    I refreshed my tired 14in E30 basketweaves last summer (factory optioned gold faces with polished lips) and I empathize with the sanding! Like you, took me about an hour per wheel easily, before AND after primer.

  • @thomascanning595
    @thomascanning595 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    The part of the wheel that mounts up to the car should be block sanded to keep the surface straight so it can mate cleanly to the hub suface. Great video!

    • @XiseTK
      @XiseTK 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it should be bare metal to be honest. Pro wheel shops will leave that as a machined surface when they refurbish wheels.

  • @chriholt
    @chriholt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    An amazing job - can't wait to see the whole car! As others have pointed out, the white circle on the tire/tyre is supposed to be aligned with the valve. The only thing I would have done differently is to have kept the protective plastic on the face of the new stickers until the wheels were finally mounted on the car, but it's a minor nit :)

    Great restoration. I wish more people knew what the white dot on the tire means. It's the "low" spot or weight of the tire and should be mounted at the valve. I've done all my tires this way sometimes the wheel balanced out.

    • @Qpaxxer
      @Qpaxxer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is unfortunately a myth. I've been working in the car industry for over 10 years and the round markers on the tires, (usually Yellow, White or Red) is only storage information to the factory where they produce the tires and has nothing to do with weight. :)

    • @bluej511
      @bluej511 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Qpaxxer interesting you say that. Cuz ive tried it out of curiousity when I worked in a shop and always needed less weight when mounting the dot at the valve stem. It's no myth.

    • @Qpaxxer
      @Qpaxxer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bluej511 It might just have been a slight weight reduce in the rubber on the same side the marking is printed, this would be my only solution. But as long as you balance the wheel correct, it really doesn't matter where the marking is.

    I have the 2 piece styles 5s on my e34. I had to knock out all the studs (132) to turn them around for ridiculous offset.

    Doing the same process. Takes me 10's of hours and still not finished. Wouldn't want to do something like this ever again, so much work...
    How long did all this take to you? If I may ask..
    Well done.

    Could you please tell me why you sanded them so meticulously after the first real cote primer?
    Also, amazing work as always!!

    Might be a silly question, but why the off-brand tyres on what will surely be an immaculately restored rwd car with no driver aids? Seems like just asking to end in tears...

      i actually did a little research; and Lassa Tyres is a wholly owned Turkish Subsidiary of Bridgestone; its probably the same method like Walmart's Douglas tires are actually made by Goodyear. essentially affordable tire brands made by the big players.

      At least he should buy continental tires, they are not expensive even in Brazil, where I live...

      By the time he’s done restoring the car to a drivable state the tires will likely be flat spotted anyway. They’re just rollers

      towlie911 that makes sense; either that or he might swap them out on his other E30 when the engine gets restored.

      I thought the same. Shame not to put Pirelli or Michelin on them.

    Just a tip:
    You should do something to remove scratches from the windshield, or just replace it. It really reveals the age of a car when the sun hits it in the right angle.
