3-piece BBS mesh wheels like these are never played out. Really nice work there, you've inspired me to try my hand with a set of old Etoile 455's I've had sitting around.

I have refurbished BBS wheels a few years back on a MKVII I had. After I split the wheels apart I washed the centers and barrels in citrus engine wash and followed up with wheel acid like is used on tractor trailer aluminum wheels followed by a similar paint stripping product. One tip if you use a chemical stripper place the rim in a plastic bag to keep the stripper wet and stop by a carpentry shop and beg or buy a big trash bag of saw dust to clean the stripper off the wheels. I used a couple of ice scrapers to clean off any remaining clear coat. I cleaned up my centers and wheel centers much the same as you did but took my barrels over to a local truck wash and paid to have mine polished. I think I paid the guy 15 or 20 bucks a barrel for him to polish them which if you consider the cost of sandpaper and polishing compound etc plus my time I would have spent more than what I paid and still would not of been able to do get the barrels looking as good. Like you I painted my centers and wheel hardware. One thing you did not mention is to apply a thread locking compound on the bolts before reassembling them. Additionally a friend of mine who works at body shop at a dealership highly recommended that I paint the outer portion of the barrel from bead to bead with several coats of clear, his reasoning for this was to seal any pin hole defects in the barrels that could cause a slow air leak and to prevent corrosion. Like a dumb ass I did not take his advice and one of my wheels was plagued with a slow air leak which I solved when I dismounted the tire and cleared the barrel of the rim.

Tip: when using brush-on paintstripper on hard coatings like on those wheels, cover/wrap it with some plastic film or shrinkwhrap foil or something like that.
Directly on the product, that way the stripper doesnt get the chance to dry out before it has eaten all the paint/coat off the metal.

You'd be surprised how bad of curb crashing you can fix without using putty or bondo. Although I've considered using metal infused jb weld before or that liquid steel (I think is the name ). But you can use a file for the bad stuff. If you have a drill or any sort of rotating tool you can put some sort of flat sanding attachment to make quick work of anything. Usually you'll be alright with just some sanding, filler primer, then paint. Hopefully its not a complicated color to make it easier on yourself
