My favorite jazz band and I love the singer. She should be famous.
This young lady sings and proclaims to the world in a very honest and unassuming way how the blues should be sung.No showbiz posing,no excessive facial expressions,no moving around the place for effect not overdressed (a compliment) She just stands there and sings as if she were at home and singing for her family and friends. She entertains,along with the band a 78year old Englishman immensely. keepit going Erica,and don`t change your style
the whole group just gets it.

Erika is a great singer, but she's just one part of Tuba Skinny. Every member of the band is very talented. It's hardly a "backing band."
No outlandish light show,no bizarre makeup or costumes, just great music.
Not even a bright sport coat & tie, w/ straw hat ... just ridiculously great music - and only "1 yr. old" at this point ....

Great music and pure talent without any stupid effects. That's the "original" America" as it is appreciated and admired. My compliments, and applause from Europe.
Really like the "New-Orleans-Jazz" of the 1920-iger jears, played and sung(?) by today's young people .

@@matty161 Yes, they still perform in the streets of New Orleans, but Erika is not often with them, though she joins in their tours.

I could not agree more. When I do a search on TH-cam I always look for ones where she is singing. She does a great job and I enjoy her voice.
Think of how great this sounds, especially here voice. Then think of how it was recorded: A cell phone in the middle of a busy street. Incredible.

I challenge any of the big stars of the modern era to stand on a street corner and project, in tune, like Erika in this video. Every member of the band brings something special. This is the basis for so much of today’s music.

See if you can find the recording of Bessie Smith doing the song. The Yellow Dog of the lyrics was the Yazoo Delta Railroad.

Yes, YES ! This is the music that changed EVERYTHING ! And my word, what a performance ! It's not easy to "busk" in New Orleans - but you sure do learn your "chops," and that is amply evident in the "sound" of this band. TIGHT and RIGHT !

Thank you Tuba Skinny Band Members for playing " Back to Basic" Music. No fancy stuff. Just instrumental and a beautiful voice. I try to play along with my Soprano Recorder . Especially on "Going Back Home". I have an Alto Sax, but you've inspired me to take up the Clarinet . I'm in my third week of self taught mode. I'm in the process of cleaning up my Chromatic Scale. It will take time to work out the squeaks, honks and silent puff sounds. But I have the time. I'm still breaking in my Embrocher. I Thank You for your music. God Bless You All. ❤😋

I kinda feel sad to see them on the street, but on the other hand that is what preserves them in their quality... i hope they KNOW how good they are, and how much they are appreciated. Hope they make a good living out of their art, because they deserve to be protected as a beacon of american culture.
Saw then at the NC Folk Festival this Sept. They were great. I sometimes forget how log they have been doing this. Many bands of the 1900-1945 period did not stay together as long as this group
