It's just interesting to think how this game is some kid's first Mario & Luigi game, *this* is what they're going to be nostalgic for in 10-15 years... From the sounds of things, seems like it's not a bad place for them to start, and I'm really glad that NIntendo decided it was worth reviving this series for the new generation. Here's hoping this won't be the end!
I love all the points you made about this game, especially that you brought up the choices you get to make multiple times throughout that directly impact the story and add replayability. Most reviewers of Brothership seem to have glossed over this and disregard it altogether. That being said, another noteworthy thing you didn't mention, are the countless instances of fanservice and the way the game pays a wonderful homage to the entire Mario and Luigi series as a whole. This includes returning bros attacks, bros moves, animations, returning enemies such as Sharkbones from Superstar saga, reefs of characters in previous games such as Broque Monsieur, Prince Peasley, the Shroobs, and more. Even references to other games such as New Super Mario bros Wii are made with the return of the Ice Flower after almost 12 years, its last appearance having been in New Super Mario Bros U. Witty dialogue is also spoken to reference the names of previous games in the series, even including Paper Jam. It's absolutely commendable how many references there are sprinkled throughout and it feels as if the game was made with so much love and care for the fans. I think this alone, as well as the amazing battle system and a touching story revolving around the theme of connections makes Brothership hands down one of the best Mario RPGs of all time.
I don't get how people complain about the tutorials when the tutorials are the quickest they've ever been in the series. You can get through the tutorial faster than you can complain about it.
There's just a lot of them and a lot of the time they are explained more than once which makes it repetitive no matter how fast you can get through them.
@@ThatGuyWhoGames well, at least most of the battle tutorials are JUST easily skippable pop-up's, instead of Toadsworth walking up to you, asking if you know how to battle, then freezing the game right before you're about to jump on the enemy so he can say "Hey, y'know you can press A right now to do more damage, right?" then asking if you know how to dodge, then asking if you know how to counter, and THEN explaining how the level up system works, so while there may be quite a lot of them, at LEAST most of them are faster to get through than other games
The thing about it for me is that the game using 3D models to resemble the art style was bound to happen one way or another as Dream Team and Paper Jam had utilised them before so it doesn’t come as much as a surprise and I think that it is a much more cost effective way of making new animations for the characters. At the same time however, I think that would have been interesting if they used the sprites that AlphaDream made for the 3DS titles and continue with the thing of having the sprites move around the 3D backgrounds but with the backgrounds being detailed, bit like The Peanuts Movie.
I enoyed the first 3 hours, the combat was very simple but the exploration and meeting new characters was worth it. Yep, tutorials felt excessive, but not as excessive as Dream Team. I can even argue that tutorials were less annoying here than in Origami King.
Well, personally, the beginning being slow was my only major complaint about the game. After getting past the first handful of hours, it gets way better, and I honestly think that it reaches unprecedented heights in certain aspects. Also, those first few hours can be sped up quite a bit by using the fast forward feature, which is greatly appreciated. Playing through the game again, I could reach the point of getting the first bros moves after a couple hours, rather than 3-4. Yeah, I could nitpick a bunch of other minor flaws like the loading screens, performance issues, slightly less bosses than usual, lack of a postgame, etc. However, at the end of the day, you can tell that they cared a lot about this game and did everything they could to make it a strong return, even if there may have been some mistakes along the way. It's honestly quite a shame when people decide to just bail after the first few hours, because it means they're missing out.
The game for me was a mixed bag, there’s a lot about it I loved most in the series, and there’s things where I found the other entires did better. If we do get another entry, I’d love to see them improve on the games only downsides, because this games upsides are so unforgettable, and truly make the overall experience great.
Hoping the Switch 2 can handle the game better and have very slow wait times. I'd love if entering and exiting battles were almost instant. I also wish animations in battle were quicker. Maybe give a hard mode option so that standard attacks are quicker and tighter. And just let us fast forward bros attacks during the big finish. Also, I would like to be able to cancel an attack after doing enough damage to kill the enemies I'm attacking. What Brothership lacks is flow. Add that flow in, and the game would be so much more fun. Still love the game, but those little things could improve it so much.
It's mostly the due cause of unrealengine that can't handle the switch stable framerates. Yes, the engine is the issue of why load times take ages to happen when you start a new battle. I Hope You Understand 8:45
I do understand, and I’ve always know these problems came from unreal engine just never knew enough specifics to explain it. Unreal engine has shown a lot of jank within the newer releases of games, silent hill 2 was full of it and that ran on everything :(
Well, IGN once in a while may be right, Im deeply disappointed it didn't fix, but maintained, the worst thing about Dream Team: It's pacing and tutorial hell (at the beginning)
Yeah has someone who grew up with the series I’m glad it’s back and lives up to the hype… it’s the best game since bowser’s inside story(I like dream team but way too slow) I hope the next game has wario and waluigi in it… so it can spice up the game play
Genuinely get so comfused about how bad this game is like people say. It's fresh, and quite innovative for the modern audience, I'll say that, and there is no problem with that.
really the whole thing? Because It's been growing on me more and more. I will always say the first 3 games are peak but this one feels like what the fourth entry should've been
@@ThatGuyWhoGames I started liking it after the first boss fight to unlocking the second lighthouse but after it I just felt like it was trying fill up time (and I liked all 5 of the games)
@@wyattscates7303 Kind of curious what you mean when you say it's just trying to fill up time. For me, it really was just the beginning where it felt like the game was meandering. I think it just gets better and better from there.

Love it or hate it, I'm still glad it exists, the next Mario and Luigi must fix the pacing issues of Brothership.

Great vid! Picking the game up for Christmas, I’m a little concerned but I’m hoping I enjoy it
It will grow on you as you play, the game while having pacing issues does have excellent writing and gameplay

I love the life out of this game but MAN it’s begging for that switch 2 YESTERDAY.
I mean those new leaks seemed convincing 👀👀👀

true slow start is fine for games after doing the first boss few bosses the speed up feature amazing
The whole battle loading thing kinda caused me to not want to fight every enemy I see, which I did in partners in time and superstar saga.
Nothing can give me more PTSD this Christmas than the eerie Christmas theme of holli jolli village from partners in time… …
One of the main flaws is Starlow being in it. The fact she’s barely there makes up for it. She’s overstayed her welcome at this point.
true and snoutlet respects luigi alot and mario
Agreed, but imo, I think that Starlow was there as a cameo from past Mario & Luigi titles.
Hope she is in the next game and bullies Luigi even more🙏, they neutered my girl

P3 REFERENCE!?
I don't think dream tame had long loding between battles. They were buliding up to said battles
Did you end up finishing the game?
I am working on it!

Yup, I sure hope the next Mario and Luigi game doesn't have a exposition hell. Overall 7/10
Crashout
I actually haven't played brothership. I feel like this has been a rather lackluster for switch. Especially since the 3ds had a big fan resurgence.
Remove the first sea and the game is amazing
I fell off after about 12-15 hours. IT was super fun, but it was the same thing over and over for that 15 hours.
I’m glad people can have fun with brothership, but after playing all of it it was disappointing and I wanted to play the old games again
