- Spider-Man 3 manages to catch all the crap in the world. Everyone hates this film but, can it be saved? Is it possible to take this nonsense and change it into something as good as the other two?

Spider-man 3 - Sam Raimi - action, comedy, drama -
(You can watch the editors cut on Amazon prime!) 7:40 I missed pointing this out in the video but the editors cut has this great moment of peter laying on Harry’s couch as a taunt to Harry. Because that’s where he put his fathers body. What a prick!
Can you get the editor cut on dvd or blue ray
@@scottcocktonyes, there’s a trilogy booklet Blu-ray with Spider-Man Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, and comes with Spider-Man 2.0 and Spider-Man 3’s editor cut
No you missed the part, where that's my problem
@@FireSkull2015
What's this specific blu-ray set called?
Looking up Spider-Man Trilogy blu-ray yields many results.
I don't see this on Prime. At least not in the UK
I think you missed something when peter was lying on the couch. Peter was lying in the same place Harry's father died. I love this video btw
Yes I did miss that! Very nice touch there.
I came to point this out. He’s twisting the knife. I think it’s also the same couch he was tied up on in 2?
@@TheStrangerSpeaks10 yeah. I am mad that they kept that scene out of the regular version
Plus the place where Peter is revealed as Spider-Man and their relationship completely changed after that point.
I missed the part where that's my problem
I love that they cut that butler thing. Mainly cuz it took the butler 3 movies to tell Harry!? Wtf?! Harry definitely woulda fired his ass. Lol
the blade that pierced his body
came from his trailer
they should've had a scene earlier in the movie where the butler tries to explain this to harry, but harry cuts him off and fires him on the spot, and make it seem like the butler has tried to get harry to understand this multiple times. This woulda worked much better cause it still establishes why harry suddenly changes his mind about peter lying about norman's death without the overly clunky nature of the butler scene. Especially if the butler isn't the focus of the scene but harry is instead, the butler in the background just working while harry is the focal point of the shot and everything is about his actions in this moment of cutting off someone close to him because he doesn't like what he's saying.
peter lying on the couch is him mimicking norman being dead on the couch just like he left him in the first movie
kind of mean to mimick him being dead, my opinion of spidermans character has just been called into question
@@petatersandgravye2n 100% but that’s the point of him doing that, it goes to show how much the symbiote is getting to peter and how much it’s making him be someone he’s not by being a horrible person
Look at me Harry, I'm dead! Bleeeeh!
@@petatersandgravye2n he was put on the couch remember so what ru talking about
@@isaacmaskey468 You're thinking of Spider-Man 2 when Doc Ock put him there. We're talking about in this movie where an alternate cut show Peter coming into Harry's place and Harry turning to see him laying on the couch he saw Spider-Man put his dead dad onto.
8:00 “strawberries” in the theatrical Peter’s eyes are red like he was crying. In the recut, they took the red out and make the rim of his eyes dark instead.
You are...amazing.
Damn that scene of Harry seeing the pic of him, Peter and MJ
Now that's a good ass scene
Right?? It’s a real shame it got the axe.
8:56 The black suit in the box moves up and down for a short time.
Yeah! That’s a cool effect. Makes it look alive.
Woah never noticed that
That's so cool. Looks like it's breathing.
Put more Raimi horror INTO MY MOVIES!
Yeah. Sam Raimi had a lot of horror elements involving the black suit that didn’t get used in the final cut for whatever reason. Glad that they added some of them back in.
I think we could still get a Spider-Man 3.1 extended cut
Too late for that
@@Dachin55555How is it too late? Obviously it’s not too late to make another cut of the movie since they *just* did exactly that with the editor’s cut.
@@ryanhutchinson4467 The editors cut is basically 3.1
Always good to hear the Sandman theme. I’ll have to check out the editors cut, you went and peaked my curiosity.
You definitely should!
Christopher Young cooked here, I fear...
It never sucked in the first place

@@PieroMinayaRojas nice projection but it’s not nostalgia it’s just a good fun movie, cope and seethe
@@noirhacks definitely a response from a non biased person
Very interesting about this, also, WHY was that scene between Penny and Flint Marko cut?!? THAT was a very emotional and beautiful scene.
I don’t know! That’s legit one of the best scenes in the movie 😭
Time most likely.
As a big SM3 fan, i must say that i love both versions since the editors cut had to come out years after the one we are used to.
Please do more videos of this kind with other films too
You can’t take out that aunt may scene. Peter needs may and may is the reason Peter is such a good person.
True, and it is a great scene.
But the Tuber makes a good point.
He's an adult now, instead of continuing being influenced by other people, such as Spider-Man 1 and 2, he is given the agency and choice of what to do himself.
@@bigdoubleu117 This is correct
May made Peter a good person, but I think removing the scene is a good way of showing that he doesn't need her influence anymore
Being an adult doesnt mean you dont need people to show you a light when you are in darkness. Everyone needs help sometimes..Even spiderman. Aunt may isnt teaching peter anything new that peter doesnt already know at this point, she is there to remind things that peter let a part of himself forgot. That's the f king point of spiderman. Not a perfect man. Spider is only a symbol but underneath that mask there is someone just like all of us who makes mistakes as well. There is nothing wrong about a mother showing a path to his son no matter who that son is or how old that son is.
I’m so glad to know that more people are finding out about and watching the Editor’s Cut!
Where??
Well, i still prefer some scenes in theatrical, but it's a shame that scene where Harry looks at picture of Peter and MJ is cut. I always thought it was better
Giant miss-step not using the Editor's cut for the theater re-release, so many people I know went to laugh at the movie, Sony had the opportunity to nip it in the bud forever.
That would’ve ruled! If anyone was going to laugh at it they’re already lost.
It was fun, though. People were not hating on it (having paid to see it again) and they were also finding the humor in it. Watching the movie with an audience made me see stuff that I just dismissed as not good now as comedic moments, such as the “dirt in your eye” line.
This is why I like editing improv, sometimes I’ve found that something made up at the start works best at the end and vise-versa.
Great video. I'm one of the biggest fans of Spider-Man 3 ever, but I've been watching the EC for the past 7 years. Even though it's an Editor's Cut, some people still call it 3.1 or Raimi Cut.
I’ve heard the 3.1 cut more than editors but I only discovered it recently! Shame it’s not on more physical releases.
Wow! I bought this Blu-ray set when it came out to replace the previous set that had no special features; I had no Idea that it had a re-edited version of Spider-Man 3 on it! Thank you for your video - these do seem like real improvements in providing motivation and character arcs. I will have to watch this in context to evaluate soon! But if only there was a cut that removed the 'Sandman killed Uncle Ben' MacGuffin...
That sandman plot I understand but dislike as well. Deflates a lot of good will.
Spider-man 3 doesn’t suck. It’s just disappointing compared to the first two
That’s fair and I agree.
why
Unfortunately the MCU is FLOODED with unnecessary jokes such as drax standing still and many many other garbage humor that ruins the tension, Spiderman 3 is tiers greater than most "successful" MCU movies just because it knows how to pull of natural tension.
Spiderman 3 never sucked the audience was just spoiled.
Spider-Man 3 doesn't need to be fixed, it was perfect the way it was
That's a fine opinion, but a majority of people don't feel that way. So much so it stopped the subsequent sequels. It's okay to like a bad movie. Just be honest with yourself that it is a BAD movie.
@@SiLvErWaRe000 no it didnt stop the sequels. The were making the 4th .. other reasons ended it.
Hey I just love how you pointed out how a simple rearrangement of where the Black Suit James Brown dance was, led to a "slow descent into villainy" portrayal. Great stuff mate!
Thank you!
9:00 This is by far the funniest anything in regards to the Raimi Spider-Man universe, memes included. Could not stop laughing, what a fucking cut.
Something u missed that the editors cut that makes the black suit even more menacing is that it talks to Peter saying "come to us" and then makes a moan sound. I'm not kidding it's very hard to hear but it's there. But those two things makes the suit so much creepier and menacing. It's too bad we couldn't see Sam Ramis take on carnage
Re watched all the og Spiderman films with Editor's Cut in place of theatrical, and honestly blew me away how much of a difference there was. It was actually enjoyable!!! Thank you for bringing my attention to it!!!
You’re welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Spider man 3 doesn't need to be fixed, it's a perfect masterpiece as it is ❤️💜
tobeys spider man will always be nostalgia to me just cause of the fact its just so damn good and the tie in games there so good as well and the coloring in the movies are so great as well like look at the poster its sooooo good the red coloring it being soft and unique and god i wish we got more
I watched the editors a while back but i didn't catch all the musical score differences and all those other minor changes. Sick video!
Thank you 🙏
Ok no way that awkward cut to the cops saying “where’d he go?” is better
I like it way better in this version.
He’s not taking about the cop scene he’s taking about the scene of sandman falling. Not the tumbling, the trip part.
I never really thought it was awkward tbh...
That cut is in both versions you know that right. They're just in different orders. Did you watch Spiderman 3
@@noneofya6503 I know it’s in both. It’s just more awkward in the editor’s cut
Nahh the buttler scene makes more sense because he didn't know spiderman was peter, he realised maybe when he saw them fighting and wanted harry go help him
Spider-Man 3 never sucked.
This needs to be available on DVD to replace the original in my collection. Also, they need to do this with Madame Web. I bet there's a good movie on the cutting room floor.
When I first showed my girlfriend this movie. I showed her the editors cut. She told me it might be her favorite of the three.
I think this movie is flawed but misunderstood. The editors cut is definitely a nice little bandaid.
actually the original story is Sandman and the new goblin
if that happens there will be Spider-Man 4!
I had heard that venom was a studio thing.
@@RendanLovellThat's because Avi Arad and Sony forced Venom to exist! director Sam Raimi had no choice!
This is a great analysis. I gotta admit, I originally didn't plan on watching it the whole way through because I thought that it was going to be boring. But you made a really interesting comparision!
Thank you!
I never thought Spider-Man 3 was a bad movie.
i kinda think the editors cut music changes are boring and poorly written
it also cut a bunch of scenes which are kinda necessary/good (just because a scene is really campy doesnt mean its bad and needs to be cut)
editors cut is not better than original movie, just different
It is different but I personally think it is better. It does cut some good scenes but it does it to enforce a point or a message so I think it works. They definitely weren’t cutting scenes because they were campy.
Dang boy, what do you have against the elderly?
They in my way 😂
@@RendanLovell😂
My idea for a great cut is to scrap the scenes with Eddie brock, and instead use Harry as Venom. Basically, when Peter goes and nearly kills Harry, he suddenly realizes how far the suit has messed him up, and right then he pulls it off with all his might, where it seeks out the rage-filled Harry lying next to him. Then the movie plays on as normal, except obviously Harry does not help Peter in the final battle. When Peter blows up the suit he tries to rescue Harry from the blast, but he ends up fatally wounded.
If you remember, a main theme of the movie was forgiveness, and so in my version, Harry's death shows Peter that he has to let go of anger and forgive Sandman, or he will end up like Harry. For this reason, Peter literally allows Sandman to go, knowing he would otherwise kill him (as he already attempted). This actually makes the ending make sense and ties it all together, which is a lot better than having three detached villains in the movie.
I believe this version could be made, but you'd have to edit the suit transferring scene a bit to swap locations and use Harry's face.
Dude, you explained this so well. I was aware of some of the major differences between cuts without actually watching the editor's version in full, but some of these I hate I didn't know sooner. I wasn't aware of the shift in motifs which I'm a huge sucker for. Cutting the Aunt May and Butler scenes initially didn't sit right with me, but you completely changed my mind when you put it into the big picture. Outstanding work man
9:01 the unexpected ways happen to line up really well with earlier scripts, as well as the novelization.
You lost me with saying Spider-man 3 sucks.
I didn’t say that
@@RendanLovellLiterally the first sentence in the video. "Does Spider-Man 3 still suck?" Implies that you believe it sucks or at least did in the past.
@@PatLund true but I add context with the very next line. “And IF it does” implying I don’t actually think it does.
didn’t translate for me. the question was “does it still suck?” not “did it ever suck?” heavy implication that the accepted consensus is that it sucks.
either way, i enjoyed the video. i’m finishing a feature edit at the moment, and all these things you mention are spot on. so many intricate decisions for an editor to make to best tell the story.
I’ve never seen the editors cut so this is just so sick.
Broh the obviousness of the dramatic flourishes is the charm of sm3 and the rain I trilogy generally
A perfect cut for me is:
Theatrical order of events - it may be a slower pace but i feel like everything makes more sense in this version (aside from Peter’s jacket changing to a shirt and changing back during the dance scene)
All new scenes in the editors cut - every scene that is new in the editors cut that’s not a alternate version of something I like
No deleted scenes - any scene the editors cut takes out is a bad decision, especially the Aunt May scene, though the alternate jumpscare in Peter’s room is good
Alternate Harry looking at photo scene - it’s a much better scene then the butler scene
Theatercial score - the score for the original movie, particularly the last scene is perfect as it ends in a sad tone with Peter and MJ dancing to their theme throughout the trilogy but Young’s score in my opinion ruins the ending in the editors cut, though I did like Christopher young’s score in Spider-Man 3 better then Elfmans in 1 and 2, it’s one of the best scores in superhero movie history
My version of the scene with Harry about to head out to help Peter would honestly combine both
@@ghostphoenix666 I like that too, Harry forgive Peter in the first photo scene and the second one with the butler makes Harry find out the truth, I still think the butler scene is a bit weird but the acting, visuals and message of the scene is good enough for me to like both scenes combined, though if I were to only pick one then it’s definitely the photo scene but both is good too
I like the Aunt May scene, but I think it was good to cut it. He was raised by her and influenced by her in Spider-Man 1 and 2, but deleting that scene gives Peter, the main character, the agency and choice of what he should do.
@@bigdoubleu117 that was the reason Bob Murkawski (the editor) cut the scene out, to give agency to Peter but this scene is supposed to be Peter’s lowest point in the trilogy where he is lost and has no idea what to do, its Aunt Mays final lesson to Peter about forgiveness and encouraging him to keep the ring and be a good person, without it the message of forgiveness at the end of the movie isn’t as strong if the scene with Aunt May telling Peter how to forgive is cut, that scene is one of the most important scenes of the whole movie and it’s a big mistake in my opinion to have that cut in the editors cut
@@lovepreetgames Nah, respectfully, I disagree. I think it hits just as hard. I love the scene. But I think it hits the nail a little too hard, it's a bit on the nose and in your face, I guess. So exactly that, Peter is at his lowest point, and ultimately, he is a good person and learns to forgive on his own.
My favorite is the music when you see the ring in Lord of the rings.
While I love spiderman 3, this video shows me what could’ve been even greater. Cool! Subscribed 😎
I saw Spiderman 3 first as a child and I just enjoyed it in its purest form as much as I did the first two. The original release was perfect for me and I still see it that way as a 25 year old now.
It's worth noting that the editor's cut is mostly a restoration rather than a new cut. Murawski clarified the intent was to restore the film to an earlier cut that was prior to some further executive meddling. Mainly, it restores some deleted scenes, removes some scenes added in reshoots, and uses alternative takes from before the reshoots. Most notably though, it restores Christopher Young's full score which was chopped up and replaced in many places.
Good man Rendan. You deserve to be waaay bigger.
Appreciate it my guy 🙏
Spider-Man 3 is the only Spidy film I have saved to my phone...😂
That’s kinda awesome lol
Spider-Man 3 never sucked. Only morons think it's a bad movie. The Editor's Cut is superior to the theatrical cut but that doesn't mean the original is bad.
Agreed. I don’t mind the theatrical but the editors cut is the better version for sure.
I agree with the Harry scene, that should’ve been it instead and the same with Aunt may cuz we needed neither of those scenes. Harry should’ve seen the picture definitely.
I rewatched Spiderman 3 last year, and honestly it wasnt as bad as i remember. When i was younger, i had trouble following everything and it felt like it was all over the place, but the rewatch was easy to follow
I love spider man 3. Always have, always will. This edit might make me love it even more
I hope it does!
God damn I love a good Raimi Spiderman video
The photo of Harry, Peter, and MJ showing a crack between Harry and Peter is such a nice touch that says everything we need to know without any words.
Peter lies on the couch when confronting Harry because that's where he put Norman's dead body down in the first movie, so he was taunting Harry there.
Oh that’s a great catch! I didn’t think of the body being there!
It's beautiful , Harry's part is the most cracked , then Peter , then one crack just touching Mj .
Still better than the Tom Holland garbage
To save money, a different film score composer was used for SM3 than in the first 2 movies, and it definitely impacted SM3 for the worse. Wish they'd kept Danny Elfman for the whole trilogy. Man is a legend. Right up there with Hans Zimmer and John Williams in my opinion.
This was a great breakdown. Good job. Describes the art of editing perfectly. Its super weird they described this version as “the editors cut”. You don’t see that very often. I wonder if Raimi refused the offer to do an alternate version since he’s sad how original version ended up. . I remember there being so many deleted scenes from this movie. The original ending had Gwen kidnapped and not MJ which is why the trailer has MJ showing up to Harry’s delivering a speech about “Everything we were will mean nothing”. In reshoots they changed it to Mj getting kidnapped by Venom. Sandman and venom teaming up was also much different, after the Penny sandcastle scene, that’s when Eddie approaches. Then there’s also the alternate death scene of Venom where the suit ends up “consuming” Eddie literally to the point where when the Symbiote is destroyed Eddie’s skull is left behind and his bone structure & teeth have changed to the Venom face. You can actually see this on Sony’s stock footage web site. They sell stock footage from all sorts of movies and a few of them come from Spider-Man 3. An entire subplot was cut with Sandman meeting with this doctor that can cure Penny. Sony sells stock footage of a few shots from this set like sand pouring out of a vent.
Thank you!
Did you fucking call bully maguire evil Peter 💀💀💀 Now Bully Maguire is gonna put some dirt in your eye! Gonna cry?
It was bad when it came out, but kids grew up and laughed at how funny and goofy it is with the memes
I hate AVI ARAD for destroying Sam Raimi's passion
need an editor's cut of the entire mcu now lol
making the bg music is extremly hard, when it's easy to have no and it can get boring
Does the editor cut do anything about Harry waiting on Peter (who is having a heart to heart with sandman maybe a minute or two) as he lays dying. That always seemed awkward didn't really follow human logic lol
see thats were you are wrong. the movie may have had its issues but it was far from a turd and in fact still an amazing movie.
I never said it was a turd my friend
11:32: Nobody tell Bernard they cut this scene. I've watched the bloopers from the DVD extras and that thing took them like 100 takes because he kept forgetting his lines 😂
And in one version venom dissolved Eddie and he was just a skeleton in the final fight.
13:24 Weren't they able to get Toby back for the photo??? Like what the fuck??? That's not Peter!
Where'd he go?? IDK maybe in the giant hole. 😂
I don't remember that sandman scene at the end at all, was that actually in the theatrical release? I don't remember it
Spider-Man 3 is a masterpiece. In the first like 25 minutes it's a bit shaky, has some bad looking scenes, but once Peter sees his reflection, wearing black suit, and you hear that black suit theme...That hits hard. And then the movie just gets better and better. By the end it's still the best Spidey movie ever.
That scene does hit hard
I’ve always felt it should have been two movies:
Part 1 focuses more on Harry’s obsession with revenge. Then the film ends with Eddie becoming Venom.
Part 2 only focuses on Spider-Man vs Venom.
Also, I think Sandman should have been completely omitted.
Wait... This entire video I was waiting for you to talk about the edits to venom and Topher Grace. Did they not touch the end of the movie?
The people immediately beefing with Rendan about the original movie not sucking are just being contrarian for the sake of being one, lmao.
I loved this movie despite its flaws (not kino but it's fun to watch), but you can't overlook the glaring issues with the cinematography and the script of the theatrical release. The editor's cut fixes a lot and salvages what it can to make it flow better. Unironically, you gotta know how decent/good stories work and flow to stand back and objectively look at the movie and go "hey, this doesn't work well, what if we try this instead?" They can only do so much to make it even more presentable than it was, and for that, you gotta give them credit.
Anyway, great video! Watched this before bed, and now I'm just awake typing this comment.
6:37 So I don't know shit about fuck when it comes to editing, but having Marko exit the frame at the bottom, and then hard cutting to him moving into the next one from the right feels clunky as hell, because our mind want to follow the movement downwards and not sideways. The brief moment with the cops refreshes our perspective and means we go into the scene of him tumbling downwards with no expectation of where the movement should be going from/too. I assume it's the Kuleshov effect in action?
How do I watch this version
Sam Raimi dealt with so much bullshit with Spider-Man 3 and 4
I’m sorry what was the difference between the exchange between Aunt Nay and Peter of the 50 years? I don’t see a difference
No, I prefer the butler and aunt may’s scenes being there.
Lol I thought the video was about the Spiderman 3 game 😅
The Aunt May scene should’ve stayed and the butler scene should’ve stayed but just sequenced differently with better acting and, music maybe
I think one of the biggest issues with this movie is that they suggested that someone else accidentally killed Uncle Ben. They basically ruined the creation of Spider-Man
I just hate how most criticism of the movie devolves into "worst venom/too many characters" and thats it.
This is much better when you go into detail
i like the theatrical sound better but i think that's just nostalgia talking for me. Interesting video, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
In certain parts of the video I thought he’d bring up some sponsor but no, LOL
We going in raw
man, now i gotta go watch the editor's cut.
venom storyline and connections to it was the only issue with spiderman 3 thats a fact
Randomly seeing a mountain range I drive by everyday in a yt video about spiderman was weirdddd.
I thought this was gonna be about the Spider-Man 3 Video Game :(
can the audio remove the crap venom
I’d say that forgiveness is a main theme of this movie too, Harry forgives Spider-Man/Peter and redeems himself, Eddie can’t let go of his anger/hate for Peter and dies trying to cling onto the power he had over him then Peter forgives Flint for accidentally killing Ben and feels free of that rage and pain he had earlier in the film. Then the very last scene MJ forgives Peter for his arrogance show early on and ultimately his aggression before act 3. That’s the main theme I’ve always seen with this story. Forgiveness.
Where can one watch the editors cut?
Amazon prime has it rn but you can buy a box set with it included on disk too.

i don't believe that spider-man 3 has a good and bad version to me i know the majotiity don't like spider-man 3 at all think it's a bad disappointing movie but only the miniroty love spider-man 3 think it's a good movie i have to be honest i love oringial version of spider-man 3 it's a great underrated movie to me 9 out of 10 for me in my honest unpopular opinion and the dance part is not bad to me that's my favorite scene it's a great scene to me i
I will not be watching edited versions. I like to see the version I saw at the cinema.
Theatrical it decent but you should give this cut a try!
Sounds great!....where can we watch it?
I like spiderman 3 more than spiderman 2.... even as it is.
The editor's cut of Spider-Man 3 doesn't really fix the movie for me as since I am a Venom fan, my biggest issue with the movie is how Venom is portrayed. In the comics the symbiote was not a corrupting force, (instead it was Eddie that corrupted it) and even before his anti-hero transition Eddie had good qualities. (like only limiting their revenge to Peter, to the point of never trying to kill MJ unlike their SM3 counterpart) Venom didn't see themselves as the villain or "liked being bad" and it resulted instead in this interesting twisted parody of a superhero that made other revenge focused supervillains boring in comparison. Then there were all the stuff they changed to try to make him more like Peter, (and don't get me started on that church scene) like changing his workplace and profession to match Peter's, having Topher Grace play him since he is more in line with Toby's figure, making him interested in Gwen, etc.
I can agree with you there. Venom here was mostly used as a metaphor for peters evil turn but it does make the character look bad.
Tldr
This venom was more like a carnage type of take on the symbiote because even before the movie came out they were thinking of making it so Eddies skin would melt away and fuse with the symbiote as they bonded in the church scene with more loud and painful screams from Eddie. But they never got far with that idea since this is supposed to appeal to a younger Audience
