Hah 😂 I was thinking the same thing and had visions of a big scratch in that gorgeous new paint work!! Of course Iain would never let that happen but it did seem awfully close 😂
On Jay Leno one of his staff dented the sill of his Mercedes 300SL when they were moving it off the trailer. I think my heart stopped for a moment there.
Dino had muscular dystrophy and died at 24, Enzo said most sons are inspired by their fathers but Enzo was inspired by his son. The v6 296 gtb is a the spiritual successor to this car and with that engine architecture they won 24 lemans and 24 Nurburgring among other accolades, also the mid engine Ferrari was born with this Dino 246, really a special car
As a kid at school it was my dream Ferrari....sadly once I grew up I was too tall to fit in it. To my mind it is stated best looking Ferrari ever made.
There's people who know what they're talking about. And then there's Mr. Tyrrel. An absolute enjoyment to listen such expertise expressed with vast vocabulary and a calm, fluid voice.
I'm definitely a purist and love a stock car but extra panels, drain holes, modifications that preserve the craftsmanship are 100% ok for me. especially when you're preserving something that wasn't preserved by the factory either by design or cost cutting. this is going to be the best dino on the planet
Describing Aft of the rear wheel was the most cumbersome explanation I have ever heard. Simply state the Inner Fender support is a sheet metal sandwich that traps moisture. I was surprised Tyrrell did not paint that inner panel also since they know it is a water trap. The aftermarket vertical piece Tyrrell added is truly questionable looking and too blatant IMHO
It must be exciting for the owner to know everything is being done right and better than new. What a Car is going to roll out the garage when it’s finished. When craftsmen do their stuff, if only everyone took such pride in the work they do.
Always a pleasure to see craftsman with proper work ethic presenting their skill especially metal and paintwork like this. Very satisfying to see this level of quality.
I first fell in love with the Dino, when Tony Curtis rocked up in one in the very first episode of "The Persuaders" and I'm still in love with it, how can you not be. It's so Wonderful to see Master Craft's men keeping these works of art alive and well for many more years to come. Bellissimo!
"So if you do have a Dino or a Daytona, make sure you ..." and the ENTIRE audience involuntary starts paying extra attention because it sounds like crucial information and you might just pick one up in the future. 😁 And then half a second later, reality sets in. 😅
I'm getting shivers seeing those old panels being handled close to the car as I'm clumsy 😱 What a great channel, no egos, very down to earth and easy to watch.
I had a 246 GT followed by a 246 GTS in the mid to late 70's. Fabulous cars, and arguably, all the Ferrari you need on todays roads in the UK. Exquisitely pretty, and sound fantastic. A jewel.
You could pay thousands of dollars (or pounds) for therapy or you can watch Iain Tyrrell and come away feeling there is integrity left in the world and you are left feeling content, grateful and in a great place. Thanks so much.
Hello Iain . I was using the same flatting system as Ryan 30 years ago , except l started off with 800 grit but always used a D.A . When l first started flatting 2 pack in the late 1970's the very fine grits ie 2000 + were not available so it was 1500 by hand ! And the only polishing compounds were not designed for 2 pack paints . So you had to let the paint harden off for at least 2 days as using the compounds beforehand would actually "scrub off" the top coats ! I was one of the first painters to adapt to 2 pack materials . The first car l ever painted in 2 pack was a mini moke that l restored for l believe , BOB wartime ace ,Johnny Johnson who lived in Andorra in 1974 ....ish ! And your claim of the Porsche 911 being ,more robust than the Dino ? I can assure you that the 7 year old 911 T l rebuilt in 1977 was equal and even worse than your Dino ! And back then replacement panels were unobtainable (or too expensive !) It was also the first car l repainted in Glasurit 54 line , in my opinion the best paint ever available to the trade then or since. As always lain , so enjoy your bulletins . Thankyou
Seing that bare Dino body in that beautiful paint really just enhances what a thing of extreme beauty that car is. It's quite easy to imagine it as a brandnew 2023 car with modern lights and without the oldfashioned bumpers and lights. To me, that really says it all. Can't wait to see this finished up.
What if Ferrari’s looked like rubbish? No one would take all this effort to restore them, like Iain and his team is doing! What a craftsmanship! So thank you Mr Pininfarina for all these gorgeous designs! 😊
The enjoyment of watching these videos is intoxicating the cars are amazing plus a bonus with tips that just pop up, the paint finish tip was gold! many thanks Iain and Ryan
Gorgeous! I own a lowly (but pristine) '85 Mondial QV Cab. I dream of this Dino. It is my most favorite car ever crafted... Nothing matches this piece of art.
For me a masterpiece of 20th Century mechanics and design. I would paradoxically hate to own one, I am perfectly content to contemplate it at a distance. A beautiful presentation, can’t wait for the test drive and hearing that wonderful V6 soundtrack!
Out here in the Colonies, Sydney, we did’t get to see much exotica. Our family doctor had a Red Dino. It was from then that I became a student of car design and have remained enthralled ever since. I was about 11, 1971, I think. It was only recently that I replaced the long standing personal favourite shape of the Dino with the Muira. I stayed loyal for about 50 years. Did you have to sit them side by side to re-invigorate my internal wrangling ? Both gorgeous and the low shots of the front of the Dino sends the mind back to those early days ogling this low hanging sensuous form. Great post Iain . I knew I would love this episode as soon as I read the Resurrecting Beauty title. Looking forward to seeing it complete, creating such craftsmanship must be truly satisfying, your legacy will roll on for some time. Salute & thankyou.
Oil viscosity and revs ! I will remember those and apply to my dreamworld Dino 🙂 What a beautiful job of work those guys at Cheshire prestige did. Well done mr Tyrell for another informative and watchable project Thank you👍
I always thought these cars are some of the prettiest ever made. I was lucky enough to have a drive in one when I was 18 back in the 70’s and hadn’t long passed my test. It was magic.
The red paint is absolutely gorgeous! Wish we could have seen the bodywork being performed. This is going to be an awesome build. Thank you Ian, and all involved.
Love the fact you’ve optimised the sound in stereo to have yourself in the left hand speaker and Ryan on the right. Another great technical video to boot. ❤
It may have been a competitor for the 911 but it beat it in the beauty contest hands down. I had no idea, how neet and practical that engine and tramsmittion layout was. As you say so similar to the Mini A Series layout of the late 1950s!!! I love the Dinos, and that fabulous, V6 that ended up in the Lancia Stratos. Why do we act with such awe when we find craftsmen who do the job properly? Because the industry is plagued with the normality of bodged jobs and rip off merchants. Can not wait to see it as it's rebuilt.
As a former owner of one of those Minis I can say that the engine?gearbox layout was precarious if the bottom end had trouble. Mine had the crankshaft develop a crack part way across one of the throws and luckily I tore it down and replaced the crank before it broke completely. Still shudder to think of what all those metal parts would have done had they fallen into the gears.
My favourite car ever ! Used to repaint these at Marrenellos , straight from the factory, would arrive with micro blisters from new, totally repainted, back to bare metal. 6 months work !
Quite illuminating and shocking at the same time actually in the sense of how they already were in a state of corrosion internally in the showroom. My goodness. Something I've not realised as of yet. Most flabbergasting. These Dinos are beautifully lovely crafted but really tiny inside. However, they do stand out in their own particular distinctive way and genuinely precede the 308; an icon as well in their own right I should say. Thank you both again gentlemen for sharing your exquisite passion and update ❤
So many cars from most all manufacturers world-wide, were "born with rust, well into the seventies/early eighties. Japs, Germans, USA, and even the Italians.
Best Pals Dad had one of these back in the 80's - still has it too. He won it playing cards as it happens. Me & the pal used take it out pretty often. If we parked it anywhere, when we came back, there would be people stood around it ooh-ing & aaahing. Not one outing would go by without someone asking to buy it - that sort of car. His Dad treated it like you would a Mondeo - it got used. We'd go shooting in it with the boot loaded up for pigeon, it got drivven across fields, fired up at 5am to go to work. Truth being, it was a right moody git to drive - I know, I drove it a lot. It hated traffic - the plugs would foul & it would start misfiring - it only liked being revved. It hated low revs with a passion. The driving position is absolutely awful - you're janked sideways, cramped in, the pedals are too close together, the gearshift is narky as hell, if you actually try hammer it, it'll kill you as grip is best described as "Lightswitch" style - I.E on & off - plus the clutch, despite being new (changed a lot) was mercilessly sharp. It loved getting new clutches... But - it was/is an achingly beautiful car - absolutely stunning to look at - (just not if you're in it on the North Circular Road in heavy traffic & it's spluttering, choking on its own fuel & you're trying not to stall it because the pedals were designed for someone who doesn't have feet and if you do rev it like it wants, it will slew off sideways into the barriers... but semantics. Epic car with epic memories - we did have some serious fun in it cruising down Hampstead High Street as 2 17 year olds with everyone staring. Trying hard to look as cool as the car - but also always terrified of it because it loved biting you on your face if you didn't pay it full attention. :-) I now have an MR2 as it is a close to the driving experience as I can get without the mechanical fruufery required to keep it running. I'm also a mechanic - I blame the Dino for that - as was the pals Dad who owned it.
Stunning little cars. Just the most beautiful bodywork of any car ever made. I had the pleasure of working on a stunning black GTS as one of the first cars when I started my apprenticeship at our local Ferrari/Porsche/Mercedes dealership in 1976. The Dino 246 is possibly my favourite Ferrari because of that.
I love seeing people who do quality work being showcased and that is an amazing job. Obviously, someone earlier in that car's life had done some hack repair work, but I would be surprised if the owner didn't pay them good money for what he thought would be quality work. Of course, you can't tell it's garbage until quite a while later. If you pay low prices and get low quality that's fine and expected, but while the opposite should be true, it too often isn't.
This and the Miura offer a fabulous looking bare shell, with beauty pencilled in from the start. When you start with this, you just know the finished article will be desirable.
I don't understand why some people get down on Dino's, I think they are beautiful, and what a lovely job of restoration done so far on this one, I am really looking forward to an update when this project gets a little further along, especially when it comes to the engine install. Cheers to a some very nice work!
I have never seen better paintwork than that on the Dino, it looks like glass, absolutely top work, as usual from your shop Iain! Really enjoyed the video, it was over too soon.......
Wonderful to see such skills and knowledge from modern craftsmen. For me this is the only way to restore cars, showing total respect for the designer, the car, and the owner of such a classic vehicle. I don't do "patina"!
That is just goddamn artwork! I mean; I'm watching this on a 10yr old computer screen and it still looks amazing. I envy all of you who are watching this on a 4k TV. Looking forward to the rest of this reno...
Magnificent. It always amazes me to see original panels from cars of this era and origin with no corrosion protection from new. Can't imagine what they were thinking, except perhaps there was the hope that there would be talented people decades later dedicating themselves to properly bringing jewels like this back. Well done!
The sprayed-oil cam lube issue also affected the Honda SOHC750 engines. They'd snap near the middle, because the oil was sprayed into the head space from the sides, with cups to catch the oil, and if it was too thick, or too thin, or the spray apertures were clogged, there would be no oil to the inner bearings and they'd seize.
Another wonderful video. Thanks for showing us the engine / transmission / diff, and how it all bolts together. That complete engine assembly would look fantastic as a piece of art on display in the living room!
Ryan is clearly the proud and meticulous British craftsman that's has brought international fame to British craftsman and engineering. It's a real pleasure to witness these gentlemen in action. 👍
What a fantastic paint and body repair job Iain , what I can’t get over Iain how these multi pound cars rot . Shocked to see no paint or wax protection on those inner panels .
At the last intermarque day I attended, the Ferrari area was a cross section of mostly 80s to modern day cars with a few older. Biggest crowd was gathered around the Dinos
That bare Dino on a stand looks prettier than many complete cars in showrooms these days. Beautiful cars, with rust at no extra cost!
How can something I know practically nothing about be so interesting? It’s a mystery! Thanks, Iain.
Anyone else get slightly nervous as Iain is swinging the sill around so close to a freshly painted body? Eeek!
Yep, I was on the edge of my seat through that bit 😂
Oh yes, clenched a bit myself then!
Hah 😂 I was thinking the same thing and had visions of a big scratch in that gorgeous new paint work!!
Of course Iain would never let that happen but it did seem awfully close 😂
I was coming here to post the same. Don't scratch the paint!
On Jay Leno one of his staff dented the sill of his Mercedes 300SL when they were moving it off the trailer. I think my heart stopped for a moment there.
25 Minutes and 23 seconds of unmatched content!
Thank you Iain

One of the nicest looking cars of all time. Great to see this one being brought back to better than new condition.
As a kid at school it was my dream Ferrari....sadly once I grew up I was too tall to fit in it.
To my mind it is stated best looking Ferrari ever made.
There's people who know what they're talking about. And then there's Mr. Tyrrel.

I must admit as a painter for 47yrs that job looks amazing 👌.

What a team, between yourself, Craig and Ryan. Serious talent, skill and knowledge. It's what these cars deserve.
Iain,
You are a delight to listen to. One of life's real gentlemen.
Thank you for being you, simple as that...
Seing that bare Dino body in that beautiful paint really just enhances what a thing of extreme beauty that car is. It's quite easy to imagine it as a brandnew 2023 car with modern lights and without the oldfashioned bumpers and lights. To me, that really says it all.

A beautiful care being cared for by the best in the business. Best Channel on TH-cam is right here.
Why is this car one of the most beautiful looking cars I've ever seen ?
Simply stunning. Thank you gents for the tour!
The enjoyment of watching these videos is intoxicating the cars are amazing plus a bonus with tips that just pop up, the paint finish tip was gold! many thanks Iain and Ryan
Thanks for appreciating!
To say I enjoyed this video, is an understatement! Congratulations for all this craftsmanship, dedication and passion!

That will be a stunning vehicle when its finished. Always loved the shape of the Dino.
The red paint is absolutely gorgeous! Wish we could have seen the bodywork being performed. This is going to be an awesome build. Thank you Ian, and all involved.
My. Favourite car of all time, first saw one in early seventies and fell in love with it.
Love the fact you’ve optimised the sound in stereo to have yourself in the left hand speaker and Ryan on the right. Another great technical video to boot. ❤
Not very pleasant when the voices are hard panned - doesn't sound good at all on a decent listening setup. Sometimes less is more.
Also have 4k content, shows off the paint work gloriously...what a job, very well done Ryan.
My neighbour had one in sidcup kent in 1975, finished in Red. Looked fantastic even then! Wonderful video with wonderful people.

Often though of as my favourite pony. Reminiscent of the GT40 another love.
My favourite car ever ! Used to repaint these at Marrenellos , straight from the factory, would arrive with micro blisters from new, totally repainted, back to bare metal. 6 months work !
It's nice to see that the Dino has become more desirable over the last two decades.
Working that amount of magic must have costed a lot of mischief from Ryan...😂🎉😮 Greetings from South-Africa!❤
The best. ❤❤❤❤❤
so this car was about 50 years old before restoration. astonishing it made it that far!

I have an original hammer like that, I've changed the head twenty times and the handle twenty times. But its still wonderfully original.😄
The paintwork finish is utterly sublime. Ryan is another pedantic perfectionist, a credit to your channel.
Ryan is not only A Master's in Chassis and Body Work.
He is an Emminence on Them.

What a wonderful presentation. It is such a blessing to be able to learn so much about these beautiful and important cars!
The Miura & Dino the best looking classic Sports cars in my opinion the body work looks stunning. looking forward to the build !!

Thank you Iain, Ryan et al. Excellent video.
These Dinos are so pretty. Definitely in the top five of most beautiful Ferrari's ever made.
As usual Ian ,very well done on a great presentation , really enjoyed it. Thank you. Pierre
Have always loved the Dino, I can only wish. Look forward to seeing the completed build and test drive. 👌👍
The Dino is one of the top 5 purest car design.
Really superior insight into early Ferrari construction standards, and the quality of the steel in use ?!
Wow, this is going to be awesome when it's finished
Magnificent.
It always amazes me to see original panels from cars of this era and origin with no corrosion protection from new. Can't imagine what they were thinking, except perhaps there was the hope that there would be talented people decades later dedicating themselves to properly bringing jewels like this back. Well done!
My favourite 'Rrari , and it's one of the faster red ones now ! Super video !
Epic paint work, can’t wait to see the finished item Ian! Great vid….
Hat tip to Ryan and crew. Well done.
Cheers
The sprayed-oil cam lube issue also affected the Honda SOHC750 engines. They'd snap near the middle, because the oil was sprayed into the head space from the sides, with cups to catch the oil, and if it was too thick, or too thin, or the spray apertures were clogged, there would be no oil to the inner bearings and they'd seize.
Wow - great episode and many thanks Iain and team!
Looking forward to seeing the end result..
Dino body is stunning, what craftsmanship. Brilliant 👋
Wow! What else can I say? The owner must be amazed.
They might rust, and all cars do so .Yet its so beautiful , its not done like this anymore is it.
Better than it ever came out of the factory:)
Truly excellent content yet again !
Thanks to you, Ryan and the team for compiling and sharing a great insight into the restoration of this Dino.
Brilliant bodywork & paint job by Bryan and excellent mechanical renovation & presentataion by Tyrell...Keep them coming!
Love hearing the master craftsman explaining all the extra steps on the road to perfection 🐐💪👌
To my mind, the most attractive car ever designed. Simply stunning design.
One word Stunning !
I’ve always found that professional bodywork is magic. I like seeing a body redone without any Bondo
Just amazing workmanship!!!!!
Dino looks amazing 😮❤
Absolutely remarkable.
Superb. Keep them coming please!
Another wonderful video. Thanks for showing us the engine / transmission / diff, and how it all bolts together. That complete engine assembly would look fantastic as a piece of art on display in the living room!
Thanks! Really helped me better understand the Dino, much appreciated
My heart was in my mouth at 11:05 when Iain started moving that giant rusty piece of metal so close to the new paintwork. Phew… and breathe.
Same here, LOL
It wasn’t as close as it looks, honest!
@@iain_tyrrell Camera angle? ha ha
My goodness, that finish is just breathtaking! Brilliant work, guys.
Your cameras can't do that job any justice. Thankfully, you gave it a go 🇺🇸
Iain your big yellow hoist reminds me of the Harland and Wolf shipyard in Belfast
