19:47 - the observable universe is 93 billion (9.3x10^9) light years across. That means poop bucket is traversing approximately 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 observable universes... per second. Assuming there's an average 397g of daily poo in the bucket (I've got that in my search history now, thanks, TA) the relativistic energy of this bucket would be equivalent to 1.87x10^76 eV or about 3 x10^57 watt-seconds. This is equivalent to the total output of 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 suns.
When he said that speed, I was curious, thanks for doing the math, it's such an obscene ridiculous concept. I wonder if the fact that we can simulate that concept in a game has any merits elsewhere.. but probably just a poop bucket making infinities
9:08 the reason is known, it's caused by accidentally giving the prop vehicle physics, but most props don't have the right weight which causes them to have this strange noclip like effect, when the player makes contact with the prop they get vehicle physics as well and that's what leads them to fly, the reason that specific vehicle counts is because it's actually cut content from the game! the combine were originally supposed to drive around in these acp's and tanks but it was eventually scrapped. the vehicle still seems to have some remnants of code though
Oh! Does this explain the "poop bucket flying off into space" bug? Because vehicles' default behaviour to upright themselves can produce some crazy position and rotation velocity (involving a sudden vertical push after its wheels just contact a surface, from memory), making the vehicle fly around in a bizarre, mosquito-like pattern until it reaches an arbitrary destination. I'd imagine that the bucket's low weight coupled with no actual wheels attached means the prop keeps attempting to upright itself every physics tick, sending it off at the speed it does. Watching both clips of peng bumping the bucket frame-by-frame, it looks as if the bucket attempts to upright itself both times before being launched, which is very similar to the start of vehicles bugging out from their upright behaviour.
The Combine DO drive apcs but not only does this barely happen, the AI for it is just shit. It struggles to do anything more complex than one-off moments of driving down a street. Having an apc chase the player requires *constantly* telling the APC to drive to the player, and even the it's super buggy. The game as it was in the September 2003 leak included *significantly* more segments of moving APCs.
20:27 idk why but this whole sequence really got to me as being so absurd in a narrative sense. Demigod who is jet boosting through reality gets blocked by a simple iron gate, responds by time traveling, making a poop bucket fly to the edge of the universe instantly, and then very very VERY carefully starts putting two paint cans on top of eachother, constantly having to insure their safety by securing the time and place of every known object that exists every couple fractions of a second. Before covid I used to go somewhat regularly to festivals/events, usually dance festivals. They're amazing, worth every penny I spent, but one thing I came to notice after enough of them was that I almost _always_ have a emotional dip or crash. This happens even when I'm having an amazing time otherwise. At some point I realized that when those started coming on, my instinctive reaction was to try to reroute them, to ignore the encroaching feelings of alienation and insecurity. It's worth mentioning that the reason the two bounding boxes are called the Quake box and the Havok box are because the source engine is based off of the Quake video game source code, which is in charge of the movement and other things. Havok is the physics engine that Valve licensed for the source engine, and I guess for some reason they had to use a different bounding box for the two systems instead of just one. I used to watch half life 2 speedruns back when I was a kid, must have been around 15 years ago so it's insane to me how much the runs have evolved. One way this has changed is that the video can be uploaded in one go and not in 5 minute parts lol but the fact you can skip cutscenes now is crazy. It used to just be flying across the map, bonking people on the head, and pressing Z at Alyx's butt during the cutscenes. Thanks for explaining all the new strats for the first game I saw a speedrun for:)
1:02:03 Fact check. The item used to break open the crates was a SMG Nade, not a RPG Rocket. (Fun fact: If he had kept 1 RPG rocket in the chamber and fired it, going down to 0 rockets, the 3 rockets he got from the crate would've instantly reloaded the RPG - the RPG's reload animation is skipped if you hit 0 rockets)
The amount of "pickle pecker picker" variations is astounding. Cool speedrun video! Wondered what went on in HL2 and couldn't wrap my head around it. Seeing that Celeste was second picked by the patreon makes me jealous! That's like Tomato's whole doing well speech as an entire game!
tomatoanus i just wanted to let you know that i love your videos and you are my favorite creator on this platform. your deep talks in the videos have helped me a lot and i really hope you can keep making great videos like these.
Damn, these modern speedruns have 2 things that really impress me. 1st is the amount of research of game physics that goes into it. Its legit science at this point. 2nd is how code reacts to all these shananigans players throw at it and consequences of it. Amazing stuff.
Well shit... this is the first time the mental health message hit just as I needed it, as I was having a lot of difficult thoughts going through my head just as it started
32:10 First time watching a video from your channel and this part was really unexpected. But, thank you, it was really powerful and I needed to hear some words of encouragement. I'm not well emotion-wise and it's the little things that really help so, again, thank you!
Just a reminder, tomatoanus usually tries to explain the speedrun without pausing it This one is so crazy for being 2 times longer than the speedrun itself
I don't like the camera insert of your self. OT adds nothing to the video and is distracting to what i want to watch, the game. I liked your videos better without it
Dude, thank you so much for this detailed description, especially the tip about gaining speed ontop of trains going the opposite direction than you. I wasn't late for work today!
I love speedrun explanations like this! I've run HL1 but have not HL2. I did learn accelerated hopping at one point. What a trip. This video deserves a like just for the extremely accurate captions.
I love learning about Half Life and FPS runs because you have to be sooo precise all the time and the movement is still inherently imprecise through most of it. It blows my mind.
Jokes aside, thank you for your videos. I always think the intermissions for encouragin words are a nice touch. While I'm doing fine myself, I hope these words reach people who need to hear them and I am also cheering for everyone to take every day head-on, do their best and work towards what they need to work on

Just talking to friends and wording out the things that are going through my head help me a lot with not drowning. Im looking forward to the day where i can say "help me stay on top" instead. So remember everyone, every burden gets harder when you face it alone. Find someone to talk to, its the first step.

@@Violet_KnightHa! I see what you did there
I've been running the game for years now and i still learned alot of new stuff from this video, great work :)
51:40
"Says 'sup to a Com guy..."
turns him into a fine pink mist with a shotgun.
Ah yes, my favorite way to say hi
Love the video! Great explanations and some funny bits. Also the little positive inspirational message in the middle was super cool and made me feel better today when I was having a kind of off morning, so thanks! :)
This is gonna be good, gonna have to grab some whiskey and toblerone for this one!
I've been watching for a long time now, either due to your AGDQ New Vegas run or just before that I can't remember. This is the first time I've REALLY needed the "no feeling is final" speech and I just want to thank you for continuing to include it. You're a legend and by far my favourite speedrunning content creator, keep it up :)
i missed your videos bro, thank you for this upload ✊🏾
Your explanations for speedrun content is second to none, every time I see a new vid in my feed I get so excited! Love your vids!
of course youtube shows me this when im struggling with suicidal thoughts... i just got hit in the face with kind words halfway through the vid like a train
Hope you feel better man
Thanks for making a video precisely long enough for me to repair my clothes dryer. I've been putting it off for weeks and wanted to quit at several points midway, but this video kept going, so I did too. Amazing what random little things help us get over the next hill.
We waited quite some time for an upload, but damn it, it was totally worth it
always really appreciate the mental health checkups, even if im doing okay right now it still makes me really happy and grateful, you are doing such a wonderful thing
I used to get really uncomfortable when you did the "wellness check" part of your videos because I guess I didn't feel like I deserved it or I just didn't believe you but I realize now that I am watching it. I guess I did make it through after all, thanks mr anus!
Lmao mr.anus
❤
im speechless how funny are tomatoes adverts, i never ever skip them
dude i been watching your videos for so long now and heard your kind words an endless amount of times.
but this time it hit different.. being in deep depression its hard to remember that there are better times as well but hearing it gave me a bit more strength to make more adjustments and changes.
thank you tomatoman.
Thanks for reminding me that I am not my emotions, but what I think of them, which we can change. 👾
Your videos are always a huge good time, I like speedrunning, love the way you explain the runs and the special message always makes me feel better.
As a deaf person, i dont appreciate that you incorrectly subtitled fuck with "fiddlesticks" which i am only aware of and outraged by thanks to someone explaining this to me because, as previously stated, I am deaf. Did i mention my skull flaps ain't workin' all that good? Carry on
TH-cam usually auto censors any swears in captions to [_____] which is beyond stupid. Why they consider it to be more inappropriate to write the words being said I’ll never know
@@Hidden_FernTH-cam is ran by sensitive pussies currently.
Well, that ad was certainly a trip. The BBT joke was also delivered flawlessly, instant classic!
I love the fact that bill's big thrill works on most source games including garry's mod (kinda)
I absolutely love how you, not only make your sponsors actually entertaining, but you also add a time-stamp at the end anyways, good shit!
8:41 It brings me great glee picturing Gordon Freeman matrix running up the stairwell walls.
Thanks for explaining all the new strats for the first game I saw a speedrun for:)
wow, yesclip is so cool! the person who found it for new engine must be really cool and smart and good at speedrunning!
guac when more hl2 runs
@@Tmob i didn’t even do runs after figuring out yesclip lol
Nice speedrun explanation.
Man, I missed your videos so much thanks I needed this
the reference to Rubber at 59:03 absolutely took me out, you have very good taste in niche horror films
Dude, I’ve been looking forward to a video drop for a while now, glad you’re back.
great that msushi portal 2 knowledge is relevant to another speedrun video
That's like Tomato's whole doing well speech as an entire game!
the water surfing parts are amazing. Its great how top open and free of invisible walls the maps are
Thought I wouldn’t have anything good to watch while I clean my Time Machine, and then this shows up in my inbox? phenomenal.
I love this video so much, I can't stop watching it, the prestation, the movement, the explaining of the glitches, all beatiful
thanks for the supporting words, it really helped me after my grilled cheese fell behind the diswasher
1:10:10 'Hitting this dude into a wall like he was sitting on an airbag' is exactly what happened lmao
32:05 is what I'm here for.
tomatoanus i just wanted to let you know that i love your videos and you are my favorite creator on this platform. your deep talks in the videos have helped me a lot and i really hope you can keep making great videos like these.
Hey I know that guy! (Also banger vid, was worth the wait)
Damn, these modern speedruns have 2 things that really impress me. 1st is the amount of research of game physics that goes into it. Its legit science at this point. 2nd is how code reacts to all these shananigans players throw at it and consequences of it. Amazing stuff.
Always good to see Half Life being run.
Halve Live*
Always a pleasure seeing a new upload from you mate. You always cheer me up. Also Big Ups to Peng. Sick Speedrun.
16:23 mario moment
I super appreciate how you have manual subtitles on your videos, despite them being an hour long. thank you :)
Only this guy can make 38 minutes feel like 75 minutes
24:00 I can't belive you called Matt, the greatest hax fighter an NPC :steamsad: 10/10 VIDEO I LOVE YA
I'm not well emotion-wise and it's the little things that really help so, again, thank you!
men up wtf lol 🤣
Just a reminder, tomatoanus usually tries to explain the speedrun without pausing it
This one is so crazy for being 2 times longer than the speedrun itself
500 views in 4 mins bro fell off
yeah, that tends to happen
These comments have gotten very tired.
@@jabob3496ye, they fell off
I fell off the wagon
@@jabob3496 yeah I kinda said it ironically
58:16 you didn't have to drop some hot bars like that, but you did it. You did that for us. Thank you.
I don't like the camera insert of your self. OT adds nothing to the video and is distracting to what i want to watch, the game. I liked your videos better without it
So go watch the run not this then
32:10 - 32:55 i just wanted to thank you for these... may not seem like a lot to most but its very reassuring to hear these bits every vid :3
This is my favorite speedrun.Ive been waiting for this one. Cheers!
Dude, thank you so much for this detailed description, especially the tip about gaining speed ontop of trains going the opposite direction than you. I wasn't late for work today!
I an so happy to see another video I was watching one earlier this week and was hoping you were still making vids . Thank you for your content
I love speedrun explanations like this! I've run HL1 but have not HL2. I did learn accelerated hopping at one point. What a trip.
This video deserves a like just for the extremely accurate captions.
19:55 tomato's face here is so adorable. Definitepy worthy of a B-tier desktop background
I love learning about Half Life and FPS runs because you have to be sooo precise all the time and the movement is still inherently imprecise through most of it. It blows my mind.
love the visual explanations with the havok/quake physics boxes! incredible video
Jokes aside, thank you for your videos. I always think the intermissions for encouragin words are a nice touch. While I'm doing fine myself, I hope these words reach people who need to hear them and I am also cheering for everyone to take every day head-on, do their best and work towards what they need to work on
I was just watching the Control video and i look down and see this in my recommended. Today is a good day. Love you tomatoanus
Didn't expect the motivational help at 32:00, but its highly appreciated. Thanks!
your videos are always so good! as much as I love the actual content, the background music is always a treat. glad to see Katamari Damacy soundtrack getting some love :)
43:07 They missed the chance to rename the chapter "Sanstraps"
Hi G-Man! (Also, man, this was SURPRISINGLY possible to follow considering the sheer amount of stuff going on during the run.)
What a wild run.
Crazy crazy tricks in this one.
Thanks Valve, thanks runners and thanks ANUS
34:35 oh my gosh haiiii!!!
big fan of your g spot g man 😋
ive been hoping this would come out for a while and it does not disappoint
