You are that comment where someone says something that you have been thinking and feeling for years and you go "you too." Samsies, Great reaction and comment.
The reason for the "soft reboot" is they switched production companies and didn't have the rights to the footage from the first film. So they had to reshoot the events of that one in a concise way. If you just start watching this one as the demon camera is flying towards Ash, it flows almost perfectly with the ending of the first movie.

Linda’s headless corpse busting in with the chainsaw is one of the funniest things ever. My favorite thing about the Deadites is that they have an epic sense of humor.
Essentially, Bruce Campbell has confirmed, several times, that this movie is a sequel since the first 10 minutes is a recap of the first. The movie truly begins with Ash flying through the trees following the ending of the first film where he dies, gets possesed, and resurrected from the sun. The most iconic line in a franchise full of iconic lines. "I'll swallow your soul - swallow this.", "This is my boomstick!", "Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun.", "Name's Ash. Housewares."
The scene with the deer head where Ash goes crazy is one of the most insane things I've ever seen in a film, and I loved every second of it. After everything that's happened, I can't blame him for going nuts.
38:05 In A Nightmare on Elm Street, there's an Evil Dead poster on Nancy's bedroom wall. To return Wes Craven's homage, Freddy's glove is hanging above the shop door behind Ash. Easier to see when he first enters the shop.
22:30 - Roxy's thought bubble: "I have made a grave mistake." My personal favorite of the Evil Dead franchise, good memories of watching this with friends that I love back in the day. Awesome reaction, Scream Queen(R) Shejects™!
It's interesting to hear perspectives from Roxy and Tara who both have backgrounds in film. Discussing camera shots, cuts/edits, story choices, etc. It's neat for someone like me who doesn't necessarily always pay attention to technical aspects of film making.
So, the Necronomicon was first mentioned by HP Lovecraft. He and Robert E Howard, creator of Conan the Barbarian, were good friends which they borrowed from each other where Conan has a run-in with Cthulhu. Then there's Marvel, where in an alternate universe the events of Evil Dead are canon. Furthermore, the Necronomicon is also referred to as the Darkhold. Therefore, Dr Strange, Conan the Barbarian, and Ash could fight Lovectaftian gods.
Loved the reaction! This is one of my favorite franchises. My favorite trivia from this is that Ted Raimi played Henretta. Ted is Sam's brother and a very good character actor as well. The Coen Brothers also worked on this movie. Keep up the great work!
38:40 - Groovy became the most used line of the 80's-90's, right up there with rad! I still use it today ^^ The next movie is my favorite of the Evil Dead movies!
Really? Where? I heard people saying "rad" all the time, (mostly in the '80s) but never heard anyone saying "groovy" in the '80s and '90s (except occasionally boomers and old GenXers, and in that Deee-Lite song, which was a take on '60s music and style). It was mainly a slang used in the '60s and '70s, but goes back further.
Fun Fact: The Evil Dead movies canonically take place in the same universe as Nightmare/Friday films. The Necronomicon makes an appearance in Jason Goes to Hell, the director of that movie even confirms they take place in the same universe and that Jason Voorhees is a Deadite, there's also two official comic book sequels to the Freddy vs. Jason movie (Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash) adapted from an official sequel movie script. Freddy's glove also makes a cameo in the first Evil Dead.
Ash is cured by seeing Linda's pendant not because he was a "special boy" but because he'd previously been possessed but cured by the sunlight, giving him a degree of immunity. If you watch Army of Darkness (and you totally should) it gives an explanation as to the various inconsistencies in the series. "Is he the King now?", oh yes, HAIL TO THE KING BABY!
As a soap girlie, I have to chime in here. Cassie DePaiva is a legend for sure. I loved her as Blair (Todd and Blair supercouple), and yes she played Starr's mother. She also played Blair when they did General Hospital/One Life and AMC/One Life crossovers as all those shows are set in the same universe. I live that Roxy is a fan of the same shows I watched! ABC soaps are the best, but NBC had some gems too.
The problem with everyone trying to let you guys know what's going on with this movie is that, other than the fact most of them are wrong, they're making those comments after you've already seen it. Which is why I did it on the reaction for the first film, because it was more likely you'd be able to catch it shortly after watching the second film. So I'm gonna do that here, too. Army of Darkness was a special case, because unlike Evil Dead 2, they WERE able to use footage from Evil Dead 2 for the recap. And they did use some. Key word being some, as they also completely reshot some stuff, changed Linda's actor for the third consecutive time (or fourth if you count the proof of concept short film 'Within The Woods'). Which leads to some more continuity errors. And, of course, Ash is a slave in the beginning of Army of Darkness, so... Yay? But that obviously wasn't the case at the end of this film. There is an Army of Darkness graphic novel that mixes the two pretty well, but it's not technically canon. But, Army of Darkness is also a story told by Ash to his S-Mart coworkers. So, even if the events he described are basically the same as what actually happened, it doesn't mean they happened the way he described them. Ash likes to embellish. It's in his nature.
I think they film these reactions several weeks in advance, so there's a strong chance they've seen the second one already by the time the first reaction comes out

The first Evil Dead did incredibly well. Even Stephen King praised it which might have helped it a lot too. the camerawork in the Evil Dead movies are beyond amazing! Bruce Campbell is the man and today is the stereotypical uncle-type! Such a lovable and funny guy! And that chin, man!
#3 Army of Darkness is more campy comedy horror with little gore so they could get it down to a R rating ( studio never got the PG13 that they wanted and really should have received ) it is a great sequel. The 3 seasons of Ash Vs Evil Dead are a great combination of gore , horror and comedy, since they could do their thing on cable and not have to worry about , what rating it would be. Bruce Campbell makes these great 🧟♂
There were no alternate options for the "groovy" line. It was in the script. And the stage direction was written as so: "ASH (for no apparent reason): Groovy."
It’s definitely a sequel, not a remake or “soft reboot.” The initial recap of the first film might confuse some viewers, making it feel like a do-over, like déjà vu, but with more chainsaws. Sam Raimi included it because he couldn’t use original footage. After that, the story picks up right where Evil Dead left off. While it has a different tone with more humor, it’s still a continuation of Ash’s journey, think of it as Ash’s vacation gone horribly wrong. Both Raimi and Bruce Campbell have consistently stated that it was always intended as a sequel, not just a “let’s try this again” moment
@@alucard624She'd only recently gotten over some COVID, so maybe there are some lingering effects that she still needed to take something for. Makes sense, yes?
@Tara @Roxy so the reason why this film was kind of like a reboot was because there was a shift in rights after the first film came out and Sam Raimi was totally unable to continue from the first film. He then decided to make a soft reboot and create this film and its sequel. I'm sure there's a bunch of trivia and information about this that you can discover on your own but that's the reason why this is so very different from the first film.
Bruce has gone on to say his dream version of this movie is the first movie and since the ending of the first movie can lead into a portion of the second movie (him being thrown through the woods backwards is in BOTH movies and can be easily mixed thus making the first and second one seamless movie. The ending of this one and the beginning of the third in the series can ALSO be cut up in this way. I have a version of the film that is THREE AND A HALF HOURS long because it mixes Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness into one long movie and it's grand.
The movie officially starts when Ash is picked up and crashes through the trees. Rami was unable to get the rights to use footage from the first film, so they had to re-film a condensed recap.
Ash Vs Evil Dead did a great job of balancing the comedy and horror. Also the tree scene from the 1st movie Sam Rami regretted it so he used the second one to change it.
@@MarioBario Not really that random. Just an out-of-context comment until they watch AoD, then it's one of those "oh, so that's what they meant" moments. Assuming the channel team actually ever read my comment in the first place, of course.
Great reaction. Make surento watch the Theatrical version of Army of Darkness (evil dead 3). It's the best version and canon. Ash vs. Evil Dead follows the theatrical cut.
The beginning of ED II is not considered canon. It was just a way to quickly recap the first movie for people who forgot or didn’t see it, since a few years had passed between films, and a different studio owned the rights to the first one, so they couldn’t reuse footage. Bruce Campbell has said just skip the recap and start at the point where the first left off.

@@MattKayserdon't forget Tommy had the book of the dead in part 6 too
@@dgenerate707 oh shoot, I either didn't know that or straight up forgot.
Sorry for the late comment but this is one of my favorite Horror franchises I’m excited to go on this journey with you Shejects!!
Best Horror Comedy ever! Bruce Campbell is Groovy!
This one was supposed to be more of a dark horror comedy rather than full horror like the first one
I love when she stabs the hillbilly guy, then repeatedly bangs the door on him, before pulling the knife out and shouting at him to be quiet, and then dragging him towards her deadite mother and his death!😂
The Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell colab is such a vibe 😂😂😍😍🔥🔥
The first Evil Dead did incredibly well. Even Stephen King praised it which might have helped it a lot too. the camerawork in the Evil Dead movies are beyond amazing! Bruce Campbell is the man and today is the stereotypical uncle-type! Such a lovable and funny guy! And that chin, man!
17:38 how did you miss the book title? A farewell to arms.
Cause they don't care?
@@afroahmed3989 That and they are not vary bright. Half the time they are talking nonsense and not paying attention or not even looking at the screen.
Groovy will become his catchphrase in every movie after this
Man, Tara is ZOOTED 😂
Phuckin California
ED 3 is more comedic. The reboot (2016) is extremely more scary. Ash vs ED(tv) is more like 2 but much better FX. Loved the reaction ❤
Bruce Campbell makes these great 🧟♂
The reboot is not scary to me. Just over the top bloody. Still question how the heal the made girl gets her tongue healed. 😅
There were no alternate options for the "groovy" line. It was in the script. And the stage direction was written as so:
"ASH (for no apparent reason): Groovy."
Bruce Campbell doing all the slapstick stuff by himself in the first half is hilarious
Greg Nicotero did the makeup and monsters, some of his early work..
Tara is so stoned during this :P
She definitely looked like she was on something throughout the video.
@@alucard624She'd only recently gotten over some COVID, so maybe there are some lingering effects that she still needed to take something for. Makes sense, yes?
@@Robert_Douglasswhat's wrong with her being stoned? No one saying that's a bad thing
Roxy and Tara are amazingly groovy!!! 😂😂😂
❤❤
There are 2 lines/quotes that are iconic to this franchise. One of them is "Groovy". The other is in the next film.
There are several in the next one.
Roxy - If you care about me you'll stop! Also Roxy- PURGE!!!!!
Damn, Roxy has been through the wringer lately... lol, please 🙏 keep it going 😅
For real! Lol
To this day I am STILL going with Groovy
@15:07 I love how Roxy just rattled off the Numbers!
The movie officially starts when Ash is picked up and crashes through the trees. Rami was unable to get the rights to use footage from the first film, so they had to re-film a condensed recap.
the most disturbing part about the eyeball scene is we know she didnt spit it out because they added what sounded like a cartoony swallowing effect.
I can see the merch already Groovy She-Jects with flying eyeballs
Here we are, baby!! More Ash and gore goodness. You both brighten up my day. Thank you. ❤
Love this
Watching you two react to this is like watching two people doped up on Valium watch something.......
If the words " unbotherd " and " not interested" were two people.
Tara just recovered from being sick and Roxy was tired. They were not uninterested
Ash Vs Evil Dead did a great job of balancing the comedy and horror.
Also the tree scene from the 1st movie Sam Rami regretted it so he used the second one to change it.
Groovy.
Y'all missed the Farewell to Arms joke. The book on top of the cut off hand was the book Farewell to Arms
When he mentions the word groovy is so iconic for that era
Tara rewarded me with another moment I want on constant loop at 22:28
Groovy is fucking iconic lol
💯
What's your FAVORITE Evil Dead II gag??
Absolutely dead by dawn 😭
Still love the getting ready scene, where he preps the chainsaw and shotgun for a trip into the cellar. It's just so....GROOVY!
(hand gets caught in moustrap)
Ash: "AHA!"
Hand: 🖕🏻
Ash: "You little sonuva . . . !"
Love when the possessed hand drags Ash around and hits him over the head with everything and anything.
"I'll swallow your soul!"
"Swallow this."
LOVE
This was not meant to be taken seriously. It's more of a comedy than the first one. You'll understand when you watch Army of Darkness.
These two dont understand anything.

Quoting army of darkness during evil dead 2?... random
@@MarioBario Not really that random. Just an out-of-context comment until they watch AoD, then it's one of those "oh, so that's what they meant" moments. Assuming the channel team actually ever read my comment in the first place, of course.
Shejects, keep rolling! You got some fun stuff coming up. I can't wait.
Roxy’s look is giving Jenna Marbles
I get that sometimes!
I’m so glad they’re finally doing these! Please do the show (Greg)!!
You have to watch this one knowing it’s going for jokes while also being absolutely morbid.
SHEJECCCCCCTS!!!! love the fit tara!
One of my favorite movies of all time. It's so out there and over the top, but in the best way possible.
