I was comparing the same two models a few months ago and ended up buying the CX-5 akrea G35 also in this polymetal grey color, absolutely loving it, glad I made the right choice 😄
This is a very good comparison of two excellent cars! Some additional thoughts: 1) The CX-60 G40e Evolve is currently $56.99k driveaway. With the $4k luxury pack (including real leather and full Vision Package with touchscreen), it's $61k. There are no other cars at this price point with a 6 cylinder engine. 2) The CX5 G35 Akera is currently $55.648k driveaway. If you forego the turbo power, it's only $53k. A bargain... 3) You said the CX-60 PHEV is close to $90k. Mazda's online configurator has it as $70k driveaway. 4) The CX-60 rear-seat space is handy if you need rear-racing child seats. The CX-5 requires that the front seat be moved forward. Also, The CX-5 payload capacity is 445kg and the CX-60 is 579kg.
These are limited time promotional offers, but you make a good point. If you see discounts like this, it's worth doing the math to see if they will save you money.
Agree @RodneyW We've become the proud parents of a Fiery Soul Crystal Red CX-60 Evolve Luxury Vision PHEV that we've named 'Kestrel' ( if you know, you know! ) - indeed we picked it up for around ~$ 71 K, It's our 1st Mazda, & we are loving it ! The only 'niggle' I have is that Apple Car play doesn't have the option of 'Touchscreen in Motion' nor even ' Touchscreen when Parked' option for that matter :( . Even though I paid around 8K for the 2 x upgrade packages ( Vision & Luxury )..... That.., was an 'unwelcome; surprise'😵 Apparently its only available on the GT & Azami.... a frustrating ' small point'
@@Laurie473 Well done! My Mazda 3 (2022) doesn't have any option for touchscreen at all, so I've become adept at 1) using the shortcut buttons to get to maps or music, and 2) instructing Siri to do anything else I want. I rarely use the Commander dial in CarPlay. One tip: when in CarPlay, a long press on the Home button will take you back to the Mazda infotainment. On a long trip, I typically open up the fuel consumption screen, then switch back to Apple Maps / Waze for navigation. I can then flick between maps and fuel consumption with a single button press in each direction. A good friend owns a CX-60 GT (G40). It's a very enjoyable car, especially on the open road.
I Have a 2024 mazda cx5 spgt turbo and love every part of it. It has the power i need and a very roomy car. i have been a MAZDA Buyer for many years and wont look at any other model car. Mazda all the way 😊😍✊💪
@@carsales I Have Had 9 mazdas since 2007 never had issues with any of them bought a hyundai veloster brand new in 2016 was a total lemon never hyundai again. mazda kicks butt 😎👌💯💪
My wife is looking to trade her 2017 CX5 on either a new CX5 or CX60, my daughter is looking to replace her CX3 in on a CX30, but I will keep my 2012 manual 6 Luxury Sports hatch a while longer as it seems Mazda has dropped the 6, all have been incredibly reliable and satisfying cars to own.
The auto in the CX-60/-70/-80/-90 is not a single-clutch automatic in the traditional sense (Alfa Selespeed for example). It’s the same setup as AMG’s Speedshift MCT. The gearbox itself is the same inside as a torque converter auto (planetary gear sets), but in place of a torque converter it has a multi-plate wet-clutch. The clutch is only used when stationary, during take-off and very low speed manoeuvring, at all other times it is fully engaged.
Oh.... for a minute there, I thought they forgot to build some features into my CX-60's rear Center fold-down Cup tray with the out-board heated seats & the 'fold up' for table. Then I realised you did the review on rear cabins one after the other & that was the Top Spec CX-5 rear.... bit 'jealous' they didn't carry that thru the the ' Premium/Lux market CX-60 as standard... I even added the Lux Pack , but that still wasn't enough o earn this in the rear appointments🥺
For me, it's the CX5 i don't like the 48-volt mild hybrid or the clutch in the transmission in the CX 60. If it had no mild hybrid and a torque converter auto, it would be a winner. 😊
this is my line of thinking also. I love the CX60 in the looks department, but the 48v MHEV portion of the car has me skeptical. Plus, I also don't like the driver monitoring on any vehicle. Completely unnecessary IMHO and I'd hate to see how intrusive it ends up being in the long run.
Buy a CX-60 if you want an aggressive lane assist that tries to kill you, rattling boot, high wind noise at 70km/h, rattling rear seats, rattling glove boxes, speed sign recognition that doesn't work, driver recognition system that very rarely works, a really intrusive driving experience with bells and whistles going off for any manoeuvre which totally detracts from the driving experience, the harshest suspension I've ever felt on a car, a faulty phone charger which charges/disconnects every few minutes whilst driving, strange noises when driving in rain that sounds like water is leaking into the car just behind the drivers and passengers heads, a lumpy gearbox at low revs causing jerky low speed movements and no fix from Mazda. This is just my petrol car which is 1 year old and had about 4 recalls so far. There are plenty of other faults that Mazda CX-60 drivers are experiencing, steer clear for a few years until Mazda fix these issues.
Here in Finland, the inline 6 gasoline CX-60 is not available. I drove a 2024 CX-60 plug in. The suspension is too bouncy. The transition from the gasoline engine and full electric is definitely not smooth, as the transmission is jerky. It’s a beautiful SUV, but OMG, the transmission, suspension, and first generation hybrid system need to be massively refined.
Good to know...i was choosing here in Estonia between 10K driven CX-60 PHEV or new CX-5 2.5 with all the extras for 5k less. I took CX-5, because it is a sure thing.
We have a cx9 azami. It’s a big car and was hoping to down size a little. I found the cx5 abit squashy in the back. I’m 6’3. As for the cx60, I’ll pass
Unfortunately we still dont have the 6 zylinder petrol engine CX-60 in Europe just the phev and the diesel versions. And the CX-5 doesnt have a turbo, has just 194 PS...😢
I'm really happy with this price point comparison, we are looking to replace my wife's 2017 CX-5 with either of these 2 cars reviewed trim levels, had been leaning towards the CX-5 again but a CX-60 with its issues ironed out and an IL6 makes a compelling argument...
@@John451vfr I own a CX-60 PHEV mainly the because the tax code is making the Inline 6 50% more expensive. As it happens with completely new platforms there where some issues although they Neve stranded me. After 2 recalls fixing dumpers, as pump from the hybrid system and a software update on the transmission at the ver beginning I am very happy with the car at 40K travelled. Of course if you want to safe on gas only a home charger will do the magic. Still for long trips a inline 6 is unbeatable.
Mazda customers loyal? Was right up until they stopped the diesel CX5 as I was going to replace my 2020 Akera CX5 diesel with another one, now not so sure?
Subaru have this driver monitoring feature in their cars and its incredibly intrusive if you happen to look at anything other than whats directly in front you. If Mazda's are the same format, its a no from me. If they had a function permanently disable this feature rather than having to navigate a menu to turn it off ever time you get back in the car, I think it would sway more people over.
Never forget Mazda Tribute V6 the worst gas-guzzling sport utility vehicle I've ever seen with most obsolete column auto transmission and rear drum brakes with complex mechanics cost an eye-watering repair bills and let's not forget a dumb old 2.3 4 cylinder smelt like regular and growled like a Datsun Stanza.
If they brought back that badge with the BT50 engine and driveline, I would certainly consider checking one out. But alas, no off road SUV in that segment.
Mazda customers loyal?... Hmm I am clearly not one of them I rather pay a little more and get NX 350h rather than cx 60.. It seems sales figure on my side Mazda sale almost 10X cx5 than CX60. And even NX outsell them.

Good point, but for many potential owners it will be a moot point. The fact is the gearbox needs finessing and more fine-tuning.
The cx5 is just a very difficult car to beat
Agreed. Still a very competent and compelling product.

Probably the next update of CX-60 is worth waiting to fully iron out its suspension/transmission issues reported
Yep, fair call. The foundations are there for a genuinely premium-feeling six-cylinder cruiser. Just needs a few crucial tweaks.
The cx-60 needs further refinement. I love the 6 cyl diesel option, but the rest of the car needs to match the potential of the new engine.
Single owner the CX5 fits perfectly but for that roar six cylinder I think I'd go that extra room, with the vision pack.
wish they’ve installed sway bar in the cx60
did you drive in Sanctuary Lakes? looks very familiar
Yes, we did! But we call it SUV paradise.
so is the cx60 replacing the cx5 in the states?? we don't have the cx50 here in usa. anybody know????????
cx60 I mean
No, CX-60 and CX-80 will not be sold in USA.
You get CX-70 and CX-90 as well as CX-5 and CX-50.

Rearward visibility in Australia is over-hyped. What’s it for? To see the tailgater behind?
We have a cx9 azami. It’s a big car and was hoping to down size a little. I found the cx5 abit squashy in the back. I’m 6’3.

It was too firm, now it's wishy washy...

No CX 60 in US. 🙁
Please Mazda…. Ship the 60 to North America!
I’d buy the CX60 in higher spec. Never buy base models not in any brand.
CX60 Full hybrid
A good option, but the PHEV is more expensive by a big margin.
I wish Mazda had just made a regular strong hybrid instead of an expensive plug in hybrid
In Europe cx-5 cargo space have 522 L
It's the same vehicle.
Mazda has always been stingy on space on their better driving cars especially rear seats.
Recently drive cx60 petrol, fuel consumption showed 19.4L per 100k
Holly molly thats a lot
The CX5 is serviced every 10k not 15k
