    In this video, I will show you how to install the OEM Power Tailgate Lock Kit (available in 2 sizes) from Toyota. Adding this kit will allow you to automatically lock/unlock your tailgate anytime you lock/unlock your 3rd Gen Tundra (2014 and up)!
    Please note: Even though Toyota states that this kit is only for 2019+ Tundras, the kit should work for any 3rd Gen Tundra with power locks (this particular Tundra is a 2015).

      Baffles me that auto tailgate lock is not standard on a 60K 2021 truck. Just installed a bed cover on my ‘21 TRD Pro and realized I now need to buy and install this harness.

    • @LevelUpMechanics

      It baffles me too. It's definitely a necessity, especially in regards to how easy it is to remove the tailgate completely if you forget to manually lock it.

  • @lijianli
    @lijianli 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Will sitting inside the vehicle and unlocking from the door controls to unlock other doors also unlock the tailgate as well? Great video and easy to follow instructions. My dealership wants $419 plus tax for this installation and part. From the video, I can easily follow and save that money minus the part.

    • @LevelUpMechanics
      @LevelUpMechanics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct. If you are sitting inside the vehicle, pressing the unlock button once will unlock the driver front door. Pressing the unlock button twice will unlock all doors AND the tailgate.
      I'm glad you found the video useful! The install is pretty straight forward and is plug & play.

    Fantastic video, very well done, giving me the courage to upgrade as well. Question - I see that your truck has a truck cap/camper shell, were you able to also integrate auto lock/unlock for the shell? if so, what's the make/model of that shell, and how did you connect to Toyota's OEM actuator wiring?

    • @LevelUpMechanics
      @LevelUpMechanics  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The specific Leer camper shell on this Toyota Tundra is designed with two manual-locking twist handles and still needs to be opened manually.

  • @blakeaa827
    @blakeaa827 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is great, but how in the world did you get the top snap back in place on the passenger kick plate? It seems impossible with the way the wiring harness is mounted to the body.

    • @LevelUpMechanics
      @LevelUpMechanics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think I had too much of an issue with the wiring harness being in the way for me...
      I know that the kick plate / panel has a couple of white(?) plastic retaining clips that can sometimes stay stuck in the body of the vehicle when removing the kick panel... in which case, you need to pop them out of the body, place them back onto the kick panel, and then re-install the kick panel...
      Did the plastic retaining clips come off with the kick panel for you?

    • @LevelUpMechanics
      @LevelUpMechanics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, the plastic retaining clips look like they are bent when you remove the kick panel... this is actually the way they are supposed to be. The pointy end of the clip needs to be "pointing" towards the front of the vehicle, so it will "suck" the kick panel in / forward as it snaps into place...
      Trim panels can be tricky / finicky sometimes and may require a bit of trial and error... I think Toyota may have slightly over-engineered this particular trim panel (as it is very similar & frustrating to install on the Tacoma as well) 😆.

    • @blakeaa827
      @blakeaa827 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LevelUpMechanics this was the problem. I didn’t realize I needed to remove the clip from the body, put the clip on the panel, and THEN push the panel and clip back onto the body. I was trying to get the panel onto the clip while the clip was still in the body.
      Thanks!

    • @LevelUpMechanics
      @LevelUpMechanics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol, yeah it's a 2015 Tundra. I don't know why Toyota only says it's for 2019+ but it definitely works for 2014-2021 year models.

      Yes, I can confirm that it fits 2015 tundra. I have 2015 CrewMax with a short bed, everything worked out perfectly. It's pretty easy to install.

      They're essentially the same. They both do the same thing. However, a lot of people say that the Pop & Lock version is much louder.
      Also, the OEM version is 100% "plug &play". The Pop & Lock version may require wire splicing into factory wires.

    This is the second video on this same lock installation and both presenters failed to show the last wire connection. Why? Is it that simple? Is it a secret?

    • @LevelUpMechanics
      @LevelUpMechanics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What are you referring to? The last connection to the lock actuator?

    • @chrislienhart9067
      @chrislienhart9067 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LevelUpMechanics yes. You attached the new wire harness to the existing wire harness on top of the frame and then … done. It’s all finished.

    • @LevelUpMechanics
      @LevelUpMechanics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your referring to the body harness meeting the tailgate harness, then yes, it is that simple.
      If you routed both harnesses as shown in the video, the connection between both harnesses is quite simple and easy to do.
      The important info to show is how the wire harnesses are routed.
      I do agree that maybe I could have shown the connection between the two harnesses so that viewers could have a visual to refer to.
      I guess I just didn't think about it while filming because it is very simple to do, so it didn't occur to me that the visual aspect would be necessary.
      Thank you for the constructive criticism 👍 as it will help me to improve my content in the future.

    • @LevelUpMechanics
      @LevelUpMechanics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand what you're saying. The hard part of this install is just routing the wire harnesses. After that, it's literally just "plug & play".
      I definitely understand what you are referring to now 😁.
      I can tell you that if you are interested in doing this install, you shouldn't have any issues figuring out the connections between the body harness & tailgate harness. You'll just want to secure that connection with a zip tie, like you would with the rest of the harness.
      Thanks for giving me a heads-up on what I missed. Your feedback is definitely appreciated 👍😁.
