    Just so you are all aware, the 2023 CX-60 has already had a major upgrade to these following areas.
    1. Infotainment Firmware upgrade.
    2. Shockabsorbers, Springs and Swaybar updated.
    3. Steering has been software updated.
    4. BRAKES changed.
    5. Many other changes for 2023.

    We’re a couple, early fifties from Germany. Had BMWs before (X5 and X3). Love my CX5. Very mature, comfortable and reliable. Do not miss the technical gimmicks of my previous cars, neither the frequent software updates. Don’t think that the price differential to the CX60 is justified and don’t like its interior. Will drive my CX5 definitely for a very long time with a smile on my lips before deciding what to buy next.

      There's a good chance that the CX60 WILL REPLACE the Cx5. This will likely be announced next year when the CX70 is released in America. It'll likely be priced from approximately 30k with the top spec model at near 50k.

    Cx-60 is a big upgrade to the cx-5, they're different leagues. I drove them back to back, here the presenter did not test the sport mode. Milage is shit if you drive it as it's meant, but it's so fun to drive for a suv, so much power, linear acceleration all the way up to 200, and good grip, very planted to the road. It's not a suv built for confort, it's quite sporty. By comparison the cx-5 is mild.

    Reviewers in Italy actually praised CX-60 steering, so your remarks came unexpected to me. I drive a 2023 CX-5 and I don’t find it particularly sporty, so it also seems strange to me that the CX-60 is worse in this regard.

    As a CX-5 owner I was eager to test the CX-60 PHEV. Unfortunately I had to stop my personal test after comparing the trunk with the one of the CX-5.

    With an avg sticker price of 32k-35k USD in the Ukrainian market, Mazda CX-5 is one of the most popular cars in the segment, due to a nice balance of features for the price. (That is for the 2.0 version, though).

    I'm a 33 year old guy living in Sweden with my family. I've ordered the cx-60 because we need a big car with great towing capacity and 4-wheel drive. The thing that convinced me on cx-60 was the premium feel it has and the awsome engine (love the sound of it). In contrarion to your opinion about the steering I must say I rather like that it's a little slower and not as nimble. Imo it actually fits the car. :)

      I agree with you that slower steering wheel has it's charms, especially when driving a bigger SUV. I dove the Mazda MX5 and although it is a great sports car and very fun to drive the steering is so nervous you constantly need to readjust the steering wheel to drive in a straight line. Can get tiring on a longer open road journey

    I don't understand why did they went with such short headlights on CX60. CX5 front looks soooo much nicer.

I have actually owned 4 with 3 of them still in the family. I have a 2019 Signature with the turbo and love it. I would be strongly interested in the CX-70 when it is finally available in the U.S. However, it may have some features that I would not want that could make me keep my CX-5. I especially, would not want a stop/start feature, or cylinder deactivation at highways speeds. These features are not good for longevity and just make the car more complex than it has to be. I would really like the extra room, but I could buy a gently used CX-9 for that.

    • @wilburfinnigan2142

      True too much of that technology makes for nothing but more problems. The reason I bought the CX5 was its basic non turbo engine did not have the engine stop or the deactivation. just more crap to go wrong. My CX5 has all the performance I need is comfortable and RELIABLE and NO CVT trans a REAL 6 speed auto more than adequet and smooth performing !!! Great little car !! ZOOOOM ZOOOOOM !!!!!!

      I had a 2022 CX-9 Turbo as a rental for about 2 and a half weeks. The car is massive but it drives just like a CX-5 AWD Turbo. The only downside to the CX-9 is the lack of trunk space.

    • @joseramongutierrez8018
      @joseramongutierrez8018 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jcostanza CX-9's trunk space is a bit limited compared to similarly sized SUVs, but it's driving dynamics are unbeatable. I don't mind sacrificing slightly smaller cargo space for that odd day of the year that I would be inconvenienced, but I'm enjoying driving it with a big smile every single day.
      I still have a 2009 CX-9 GT that I will never give away; nimble, planted, fun to drive, reliable, easy to maintain, great sound system, and the family with the dog loves it!

    • @jcostanza
      @jcostanza ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@joseramongutierrez8018 Yes sir. The CX-9 drives better than any large SUV i have ever driven and handles wet roads like a champ. The newer turbo models have tons of torque below 3,000 rpm which is good for driving up hills or canyons. I was able get up to 24 mpg doing mixed driving.

      Exactly. He also forgot to mention that CX-60 can be used as a regular HYBRID if battery is depleted or manually restricted to a certain percentage. So this additional weight (of the battery) would still be not that relevant as he stressed. While the review is good, there are still areas where the quality can be improved (by way of using at least the wisdom of "read the fcukin manual").

    I have a 2016 CX-5. I upgraded tires. It runs like new or better than new. I found little reason to upgrade to the newest CX-5 or CX-60/70/90. It has more cabin noise than new version of CX-5. But it is quieter than a Tesla Model 3 on express way.

    • @robertdevoy3119
      @robertdevoy3119 ปีที่แล้ว

      Better tires make a vast improvement. I replaced the cheap Toyo tires on 2019 Signature with Michelin Pilot All Season 4 and the difference is dramatic in every way. Not only are they rated to last twice as long, but they are quieter, smoother riding, and handle like a dream. I increased the size to 245/50/-19 which probably helps some. The speedo reads only about 2% different according to a sizing chart that I used.

      There is definitely a difference. The 2020 mazda cx5 I had was far, far more noisy than the 2022 I also had 😆 Mazda is not good when it comes to cabin noise imo. Outside of nice interior, and reliability, mazda is lacking in alot.

    Test drove the CX60 for 24hrs. The drive train still needs considerable development to get it integrated properly. Many shunts, pulses and vibrations, one was jarring enough that my partner looked at me and asked “what’s gone wrong?”.
    Interior is good quality though on the Takumi spec the interior silver bits are shiny chrome, which to my eyes comes across a bit cheap and garish. Much better if they were with a more subtle brushed finish.
    I placed an order for a hybrid Takumi spec but cancelled the order after the test drive - i was disappointed.

Sounds silly maybe, but why on earth is the top speed on these SUV/CUV's so much higher than the vehicle is even capable of, let alone how fast we would drive it? I'm getting a bit older so I'd prefer more distance between each marker.

    My wife had a 2017 white CX5 and due to a driver paying more attention to his new iPhone, we now have a 2023 red CX5 premium plus all-wheel drive. We did look at the CX50 but my wife is more of an urban driver than someone who would adventure down a dirt road. The old car protected my family very well from a large vehicle driving fifty miles an hour that T-boned the old CX5 with two additional passengers. I am interested in the possibility of purchasing a CX70 for myself when they come out. Although the old CX5 was comfortable enough when driving across the country it was a bit smaller than I would like and I would appreciate a pangrammatic roof. I would never buy a plug-in model so will only consider the straight six engine with the battery boost. I hope the steering will be better in the straight six-cylinder CX70 when it comes out. I would appreciate a review that put the vehicle on a lift so I can see how the suspension is set up. After seeing the size of the solid rear axle on the CX50 that would be a necessary review by me before purchasing a CX70.

    Great comparison! And since you asked…. I’m a male Gen X-er in Los Angeles who owns a ’22 CX 5 AWD Turbo. I’m probably more of a Euro sedan/coupe guy at heart, but family circumstances have lead me to a compact SUV (common story). The Mazda had the Germanic feel that I desired with the Japanese reliability and low upkeep that I needed. And don’t hate me, but I appreciate genuine leather-along with real exhaust tips.
    There’s not much wrong with the CX 5 that wouldn’t be fixed by a normally aspirated 6-cylinder and a slightly more compliant suspension. The upcoming U.S. CX 70 looks like something I could trade-up to later in the decade-a sort of “last hurrah” before having to buy electric. But your assessment of the PHEV CX 60 has me a little concerned. Hopefully someone at Mazda is watching these reviews and has their to-do list made out…to be completed by model year 2029!

I hope it preconditions the engine somehow so it doesn't get damaged when you floor it and the ice turns on

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      heating should work but wont be that effective afaik, not entirely sure if it works at all though. Seat heating will work for sure. But interesting question, i ll try to resolve that when we drive the CX-60 Diesel soon and ask the engineers!
      About preconditioning of the engine: No PHEV has that. They build PHEV motors a little tougher so it withstand the cold start better; however it is never good to rev an engine at startup, so this will always remain a problem.

    • @lovre93
      @lovre93 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@autogefuehl it seems really weird to me that more cars don't have an additional heater for heating up the cabin practically instantly. Small renault clio starts heating up the cabin the second you get in because it has some additional heater that turns on right away before the engine itself is heated up. It probably draws a lot of power but anyway people would like to have an option atleast. A lot of cars if you start your car and drive through the city, they won't even heat up because there is little strain on the engine and idling practically doesn't do anything. As a 71 YO, my wife and I are retired in the USA (NY Suburbia). Thax for your throrough review & your honesty, pointing out Pros and Cons. The CX-60 (CX-70 in the US) is winking at me. I have a 22 Acura MDX ,leased August 2021 for 36 months. I like some extra room, but really don't need that 3rd Row (I remain curious as to How Many peopl;e actually use that 3rd Row?), so in that regard, the CX-70 seems to be Just Right. I am disappointed to see that you describe the steering as Vague and also too Bumpy a ride?? I would be wrestling with the aspect of a PHEV. I need to know more about that: How do you hook up at home?; how long does the Battery last while driving?; does it utilize Braking Regeneration for recharging while driving? On paper, for our usage, an EV is probably best suited for our needs. However, after seeing the eruption of Fires in EVs after Ian hit Florida, gives me major concerns. Don't get thiose lithium batteries wet, especially with salt water!! EVs were erupring into fires in people's houses after they drove during the Hurricane. The Fire Chief in Tampa said they had at least 25 fires that burnt the houses to ground. It takes Hours of pouring water on the batteries to put the fires out! They mostly just let them burn out!. To me, producing the CX-70 with a Toyota or Honda style Gas/ Electric Hybrid would be a No-Brainer.

    320 ft/lb torque for a compact SUV if the pull is only OK , what SUV in it's class has better acceleration ....which one ....and bose does do noise cancelation in the CX-5 ....what else are you wrong about .

    I was a mechatronic engineer working in the defense industry (now an IP Lawyer), many engineer I have spoken to praise the Mazda Skyactiv engine. Mazda 3, CX-30 and CX-5 are what I believe the best value petrol car on the market. Although I could easily afford a lamborghini, but I honestly can't imagine any car I would rather be in other than a Mazda... I brought a house outright with the extra cash, much happier result.

    I have a CX-5 2.5L AWD which I got in September 2022. The steering is much heavier in weight than before and I find it is too heavy. Mazda UK say that they can not do anything to make the steering lighter. Given that it is electric steering I would thought that it could have been re programmed to make it lighter.
    I really miss the soft ride of cars like the Renault 16 and 504 Peugeot of the past.

      Has the temperature dropped by you a lot because of winter? Colder temperatures cause tire pressures to drop which could make turning the steering wheel a bit harder.
      I would check all the tire pressures.

      When I ordered the car, the Cx-5 that I test drove was about 3 years old as no new cars were available to drive. On getting my car in September it was immediately obvious that the steering was heavier. I haves since then driven ann older model and spoken to a sales man who confirmed that the steering weight was made heavier by Mazda.
      I have checked the tyre ( US spelling, tire ), pressures and they are at the recommend pressure.
      Unfortunately, I may have to sell the car as I have an arthritic wrist and the steering weight makes it painful..

      @@flatheadV8 Try upping the tyre pressures to 40 psi all round and see if that makes a difference before you sell.

    For me, on my 2023 Mazda CX5 Carbon Black Edition, I can't stand the collision avoidance as several times the car locked the brakes thinking a collision was immediate when i was going around a car turning right - horrible system so i disable this as soon as I get into the car. I HATE how i use manual tuning on the radio (cause so easy to spin the dial to switch around the channels) and it won't keep the setting, if i switch to something else, i have to crawl back into the menu to setup manual tuning feature - it doesn't save settings (like disabling collision avoidance or manual setup). I also hate when i am making a left turn in a left turn double lane with my blinker on, it makes all types of noises and beeps and steering jerks thinking you are going to crash when you are not. This automatic car warning systems are not great and wish i could disable all of it (and it would save my settings where i only have to do it once).

    even 5.5l per 100km is equivalent to 42.77mpg which is way better than my cx-5. which gets like 25mpg at best if im mostly highway, less for city i expect the opposite here for the cx-60. impressive.

    when will the CX5 be redesigned? does it make sense to buy an almost-6-years old design?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They just did a facelift, so not quickly. Well the thing is, "older" cars are also more evolved and have less failures than all-new vehicles which are very new to the market. So I wouldnt say that it is bad to buy an older vehicle. However one disadvantage is that indeed when new models of the same car come out, the older ones usually drop in price. But I dont see a new CX5 coming soon since they are bringing out CX60 here, CX70 for US, CX80 for EU and CX90 for US and they also just released CX50 for US.

    Can Thomas Review the CX60 PHEV. There are 2 completely contradictory reviews in "sporty suspension that is jittery but if you drive it as a luxury SUV it is "fine"? how can it be both?? from AJ and the CX60 tour through the mountains is .. well another car.. Please try and have some consistency. People (ME) trust your reviews and I have the CX60 or the X-Trail on my final 2 list...

    Wish the US was getting the 60, instead of the bloated 70 and 90. I'd also like the next gen CX-30 and 3 to look more like a shrunken down version of the 60, instead of their tired, current low-slung designs. I like more upright oriented hatches and SUVs/CUVs.

    I've always said real exhaust tips or no buy.. my cx-30 turbo has large tips than the non turbo.. so they must think something of it.. hopefully the 70 and 90 will have at least a dealer option.. I can't stand bumper holes.. and Ford's fake tips that point down are just plain stupid
