    In a 2010 NOES documentary (Never Sleep Again), Wes Craven tells a story about how they were unable to make the kid cry, take after take. At one point, the father approaches Craven: "If it helps, we have a thing to make him cry, although we don't like to do it too often...". Craven agrees. The mother leaves the room and the father tells the kid: "Miko, your mother is dead." Boom. While the kid is crying, Craven acts quickly: "Camera rolls ! Action!". In the documentary, Craven chuckles with a bit of shame at that point, but Miko acknowledges he was not traumatized by the event because his mother immediately came back with a Happy Meal. He explains: "My mom was alive. I got a free Happy Meal. So I was fine."

    Freddy looks different because it's not Freddy. It's a demon who took the shape of the Freddy Krueger's character. Which makes the film even more bizarre.

  • @ethanself2667
    @ethanself2667 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    A lot of the film is based off real life. Wes said the talk show with kids dressed as Freddy is based on an actual experience he had with Robert on a talk show I believe. Heather in real life was also actually harassed by a crazy stalker as well. And the Earthquake (which was already written in the script) actually happened and was one of the worst in California history. So the damage is real. Freddy’s reduced screentime is going back to the original roots by focusing more on the characters and developing them. And Freddy’s appearance is based more on his original design and attempts to make him different as this is the “Real” Freddy. Craven would later say he wasn’t sure if that was the right idea

  • @ethanself2667
    @ethanself2667 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The idea of the film is that it’s a movie within a movie within a movie. You’re watching the film made based off the movie that Heather is forced to play based of Wes’s Script! It’s so meta haha. Also, Wes isn’t really the villain within the story. The Freddy in the film is an ancient evil entity that has been around for thousands of years (which is why it’s lair looks like Ancient Rome) and it’s evil essence can be captured in stories like Hansel and Gretel (The witch has red and green). The entity was captured as Freddy in the original film but when they killed Freddy off in Freddy’s Dead, it was set free and is coming into reality to get everyone who made the films. So Wes is writing the script (based off Nightmares) of what the entity is doing and trying to capture it in another film to stop it.

    I know I'm a little late to the party and plenty of good stuff has already been said, so, I'll just add my 2 cents. Freddy's look, as far as being changed from burned to ripped up: it's more of a symbolized tone of a demon trying to burst through into the real world. Freddy's look is that of a man being ripped apart by the emergence of that demon.

  • @garrywalker007
    @garrywalker007 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Great reaction as always!. I think I'm one of the few that really liked this new Freddy look, yeah it wasn't the "real" Freddy just a demon in Freddy form but I still think it looked great. I also loved the weird, surreal feel of it, there's something about the call backs mixed with the "real life" aspects that become more and more prominent as it goes on that I found really exciting. Dream Warriors is still my favourite, followed by the first then this one.

    Idk if you’ve ever seen the Phantasm franchise but I think you’d like it if you someday decide to react to it somehow. The first movie inspired so many other works from A Nightmare On Elm Street to Supernatural (the cw show) to The Black Phone because of so many similar scenes. It also started the dream sequence trope/trend in horror.

    Heather revealed some time ago that she is interested in returning to play Nancy in a possible new film about Elm street, but the character died in the third film and besides, the rights of the franchise are in the hands of the Craven family! I find it very difficult to create new films of the saga in these current times! wes craven died a long time ago, and he was the only person who knew how to make an excellent horror film with Freddy Krueger, I don't see anyone else with great vision to create excellent scripts for new stories.

    There is a fan theory known as the Beautiful Dream theory that turns the orignal, Dream Warriors and New Nightmare into a trilogy. If you remember at the end of Dream Warriors, Kristen promised to put Nancy into a beautiful dream forever. Well, what better dream for Nancy than a world where she is a famous Hollywood actress and Freddy is nothing more than a character in one of her movies. But Freddy somehow infiltrates her beautiful dream in New Nightmare. A fun little idea.

  • @LordofFullmetal
    @LordofFullmetal ปีที่แล้ว

    Fun fact: the footage on Heather's tv of the earthquake in the film is apparently footage of a REAL earthquake that happened only a couple weeks before filming started.
    Also I feel like it's important to understand that this film is more like Scream than the original Nightmare. I feel like you maybe missed the point that it's not actually Freddy. It's a demon from thousands of years ago that has taken the form of Freddy, because for the last ten years Freddy has been the most common depiction of evil. So the pillars and paintings are not actually supposed to be a Freddy thing. They're supposed to represent that this demon has been around about as long as humanity has. Because the demon itself is a metaphor - it represents the darkness inside humanity ourselves.

    I really enjoyed your reaction to this and was quite hyped to see it! Unpopular opinion, but not only is this my favorite Nightmare film but it’s my favorite Scary Movie. I think it’s Wes’s best film too. More meta and mature than Scream
    In my humble opinion. And I think it builds on what Wes did in the original but shows his maturity as filmmaker. I love the commentary about horror films and the affect they have on the audience and the people who make them. And I love how he ties moviemaking to classic storytelling. He shows how these stories help release and exorcise demons and by destroying them or cancelling them causes mayhem. It’s so brilliant. I think this is Heathers best performance in the series too and I find Freddy really really scary in this film. It’s the only sequel where I feel like this is the same Freddy from the original. I also think moments like the cops telling Heather her husband died or Dylan trying to reach god as very profound, moving, and disturbing. Don't know what you plan to watch next after you're done with the elm street series? But if I could make the choice as to what the next franchise would be I would choose the Toho Showa Universe, I would love to see you tackle Godzilla and other monsters within that franchise.
    I believe I've said it before that it would maybe be best to just break all 30 movies into trilogies if you want to watch other films in between the franchise just to keep it fresh' but if you think you can handle all 30 then that's cool by me!
    Not all of them have giant monsters in it' there is other stuff that it offers within the series to keep it different enough so you don't get bored, but anyway I will just write down the first three like last time in hopes that this might be the next one you watch?
    So here is the list of the first three out of thirty which are:

    I remember when this came out, I was 16 at the time, and was stoked since I had grown up on these movies. At first I was a little unsure of the more demonic Freddy look versus the movie Freddy but ended up loving it as I understood the movie more. I will say that I do agree, the line delivery (I hate to say mostly by Heather/Nancy), some of the pacing and general feel to the movie wasn't the best but I also wonder how hard it is for an actor to act "normal" for a character that plays a character. I will say that I did notice actor chemistry wasn't always the best is some 90s movies although I think some of the best movies came out during that decade, but these actors are much more of a horror movie actor and films such as this can be a bit of a transition at times, although I think Robert did a pretty good job. I think it was a nice way to wrap up the series though, granted they did a reboot years later that was just okay.

    So I am little late. His look they just wanted to update it and with the demon wanted it to look like Freddy but same time not. Wes Craven wasn't writing and it was happening. He was dreaming and writing what he dreams. That's why was taking him so long to write the script. Last not many cover it (like you said Robert was having the dreams too which I wish we would of saw his side too) I think he became Freddy. At beginning when Chase is looking at the glove there is a prob of Freddy and another guys heads merging. One other thing is Julie the babysitter they said there was an early script that had her as the stalker, even the person that was calling her on the phone but that got scrapped. I do wish this morning had more dream stuff. Oh and last thing at the funeral there are lots of people from the movies. John Sax, Robert, Tina's boyfriend, Tuesday Knight from the 4th movie. Last there is a fan film, Dylan's new nightmare. They said they got the same actor, it's a long the lines of like the TV show and worth a watch. Also in fan film they took 3 nightmare songs and combine them into one which was interesting.

    A voice actor/youtuber named Dave McRae is coming out with a fanfilm sequel to this movie with the original kid actor coming back to reprise Dylan in DYLAN'S NIGHTMARE. Movie will be on his TH-cam channel 😁 I can't wait for this famfilm because I love this movie. After ALL the sequels, this movie was refreshing when I watched them all in order as a kid. Part 2, Dream Warriors and this one has stuck with me the most and always gets replayed at Halloween 😁😇 Obviously Wes Craven perfected the Meta aspect in Scream because Shocker to me is terrible 🤣🤣🤣

    It's a movie within a movie. .
    Everyone is playing a FICTIONALIZED version of themselves .
    Miko ( the little boy Dylan) has his own issues from watching Freddy .
    The point of the movie is the effect horror movies have on society and the psyche of actors from the movie.
    In reality Heather Lamgenkamp was stalked for a period of time after a show she did in 1988 just the 10 of us.
    She was so afraid she moved out of the country for a while..
    Imagine being part of such a groundbreaking mirror when you're 20 years old and that role is what you are indentified with . It never left her
    To answer your question . Yes it's hella meta...

    I was definitely as obsessed as those kids in the audience. I'd make my own glove with butter knives lol. Surprised no one thought I was deranged.
    I think Heather did actually have a stalker irl, but it was grom her Just the Ten of Us fandom, not Nightmare. She also has a husband that does effects.
    I'm surprised by your reaction, but I get your points. I've said before that I'm biased, but usually people love this one.

    Even tho I think it’s it’s a good well made movie I’m never in the mood to rewatch it nor do I think the meta nature worked for Freddy. Thankfully Wes Craven perfected the meta horror with Scream. I don’t remember if you said if you’ve seen all the scream movies but if you haven’t you should do a reaction and if you had to rank the nightmare movies wha would it be?

    • @ScaredPale
      @ScaredPale  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll be doing a nightmare ranking after I finish Freddy vs. Jason and the remake. (Even though those questionably count as part of the series.)
      But I LOVE the scream franchise. The past two I saw in theaters. I’ve seen them all quite a few times :)
      I did an after theatre reaction on my channel after seeing the last one.

  • @m00nwa1ker

    I didn't liked this movie when it came out cause it missing some new and fancy dream sequences a whole bunch were just recycled from older movies except the highway scene and the very last scene. It was missing the freddy humor all the previous movies got cause of course this Freddy was not supposed to be the Robert Englund Freddy. I appreciate this movie a little more today but it's still not in my top 3 of Nightmare on Elm Street movies. I was very surprised when Freddy vs Jason came out and it was such a well made cross over movie, but that one CGI scene was a mess luckily it was short. :D
