  • Falken AT3W tyre review
    Falken AT3W are they any good? In short yes.
    Falken tyres have been around for a little while now and have become very popular in the 4 wd all terrain tyre market in the last couple of years. My belief is it is because they were marketed and priced very well with a buy 4 for the price of 3 for the better part of the last few years.
    Now you see them on nearly every second 4wd (I know over exaggeration) they start to make you think everyone has them so they must be a good thing. But are they?
    I like the Falken AT3W’s for a few reasons, they are a large OD (overall diameter) tyre. They have good tread depth from new, over 14mm on my 285/70r17s. The squared off edges makes them wider. And side biters to look like a tough 4wd tyre.
    How do the preform? On road they are quite, and hold the road better than most highway terrain tyres. Off road they are tough and durable. Offer plenty of traction for an all-terrain tyre. They do lack in the mud and could have a bit more bite to them. But as far as an AT goes they are on par with most if not better.
    Tread life and longevity? Well mine are 40,000 km old with 10mm of tread left so I would expect into the 80,000 km plus out of the Falken AT3W all terrain tyres.

    I just got a set of these Falken tires to replace my Bfgoodrich M/T KM3 tires... only because in my area.. it rains a lot..and my offroader is mainly my daily driver..so I drive a lot more on the road rather than off the road...
    I absolutely hands down LOVED my M/T tires...drive FANTASTIC offroad...and great on dry pavement... just not in the rain on pavement.. so for safety I got the Falkens.. hopefully they will still be effective for me lol...as I do try and go offroad when I can!!...

    One of the biggest downsides to the AT3W’s is the weight. The C Load tire in 285/70/17 weighs nearly 64 lbs (oddly the E load in same size is 58)

    • @TC-rw6gk

    People here in the states, particularly in the west and northwest, go wild for these because they work well in snow and ice, better, I think than the KO2s. Of course, I'm going to take my jeep down to the desert this summer, where I grew up, and try them out in the dry country and I have a feeling they won't be as great a tire as I think they are...

      @ToledoCars 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im in Ohio and I chose these for my Jeep for that reason. Looking forward to having some decent snow performance. But, we will see. Haven't gotten them delivered yet. How did they do in the desert?

      @@ToledoCars I wasn't able to try them out on any serious obstacles, but scrambling up steep inclines with loose dirt and rocks, going through sand, they were better than I figured they'd be. I aired down to about 20 psi. I really am impressed with them and highly recommend.

    I'm currently on AT's after being on MT's for years, much like you, I can't wait to switch back.
    The AT's are significantly quieter on my vehicle because I have a petrol engine, so there's no diesel rattle, I only have to deal with a bit of wind noise. They also handle so much better in the wet (no need for second gear take off's due to lack of traction control and too much power in a rear drive ute).
    Even with those two major benefits, I really miss the ease of crawling with muddies off road.

    I'm considering a set of these in 275/70r17, and I have 0 offset steelies on stock ride height in my 2016 Fortuner Ltd. That's approx 32" tyre, do you think I will have any scrubbing/scraping issues with clearance? Or is this size + offset combo all good on stock height? Thanks bro!

    I bought my At3w when they first came out in America back in 2017/18. They were $98 each for 265/70/17 after rebates. They are $178 each today. Overall, while its not a bad tire, I'm going with the Toyo At3 for $3 more per tire at $181. Falken was a value proposition for a value brand. But now since theyre the peoples tire, they price them right up there with Toyos and BFGs. No thanks, won't be getting them again.

    These tires have VERY weak sidewalls. They got sliced up really bad wheeling in Colorado and had to throw them away after just 2 months. Polyester doesn’t belong in an all terrain tire sidewall.

    • @donniegardner6294
      @donniegardner6294 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I do. 265/75 on a Nissan Frontier. Very and I mean very little noise. The only time you can hear them is making a turn with the windows down. It’s not a roaring or humming sound..it’s more or a sticky/grippy sound. You can’t really hear it unless you’re listening for it.Had them on for about 800 miles and so far I love them. I have to say I seem to get better gas mileage now with a taller tire than I did with my stock HT tires. As far as sand..I live in Florida so that’s all we have. I’ve tested them out lightly but I feel confident with them in the sand.
