Of the many tough and fearless characters that we meet throughout the Harry Potter books, one man that I think is overlooked is Rufus Scrimgeour. Described as a man of action by Albus Dumbledore, Rufus did not underestimate Voldemort. Despite being captured and brutally tortured by the dark lord, his final moments were that of his outright refusal to give up any information on Harry Potter or any information in general that would aid the death eaters. Let’s take a look at man himself, this is the life of Rufus Scrimgeour.

Ahh, I still get chills. I'm glad Rufus went out strong.
I find it so stupid and arrogant from Harry not to help him.
Obviously the minister had no chance against Voldemort even they really tried.
Just one picture with Harry and him would have helped the wizard community in showing cooperation.
Harry knew how to stop Voldemort, the order knew Dumbeldore had a plan but the rest of the wizard community had no clue what was going on and thought it was over.
I see what you’re saying, but Harry wasn’t sure if he could be trusted. So much of the ministry was corrupted.
Also his refusal to fire umbridge despite heavy evidence against her for abusing the children at hogwarts. So if I were harry, I wouldn't trust him.
In the book they definitely did a better job explaining Harry's thoughts on everything than the movies. I think harry cooperating with the ministry would have definitely been a gamble, but I don't disagree with your point that it might have worked.
I don't blame Harry for the stance he took. Harry called him and the Ministry out:
"You never get it right you people do you? Either we've got Fudge pretending everything's lovely while people get murdered under his nose, or we've got you, sending the wrong people in prison and pretending you've got the Chosen One working with you..."
Shortly after, when Scrimgeour let's his guard down when he questioned whether or not Harry was the Chosen One, to which Harry pounced:
"I thought you said that it didn't matter to you, either way,"
"I shouldn't have said that, it was tactless,"
"No, it was honest. One of the only honest things you've said to me. You don't care whether I live or die, but you do care that I help convince people you're winning the war against Voldemort-I haven't forgotten Minister,"
Showing him the scars on his hand that show the words "I must not tell lies," that Umbridge forced Harry to carve into his own skin on his hand.
"I don't remember you defending me last year when I was trying to say that Voldemort was back. The Ministry was so keen to be pals then,"
It would be like a politician who has tried to discredit you for what you're saying, suddenly turning round once you've been vindicated to try and get back with the crowd. In that situation, I'd leave them high and dry as they'd deserve to be, just like Harry did here. The Ministry was neck deep in corruption to ever be truly effective
The Ministry assfucked Harry for an entire year and made him out to be a crazy person, they sent their dog Delores Umbridge to the school to oppress his fellow students and personally torture him. Of course he doesnt trust a word of their bullshit.

He may have been stubborn, but he died a hero.
Just got done re-reading Half-Blood Prince and am on Deathly Hallows. Scrimgeour refusing to give Harry's whereabouts to the Death Eaters has made him into one of my favorite characters.
He may have failed as a minister for magic but as an Auror he was an example to the rest of us.
Always considered him a hero despite the differences he and Harry had.

That comment is not from the books. It is from the movie. In the book Scrimgeour and Harry come very close to dueling. They are not friends. Would you be?
1) Too much show. Too little action.
2) Scrimgeour imprisoned men he knew to be innocent. Unforgivable.
3) Scrimgeour fought with the Order of the Phoenix.
4) Scrimgeour kept Fudge as an advisor. Worse, he kept Umbridge.
5) Scrimgeour let his head of DMLE box harry in and force the Battle of Seven the Potters. In the movie this fight hurt a lot of people on a motorway. Why didn't some wizard who owned a car simply drive Harry away and Side-Along-Apparate him to a safe house after they were safely far enough from Privet Drive. Surely some wizards lived in Muggle neighborhoods such as Godric's Hollow and drove cars,
Harry had just come from that and perhaps Scrimgeour had been yelled at by the Muggle Prime Minister. Surely the Muggle Prime Minister knew what caused these wrecks on the Motorway.
I wasnt surprised that Scrimgeour defended Harry to his last breath. He’s a former auror and it’s his duty as minister to not aid voldemort lol. im impressed by his guts though
Just being brave does not mean he was necessarily in Gryffindor. There were brave people in every House.

I agree. With how tactical he seemed I always thought he could have been a Ravenclaw.
Ravenclaws are more about free thought and thinking outside the box, rather than a closed, applied way of cleverness.
Take Luna Lovegood, Gilderoy Lockhart, Quirrinus Quirrell. They are all Ravenclaws and not all of them come off as being clever immediately. It's only later as the story unravels, that you see how they are clever.
Luna at fist just seemed like an oddball, which in some ways she is, but she also gives great advice and often has ideas which other characters, even Hermione, would never think of because it was based off of abstract thought.
Lockhart seemed like an idiot, but his backstory if you ever decide to check it out is quite interesting and essentially he was the archetypal kid who had the potential to do great things for himself but didn't work on it unless he was immediately good at it or unless he felt that it would increase his popularity. However in his own amoral way, he was a genius. He came up with a clever plan to become a famous and admired adventurer without actually doing any of the adventuring. Unfortunately he didn't take into account the fact that those wizards and witches might have told their friends of their adventures first when he obliviated them. Which is how Albus Dumbledore caught onto him. So while clever, not very tactical.
Quirrel was more tactical as it turned out, but for a lot of it he was under the dark Lord's instruction. All he had to do was find a creative way to fufill his orders, which he did well, to the point that he had practically everyone aside from Snape fooled. Heck, in the book he was trusted enough by Dumbledore that one of the defenses meant to be protecting the stone was one of Quirrell's making.
There are plenty of other houses with clever students but their cleverness is more obvious and the kind that applies to specific tasks.
Furthermore, I would even go as far to say that tactical planning was more of a Slytherin trait. Being cunning is an essential part of being a tactical thinker. It also requires an ability to figure out and then exploit the weaknesses of your opponent in order to gain victory and indeed to play to the strengths of your forces.
Also if we're going by the silver on his time, silver is actually a Slytherin colour. Ravenclaw's colours are blue and bronze, but were changed for the film along with the mascot which was an eagle but was changed for the films, most likely for marketing purposes.
Bill Nighy played an amazing role in the Underworld series as an ancient Vampire Lord. Hands down one of my favorite actors.

If you think about it both Fudge and Scrimgeour pretended everything was fine when it wasn't in different ways. Fudge was convinced Voldemort was dead and that Dumbledore was senile and Harry insane for speaking the truth about him being alive because he didn't want to have to deal with the consequences of a second wizarding war and therefore deluded himself that everything was peaceful. Scrimgeour on the other hand arrested innocent people he suspected of being Death Eaters just to make it seem like he and the Ministry were doing something about the actual Death Eaters.
Scrimgeour, in Half-blood Prince, tried in vain to get Harry to say to the wizarding world that the Ministry was doing a good job of fighting Voldemort. So it is not surprising that Harry, especially remembering Fudge's failures, refused to play his game
Harry be like: "You think I'm gonna help you after the ministry spent the last year or two trying to defame me and Dumbledore and ruin my life? Fuck you!"
I haven’t read the last couple books in years, so this video brought back the memories of how Scrimgeour impacted the story. Thanks Dean!

Do they ever get a good minister for magic? Cornelius tricks everyone into thinking Voldemort's return was a lie and goes as far as to tarnish Dumbledore and Harry's names while Rufus tricks everyone into thinking the ministry has the Voldemort re-uprising under control going as far as to arrest innocent wizards to give the impression that they are catching death eaters. Well at least Rufus did one good deed. He kept his mouth shut to Voldemort about Harry Potter.
Scrimgeour was basically another Barty Crouch Sr.
awesometacular Kingsley Shacklebolt was Minister for Magic after the Second Wizarding War. He will be replaced by Hermione Granger this year.

The reason for keeping the news about Voldemort quiet may have been to prevent a greater divide in the general population. It was important to keep those who might come to his side, if they knew he was alive, in the dark, it would have been a lot worse.I

Rufus Scrimgeor doesn’t get the credit he deserves as he managed to hold off Voldermont and his forces for over an year all while cleaning the mess Fudge left behind. Many including Harry criticized Scrimgeor for keeping Dolores in office but I believe this was an ideal strategy at the time knowing that she couldn’t be trusted. If he had sacked her immediately, Voldermont would’ve acquired a former high ranking official privy to sensitive information sooner. In Scrimgeor’s mind it was a matter of keeping potential enemies closer, to watch their every move and it worked but not in the way he envisioned. Dolores did slip up just as he expected and got locked up in Azkaban for life .

Scrimgeor's tie is silver and black (or possibly a deep dark green?), so possible Slytherin house connection, even though they were silver and green house colors.
A side note on the actor. He was Davey Jones in the 2nd and 3rd Pirate's of the Caribbean movies, he was also Slartibartfast in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie, and he was the curator and guide with the bow tie in the Van Gogh section of the Louvre in the Doctor Who episode, "Vincent", in the Matt Smith era.
