ever since I found Larry's vids, my car has never looked better. And as far as people saying he does this or that wrong, if he didn't know what he was doing, would he be trusted to touch a $2,000,000 Ferrari? Or that 1 of 143 AMG CLK63? Think I'll listen to Larry, and not some youtube keyboard commandos.
AMMO NYC Agreed! You're the best TH-camr. My Honda civic looks like a Ferrari :) Well at least I treated it the same process and when i drive it, It feels like a Ferrari ;) Other then the torque difference. But still!
We spoke about it at length in the video, but the seals on this car are non-existent so the water (if used) would go right through the car. (believe me I would MUCH rather wash the car in the normal fashion, but its condition would not allow me to do so safely) Thx for watching. -L
Larry, You are a true craftsman. The people who leave ridiculous commenting are obviously not aware of the artistry needed, and that you are able to do. I have an autobahn trim 2010 accord in crystal black pearl that I got from Europe and with my extensive detailing knowledge and great tips from you I was able to level the paint and produce a deep see through finish.....keep it up !!!!
Chris Turko Dude as much as I love cars, there is more to life than buffing cars. Taking out a brain tumor without killing a patient is artistry not buffing cars.
Larry is the best on the net. Absolute joy to watch him do anything to a car. I love the passion, the knowledge and the joy. I get wicked stoked just watching him, I want to go clean my car.
I'm one of those people who didn't know I needed to work the product until it broke down. I was wondering why it wasn't working. Thanks for always answering my questions before I ask!
Looks fantastic,my only problem would be the tires, after 20 plus years standing, they need to be changed, rubber degrades over time.Original or not, if its going to be driven, safety first.
Indeed. As someone who just brought his 911 back from a 7 yr idle period, I can attest that the tires need replacing. After having my gas tank cleaned, and oil and brake fluid changed, I thought I could get by on my old 8-10 yo tires. They were badly flat-spotted and felt like driving on rocks. I had my car towed in and the above repairs done before I ever would have started it. I cringed at the final seconds of this video therefore. I realize mechanicals were not the point of this video, but some brief mention of them would have been in order here to warn people to be careful.
The point of the video is more the detailing work, rather than the mechanicals. The detailing guy's job is to make the car look as good as possible, and he's catering to the whims of someone who's blowing a lot of cash on having people restore his barn find car. Those types of people tend to be very image-aware, and how the detail guy talks about his process and planning and all that jazz is definitely tuned to telling his clients in a way they're comfortable with why his cleaning and polishing job is worth their money. While both he and his client know that those tires need replacing if that thing's gonna be driven, the detail guy's job is to make the car look good. Even if he knows those tires are going to basically be used to roll the thing into a shop and be immediately tossed, the owner will winge about them and think less of the detail guys work. It's functionally wasted effort to ensure that the owner doesn't have any apprehension that the detail guy cut corners.
The purpose of leaving the ancient tires on is to provide evidence of originality. When the car reaches its "forever" home, the owner can swap out rims and tires.
I bought from an Authorised Main Ferrari Dealer, a 19 year old low mileage Ferrari. It had about 16,000 on it. The dealer carried out a full service as part of the purchase cost. The dealer had organised a 3,500 mile trip to Monaco & back via other places in Europe, after 1500 miles the inner cords on all four tyres were showing!! We had been driving at very fast speeds. The car had to be left in Switzerland as it was undriveable on the worn out tyres. but it was cheaper to recover it back to the UK, before fitting four new tyres!!! The perfect looking tyres were the originals. The moral here is don’t trust a dealer to go to the expense of renewing tyres on low mileage old classic cars!!! This was an expensive trip as that same dealer refused to pay towards the cost to recover the car!! Nor towards the tyres! From this and other expenditure through lack of use I now will not entertain the purchase of low-mileage classic cars!! Cars need regularly being driven and maintenance based on age not mileage.
this guy is amazing. i just spent literally hours watching the videos on his channel than discovered he has videos on this channel too.....the only guy that can make watching a 30 minute video him of cleaning a car fly by! i just love watching people do something that they love, you can tell how much he loves doing what he does and it's so nice to see!
Larry... You never cease to amaze me with your attention to detail, enthusiasm and knowledge about the work you do. The thing I like best about your videos is they are not 5 minute clips of a shoddy how to. I can grab a drink and something to eat... throw it on full screen and enjoy watching and listening to everything you have to say. I swear I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos. (And I watch them ALL!) DRIVE CLEAN or don't drive at all! Keep up the great work!
Petrolicious should hire you and make a separate playlist about your journey in detailing vintage cars. Could be called "Drive Tastefully" or something like that. Totally love your work; I hope for more videos to come! :)
You are magician! The care and attention to detail you have are outstanding and these qualities with your experience and technical expertise produce some wonderful results. I really enjoyed the video and the fact that you shared your knowledge without being patronising. You are what we call in England “a Good Egg”. Thank you 🙏
Back in the day I used to detail cars as a side gig and I wasn't too bad, but wow, this man's passion for detailing is inspiring and far more technical. Great stuff!
why oh why... if you owned a car like that, would you let it get in that state... I was hospitalised I would ask family, friends, anyone to wash it... or make sure it's got a cover on it... If I died I would haunt someone to make sure someone looked after it..
+Joe Smith Ghosts are ridiculously bad at conveying understandable messages. I think it won't do your friends or your cars a lot of good to be haunted. But hey, it's just a Porsche, they're not so rare. The maddest recent vehicle barn were a couple of Buran spacecraft, which now makes all 3 accounted for (one was crushed into pieces by accident), which were lost because the actual barn they were in disappeared off the property lists and was a secret object. This was a Russian Shuttle-like spacecraft which promised to be highly economical due to not being shot up by a rocket, but launching from the top of a special aeroplane, but the programme was cancelled for various reasons, among those because it wasn't deemed safe enough, in spite of a successful round-trip. The heat shield damage on re-entry was deemed a bit too risky. Evidently, similar risks existed in US Space Shuttle but were ignored at the time.
Have you seen how horrible some nieces could be at neglecting oil changes in Fords under 5 years old let alone maintaining a decades old Porsche? Well I don't know, maybe it could have been better but it certainly could have been worse!
You're also not considering that when the car was parked it was not as valuable as it is today. The owner may of had intentions to repair or do work to the car to allow them to drive it without doing permanent and irreparable damage to the car but never got back to it.
Ever been old and infirm and possibly stricken with dementia? Plenty of folks get this way and at that point the dusty old toys they played with in their youth can lose their importance.
I don't get why the owner was making such a big deal about the car being produced in '65 but being a '66. Isn't that the case for most cars? The manufacturer will switch over to the next model year in the middle of the year?
I LOVED this video, that original 912E is gorgeous, I loved how you were able to save that great original green paint and it looks beautiful contrasting with the tan leather and I love that wood wheel. I appreciated all the cleaning tips, they're very informative. Keep up the great work, I love old barn finds epically when they're put away, never touched originals and are able to run under their own power after all that time. I love how great it looks after all those years.
thirded... soo much better than the garbage on tv, only problem is that the network people will try to interfere because they think there needs to be more drama to keep the masses entertained :(
Why are there so many keyboard warriors commenting on this video. Larry is a brilliant detailer who works on several million dollar cars, with many repeat customers, a global fan base, his own product line, and several million views on his youtube account. If you can do a better job. Prove it. A car is only original once. The more careful the better.
I am a cabinetmaker with 45 years of French polish and furniture restoration experience. I learned so much from this short video. Thank you sir for a complete coverage of how paint is restored. As for you trolls Billy Gruff says, get a life eh
After his cleaning/polishing, and that were my barn find, I would only do basic mechanical and rubber restoration. This way, I can proudly tell folks the car is all original. And I love the way the interior came out, speaks volumes about the quality materials used by Porsche. Just awesome.
Lovely car, very period & not over done. A car to drive on a sunny day, that says "I`m more about history & heritage" than showing off & letting the whole place know your there. Very cool!
You do amazing work. There is a soft spot in my heart for aircooled porsches. It is nice to see this old 912 being brought back. I also found your comments on working the product in helpful. I believe I fall into that category of not doing that. Thanks for the video and the instruction!
Larry. Your videos are so interesting. I can't believe the amount of work and preparation that goes into cleaning cars without causing more damage. Thanks for the continuing education.
He is a professional detailer anything he touches he can fix, and once you wax a car the wax is an armor that protects the paint of the car. Someone who doesn't know how to properly detail a car would be scared to touch it, like yourself.
For me, spending an entire weekend detailing your car, then taking a step back and admiring the results is a great feeling. Larry's knowledge is inspiring! He takes it to a whole new level. Fascinating stuff.
I think it takes lots of skill and patience to restore a car in such condition, Larry has both of those. Great video! Thanks for taking the time to show us.
Wow! This video is a piece of inspiration. Clearly demonstrates true passion and the human element in alignment and the synergies that transpire from that. It doesn't matter if you're washing cars or the CEO of a Fortune 500, both are just as respectable. If only we all took to what we truly love to do and pushed to perfect it. Would love for you to share more of your personal and professional story!
I like how owner really asked a lot of question that I wanted to know answer on. Most of owners are just bystanders, but this dude engaged in really good way with real solid questions.
Maybe back in 2012. Even junky 912s are getting REALLY pricey these days. For 14k, you're not finding a runner, let alone a clean one. Expect to pay 20+ these days.
I just love how passionate content creators like you have become, it's always nice to see someone be as passionate as you are on what they do. Keep it up, man.
+Mykle Bust This isn't the restoration itself, he said that in the video. This is them cleaning it up to see what exactly they are dealing with. As a barn find, they did this to see weather or not it's worth the time and money to restore...
This is the ultimate restoration as it still remained in its original condition. Very few cars actually have a perfect restoration and most of the car is replaced.
He just wool padded the entire car, what the hell are you talking about.. Oh shit you guys don't know what a wool buffing pad is, you guys just get your information from car magazines while sipping free coffee in a Jiffy Lube waiting room.
Mr. Clean strikes again! Thank you, drive, for this awesome video. Guess I'm kinda Larry, here by that I just get huge satisfaction from watching/working on something like this and seeing it go from junk to a piece of art!
Mostly likely he did clean the engine and other mechanicals, but this was already a 30 minute video which is much longer then his usual videos. It takes a lot of work and a lot of time to edit and optimize a video. I bet the engine cleaning was behind the scenes, considering he already has a video dedicated to cleaning an engine. But yea, I was a bit surprised to, especially when he was like "woaaahhh, look at all these cob webs!" haha.
Larry holds the same revered love for Porsche cars as I do and I appreciate and remember his advice every time I touch mine. Until you own one this all may be lost on you.
nope, true restoration means replacing all necessary components with original components in order to keep factory specifications, this was in best case some washing..
I'm surprised that there are so many negative comments on this page that all hint at jealousy. I thought the guy did an excellent job of illustrating and explaining the process and art of what this type of restoration is for the individual who wants to get his hands dirty. Just feel lucky that he's willing to share that with us.
god this kind of "reality" show is just awful... two guys staring through the windows of a garage WHILE THE CAMERA GUY IS INSIDE NEXT TO THE CAR, and one dude says "is the garage open"? ... sigh... Just get to the car and the "restoration". This silly fake drama is enough to make me puke.
Has anyone considered they got certain shots after events had happened and edit them in earlier for better framing and viewing. Is it open couldve been how it was shot, once the opened it the camera guy went in and got stock footage of he car in the dark garage as stock footage to use later... or are you people too dumb to consider such things?
There are too many jelly trolls in this comment section, i have to look away or else i might be encased into the dumbness of their comments. Seriously, he is probably more qualified to touch that car than some of you guys are to touch a doorknob.
Obviously this car needs way more attention. You can easily save that paintjob, treating the rust, small dings and really bringing back the chrome will take far more work than what this guy did. I would've never steam cleaned the car, the rubbing on the paint with dirt leaves tiny scratches, I know he mentioned those, but why not replace the seals and just clean it properly. I get it's a 912, it's a good find, I certainly would love it, but take time. Last thing I would've worried about was tire shine, properly cleaned wheels need to be removed from the car. This is a BASIC, very BASIC "restoration" tons more needs to be addressed, I wouldn't have wasted this car on a basic restoration tutorial.
Uu spider webs that is cool it is a 66 did i mension it is a 66 it is a green 66 and i use this 66 as an armrest did i mention it was a 66 made in 66 but it is 66 because it is a 66 made in 65 but it is 66
ever since I found Larry's vids, my car has never looked better. Touche sir. My reading skills betray me yet again.

watch all his videos, this was nothing, his attention to detailing gets insane

when you find something like thief, do you first inflate the tires to roll it? I'd think they would be flat after all of those years
I'm one of those people who didn't know I needed to work the product until it broke down. I was wondering why it wasn't working. Thanks for always answering my questions before I ask!
Thats the nicest note ever. Thank you so much!

Makes it worth more money
Ever been old and infirm and possibly stricken with dementia? Plenty of folks get this way and at that point the dusty old toys they played with in their youth can lose their importance.
it gives me such a good feeling, on one hand you have history behind the car, and on the other the process itself is very relaxing and satisfying
"Is it open?"
Camera inside...
+yyyy2999 That's exactly what I was thinking lmao.
It's staged for the video made for us viewers.
he said can we open it not is it open...
The garage door, not the door on the car.
A shame they carry on to YT TV's format for making shows.
Kinda dumb.
This is pure reverence, what touch and skill applied to such a car. Amazing skill.
I don't get why the owner was making such a big deal about the car being produced in '65 but being a '66. Isn't that the case for most cars? The manufacturer will switch over to the next model year in the middle of the year?
I was thinking the same thing
almost all german manufacturers do this
Yep, my BMW is 2010, bought it in 2009 new.
all manufacturers do this (FTFY)
the owner seems like an idiot.

ammo you should make your own tv series, this is awesome
Would love it!
i second that....way better then whats currently on tv
thirded... soo much better than the garbage on tv, only problem is that the network people will try to interfere because they think there needs to be more drama to keep the masses entertained :(
Larry is a master of cleaning and restoring beauty to automobiles.
These people show there inexperience when they don't know what a wool buffing pad does.
Majority of the trolls are still in school, they have no idea how the real world works.
It's like watching the car be re-born. Fantastic stuff. What a gorgeous machine. Great work Drive.
Is just cleaning a car really considered "restoration"?
lovexsqualor it's considered paint restoration
Smells Hollywooded to me.
Example number xx,xxx of why 'nothing is ever good enough for online car people'
lovexsqualor it’s something like exterior reconditioning
lovexsqualor it’s a paint restoration
The most detailed cleaning explanation I've ever seen. Impressive.
Can't believe all the negative comments on this video. Jesus Christ people, he's just doing his best to detail a car. No need to hate on him.
I am a cabinetmaker with 45 years of French polish and furniture restoration experience. I learned so much from this short video. Thank you sir for a complete coverage of how paint is restored. As for you trolls Billy Gruff says, get a life eh
This guy gots a passion for what he does, 👍🏽👍🏽good job!!

2:55 - "Is it open?" ...camera man recording from the inside of the garage
lol
It's mighty lucky to find an old gem of a car that only needs detailing, not a through restoration.
Green always looks good on antique euro cars!
nice to watch someone who is so competent in his craft work.
damn this guy knows what he is doing! Love his passion to clean cars
People can call it advertising / marketing , but Larry is a guy who loves what he does and is great at what he does.
The cleaning guy sounds like Linus from LTT.
i honestly dont think soo
+Karl Glenn It doesent sound like him but definetly looks a little bit alike
Maybe we can get those two to meet get linus' pink car all shined up
Since you mentioned that, Tunnel bear!
haha you made me laugh XD good on ya!
this series is fantastic,i love listening to someone who really knows what their talking about,LOVE IT !
Thx Brian!
Lovely car, very period & not over done. A car to drive on a sunny day, that says "I`m more about history & heritage" than showing off & letting the whole place know your there.
Very cool!
The paint is awsome its soo clean the car is amasing!!
You do amazing work. There is a soft spot in my heart for aircooled porsches. It is nice to see this old 912 being brought back. I also found your comments on working the product in helpful. I believe I fall into that category of not doing that. Thanks for the video and the instruction!
lol what's hard about understanding that it's a 66 model year?? lol
'thats weird' umm..no? the industry still works like this
I was thinking the same thing. That's how all model years work. lol
Really weird that car guys wouldn’t know this. Ever heard of a fiscal year guys?
Yes the factory closes in mid June goes on vacation until august and start the next year models
It was different then for Porsche.
Great car! Sometimes, I forget the charm of the 912, then it all comes back and I remember what a nice car it is. That feeling is worth the wait!
Ammo NYC is the man, i'm subbed to him.
Larry. Your videos are so interesting. I can't believe the amount of work and preparation that goes into cleaning cars without causing more damage. Thanks for the continuing education.
I can't get over the guy constantly using this classic as a resting place for his arm..
posing for the camera

Leathers were mint!
You definitely take a lot of pride in what you do, these cars are a reflection of that. Outstanding job
"Is it open?"
"Yeah, supposed to be."
Meanwhile, the camera guy is already inside. :)
You make it look so simple but yet so sophisticated.
Great job
Great vid
Keep on the fine work 👍🏻
Whatta ya call an arachnid living in a Porsche? A Spyder.
I think it takes lots of skill and patience to restore a car in such condition, Larry has both of those. Great video! Thanks for taking the time to show us.
what can i say. this is just Beautiful.
This is the type of drive clean I love watching. The wheel refurb/repair ep was alright in its on way but this was what I love seeing. Great work!
That was the owner....not me. (how could you tell I was behind the wheel?)
These women should just wash the freaking car already.
I like how owner really asked a lot of question that I wanted to know answer on.
Most of owners are just bystanders, but this dude engaged in really good way with real solid questions.
The guy in the video was not the owner. He put the actual owner in touch with Larry. But he did his homework on 912's.
You can find these on Hemmings for about $14,000. Wonder how much that resto/detail job costs?
Maybe back in 2012. Even junky 912s are getting REALLY pricey these days. For 14k, you're not finding a runner, let alone a clean one. Expect to pay 20+ these days.
Naw, I did a Hemmings search the day I posted the comment.
CurseTheDawn
Check um out now bub....
They ain't $14,000 no more!!!
One of the best shows on Drive. Thanks for this moment.
The owner of this Porsche doesn't care whether it's clean or not.
this guy is a boss i take his advice when i wash my car and i get tons of compliments about how clean my car is
lol "is it open?" (cameraman takes the shot from thew inside)
It`s a passion you have and a love for cars and the joy to see perfection with your eyes brother.
Its coming :)
I just love how passionate content creators like you have become, it's always nice to see someone be as passionate as you are on what they do. Keep it up, man.
restoration=cleaning LOL......LOL
+PuppetMaster well, it's still not restored, just cleaned and waxed...
It's a paint restoration, thus it checks out. Some of their titles could use just a little improvement.
He just wool padded the entire car, what the hell are you talking about.. Oh shit you guys don't know what a wool buffing pad is, you guys just get your information from car magazines while sipping free coffee in a Jiffy Lube waiting room.
I love how much respect he gives the car and how much pride he has in his work! Really awesome video!
i done a full restoration on my car yesterday, i washed it
Mr. Clean strikes again! Thank you, drive, for this awesome video. Guess I'm kinda Larry, here by that I just get huge satisfaction from watching/working on something like this and seeing it go from junk to a piece of art!
i was kind of expecting some attention to the engine or other mechanical parts... they literally just polished the car O_o
Until you own one this all may be lost on you.
and what was restored here?
The spirit apparently
This is a true restoration. All its originality remains. Any replacements means it is not an original.
nope, true restoration means replacing all necessary components with original components in order to keep factory specifications, this was in best case some washing..
The paint was restored to original shine. Sir you show your inexperience when not knowing what compound and a wool pad does to the paint.
Paint resto is just a fancy way of saying he cleaned/washed the car. The 912 was dirty at most, bit of a misleading title really.
I cringed so hard. smh dude
I was thinking the exact same thing! another show I watch is where the "deadline" is ALWAYS 4 weeks. UGH
As someone who has restored cars, the deadline aspect is total baloney. If any owner gives you a deadline, you should refuse the job.
This was really special. Barn finds are the best!
Thumbs up if you want this guy to wash your car
Loved the little info bubbles and the return to the original theme song. Keep it up.
"Is it open?" LMAO.... If it's not then please explain how the camera man got in there:)
This is a great video. This detail guy is ridiculously good. Sooooo detailed with his explanations.
Just wash the damn thing
+Ken Brown he decided not to because all the seals were shot..... he explains it at 14:00
I'm with Ken man... wash the damn thing already. Guess he has to make it seem all special and high quality.
Only Drive can make a 30 min video about cleaning cars that I love. Great job Larry.
that dude only cares about the money he's gonna get for it! lol
I love drive clean, just the production and the way it presents info makes it my favorite Drive show.
There are too many jelly trolls in this comment section, i have to look away or else i might be encased into the dumbness of their comments. Seriously, he is probably more qualified to touch that car than some of you guys are to touch a doorknob.
This guy is one of the best professional detailers I've ever seen! AWESOME JOB!
that interior condition/quality is porn
This show is better than 90% of everything on TV
But I am soooo.....
Well maybe I don't have a TH-cam channel, but I consider myself well off and successful.
Good point but he polished it afterwards.
Top notch job Larry.
Glad you're back on Drive channel.
Uu spider webs that is cool it is a 66 did i mension it is a 66 it is a green 66 and i use this 66 as an armrest did i mention it was a 66 made in 66 but it is 66 because it is a 66 made in 65 but it is 66
That care of detail with cleaning plus the tutorial on applications was great, enjoyed the video ! Now on to my Porsche project for the day.
This guy loves to over complicate things
Turning on the car at the end was so awesome. Probably my favorite Drive Clean so far.
