One Day Mini bike performance build. Home head shave compression boost

  • I actually attempt to shave an aluminum cylinder head with a chop saw. There is no time to find a machine shop and I've got nothing to lose except maybe a finger. Less of a How to and more of a 'what i did'. This is a 98cc 100cc 79cc coleman honda predator style engine running on 90+ octane for the burnout competition and monkey bike challenge for the 2022 no name nationals. fast mini bike build. The boost project has been put aside until after this race event.

    That was fun.
    No knowing what your doing but knowing what you want is often a major advantage.
    As a motorcycle mechanic, machinist, instructor, I would never have though of doing that.
    Well done.

    When I had my 318 Poly and was looking for aftermarket Intakes for it, I came across a guy that actually does this kind of stuff with Intakes. Cuts 2 intakes and welds them back together to make one that fits the Poly Blocks. Same principle but uses a carbide blade on a table saw. Pretty cool stuff.

    Kim, this is impressive…
    It’s fun watching you solve each of these problems as they come up. Good luck to you at the #nonamenationals 👍🏻

      I wanted to try this, but the supercharger was more important until it failed!

    • @RonniePTexan

      @@kimfixesthings I like it. You wouldn't want the high compression with a supercharger, so it makes sense to do now.

      @@kimfixesthings Maybe next year you can do a mini nitrous oxide system. The NOS Sneaky Pete uses a 10 ounce bottle and is already meant for a tiny amount of nitrous to be injected. They are meant for a 20 HP boost on a V8, but you could jet it down further and go for a 4-6 HP shot of nitrous. Using E85 or methanol, you can keep the temps down and not burn holes in your piston. It legit would work.

      Over the past year, I have made a bunch of 'drag race' passes with that motor. It runs fine, but it isn't fast. no head gasket issues yet.

    you gotta quit woman, i appreciate your ambition but that's not how you take down a head diy, you get a large piece of wet and dry sanding cloth or paper, glue it down to a large flat surface and you work the head down by hand, you don't put it in a make shift 2x4 jig and cut it on a chop saw, even if you get lucky and it does run it won't seal so all your going to do is burn the engine up from it running too lean.....

    • @kimfixesthings
      @kimfixesthings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i did clean this up with paper on a good flat bench, but didn't record that. so far i am still breaking other stuff while the head is working

      @@kimfixesthings sorry my bad, the way you showed it, it looked like you just hit it with the chop saw, you should show things like that so dummies like me wont jump to conclusions, you also might get a little more respect so some of the smart ass comments will stop, food for thought!!

    That was closer to .100 than .010 probably should re-calibrate your fine measurement tools.

    • @kimfixesthings
      @kimfixesthings  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, we wanted to boost compression. Last I checked .100 is read as a tenth, or one hundred thousandths. We got this, and it worked! We did multiple burnouts and my friend's kid ran the bike all weekend, as well as 4 runs down the drag strip. No head gasket issues or abnormalities to report.

    Don't forget to add octane booster or its going to ping like mad. You might want to bump up the timing if thats possible. Moroso makes a good octane booster additive. You can try vp alcohol if it runs too hot. Hope that helps.

    • @kimfixesthings
      @kimfixesthings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's got premium fuel in the tank already. I have made a modification that allows me to alter the timing since this is a fixed style timing setup. I was expecting to need a timing retarder for the boost, so luckily I have a plan in place so I can tune

    I cut Blower housings that are 2 inches thick on my table saw. Got a video on it.
    Just make sure the over lap of the valves dont hit. HINT HINT back in my clone days I did that to my piston to make room for the modified stock cam 🤫 which makes the piston lighter. Too bad I sold mine. You all are making me regret selling it.
    I love to cheat 😈

      In this case, there are no rules against engine modifications, as long as we use the same engine model to start. I'm really having fun and looking forward to showing this off at the event next week.

    Why don't you get a Predator 212cc non hemi (more reliable). It's a 4 stroke, OHV, 6.5 hp, single cylinder, that I'm sure would fit your frame, just barely, if you change out the air filter, stock exhaust, and take off the Predator gas tank and use the one already on your buke. With this engine you can get magneto coils and 3 magnet flywheels, if you want to run lights, you can over-ride the governor with a couple of zip-ties, if you want to go faster. You can get a Comet #30 variable pitch torque converter, that works like having a 3 speed automatic transmission. With unrestricted, clean flowing intake and exhaust, you're getting about 10 hp. You won't need to do anything more than re-jetting the stock carb, hang on, and have fun. Just one thing I should say is this setup likes to start off with the front wheel pointing straight up, so take it easy till you get used to it. It tames down, once you get moving. Be careful on corners, hard acceleration makes the front wheel light. This setup rides like a motorcycle, with an automatic transmission. I'm sure you'd love it.

      This build was for a special race that required the 98cc engine. Otherwise the 212 is a great engine upgrade and much cheaper/easier than doing a bunch of modifications to the smaller engine.
