Glade to see it got a great home, I'm a car guy and love cars, still have my 55 Chevy and 63 Chrysler Imperial. 👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸❤
it upsets me when people call it the "Ferrari Dino". Enzo DID NOT want the Ferrari name/badge on it, as it wasnt a v12. He tried to reclaim it after it became hugely successful...
I know cringe every time I see that, should do a roadforce balance and the machines usually have an option to weight behind. Some also let you specify so it is not seen between spokes etc..and it gives a revised location.
Superb camerawork, you've got some real production value in there! Top notch editing, nice cuts and the music fits in perfectly and the soundwork is great ( the engine sound helps a whole lot ) Really good article, thanks guys, you can give yourselves pats on the back for that one.
Brilliant story, but @The Drive, if you're going to show a video of a car ( 4:30 ) with as beautiful sound as the Dino, you don't need to put a shitty musical sound track over the top of it. The car sound IS THE MUSIC!
A friend of mine had a split window corvette that disappeared back in 1966. He later found out that His Father had buried the Car, unfortunately He had chopped it up with an axe and buried the pieces. True Story.
TheAtheistSwine Because He had bought the Vette with insurance settlement money from a motorcycle accident that had ripped his right leg off at the Hip. His Dad didn't want Him having anything fast and dangerous again. BTW, they had put the leg back together and it worked amazingly well.
I've been pretty critical of the Jalopnik guys but I have to say Mike, you did an amazing job on this video and I can't wait to see more. It was really interesting and as well made of a video as I've ever seen. Another worthy addition to the DRIVE family.
HelloGeno I bet it would be a bitch to polish that car, the way it was painted is really unclear and God knows how much clear coat is on there, you would want the owner to paint this car again, a lot of history in that car
HelloGeno Yeah, I hear ya. I'm inclined to cut the guy some slack since it was painted in '78. Guess it hasn't been detailed (at least not competently) in a while.
NellsStuff Exactly, in the 70s it was common to have white lettering or whitewalls on one side & all black on the other with no real, proper, inside or outside. It was essentially personal preference. lol I recall one time my mother couldn't decide if she wanted the whitewalls or not so she had one side mounted whitewalls in & the other side the whitewalls out. lol She drove it that way for a while until she finally decided she liked the black better.
shananagans5 yeah, it was quite common to have your choice on lettering or blackwall (not the mounting of a pair on each side either way lol). This was long before Omni-directional tires and specific tire design for each corner of the car. On a similar note: I worked at a place that had sample sales all the time. What these were were products sent to the company by suppliers hoping we'd carry their products. I went to one and they had 2 of one style of mag wheel and 2 of another. All the same size and the right size for my car. They would retail for about $100 each but at this sale, they were $10.00 each. I was SO tempted to buy the 4 and just put 2 per side thinking "well, you can't see both sides at the same time" lol.....
michael cochrane lol Yea, my mom did that back when there was no structural difference in the inside Vs. outside sidewall so there was no functional issues. It just made her look crazy. With those sample tires I would put matching tires on the front & matching tires on the back. lol Well, I wouldn't do that now but when I was in college I would be thinking about how many pizzas I could buy with the money saved. lol
Thank you! Ken Imoff's level of craftsmanship and passion put into his scratch built Countach is unbelievable. Drive being the best auto journalist I know of, would do his story justice. In the mean time I'll be tuned in!
I am a monumental Ferrari fan and today I had a miserable day...until I watched this. Thank you so much for this, I would love to see more mini-documentaries like this one.
Mike, this was a good story and it was well presented by you. I can believe that hosting the live show can be a little tough, but you absolutely nailed this one. I could sense the real enthusiasm behind this story and you have good point of view on the car and people around it. I'm sure you enjoyed writing the story of this Dino and it did show. I hope I can see more of productions like these.
I translated the whole story from the initila article for our german Dino club magazine months ago and now found the end of mystery. Awesome report and video! The owner is a real Dino fan und the Car is stnning great.
The way our justice system is NOW...they would have charged the tenants or the property owner with possession of stolen property. They would not have let it slide. Maybe it was a lot different then...or just more corrupt now.

Crazy rare wheels and he lets some tire jockey put wheel weights on the outside. seriously?
I know cringe every time I see that, should do a roadforce balance and the machines usually have an option to weight behind. Some also let you specify so it is not seen between spokes etc..and it gives a revised location.
An earlier poster noted that at 13:22 it pans down the tire and it shows "MOUNT THIS SIDE IN". So the wheel isn't mounted right.
