They need to reduce the price a couple of grand to allow it to compete with the CX-90. My problem with the Sante Fe is, that to me, it looks like a toy, or maybe a cargo vehicle. They ‘need’ to raise the taillights on the Sante Fe.

  • @Rodghost1

I chose the CX70 specifically because it DOESN'T have a third row. I simply don't need or want a 3 row SUV. I don't care if it costs the same as CX90. I like the exterior styling better and it's fits my needs better. I wonder if the engine in the car you tested had an issue. For me, the engine is sublimely smooth. I'm not aware of shifts, even when first started. It's powerful, smooth and to me, sounds great. I do agree the center console is larger than it needs to be as my right leg, rests against it, but it's not uncomfortable. And every reviewer makes the same claim about the cup holders in the cargo area as being the same as a CX90. They aren't the same. They aren't cup holders at all. What one might use them for, I don't know, but please be aware, they are different then the cup holders in the 90.

      @Rockytop8118 หลายเดือนก่อน

The hang up is that this should merely be a trim option of the 90. You don't need a third row, great. They change the cupholders to cubby holders to fit drinks and other things I guess. These are nominal changes like getting a different pair of sunglasses, but not an entirely different in terms of use. It works for some people, but justifying this is a different car because it has a different row and some lipstick/makeup is hilarious. A CX-70 should have been a slightly more affordable two row model that differentiates itself in terms of styling enough to be a different car. Like a less bulby rear design and something a bit more integrated and sporty. Perhaps Mazda just bought themselves a year or two to make a decision.

    • @Rodghost1

@@Rockytop8118 Go work for Mazda and tell them what they should do. My dealer can't keep them on the dealer lot, so I guess, others aren't as bothered by the fact a CX70 is much like the CX90, but different enough. Who cares what they called it? And why it elicits such negativity from people who likely don't own either is frankly amusing.

@@Rodghost1 it's a fine car and it might sell decently and targets a much smaller audience than what most thought. It's not a new model and should have been reserved for a bigger cx-5/50 with a slightly less price tag.

You can’t say it will appeal to a smaller audience at all unless you speak for all potential buyers, which surely you don’t because you can’t.

I chose the CX-70 over the Cx-90 as I didn't need or want a 3rd row and preferred the bench seat in 2nd row to Captain's chairs. (5 adults in the main cabin vs. a cramped 3rd row seating was a really important feature for me.) Also, preferred the larger cargo to a CX-5/Cx-50 and noticed that with the 3rd row stowed in the Cx-90 cargo space wasn't completely flat. (Last car was the CX-5 and if the PHEV had been available may have stayed with that).

I have the CX70 and I love it. You guys did a terrible review! Mazda is not offering the CX70 as A CX90. They are giving you a spacious 5-passenger vehicle with many safety features. And to talk about Kia and Hyundai as a comparison is almost laughable, they do not compete with the CX70 styling. The ride is not floaty nor is it harsh by any means. It's not a sports car but is very confident on twisty roads.

This is, by far, the most negative review of the CX-70 that I have seen and I watch as many of these TH-cam video reviews as I can. I traded my 2023 CX-9 for the CX-70 Turbo Premium S and I absolutely love it. Comparing this to the Santa Fe is about as strange a comparison as I could imagine. I drove a lot of cars before I bought my CX-9 and the same with the CX-70. In my opinion - for the money - nothing comes close to the styling, premium interior materials, fit and finish, driving dynamics, etc. And, as an aside, I'm getting 30 mpg on the highway even while driving at 70-80 mph. Like I said, I love this car.

sorry you took it that way. These videos are based on the relative performance for the segment...of which the Santa Fe is most certainly in...and if you pay close attenton you'll note that a lot of the "cons" are simply "cons" because the CX90 does the same thing, but with a third row AND for less money. Everything in context

as many have noted, you can’t get the CX-90 without the second row captains chairs making it a four seater with the third row folded, also like the blacked out look better, and most of all the rear drive based AWD system feels much more sporty/ premium than the Sante Fe’s driveline. Finally, I like the hidden/ safe storage below the back deck. Out of site of thieving eyes. Great review btw.

It's different for the segment and sets its self apart from the crowd. The pricepoint is not bad at all even fully equipped. I think Mazda did a nice job but keep in mind that it not for all consumers but for those that want something different and exciting in a family vehicle.. Some people don't need a third row. CX-70 is a more sporty model than the CX-90. The trim is body color painted in the CX-70 versus the CX-90 and different body trim and wheels. I believe the suspension is different config on the CX-70 and it has some sexy colors not available in the CX-90. I don't need a 3rd row and I prefer the overall look of the CX-70 to the CX-90 so that is what I'd buy. I don't think the Hyundai even compares to this from a interior finish, features, sportiness and quality perspective. Of course, the Santa Fe has a 4 cylinder engine which lack refinement and performance of the CX-70's 3.3litre inline 6 cylinder which is so smooth. Of course it will be cheaper!

      @vinnie4400 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It will be best in class after all the bugs are sorted out...which has mostly already been done with all the 2024 CX-90 updates. Customer demand - partly due to federal tax breaks & partly due to MANY customers rarely needing more range than the 26 miles provided in the PHEV models - has resulted in a complete pricing restructure for both the CX-90 and the CX-70 and it FAVORS the I-6 versions. As a result, the CX-70 Premium is spec'd out like the original CX-90 Premium Plus was when it was first released - priced as the "top model" costing $60k +.
Adding a few features to the PHEV Premium Plus versions basically reversed the pecking order, along with much higher demand, resulting in the PHEV being the top model...and dropping the Turbo S Premium down to around $55k. Of course the PHEV is getting the $7500 federal rebate on top of local incentives. Sadly, earliest CX-90 customers did not always get the PHEV rebates...or they paid over $60k for the Turbo S PP model.
I am already seeing low mileage CX-90 Turbo S PP models selling for $49k as a CPO. Finding a later model production run with a better than new CPO warranty will likely force me to part with my CX-5 Signature sooner than later once there is a decent selection of the model you purchased...CX-70 Turbo S Premium...on the lots as low mileage CPO. You mention getting the Polymetal Gray with the red interior - did you consider other color combos? Like black exterior with red interior? Or the melting copper? TIA.

@@vinnie4400 I was thinking maybe the copper but they didn't have any they were 3 weeks out after I looked at all of them inside didn't like the black interior the dash and the door covers look to plain look at the tan interior but the Swede on the dash did not no how that is going to hold up over time plus 2500 extra not enough value for the difference the red interior is sharp looking so I definitely wanted red interior on the exterior I don't like white or black cars like soul red but it clashed with red interior zircon sand is ok but when you see a poly Grey with red interior that car stands out. Also I think the roof rails distract from the sportiness of the car they had one there but I waited for 2 weeks to get mine without the roof racks. As for the transmission shifts the first weeks had a few goofy shifts from 1st to 2nd but now that has seamed to smooth out everything is fine love this car don't miss my 2016 cx9 at all this car is so much nicer they are about the same size cx70 is a little bit higher only 2 thing I don't like the sunroof must have the sun shade open half way to crack the sun roof. 2nd the tachometer is no longer in the head up display have to look down at the dash instead.

@@JaketheSnake-lz1pq Thanks for taking the time to explain all that...not sure I get the price worries when the 2023 CX-9 Signature models sticker price was $51k. The CX-90 & 70 P Turbo S is a massive upgrade for between $4 - $7k over the CX-9, which I also liked but did not want the 3rd row. I am surprised that there will be a 2025 CX-5 when their actually is the CX-60 sold by Mazda everywhere but N.A. market. It's bigger than the CX-50 & CX-5, smaller than the CX-70, & uses the same RWD architecture & engine options. I still think that vehicle, perhaps after a refresh, will eventually complete the Mazda CX family of SUVs.
The 2025 CX-50 will use the same powertrain in the current RAV Hybrid, albeit with slightly worse mileage. Mazda is doing their own Hybrid design for later 2025 CX-5 models. Using their 2.0L skyactiv engine tuned like the departed CX-3 2.0L, combined with 2 modest electric motors providing power to the rear wheels, this HEV is rumored to put out around 200 hp while managing 50 mpg. If that actually pans out during the 2025 MY they will be sold out months in advance.

Perhaps the CX-5 lives on w/o a true redesign but allowing Mazda to give their own HEV design a shot without hurting their longer term model plans. Like your reviews and like that you bring up your opinions on both the good and bad. Agree with.... the CX90 makes more sense.... the little foam storage cubby where the 3rd row was will never be used (I wouldn't)....they could have done a better job maximizing the interior space and utility of what is already a narrower and smaller back end than most. Mazda could have done away with the wasted 3rd row cup holder plastic and made that area a bit wider and more useful.
I wish the CX90 though had a couple features that the CX70 has. Such as a nice second row bench seat on the upper trims instead of Captains chairs, so when the 3rd row is folded you are not stuck with just a large 4 seater vehicle. Why choose a CX70 ? Only a couple things I can think of. You want the second row bench you can't get on the CX90 in the nicer trims, and you like the design of the Blacked out trim features and Faux front intake vents better than the 90. You want the nice looking Red Leather.
Personally I'd like to have the 90 offered with the same 2nd row bench seat as the 70. I'd keep the 3rd row folded 95% of the time, but it would be their for the rare occasional use. Having the 2nd row bench and folded 3rd row also allows you to have a completely folded flat area in the rear that you can't do with Captains chairs. I'd also like to see the Red Interior and CX70 external trim as options on the CX90

I'm like many others here and will absolutely not buy a 3rd row vehicle so that and the dumpy rear killed the 90 for me. Now I can really see its just a dumpy butt 90 with a few different features. CX90 starts at ‘select’ and CX70 starts at ‘preferred.’ It’s their own branding that makes it confusing. 3rd row should just be an option in one vehicle. Personally, the flagship styling of the 90 is less than the sport of CX70. None of this would be an issue if the CX60 was onboarded

As a single guy who is looking at the turbo trims of the CX-5, I think this would be the next step up I would make in the Mazda lineup because I don't need a 3-row midsize or full-size crossover or SUV yet. I love the stealthier exterior this has with the Polymetal Gray exterior & the red or tan Nappa leather interior between the different trims of the CX-70. I like the performance, space, tech, & luxury features this gives you as the next step up in the lineup from the CX-5 & CX-50. I don't like the excessive black plastic cladding on the CX-50, so if I were to get one, I'd want to get the black plastic pieces painted to match the body color. This is a larger CX-5 on RWD-based AWD platform with a bigger engine that has more HP, torque, & better efficiency . It's a better price than a comparable midsize 2-row crossover/ SUV would be from a traditional luxury brand

Currently driving a 2019 Kluger/ Highlander where I removed the 3rd row to do what Mazda is doing as standard.

On the cx70 what engines require premium gas?

None. I have the turbo s premium and can use reg. It does recommend premium and unlocks the power output.

Same as cx90 without a 3rd row. Absurd. They missed a good segment. Talk about lazy and not enough money to invest

Bench seat! I don’t like the captain chairs in these SUV’s. Can you option the bench seat in the 90?

The CX-70 is better equipped in the lower-mid trims than the CX-90.

Good review. Out of several reviews you mentioned Apple Car Play is wireless and touchscreen! No cooked seats in second row. Drives well! All good for me! Buying a car is getting where or near where you want to be. Like getting a bus to your destination! 😂

Another usual Mazda rant from jealous " Honda " boys 😂
All the neat picks presented here are laughable and have minimal backing in reality , alnost if quarter truth is being bend into full truth = propaganda 😉
CX70 and 90 both offer way more ahead of their 38 - 57K MSRP and when dealers offer additional 4000usd off, it is well into Cheesy and plasticy main stream prices like Pilots Highlnaders SantaFu of the market and than CX70/90 are heck of amazing bargain .
On the other hand thanks to such rant we will get even better deal on our CX70s...😉

Future models the CX-10 & CX-20 should be the size of CX-3 than the CX-3 & Mazda 2 should get discontinued .

Mazda has done a similar thing here that they did with the Cx-9/cx-7 a few generations ago.
The cx-7 was basically a cx-9 with the 4 cyl turbo engine option. 🤯
I never understood their decision to do that back in the day.
Here the changes are even severely LESS significant than even an engine swap. Apparently they learned to just make engine options into "packages". But now they want to differentiate models based on how many rows of seats they have???
I knew Mazda was taking a turn for the worse when they jettisoned the Zoom Zoom mantra, but this is just EMBARRASSING.
So much for the Japanese company not losing face. But hopefully they'll get a handle on this major misfire and correct it instead of committing Hari Kari .
Maybe they could use the excuse that this was supposed to be a significantly different vehicle from the cx90, but there is a COVID parts shortage. 😂😂

Why is this car so huge? Is there any other 5 seater that is 200 inches long? Cut rate Q8 I guess? But even that is only 196 inches.. Does Mazda not really have the money to take 10 inches off it? Sad.
