One of my favorite parts about speedruns is that it’s a collaboration of two entirely different skillsets. On the one hand you’ve got hunters and TASers like Blazit and Kriller, discovering precise methods of breaking the game’s limits and then refining those into something a person can achieve. Then on the other hand you have runners like Saradoc and Darbian and Niftsky actually implementing those strategies back to back. Without both parties, these limit-breaking speedruns just can’t happen.

For a long time, I was wondering when Niftski's gonna show up. When I learned that he had no previous records at this point, that was wild, seeing this as his road to stardom. Man, what a guy, and what a video! Honestly, it's beautiful the way you put these together, every single one just leaves me with happy feelings and in a good mood.
Summoning Salt's video drops are more exciting than anything Netflix, Hulu, Max, or any other streaming service. Every time I see his videos pop up I stop everything I'm doing at work and watch. This one is a bit more playful than past ones and I LOVE IT. The "And the record stands til this day" gag near the beginning was hilarious and it had me to the point where I double checked the video length.
It would be amazing if he manages to find an actual record that was never beaten after being set for the april 1st video, just to pull of that gag but for real this time.
Literally I get more excited for a new vid of Mr. Summoning Salt then these billion-dollar movies, companies, or streaming service ever can!! Sad, they think we want 16k Ultra Graphix and all we want is some good ol 8 bit lolZ
I love that summoning salt just calls out Bismuth and doesnt explain the "LOL beef", and I noticed how Summoning salt set up a chekhov's gun, by showing the FFPG earlier in the video. Amazing story telling Summoning!
Hell Yeah! It's as though the blooper knows it's not even supposed to be there, especially after Mario drops the axe! Then to be bonked! The Irony is palpable!
can't help but wonder if Niftski's use of a keyboard (and presumably an emulator?) has ever been a source of controversy... it's even mentioned in the video that the FFPG was nigh impossible on original hardware so I was kinda confused when that never came up again
It has, yes, even in this very comment section. Yet no one can deny he's the savant of Super Mario speedruns, he's demonstrated his skills in original hardware before. Removing his keyboard would be like removing fight sticks from the FGC in some way.
The only people that complain anymore are the uninformed. Niftski tied one of his older WRs with a controller on hardware, so his skills are legit. And most high level smb1 runners think using a keyboard is actually a handicap with how you input directions.
Emulator is generally fine for smb1 because we have nes emulators that are essentially 1 to 1. I believe emu runs have to have hand/input cam and only certain emulators are allowed. His using keyboard is generally not seen as an issue by those involved in the community. He's demonstrated that he is still incredibly capable on real hardware and most runners agree that kb doesn't provide an advantage. Regarding ffpg on original hardware, as far as I understand it, it should be the same as on emu. It's just incredibly difficult. Take what I'm saying with a grain of salt though.
It was when he was new but once he cooked on original hardware people realized it's just personal preference also due to the forbidden gaming term it's simpler for someone to get into the game on emulator
That's cool that everyone's chill with his using a keyboard as a preference, but surely if it doesn't matter then he could prove it by matching, or at least getting within a few frames, with original hardware? Respectfully, that he was capable with a controller back in the day has no bearing on whether or not the keyboard has become an advantage to him in the time since.
When I was one of the Publishers on TASVideos back in the day, it was always really exciting to see a new HappyLee run, because you knew something absurd (in the scope of SMB1) was going to be found. The thought of humans replicating those tricks was unfathomable. Absolutely astonishing stuff.
I remember when I was just getting into learning about speedruns, I always said "# seconds? That's kinda small" but honestly if you spend more than an hour only to miss a second from where you wanna be, it hurts a lot.
I love how in some of your videos a 12 second gain is a small improvement, and then in videos like this the entire net gain in the entire speedrun is like 5 seconds
I love the subtle hints to runners before they're revealed. I guess I've watched enough of your videos to know that was Darbian's face and Nifski's keyboard :D
It's delightful that Summoning Salt uploads a video right before my days off at work - watching THIS is the perfect way to relax. I can't express how much a video from you has become part of my "Comfort X" process.

21:45 "as long as he didn't do anything dumb"
average viewer: "he got this"
Summoning salt vet: *bated breath
Super Mario Bros on the Summoning Salt channel
I sure do wonder if public transport will be used as an example for anything
This may be one of your best written videos of all time. Insane kudos on keeping me literally glued to the screen, especially in the final 20 minutes.
Literally glued? How did you separate your face later?
Salt
@@WannaKnowMyNameThey could still be attached to the screen for all we know.
29:40 love the competetion spirit of Kosmic, acknowledging the effort of his competitors, and congratulate them when he was beaten.
I love that summoning salt just calls out Bismuth and doesnt explain the "LOL beef", and I noticed how Summoning salt set up a chekhov's gun, by showing the FFPG earlier in the video. Amazing story telling Summoning!
can u plz explain
the blooper getting bonked at 1:17 is fucking funny
Hell Yeah! It's as though the blooper knows it's not even supposed to be there, especially after Mario drops the axe! Then to be bonked! The Irony is palpable!
2100: Niftski's Grandson does minus world ending in 18 seconds
Death, taxes, and summoning salt explaining the frame rule
It's very comforting to hear everytime
A New Summoning Salt Video What A Christmas Gift
I found you.
an hour long video on a glitch level that only existed on a rare floppy disk release from 1986
can't help but wonder if Niftski's use of a keyboard (and presumably an emulator?) has ever been a source of controversy... it's even mentioned in the video that the FFPG was nigh impossible on original hardware so I was kinda confused when that never came up again
It was when he was new but once he cooked on original hardware people realized it's just personal preference
also due to the forbidden gaming term it's simpler for someone to get into the game on emulator
7:02 *not me checking the date to see if it was april fools in December*
Playing Marios for years, and now i see different
Only Summoning Salt can make an interesting 50 minute video about a record that went down by 17 seconds in its whole history
27:35 That Kosmic clip on 2/26 missing that perfect pace run in the first 3s on -3 is absolute comedy lmao
Stopping the music as he paused is *chef’s kiss*.
I love the subtle hints to runners before they're revealed. I guess I've watched enough of your videos to know that was Darbian's face and Nifski's keyboard :D
"When does Niftski show up?"
- Everyone before starting the video
fr 😭
I wasn't expecting a Summoning Salt upload but I appreciate it
This is my first video in a while from you but I love how you've grown your presence
Dude I actually screamed "WHAT NO WAY" when he did this and died laughing after the reveal 6:58
Same, I yelled, "Whaaaaat!?!" In my garage lol.
I already knew it was a 50-min long video, and I was still shocked when he said that.
2:36 “I think Money is great!”
This is a nod to Ellie Spectacular’s YTP, isn’t it
It has to be. It’s an amazing hidden gem.
It's delightful that Summoning Salt uploads a video right before my days off at work - watching THIS is the perfect way to relax. I can't express how much a video from you has become part of my "Comfort X" process.
“And then Summoning Salt uploaded…. This!!”
fr lolololll
I was about to go to bed.....
Verified under 100k?
Yeah @@JamesPanoff
@samasayed-r4y did they hit 100k subs then go under?
“The Human Limit, was officially reached.” (20 Minutes left in the video)
My favorite part of this video is that the "human limit" keeps changing!
12:54 why did you do my boy darbian like this
That was wild
He's got a nose for sniffing out good speedrun strats
I thought it was a cat pfp
I don't understand my addiction to 100% Summoning Salt videos on day one release. Great work as always, keep on keepin' on!
I watch on 128000x speed so I can optimize my run
I genuinely look forward to the frame rule explaination for EVERY mario video 😂😂
Most predictable summoning salt upload schedule
Imagine a bus that delivers new videos
Always got to get that late Dec vid out before new years

It's been so long since I've seen you're work! I'm so happy to see you still here
Pretty sure MissingNo is the most famous glitch in gaming history
