You're wrong, the game I guess being "bland" is an intentional choice. The reason they didn't have original characters is because the game was focusing on paper and non paper counterparts, which meant using characters and enemies that existed in both universes, kinda locking them to the main set of Mario enemies and characters and such. A potential red flag i saw in the trailer was how a few of the puzzles seem to be just leaving Luigi somwhere to hit a button while Mario explores. I REALLY hope that isn't the case.
@@ThatGuyWhoGamesAgree. Luigi deserves his great moments like in every other M&L game. In SS he went to get the cure for Mario's illness, in Dreamteam we were able to save all the Pi'illo and defeat Antasma because of Luigi opening up the portal to Dream World for us the access it. And Dream Luigi did have tons of heroic moments too (like all those Giga Boss fights).
Even if this is somehow a bad game, I still love it with all my heart because it's new. I love all of them especially dreamteam and paper jam because they made my childhood.
I could be wrong here, so correct me if I am, but isn't it possible that Alphadream's problems with low income started earlier than you're proposing? I think that they had issues with revenue BEFORE the remakes. 1. They reused assets from Dream Team for both remakes. When comparing a remake to a whole new game with how much art needs to be created, a remake would be a lot more viable if their budget was thinner than they would have liked. 2. They stuck with the 3DS rather than using the Switch. Learning a whole new console's mechanics takes time, and time is money when it comes to ANY company, which is something that, again, Alphadream could have been having issues with at the time. Sure they could've ported things over to the Switch, but why spend the money to do that when everything was already right there on the 3DS. When I think of it like this, it just makes sense why Alphadream made remakes instead of new games, it's because they LITERALLY couldn't. They still put their hat in the ring, they still tried to stay afloat with what they could do, but in the end it didn't work, and thus they had to file for bankruptcy. I have high hopes for Brothership, but I get the doubt some are having, because it isn't the same baseline, but as the saying goes "You never know unless you try it". That's both for myself and everyone else, it's fine if you are holding back or if you're all in, but just in case, keep your expectations on the fence, try not to lean fully to one side or the other. Thank you for your time, I hope you enjoyed my Ted Talk.
I saw at some point somebody said AlphaDream was way in debt even when trying to make Dream Team, and that’s why Nintendo never bought them out to secure them as a first-party developer. It makes sense considering the drastic shift in development the new system and art style required. Even just switching to 3D environments probably forced them to expand faster than they had the money to.
i bought and tried paper jam, and i never got past the opening stuff, it just felt slow and annoying, i hope this game will be better. also love your videos dude, keep up the good work!
The remakes addressed Dream Team's text problem by making the tutorials skippable and the writing was pretty snappy in the otherwise lame RTS side modes, so I don't think dialogue will retread Dream Team's problems.
Honestly didnt expect the video to be this funny lol, well made! I will say that PJ onwards they did learn from DT's dialogue mistakes so I think that won't be an issue.
Yeah but Paper Jam had a weird Luigi hate theme always dogging on him whenever they could, something I could’ve mentioned since that’s more of quality of writing rather than quantity
@@ThatGuyWhoGames fair, I will say though that despite my issues with them, the remake side modes have a lot more heart than Paper Jam's soulless ass. I cant speak on if the writing is bloated or not tho since I've just watched bits of it on TH-cam, since I couldnt make it through the uh... "gameplay"
I think it's gonna beat out Bowser's Inside Story for me. I missed the cool Bros attacks from Superstar Saga where they actually used each other to attack, instead of weird items. The bros attacks in Bowser's Inside Story are fun (Snack Basket >:)) but I like the teamwork aspect of using their hammers to and jumps to help each other. And that seems to be returning.
I agree with that, it always made sense that they would attacked based on moves taught to them rather than finding puzzle pieces in the wild. I also never minded Partners in Times buying of Bros. attacks since it made coins much more valuable
Agree. It's what I also liked about Dreamteams Dream attacks, since most of them were moves the Dream Luigis used outside of battle as well. And it's so cool to get the real bros attacks back. (Even though it seems like the Red Shell bros attack from Dreamteam makes a return)
This is my first video I’ve watched by you, can’t help but subscribe! My expectations are going to be way too high for Brothership. It just looks too perfect. I hope.
I think it’s also worth mentioning how the game could also be amazing. The points you made don’t perfectly support how the game could be disappointing. Yes, of course it can be disappointing, but it can also be amazing. When we know so little about a game, you can’t really make a strong argument on that and it solely depends on what you believe the game will turn out to be before it releases. Have faith.
The quality of your vids are INSANE I was genuinely surprised at your sub count ( not that it’s bad) I just thought to see like a mil or two at worst in like the double digits, cus your very funny and lowkey hella attractive
things that I think can ruin the game 1)story and plot, story and ploy seems to be very basic in this game 2) if the characters are nerfed too much and the character's powerscaling is greatly weakened 3) Lazily written villains, the villains of the new game seem very badly written (they seem to be getting weaker)
The power is such a big thing for me Like the Mario rpg remake felt so easy (except the boss rematches) to go through I just wish they would build in a "hard difficulty" for advanced players seeking a challange
I actually enjoyed paper jam, so even if brothership isnt as good as we think it will, i am sure at least i will enjoy it. Also Dream team is my favorite.
I want to love Dream Team so bad but I can't even get around to finishing it, the game gets very hard to get through for me because of the amount of exposition given to player at any given time and when I leave for long periods and try to return I get lost in my place and don't know where to go. Restarting is also VERY hard to get through with how long it takes to get the game going. I think it has amazing ideas and tried to do something new but reasons I state in the video and here are why I'm not the biggest fan personally even though I really want to be
Just your average critic-tuber posting a "Why [insert new recently announced game] could disappoint / be bad" just for the sake of making up controversy. You're basically reviewing a new game according to previous games' flaws (like they're worse than they really are...) when the trailer already disproved you. Toxic fan alert, just play the game and be happy.
God, I hope Mario And Luigi Brother Ship doesn't suck ass. The only thing I'm worried about Mario and Luigi Brother Ship is who's developing the game. We know that because Alpha Dream went bankrupt for reasons. God, I hope it's the ex-employees of Alpha Dream that's working on Mario and Luigi Brother Ship. Also, have you played or heard of Stellar Blade?
Great video and Great points abount how the new mario and luigi game could turn out. I think it would be really cool if you would make a video on sonic and all star racing transformed
I don't think it's far to judge the new M&L game based off the quality of the last original game in the series as it's not always indicative of the quality of the new release. I think back to HAL, the current Kirby devs that went from a well received game (planet robobot) to a poorly received game (star Allies, arguably one of the worst Kirby games in the modern era) but they were able to bounce back with The forgotten land, which is considered one of the best games in the series. I think whoever is developing the new game is able to do the same, especially considering how there's most likely a lot of new staff for this game as well. Also the fact that this game seemingly takes place in a new location with original characters, antagonists and so on a long with a new animation style gives me so much hope.
The more I see of it the more I get excited for it, i definitely made this video in a darker headspace but I also like to offer different perspectives on things, I think I need to try and be more positive towards negative reception rather then negative to positive reception going forward
First time seeing your videos, and i really like it! I love your speculation on things, i see brothership in a more optimistic way, since yeah, the 2 latest original games of the series we're kinda meh, this one looks promising, with this new art style but still keeping how expressive we're mario and luigi back then, and plug-based characters, it seems to be a really fun experience, keep the great work!!!
Similar but not the exact same, the differences were noticeable enough to not see each one as the same, besides characters UI elements were also very different across each game and the soundtracks would vary in composition and sound quality, overall the series was always evolving its style until dream tread and for me that was part of its charm
I will try my best to get it out soon, I make the mistake of not preparing that for when the video releases, after listening to it I want to re mix it and make sure it sounds good for streaming but don’t worry it is coming ❤️
I get where you’re coming from, but this video is coming from a place where they’ve been burnt one too many times from previous Mario RPG releases, I can relate to how they feel. It’s fine to be positive, but that just means this video isn’t for you then.
@@Lando.Comics Totally agree. Dream Team was awesome. I really liked the Dream World angle. The soundtrack was peak and by far the best in the series (next to Superstar Saga). And the Original Chracaters like the Pi'illos were nice too.

the Japanese name of the series will eventually be changed to remove the rpg part of the name and it will move far away from being an rpg and become a puzzle platformer going forward
I hope i didn't ruin any hype, I see a lot people saying I was very negative and I tried to address that because I'm also very excited for the game I just remember what the 2010's were like and how disappointing it got with each new Mario RPG release. Origami King is very creative, but I think in a way it's poorly designed since battles have no reason to be done, you learn nothing from them to beat the bosses since boss fights are completely different and you gain nothing from doing the smaller normal fights, it's a turn base battle just for the sake of it when it could've been something more useful for the player. The mandate was always rumored to exist and while I don't think it happened you can't deny that it seemed like every Mario series was sticking to a style sheet, why would the Mario and Luigi series of all things strip itself of original characters?? It's been confirmed that the mandate never existed and it was a miscommunication and I should've included that in the video. However I stand by my opinions, you don't have to agree and what I'm saying is all speculation I just thought it was interesting to talk about, you're more than welcome to disagree with me I'm always happy to discuss.
fr tho i have only 3 issues with the new game and theyre so nit picky it hurts 1- textures look just a little too low res tho that might just be youtube compression 2- the composer may not be yoko shimamura, if this is true then this is by default the weakest ost since she composed the entire series 3- i hate the fucking boxart, instead of having a hand drawn 2d one like strikers and the past games they just posed the renders thats about it really, im really excited for this game
I kinda get your worries on point 2, but even if yoko it's not there to compose the ost, i think it's kinda shitty to say that "it will be the weakest just because certain person will not compose for this one" not allowing this hipotetically new composer a chance, because in the trailer, the music actually sounds really good! In point 3...eh???....i kinda get it but it's still a really personal-pick, i actually liked the box art and it looks really nice

I'm not worried in the slightest 😂 As a huge fan of this series, I'm so happy we're getting a new game.
My jaw was on the floor when it was the first announcement, no matter what it’s a day one purchase from me
I could be wrong here, so correct me if I am, but isn't it possible that Alphadream's problems with low income started earlier than you're proposing?
I'm praying Nintendo takes a hint from this game and TTYD's sales but they tend to not be smart enough for that.
Surely there are more ways to make content other than constantly assuming the worst case scenario for games that havent even come out yet...
I’m working on it
Ironically, I rewatched the Mario and Luigi series video before and now it's all fresh, happy to see more Tom action in this week!!!!
Felt appropriate I talk about this series again with a better haircut
This is my first video I’ve watched by you, can’t help but subscribe!
My expectations are going to be way too high for Brothership. It just looks too perfect. I hope.
Someone recommended me your channel and I love this so far, here's a subscribe
I think it’s also worth mentioning how the game could also be amazing. The points you made don’t perfectly support how the game could be disappointing. Yes, of course it can be disappointing, but it can also be amazing. When we know so little about a game, you can’t really make a strong argument on that and it solely depends on what you believe the game will turn out to be before it releases. Have faith.
The quality of your vids are INSANE I was genuinely surprised at your sub count ( not that it’s bad) I just thought to see like a mil or two at worst in like the double digits, cus your very funny and lowkey hella attractive
"Mario and Luigi Brothership could be bad."
*Radiance starts playing in the background*
Wha.. What intense editing I thought you had 800k subs you certainly deserve it actual passion and effort subbed.
This channel is crminally underrated, very nice stuff my dude!
things that I think can ruin the game
1)story and plot, story and ploy seems to be very basic in this game
2) if the characters are nerfed too much and the character's powerscaling is greatly weakened
3) Lazily written villains, the villains of the new game seem very badly written
(they seem to be getting weaker)
The power is such a big thing for me
Like the Mario rpg remake felt so easy (except the boss rematches) to go through
I just wish they would build in a "hard difficulty" for advanced players seeking a challange
@@miguelcrafter2997 yeah, it would be nice if the villains in the game became more difficult, but a new platform would be nice
I think it has amazing ideas and tried to do something new but reasons I state in the video and here are why I'm not the biggest fan personally even though I really want to be
kinda funny how the moment the console rpg series hit handheld everything went to shit
Sticker Star is my least favorite game and I can talk for hours on why that is
I'm just gonna ignore what you say and wait for the game to release
Just your average critic-tuber posting a "Why [insert new recently announced game] could disappoint / be bad" just for the sake of making up controversy. You're basically reviewing a new game according to previous games' flaws (like they're worse than they really are...) when the trailer already disproved you. Toxic fan alert, just play the game and be happy.
the lack of views is criminal 😭, there might be something wrong with this channel bc your videos aren't getting shown at all
Seriously his videos are punching waaay above his weight in terms of subs and views. The algorithm doin him dirty
I have heard of it but I have yet to play it
Its been confirmed that devs from the other mario and luigi games are back developing this game

The game didnt release yet calm down lmao
Mario and luigi brothership will be fine it looks like a very good game and the awsome new bro moves
The more I see of it the more I get excited for it, i definitely made this video in a darker headspace but I also like to offer different perspectives on things, I think I need to try and be more positive towards negative reception rather then negative to positive reception going forward
Thanks for the video ❤ you’re becoming one of my favorites easily.
1 Superstar saga
2 Bowser's inside Story
3 Partners in time
4 Dream team
5 Paper jam
Switch Dream Team and Partners
Presentation/Visual-Style wise, yep, it looks like the complete opposite to Paper Jam. Fix the pacing from DreamTeam and all will be fine.
I love the expressiveness of the Mario and Luigi models
6:00 im quite confused
didnt the gba and ds games have similar styles, specially ds?
Similar but not the exact same, the differences were noticeable enough to not see each one as the same, besides characters UI elements were also very different across each game and the soundtracks would vary in composition and sound quality, overall the series was always evolving its style until dream tread and for me that was part of its charm
5:56 “same kinda soundtrack” you mean peak video game music? Yea they dont have to change that up in my opinion lmao
This video is AMAZING!! How do you ohtdo yourself everytime, Tom?!
Dude im so glad i found your channel. You have a really good sesne of humour. Subbed :))
I hope not, I love Mario and Luigi
The good ending
Could ypu release your super paper mario song
I will try my best to get it out soon, I make the mistake of not preparing that for when the video releases, after listening to it I want to re mix it and make sure it sounds good for streaming but don’t worry it is coming ❤️
Lame, show some positivity. We can discuss all day why something CAN be bad or good, just try and bring some joy to the world, damn
I get where you’re coming from, but this video is coming from a place where they’ve been burnt one too many times from previous Mario RPG releases, I can relate to how they feel.
It’s fine to be positive, but that just means this video isn’t for you then.
Everything after Bowser’s Inside Story was so mid that I hope they aren’t canon and that Brothership is the one true sequel to BIS.
I'm gonna pretend like you said everything after Dream Team was mid considering that ones the best in the entire franchise
@@Lando.Comics Totally agree. Dream Team was awesome. I really liked the Dream World angle. The soundtrack was peak and by far the best in the series (next to Superstar Saga). And the Original Chracaters like the Pi'illos were nice too.
@@Lando.ComicsDream Team isn’t my favorite but I highly respect everyone who says it’s the best. That game is soooo good (just like every game in this series)

Well you actually made me think so this video was good.
I hope i didn't ruin any hype, I see a lot people saying I was very negative and I tried to address that because I'm also very excited for the game I just remember what the 2010's were like and how disappointing it got with each new Mario RPG release. It's my favorite genre from the Mario series so I tend to get neverous when a new one releases.
gambling actually works lol
How did you even get any likes for this?? Lol, YT. We haven't got a M&L game in donkey's years, and the one We saw just last month easily looks like the Best of them ever from that short trailer alone with arguably the best art-style ever. Whoever commissioned that was a genius!
Yet here you are , spreading -veity and ill opinions. Game will probably outsell all the others by 3 fold too. Hah!
Oh joy you one of those guys who actually believes that Mario mandate nonsense and say that games origami king is not creative or fun and that ttyd is the future of the series while completely ignoring the great success of origami king sales and the fact that it has a lot of fans.....yeah no you're opinion means nothing now
Origami King is very creative, but I think in a way it's poorly designed since battles have no reason to be done, you learn nothing from them to beat the bosses since boss fights are completely different and you gain nothing from doing the smaller normal fights, it's a turn base battle just for the sake of it when it could've been something more useful for the player.
I am indeed an Origami King fan. It’s the best paper Mario game!
fr tho i have only 3 issues with the new game and theyre so nit picky it hurts
1- textures look just a little too low res tho that might just be youtube compression
2- the composer may not be yoko shimamura, if this is true then this is by default the weakest ost since she composed the entire series
3- i hate the fucking boxart, instead of having a hand drawn 2d one like strikers and the past games they just posed the renders
thats about it really, im really excited for this game
YOKO SHIMAMURA MIGHT NOT RETURN WHAT
@@ThatGuyWhoGames its not confirmed, if she didnt return that would be baffling because they got her for sparks of hope and rpg remake
Number 3 disgusted me so much when i learned about it and I almost threw up.
@@Esteban_Bolert if the first song in trailer is the main theme (title theme) then yeah thats defiantly the weakest one in the series yet, all the other ones have a very distinct melody and feel, this one just feels like cascade kingdom, i cant really remember its melody
