  • I drive a Porsche Taycan 4 S and the Lucid Air Touring back to back and try to present you with my unbiased first drive impressions. I purposely did not watch any comparison reviews of the two cars before this review so that it did not bias my opinions. Please note that these are solely my thoughts and may vary from the impression of others.
    Time line:
    3:44 Lucid Interior
    6:54 Lucid design flaws
    8:28 Lucid Drive
    14:17 Porsche interior- brief contrasts
    15:16 Porsche Taycan drive

    As a Lucid Air GT & Tesla owner I can say with absolute certainty that Lucid Air is the best EV currently in production. Range is still king and with 500+ miles nothing comes close. It’s the total package. Beauty, range, speed, storage, comfort, luxury, quality, efficiency, and in my personal experience with over 50k+ miles driven, very durable. The Porsche is nice but the Lucid is on another level. Cheers!

    Just to let you know. When you are doing Electric car comparison. You should include battery size range and efficiency. Also the price. The difference between the 4s and the Touring is pretty much around 20k+ . I am both a Lucid and Porsche fan but Lucid drive train is leaps ahead of Porsche especially in efficiency. Indeed the brakes of Lucid isnt up to par as a Sports car but the Sapphire did have the Ceramic brakes since nobody will track a GT Touring and pure anyway.

    As a new Lucid owner, I want to weigh in on some points in the video. First, it isn't easy to reach the seat controls with the door closed. In my experience, this is only true if you have huge hands or are wearing gloves. This can be alleviated by using the more than capable and easy-to-access touch menu. Second, the magnetic vanity mirror in the visor opens using the tab on the side, and when opened fully, the light comes on, and it remains open. There are a lot of great features, and the luxury and materials in the cabin are top-notch, but not everything is first class with the car and its operation. Thank you for this well-done review.

    FYI....the vanity mirrors have a magnetic hold, but the material used on them is so stiff, that until it is broken in, the hold function really doesn't work very well, which is why you probably thought there was no hold feature.

    I just sold my Tesla Plaid for a 2022 Lucid Air Dream with 1050 hp. The Tesla sat so low to the ground that it hurt my back. I had a Maybach for the Tesla. The Lucid is a 🪮 of both.

    The low rolling resistance tires on your Lucid are a major handicap when it comes to handling. Next time you do a tire change get some good Michelin Pilot sport 4, these transform the handling. Incidentally the steering rack in the Lucid comes straight out of the 991 GT3, with a slight different calibration. When you will get the new tires, you will see that the Lucid is a canyon carving monster, and I'm not exaggerating here.
    PS The Lucid is a fine looking sedan, but I loooove the looks of the Taycan though.

    This was a good review in most regards, but I do have a couple comments.
    The Lucid's seat mounted controls are for guests or those just getting in the car for the first time. More comprehensive seat adjustments are accessed through the screen and then saved to the driver's profile. Profiles for several drivers can be saved and the car recognizes each when seated.
    Your Lucid was equipped with the smaller and more efficient Eco tires. These do improve range measurably but have a negative impact on sporty driving, especially cornering. Two larger wheel sizes are available. My Air GT has the 21" option and cornering on fast mountain roads is both sharp and reliable.
    The Taycan is a lovely car but room for both luggage and rear seat passengers is limited. You didn't mention price but Taycan 4S with just the options I could identify from your video is $42,855 more than a Lucid Air Touring with the optional glass roof. The sportier Air GT loaded would be a more reasonable comparison.

  • @JohnsonThomasMD

    Taycan drives better. Especially cornering is much better. It is a bit hard to brake, slow down and then accelerate at turns with Lucid when compared to Taycan. But in comfort and luxury Lucid beats Taycan.

    Awesome Review! well said that both of these cars are for two different types of people.
    Personally here are my thoughts (im sure alot will disagree)
    Lucid has the better value, more luxury features, and better battery/drivetrain
    Porsche has the better support (more established company/easy servicing), better driving experience (though this is opinion and not fact) and better ui.
    I like the porsche as it has a more similar experience to an ICE even though being a EV. The coasting like an ICE is what i want in an EV. But at the end of the day, i still like the Lucid more due to the luxury components.

    Even though the Germans have been building cars for a longer time, they seem not to be able to build efficient EVs. The Lucid is more aerodynamic and efficient than the Porche. Also, need to take into account that, the Air is Lucid’s first attempt. Give them a decade or two, and it will build a superior product than any of the German brands. One point to note is that, not being able to make an efficient car is not unique with the Germans. For what I have seen and read, most of the legacy brands are struggling to define what an actual EV is. Take Tesla for example. They can produce EV’s much more efficient and economical than most legacy automakers and have been around for over a little of a decade. Like them or hate them, they can teach any legacy automaker how to build a an efficient EV that people want to buy. Now, as to which of the two cars, the Lucid or the Porche is better, well the Porche has brand recognition and better built quality. But as an EV I think it’s so so. The Lucid on the other hand, doesn’t have brand recognition and its built quality should improve, it’s a superior EV in every shape or form.

    LOL this is a massively biased review. Taycan gets a range in the mid 200 miles, Lucid gets over 400, and you imply that they could get the same range. Ridiculous. The difference in interior space (both passenger and storage) is massive as well but you barely mention it.

    • @carminered3229
      @carminered3229  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are right about those points. I simply preferred the drive of the Taycan over the Lucid. Others who value space and range and don't mind the growing pains of a new car company will prefer the Lucid.

    Porsche isn't that good at EVs yet. They are about 7 yrs behind in software and about 4 yrs behind in hardware. Where's the full self driving? Zip! Nothing! Makes it a dumb car.

    • @carminered3229
      @carminered3229  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I guess they have different philosophies. The typical sports car driver cares more about the driving dynamics and handling than self driving IMHO.
