    For those who don’t have enough for a full setup, buying a controller ($60-200), a simulator ($15), and maybe a tinywhoop setup ($160) is the ultimate hack for getting started with FPV without breaking the bank. Thank you for sharing your experience in such an entertaining and educational way.

    Just a note for future flyers: many waterfalls in Iceland (including some in this video) have restrictions for no drones. This is because of many unskilled people crashing and not every tourist appreciates drones zipping around. Have fun, but just be aware and considerate out there!!

These types of bans are designed to catch the unskilled and deter them, If you crash they got you if you dont they will likely never find you with the range on these drones. The barrier to entry has become so low it was only a matter of time the before the law decided to stop idiots. I get NAS safety and flying around aircraft should be avoided but the bureaucrats that think they can just ban anything from plastic straws to smoking are gonna get ignored.

    I'm new and just bought the tango 2 controller. I was completely lost in the liftoff simulator and almost gave up. After 4 hours of crashing in the sim, it finally clicked. Now I can fly around and do basic maneuvers and generally go where I want to go. It's amazing and can't wait to start flying a real drone.
    If you're new and the sim is confusing as hell, don't give up. Just keep crashing and it'll eventually click for you too. I still don't know exactly how I'm controlling it, but my fingers and brain seem to have developed some muscle memory on its own.

    You don't need to pretend to talk! A voice over works well and is less distracting than pretending to talk. I don't mean this in a rude way the video was high quality and the information was beyond detailed and better than good!Again I am not trying to be rude as I am a bilingual person that english was my second language. It is now my first and french is my second well quebecois which is just more slang style of french they speak in the Quebec province of Canada. I am saying all this so you know I am not trying to be rude only giving a personal observation. Thankyou for the videos, knowledge experience, and personal opinions for of novice flyers out here! You know that saying your personal observations can be very rude too right? Even if you claim you don't mean them to be, even if you try to overemphasise and explain in detail how you're not being rude. Rather if you feel the need to spend most of the comment defending against its appearance of rudeness that's probably a good warning sign to tell you that you are in fact being quite rude and know it and feel guilty of it deep down so should probably just keep your personal observations and criticisms to yourself and hold your tongue in that time.
      And I'm afraid you being bilingual just says to me that you should probably understand the difficulties with such things better than most and thus should be less quick to judge and insult for it.
      That said I do genuinely respect that you do seem to have the good character to actually feel guilty about it and not want to appear overly rude at least or correct it which speaks well of you and is awhole lot more than many self-entitled, self-important whiney little twats who think everyones like their over-pampering mommys who tells them theyre special way too much and whom could do with a few strong doses of man-medicine aka being punched in the face and their big fat mouths hard enough to turn the filter button on whom i see on here would do or feel when they're being rude and dickish behind a keyboard.

    The explorer is still my favorite been flying it for 3 or 4 years. I love how stealth it is. It’s super quiet with tri blades. I’ve had plenty of racers too but there’s just something I really like about low slower controlled flying. You get to see more detail in the environment when you’re not blasting at 100mph which is also fun lol.

    Gotta say, this FPV drone stuff reminds me of certain parts of the old Myst games. Specifically, the special Books you could use to travel between worlds, which those games used as a core mechanic. Each book would have an image panel, of sorts, at the front of the book, but the "image" would actually be a moving video of the place you would be taken to if you used it. The format of those little video clips would usually be a long run-up to the general area around the arrival point, followed by 3-5 seconds of circular touring around the location, spiraling in towards the final destination, until at last the camera's POV would settle into a simple orbit around the arrival point, after which it would continue looping that final orbit section, until you either used the book, or closed it.

      Also random point, I tested the BN-220 GPS back to back against the iFlight GPS (which is 3X the price) and the BN-220 GPS performed better every time. There's no need to buy the GPS from either iFlight or GEPRC, the Beitian BN-220 works flawlessly.

      I've heard that the GEPRC drones are for the intermediate to expert when it comes to flying. You also need to learn which system within the drone is right for you. Also, you need to acquire a radio, goggles as well as batteries. On the plus side, you will learn a lot just by doing your own research. Nothing wrong with the Avata as that is perfect for beginners to learn the basics of flying FPV and also build confidence. The good thing about the Avata is the built quality and the battery life is a bit better compared to other Cinewhoop drones. There are many videos out there not recommending the Avata because it's too slow (not really), too loud (change the props). These are usually folks that have many hours with advanced FPV drones. But, I recommend that you get back into it.

    Wow... Thanks for this superb video ... I'll keep my story as brief as possible: I'm in Canada, and flew my first drone last year: the DJI Mini 2, and loved it... but I was not happy discovering what was sold to me was actually an 'open box' from the retailer (for $700, full retail price - Fly More combo). So for a few hundred $$ more I traded it in for a Mini 3 Pro, Fly More Plus Combo, and absolutely ADORED that one - for one whole day, as the remote proved to be defective (left stick pushed in too easily, and I was stuck with a 'remote calibration error')... sooo.. no replacement even at the retailer, so a couple hundred MORE $$, I wound up with the DJI Mavic Air 2S. Although it had the best camera, it was a bit too large and loud for my liking (and the Mini 3 Pro took much better evening and low-light shots) ... good thing I got the DJI Care Plus, I crashed it soon after I got it, but I believe the gimbal was faulty (constant gimbal errors since the first week). So up till just yesterday, I still had one more replacement before August. While attempting to have it track my vehicle on a journey home down a quiet road, it mis-tracked and hit a tree on its side - and fell in to rather deep water, just off the road in a swamp. I'd sure like it back, I'll try to find it again today, but I'm an older guy at almost 60, not in that good of shape physically, and kids in their 20's that are staying at my gf's house are brutally lazy even after I offer $50 to have them find it, refuse to get their feet wet in a swamp... so my odds are not good at recovering it, and I can't afford the fly-away replacement cost right now. But I DO get more work in the summertime, and was planning and getting a Mini 3 Pro variant once again - OR an Avata combo. You sir, seem to be very honest and knowledgeable in areas of cinewhoop and FPV, and thanks to this I believe I'm gonna take a much better, more efficient road on my journey of remote aircraft flying. This in itself a great beginner information hub for me, and can't thank you enough!

    Great video! Super informative! I'm looking for an upgrade to my Avata. Will the Cinebot 30 work with my DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 that I already have until I can save up a few bucks and replace it with a TBS Tango 2? Also curious how hard it would be to add a TBS Crossfire receiver later if I swap everything over to the Tango 2 controller? Just trying to take some baby steps towards getting more serious drones and the Cinebot 30 + a GoPro mini looks like a great next step up from my Avata! Thanks again for breaking this down so well for a noob like me :)

      @redcobra1246 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The controller 2 works if you choose the o3 "pnp" unit (no additional receiver). To use elrs or tbs you'd have to solder a receiver to the flight controller, then in betaflight enable the "serial rx" on the port you soldered it to, in the receiver tab choose "serial" and "crsf", and then setup the channels in the "modes" tab.

    • @DarwinAllen
      @DarwinAllen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@redcobra1246 thanks man. Sounds like a bit of a hassle, but doable. Good to know!

    • @redcobra1246
      @redcobra1246 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Darwin Allen I forgot to mention, with elrs you have to flash the receiver as well. I do it through wifi. I'm not familiar with how it's done with tbs.
      Yeah it's a pain the first couple of times. Once you're familiar with it it really takes less than 5 min (except the soldering). If you buy a bnf you're better off buying it straight with the receiver

    • @DarwinAllen
      @DarwinAllen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@redcobra1246 thanks for the advice. And yeah it's looking like I'll just spend the extra few hundred on a new radio and get the receiver factory installed. I know how to solder but if I can avoid it I do. I think I'll start a separate quad as a build from scratch project.

    Hey - I love what you’re doing. Thank you. Question - why would somebody pick a 4S over a 6S for your typical outdoor freestyle drone like the Mark five you recommend. Do you get a significantly longer run time?

    • @JmacBogan
      @JmacBogan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      my question also, i want to know if he prefers 4s over 6s

    • @redcobra1246
      @redcobra1246 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From my experience 4s batteries are lighter so you generally get better agility and the drone is quieter. 6s batteries give you more power and more flight time.

    • @ddegn
      @ddegn 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@redcobra1246 I'm pretty sure 4S packs aren't necessarily lighter than 6S for the same Watt Hour capacity. By using the appropriate kV motors, the rpm (and noise) of the props can be identical between a 4S and 6S quad. Higher voltages almost always makes any motor system more efficient. Higher voltages allows power to be delivered with fewer amps. Wires can be thinner in a higher voltage system than with a system with lower voltages. Professional camera drones often use 12S systems. The main downside to high voltage systems is the cost. High voltage ESCs cost more than ESCs used for lower voltage systems. The motors for high voltage systems also cost more than similar motors for low voltage systems. If you can get electronics to handle it, you're almost always better off going for higher voltage.
      Another (claimed) big plus for the high cell count quads is the reduced voltage sag when the throttle is slammed. I've heard this claim many times, but I'm not a good enough pilot to really know how much this matters.
      One downside for high voltage systems is the nasty spark you get when plugging in (and unplugging) a battery. There are ways around this spark but it's something to keep in mind.

    • @redcobra1246
      @redcobra1246 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ddegn I meant to say they're more zippy. For a standard fpv drone of 800-1200mah 4s tend to be lighter than 6s. 6s has more power but it's bulkier

    I wonder if it’s possible to have a robotic drone that works as a signal relay, that uses triangulation to keep itself in-between the drone you’re controlling and the controller, and at a higher altitude, so that you can have a greater effective range, and avoid geographic signal barriers, like the ridge on that island or the mountains around the glacier.

    Good points about DJI FPV. One more thing, you won’t be able to fly it wherever you want and need to send request to china to unlock geo-area. Yes, even if you fly in Argentina, you still need to send paperwork to private Chinese company to fly your own drone you paid thousand dollars. And they might decline it. Moreover, in US now you can’t even fly it at all unless you connect a smartphone with GPS to goggles. This is ridiculous.
