  • Ok, so many people told me that it was a mistake for me to listen to the Babymetl / Rob Halford awards show performance before really getting my feet wet with Babymetal. So, the suggestion was to react to this song. So, here it is! Road of Resistance!

this performance was literally capturing lightning in a bottle. they do have some darker themed songs. "death" is particularly good. "papaya" even blends some rap elements in the song,so there's a lot of diversity to explore with them.

(song is called 'Babymetal Death' btw and I would strongly recommend the live Legend 1997 version 😉)

same here. maybe not 1000 times, but certainly more than any other video i've watched on you tube in the last 10 or more years. you just can't take your eyes off the screen. now that i'm starting to watch reactors viewing it i may just get to 1000 lol. the problem is i spend more time watching the video than the reactors!

@DannyD714 Yes, i have that problem as well 😁 dont forget every reaction you have watched, and every time you watched ĵust on TH-cam, any BabyMetal streams. The first time i saw it, i watched it a few times a day for a couple of weeks . Maybe not a thousand but close 😁 maybe 999 times if i count every performance 🤣🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

Good one👊🏽⚡️As always appreciate the honesty. I saw a funny comment about Slayer’s music, “……It makes me wanna punch kittens in the face!” Well Babymetal’s music generally isn’t that. But it may make you wanna find the person punching the kittens and punch them.🦊🤘🏾

Good reaction, I thought you might appreciate them doing their own song in their own concert better than the awards show. This video was from January 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena. Su was 17, Yui and Moa only 15 and that was over 20,000 people completely under their control. Even at that age Su just looks at the crowd, spreads her arms and the crowd opens up for a wall of death (actually several walls of death at that concert as the crowd were in sections. A journalist up in the balcony that night said he counted, I think it was, 21 mosh pits).
This was also the end of a 90 minute concert - they had been keeping that same energy up without any drop in quality for the whole time. It is what they do - they appreciate people have often paid a lot of money and travelled a long way to see them, they never give anything less than 100% for every song at every concert, whether that is one of their big arena concerts in Japan or at the many various sized venues as they tour the world.
About the song itself - 'Road of Resistance', as you thought, is a very positive song, it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow.
Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song (it is the only one they were involved in) and recorded the guitars for the album version. They have said they made this more technical and faster than most of their own songs thinking they would never have to play it live ... and that they had to practice hard when they did perform it with BABYMETAL at an awards show in London later in 2015 (again, don't go trying to find that for a while😉😏).
This was the Kami Band playing live of course - on guitars were Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura with BOH on his 6 string bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums.
'Megitsune' (the official video is very good, personally I prefer live and there are some very good live versions about - Red Fox Festival is my favourite, but isn't easy to find) would be the song I would introduce somebody to BABYMETAL with, but there are some other very good suggestions in the comments below already.

This was one of their legendary performances, good choice to react to. One of the fun things about BM is the lore associated with them. Everytime they have one of their huge shows in Japan more of that lore is told before, during and after the show. When they return to the tour in mid August they're going to tell more of that lore at a show in Japan. They've been hinting at something big that's coming since their return from hiatus in January. Whatever it is it should be fascinating, at this point we've come to expect nothing less from them

Nice reaction! I am of the generation that went rock crazy around the time of Woodstock in 1969. For example, I was astonished by the voices of Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin among female singers. Later, in the 80's, I got tired of the gimmicks and acrobatic guitar techniques of heavy metal and stopped listening to rock music.
However, a few years ago, I saw "Road of Resistance" and I was very impressed. This song had what I had been looking for for 50 years since Woodstock.

"Happy metal" or "feelgood metal" are often terms that are used to describe Babymetal, and its very much in line what what the ethos and spirit of the band is. Positivity, optimism, friendship, and pushing through hardship to a better future are all themes that run through their lyrical content, and their songs are almost always upbeat and energetic to reflect those positive messages. Its very much the antithesis of what most metal is about, but for me as an old metalhead, its what I love about Babymetal; they are an antidote to all the dour negativity and cynicism of the rest of the metal scene.

3:26 _Now Pizza Time (Pizza Time!)_ 🦊🤘🍕
Welcome back to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's journey.🦊🤘🔥
Nice to see you're back with this suggestion. Now with another hit they don't wanna leave behind in almost any of their setlist, like recently at Sabaton's Europe Tour and later at Asian and Australian Tour.
_Road Of Resistance_ is a fantastic power/speed metal song, is one of their most epic anthem and the album version got the guitar arrangements made by Sam Totman and Herman Li from DragonForce, that's why some got "Through The Fire and Flames" vibes, and is all about facing your own path without looking back.
The wall of death is nuts just like you noticed, is also called "mosh'sh pit", different from usual mosh pit because this one is safe to participate if you fall everyone will stop until you get up and get ready to keep going with the fun ride.
This was part of the Trilogy Of 2015 series of concerts, live at New Year Fox Festival - Saitama Super Arena, is the last song of the encore they performed and finishing the show. By this time their fame was already high due to viral success on YT of Gimme Chocolate! MV, people from all over the world attended this live concert in Japan, and 20K souls witnessed this epic moment.
With only 15 and 17 years old this moment will be forever remember when they performing this song to reminds them all the support they got from their fans no matter where they go, either a small or big stages.
The Kami Band here are magnificent set of elite musicians who were send to help the girls with the metal sound, they rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarists), all of them are males.
BM fans love some members of this band but none of them are official members of this group not even permanent, they only play live, so when you heard album tracks remember they aren't playing there.
    In this case they are:
    - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording certain songs.
    - Takayoshi Ohmura, god of guitar, he's Míkio' Fujioka's pupil (another beloved Kami Band guitarist who sadly past away) and a prodigy child, you'll see his recognizable pink guitar or golden in other moments.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP.
    - Hideki Aoyama, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japanese music scene.
At the end of their shows they always said "We are BabyMetal!" with the crowd, to making them sure that they're part of this show and project too, is a line borrowed to X-Japan saying it at live concerts too.
If you like this type of metal genre then you're gonna love another previous song from first album called:
    - *"Ijime Dame Zettai"* live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 and witness a precious and epic moment on their career. You can find that clip in the official channel but just be careful coz sometimes is getting blocked issues.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and analysis on this, see you next time and don't forget to put your kitsune up!🦊🤘🔥

Sorry your introduction was so rocky. Glad you're finding your footing. Most BabyMetal music is upbeat and uplifting. When I try to describe it to other people, I call it 'Feel Good Metal.' :p And when I'm having a rough time, I watch BabyMetal to lift my spirits. Rondo of Nightmare is a little darker, but most of their songs aren't (though you'll probably like that one. It's awesome and the intro is amazing). I'm sure there will be plenty of recommendations, so I'll leave that to comment section. (You're not ready for Iine, Doki Doki Morning, or Uki Uki Midnight yet, tho. So if people rec those, *ignore them.* XD) 🤘🦊🤘

There are two more songs finishing that live show called:
    - Akatsuki Unfinished Version (which is a SuMetal solo and soft version of the original).
    - Babymetal Death, this one is usually an opener but here is an insane ending you're not ready for it, or maybe you are. Look for GuilhermeCait to get this clip with the intro translated in the description box.🦊🤘🔥

This was indeed, the final encore of an epic concert: New Year Fox Festival - Legend 2015. The whole concert was incredible, and still one of my favorites.
Being a power/speed metal fan helps but it's not even on my top five songs but certainly one of my favorite performances overall.
Apart of the obvious: the Kami Band playing perfectly as usual, the stage production, the singing, the choreo, etc. what I like the most is more about subjective aspects like the crowd interaction and the intensity of the girls and particularly Su-metal's who is a very expressive performer and you can clearly see here she's on fire specially during the second half of the song. That "Kakatte koi yaa!" ("Bring it on!") she shouts at one point shows it.

  • @autohmae

5:34 and the metal is melodic as well, which really helps to make it fit together I think.
Babymetal have a performance quality at such a young age which is hard to find among bands (usually comes from years of touring experience, this was before their second world tour year) and it's one of things which make Babymetal special in the world.
They look like they've performed this song 100s of times, but this was the 3rd live performance. Obviously they've trained it like crazy.
While we don't see what happens behind the scenes, because of the lore and their privacy, especially when they were kids this was a great idea, everything points to that the young ladies are in charge of delivering the live performance.

You seem fine when the Kami Band are playing but as soon as Su starts singing your eyes do start to glaze over a bit 😉 . I am so happy to see you enjoy this, it is one of a few performances and songs that I would say is 100% representative of them at their best. It's also the top of my list of suggestions to potential new listeners / fans.
The next four I usually suggest listed below. There are many others that are also fantastic, so much good to find, but these all strongly represent BM for different reasons.
Babymetal - Akatsuki「紅月 -アカツキ-」| LIVE at Budokan Black Night (Su-Metal solo, epic all around song and band performance)
BabyMetal - Headbanger Live Legend 1997 (Legend 1997 refers to lead singer Su-Metal birthyear, this concert is her 16th birthday, its great. It is fascinating to me they played this song twice in their setlist, the first opened the concert with an epic show, but it is a much less metal version than this performance. I love them both but the opener is much more an acquired taste)
Babymetal - MEGITSUNE「メギツネ」Five Fox Festival ver. ~~~~(this particular version has "red fox festival live" audio, it was a one night concert for women/girls only, the song has a strong theme of women empowerment, its brilliant to listen to the audience interaction parts. Megitsune is always good, this version I just love.)
BabyMetal - Death Legend 1997 Apocalypse Live (heavy metal theater, this finished the birthday concert. It's just crazy BM style.)

Fans analyzed that the provocative shout was thrown at people who had been ignoring, underrating, mocking, hating and even trying to discredit BABYMETAL. That shout may have been necessary in 2015 but not any longer. She shouted it rarely since then or she does it smilingly with her friendly voice now. The girls have grown up into beautiful ladies. Babymetal is ttly unique in so far as the positive messages, & vibes in their songs. It's in many ways antithetical to what is considered "Real" Heavy Metal, but it somehow works out well! I also love the wacky elements & mashups that can't work, but do! Being a hybrid type group, they can mix as many genres as they want & fans will support them! Probably The Most unique band i've ever heard & saw! I hope they continue to grow & evolve! Just keep it Metal! \v/

A few points I always like to make about this performance.
1, yes, it was the final song of a set that went on for ~90 minutes. They played a 13 song set (pretty long set for the amount of energy they put into every song), then, a 3 song encore.
2, Sumatal had just turned 17 less than 2 weeks prior to this show. Yui and Moa were 15 - note their crowd control in front of this sold out crowd of 36,000+
    ...
3, to make #2 even more impressive, this was the FIRST time this song was ever performed at a large concert in Japan. The studio album this song first appeared on was not released until more then a year later. Think about that when you are listening to 36k people during the acapella sing along... The world premier of the song was about 2 months prior, at the O2 Academy, Brixton UNITED KINGDOM (fitting, since Dragonforce did the guitar arrangement and performance for the studio recording). The O2 Academy has a standing room capacity of less than 5,000 people. The only other performance of this song was about 3 weeks prior to the show in the video you watched here. It was in Japan, but at a 3,000 person venue (the Toyosu PIT in Tokyo).
I said all of that to make the point that these girls, at 17 and 15, could control a crowd as well as any other professional musician I can think of, Freddie Mercury included. Considering that less than 8,000 people had seen this song performed at this point, yet, 36,000 were kept in sync by a 17 year old girl...
Even if you are not into their music, you have to respect them for what they have accomplished.

  • @mikeat2637
    @mikeat2637 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The thing that really slips by sometimes is that at this performance, Su-Metal was 17 years old and Yui and Moa were 15 years old, and they were handling the crowd like seasoned professionals, which by that time they were. This all began around 2010, when Su (Suzuka Nakamoto) was 13 and Moa (Moa Kikuchi) and Yui (Yui Mizuno) were 11 years old. Kei Kobayashi, the genius behind BM, developed the mythos and legend of BM. They worked very hard to develop this mystique that we know now as Baby Metal. They dabble in many different genres and kick ass in all of them. My personal favorite song is "Brand New Day", where they collaborated with Tim Henson and Scott LePage of Polyphia in a more progressive rock style of song. My other favorite song is "Night, Night, Burn", a one-off that they performed in Tokyo. It is a Latin-themed dance/metal/classic mambo song that I think is one their best live performances. There is just so much to watch and listen to. You should also react to their ode to their fans, "The One" where they also collaborated with Dragonforce in the guitar compositions. And there are several live videos with instrument intros by the Kami Band, Awadama Fever, Yava, Kagerou and several others. All worth reacting to.

Road of Resistance: Live In Japan 🇯🇵 @"Saitama Super Arena (SSA):-
"Road of Resistance" is a song by the Japanese Kawaii metal band Babymetal. The song was released worldwide as a digital single on February 1, 2015 by Toy's Factory, serving as the lead single off the international re-release of the album Babymetal, as well the opening track from Metal Resistance.
Su-Metal was 10 when she performed with Karen Girls at the SSA (SAITAMA SUPER ARENA). The Arena that night holds about 20000 Babymetal fans but when you see the centrepiece Island and the two curve bridge, it can hold up to 30000 or even up to 40000 depends on the configuration of Babymetal concert for each tour they performed. This song is co-written by Dragonforce with Herman Li and Sam Totman plays the guitar 🎸 solos, but Kami Band live show is brutal and tight. This is a classic Power Metal genre or speed metal as some might refer to. Bands like Dragonforce, Helloween and even Sabaton do power metal genre. Arkadia from Metal Galaxy Album is the successor to Road Of Resistance. At 17 Su-Metal alongside Yuimetal and Moametal who is 15 at that time, gave a perfect 👌 performance on how live show should be. This performance alone cemented my love ❤️ and appreciation for Babymetal. Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🤘😍💕🌸🇯🇵🇸🇬#notacult. .
    Babymetal singles chronology:-
    •"Megitsune" (2013).
    •"Road of Resistance" (2015).
    •"Gimme Chocolate!!" (2015).
    Background and release:-
"Road of Resistance" includes guest appearances by DragonForce guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman.
The song would be used to mark the beginning of the band's lore, Metal Resistance Episode III, at the concert held on November 8, 2014 at O2 Brixton Academy in London, which was also the final tour date for the band's Babymetal World Tour 2014.
A trailer for the song was released on January 5, 2015, integrating footage from the debut performance of the song in London. The song was first released as a digital bonus track off the live album Live at Budokan: Red Night, with limited editions of the album containing a download card with a code to download the song at no additional charge. The song was later released as a dedicated digital single on the iTunes Store on February 1, 2015.
Li and Totman are featured on guitars, although they are listed as featured artists in various regions of the re-release of the album Babymetal, on which the song appears as a bonus track, mainly in the United Kingdom.
    Composition:-
Rolling Stone described the song as "power metal" with "shiny pop harmonies". Rock Sound called the song "everything we’d expect from [Babymetal] with a bit of Dragonforce’s exhilarating, flame-fingered guitar added in for good measure." Matt Evans of The List called the song an "empowering hyperspeed anthem". According to Kadokawa, the song consists of twin shred guitars courtesy of Li and Totman, with a dynamic sound derived of melodic speed metal. The lyrics are described as a narrative on the Metal Resistance, which the band adopted on their world tour. It has also been considered the "final stage" of Babymetal and the prologue to Metal Resistance, and a transition performance that demonstrates the band's growth from the previous album.
According to Su-metal, the song refers to the Metal Resistance lore, described as "the story of Babymetal traveling across the world in the hopes of creating a new metal to unify the world as we break through the barriers of language and borders. In the middle of the song there is a part where we go, ‘Wow, Wow’ and this is where our fans from around the world can sing with us at our concerts. I hope people will listen to our album and support us at our shows." Yuimetal stated in an interview with Metal Hammer that "Road of Resistance" is her favorite song from Metal Resistance, explaining that it "has been performed at so many concerts, so a lot of memories are jam-packed. The lyrics are positive, the sound is so cool, and [the] dance is so powerful."

    Saitama Super Arena:-
"Saitama Super Arena (さいたまスーパーアリーナ, Saitama Sūpā Arīna) is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Chūō-ku, Saitama, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It opened preliminarily on May 5, 2000, and then officially opened on September 1 of the same year. Its spectator capacity is 36,500 at maximum settings,[3] making it the second-largest indoor arena in the world. The main arena capacity is between 19,000 and 22,500".
    •Owner: Saitama Arena Corp.
    •Capacity: 36,500 (stadium setting) 18,000 (arena setting).
The arena was designed by Dan Meis, who at the time was working for architecture firm Ellerbe Becket, together with Nikken Sekkei. Meis's design was selected as a result of an international design competition. The arena features a gigantic movable section of seating which can reduce capacity for smaller events and create a more intimate setting.
It is a favorite venue for puroresu (Japanese professional wrestling) and mixed martial arts (MMA). It has also hosted other sports events such as boxing, basketball, volleyball, tennis, ice hockey, and gymnastics. It is the only Japanese arena equipped especially for American football.
It formerly housed the John Lennon Museum, which displayed John Lennon memorabilia and closed in 2010.

I think you've actually listened to most of the songs you probably wont enjoy as much. I think (and I may be wrong of course) the other ones being BxMxC, Oh Majinai! and ... uh... maybe Iine (thats 2 letter i's, not and 'L' and an 'i'), and maybe Papaya. I think the rest you'll have varying degrees of enjoyment over.

A good example of Su keeping to her own beat despite the music around her is Rondo of Nightmare, one of four of her solo songs. It has strange time signatures, and numerous changes, and one of Babymetal's guitarist said that she had to be a prodigy to sing over that. It's also their darkest song, in composition and lyrically. So I definitely recommend checking out Rondo of Nightmare with Mischief of Metal Gods Intro, from Budokan 2014.

Babymetal was formed with a unique style, it takes hella big balls to do something different and those young girls did it better than anyone else could. I think their performances and professionalism demanded respect, and won them a rabid fanbase. They’ve gone on to demonstrate staying power and progression, the “gimmick” label just can’t apply to this group.

BABYMETAL is often upbeat and uplifting in their music and lyricism. It has darker songs but there's almost always a positive spin on it. For a metalhead like me it does feel refreshing.

Good, now you are on the right track. I would say focus a bit more on the music though. Watching you it seems like you're perhaps a bit jaded and you feel you know what to expect, but this band is going to through you through a loop time and time again. pause is your friend to sort of deconstruct what you just witnessed when first viewing it in order to grasp it (or just do as the rest of us did, and watch it like 30 times, seeing some new element each time. lol.but if you're rating the songs at the end, its best to occasionally stop and review during songs after events happen simply to comprehend and then move forward. It will also help not have your videos get blocked by pausing now and then (Amuse blocks like mad dude...they are quick to KO many video reactions, especially full runthroughs without many pausing).
Check out Arkadia now...RoR will always be my favorite, but this one is coming in a close second which is surprising since I figured their 3rd album was made of suck..well, cd1 was, but cd2 is bangers straight through. Arkadia being the crown jewel imo

Judas Priest was my favorite band for 20 years, I have seen them live 7 times and the bands I was in did a plethora of JP covers at my insistence.
I have come to suspect that anyone who suggests GIMME CHOCOLATE for a first reaction really doesn't want you to appreciate how great this group actually is, or that they simply don't understand coming in from the Metal side of the fan spectrum.
I never suggest the Rob Halford BABYMETAL video to anyone because its not what BABYMETAL or Rob Halford do best, but make no mistake, Rob Halford LOVES these girls and even brings them flowers before shows when he gets the chance...

First time I heard this I thought damn this sounds like Dragonforce, then a little google, it is. Homie thinks it's not metal because it's japanese girls. Imagine American girls. So dumb. Not metal. I'm probably older than this dude and can recognize solid metal.

This song is in the power metal genre (patterned after European power metal). Power metal is a blend of technical speed metal or thrash, with melodic instrumentation, and sometimes poppy vocals. The layering of slower melodic vocal lines over very frenetic instruments is a very common element in power metal. You'll hear that a lot with bands like Helloween, Dragonforce (whose guitarists co-wrote this song), Hammerfall, Edguy/Avantasia, Blind Guardian, Angra and a lot of other power metal bands. Granted, Babymetal's vocals are a bit MORE poppy than typical power metal vocals, but it's still a pretty common element. Also that happy and uplifting feel is something that is common to European power metal, which sets it apart from American power metal, which tends to be darker and less melodic. Of course, not all of Babymetal's music fits in the power metal genre, mainly just "Road of Resistance," "Amore," and "Arkadia." They play just about every genre of metal that you can name (a couple songs even venture into Death metal territory).

Sorry friend, I don't buy it. The expression on your face reminds me of the security guys... they tolerate it. That's fine for them, but it's a cringe fest when you act to us like you have a great time, the way you do. "A little singalong is always nice", while they're singing with 20.000 fans in a stadium. Maybe you need the money, just like those security boys. Stay with what you're used to. Better for us and better for you.
