The hall monitor is Leslie Hoffman she was a stunt woman who was instrumental in the advocacy for stunt people. She was also permanently disabled due to continuous physical trauma as a stuntwoman.
When this film was released in theatres, I saw a trailer for it on the TV as a child. And that scene of Freddy with the long arms terrified me. That scene was my very first exposure and memory of the very concept of horror. Even though it gave me nightmares at the time, it would later go on to be my favourite horror franchise. In my teens I had a life-size poster of Freddy hanging directly on a wall in front of my bed. He was the last thing I’d see as I fell asleep. 😅
Now that you've seen all of them, there's a kick ass documentary from 2013 about the entire series called Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy. It has interviews with cast, directors, special effects artists, composers, producers, the whole bottle of wax. It tells how they did some of their stunts, what the directors were thinking, and how they did what they did. It's really insightful. I highly recommend it! There's one by the same guys for the Friday the 13th series too, but wouldn't recommend that until you watched the whole series. They're both on Amazon Prime. If you're a horror fan, or a fan of the franchise at all, it's a must own.
Blaine Walker Jsu Garcia credited as "Nick Corri" because Latino actors at the time were so stigmatized in the acting business, he had to pass himself off as Italian American to get a job, he also costarred in "Candy Man 3: Day of the Dead" (1999).
AYO, you finally managed to get this up! This is probably my favourite first movie of any horror franchise. The score, the opening, the practical effects, the imagery, the bathtub scene and the fact that Freddy is actually terrifying. And don’t even get me started on Tina’s death scene, it’s probably the greatest death scene in any horror movie ever. It’s so damn good. Outstanding film.
Truly one of the most creative horror movies of our time. It's genius because of the dream aspect (brilliant minds can do magic w/ that). Wes Craven was inspired to make this story because of a creepy news article too.
I think Nancy was basically talking in her sleep when she asked Glen if he was still there. He answered and she heard it in her dream. He wasn't actually inside her dream. When this came out, Robert Englund was best known for his part in the TV miniseries V. V for visitors was about aliens who came declaring peace, but really they just wanted to eat us. Robert Englund played the genuinely friendly alien who was against the plot of his people. He played such a kind and gentle alien that this role was a bit of a shock.
I came to Nightmare on Elm Street way late in my early adulthood. I can appreciate the camp from this movie but I can’t say I ever got nightmares from it. That being said, I really enjoy framework of this series. Especially how it deals with dreams and therefore gives every filmmaker license to explore surrealist imagery. Which I absolutely love.
Same, the first time I watched the original was about 3 years ago & I couldn’t believe it took me so long to see it, I absolutely love it & the franchise. I watched the first few minutes of Wes Craven’s New Nightmare back when I was in elementary school or middle school cause it was on Netflix but then I fell asleep (un-ironically) because it just felt like a documentary to me & I had no idea what was going on due to never see any of the previous film & so after that I just was against watching the franchise cause I thought it would be too boring for me cause I was too young then finally a few years ago in high school, I decided what the heck imma just see the first one & to my surprise I loved it & I watched the rest & love all of them (except the reboot, not that bad but don’t really care for it) & now New Nightmare is probably my #2 favorite which is so ironic & coincidental how things work out.
I wonder how many people don't realize that the arms of Freddy's sweater, in the original movie, aren't striped. But of course striped in all the other films. It's something I didn't even realize til a couple months ago. I think my brain just filled in the blanks all these years. So when it comes to the remake, I actually don't think it's so bad. Jackie of course isn't Robert, but I think he pulled it off in his own way. I do always understand why people would dislike any remake though.
@@ScaredPale the funny thing is, after just now watching someone else react to Nightmare 1: it always annoyed me the hall monitor's sweater was close but not quite the same as Freddy's sweater. Hated that her arms were entirely red. But it just dawned on me, after watching the reaction, that her sweater is prolly closer to Fred's than I anticipated lol. Might be exact even.
You know the inside of Laurie house in the orginal Halloween is the same inside of the Nightmare house . The outside and inside of the Nightmare house are 2 different places
IIRC, the "pimple" is a cyst Heather Langenkamp would get lanced after the movie. Also in Craven's original script Fred Krueger was a "p-word". But the studio wanted it changed.
I look forward in particular to your reaction to ANOES 3. As much as i love this one, 3 is my favourite. I love all the movies except for 2 and the 2010 remake, i'm also not a big fan of Freddy Vs Jason.
The first film I saw in the series was the 3rd one.I was quite young and scared, watching it on tv, so I went in the kitchen and asked my older cousin if she would watch it with me lol
I think you should react to the Phantasm movies. I feel that this franchise was kinda inspired by the Phantasm franchise. The show supernatural was also wildly inspired by Phantasm
Sleepy Sidney is back !!! This was a fun treat to start a new year on. Since this was an "old" upload and you had issues right from the start does that mean you won't be doing the whole series ?
What the heck! I check your channel constantly as I do every other channel I'm subscribed to. And yesterday this video pops up and it says posted 3 weeks ago! Your Barbarian interview was the most recent video til yesterday. Has my app been lying to me or was the video claimed by somebody and taken down or something? I feel like this happens on a lot of channels where a video wasn't listed and suddenly shows up saying days ago it came out. I'm not mad at you or anything, I'm just annoyed by TH-cam for this kind of stuff for me as a user, and also on behalf of creators like you. Haha thank you! I just posted my reaction to Nightmare on Elm Street 2 as well! Not sure why it wasn’t showing up for you?! Hope that’s not happening to a lot of people, that sucks
I think it is called a cultivator, but they are rarely useful. They come in the sets of garden shovels, but I don't use mine. It only seems to work in fluffy fresh potting soil.
my experience with the remake was the guy playing Freddy (Jackie Earle Haley from Watchmen) was pretty good, but the movie itself was dull, bland, and didn't do anything new.
Can’t wait for you to react to Wes Craven’s New Nightmare & Freddy Vs Jason specifically. Although Freddy Vs Jason has a homophobic slur made by one of the main characters, besides that & the on set drama I love the film
This concept is also great, because people are likely to have nightmares of scary things they watched, so having an actual nightmare with Freddy in it.. yikes
Yeah , I didn’t see the point of filming a reaction to a movie I’ve seen but since I love this movie so much thought it’d be fun. Especially since I haven’t seen the other films yet.
