresses do not impress me ! Besides, some dresses are not of the same model although put in the same category !

Love the wrap dress!! sheath dresses are fine but for my body type, i need one with waist definition and not the shapeless kind that was featured in this vid.Shirt dresses do not suit me as im short and busty.so to me the 2nd and 3rd dress suggestion does not suit all body types.

I'd wish you'd show models of all shapes to prove these dress styles suit every body type! What waistline? The best type of dress for someone with a tummy is the empire line.😢

When I was young & slim I could wear sheaths. I often wore shifts as well. Wrap dresses not so much. Not my thing. Shirt dresses are fine, but I don't often find them in attractive fabrics or weights. Or find them at all. Most new outfits seem to be designed for skinny minnies or tall Paula's. I don't want to buy new just to let out seams or re-hem to my height. Such a nuisance! I was never Twiggy
or Melania. I always especially liked Princess styles, very slimming (or empire waistlines when I was young.)

I hate wrap dresses. I’ve had a huge bosom since I was 13. I’ve tried numerous wrap dresses and they look awful. I had to pin the top to keep from exposing myself.

I understand your frustration! Perhaps styles with a square neckline or a less deep V-neck would suit you better. Customized alterations might also help.

The DVF wrap dress was for large breasted women. It did not fit right unless you had large breasts to fill out the top.

Wrap dresses were terrible on me. I have a but that sticks out, over 10" difference between waist and hips. The dress doesn't close or closes on an angle.

Afraid to look. NO "V' necks please, boat necklines only, shoulder to shoulder. 3/4 length sleeves and 34" long - midi length, sheath style. Like a slim Audrey Hepburn look for hourglass figure. No exposed body parts.

Left out my shape with big boobs ,a defined waist but large hips. So big difference between waist and hips. Wrap dress makes my hips look massive.Sheath dresses would never fit me. Straight up and down figures win out . Shirt dresses are not dresses when worn as a duster as demonstrated for full figures.

    wrap dress.. on me.. nope.
Maybe if one was custom but otr.. always looks maternity on me. I've got that Barbara Stanwick long waist going on.
Um.. someone needs to do some research on shift and sheath dresses.. they are not the same thing.
Shirt dress.. all day, every day.
