I agree, friends started a rewatch and I just can’t. I have a hard time finding shows I really like and GOT was so amazing but that ending totally ruined the show.
Agree but imho it had problems going back to when they decided that white walkers were originally just some dudes that the children of the forest poked with some dragon glass. What a let down. Sometimes it is best to leave some lore as a mystery than giving it an unsatisfying origin story.
I fully agree with you. I rewatched s1 to s6 a lot and since s8 I have not watched a single episode again. They messed it up so bad , it’s a masterclass in how to mess things up.
In the show, white walkers are essentially just more robust wights; they seem to be entirely under the control of The Night King, and they're bound to him. As the Night King dies, they die as well. However, in the books, white walkers seem to have a culture and their own language, and on more than one occasion, they make an effort to communicate with people instead of straight-up attacking them. When we encounter an Other for the first time in the first book's prologue, Waymer Royce makes the first strike; the Other blocks it and speaks to him. Waymar interprets that as 'mocking' and keeps attacking it. Then, white walker strikes back.
The White Walkers/Others were better in the books as the primordial/ethereal race that preceded every race including the children and giants, and also weren’t a stupid hive mind that could be easily defeated. They weren’t telepathically and physically linked to each other nor their wight servants, they were creatures who’s first members rose from the icy grounds of the land of always winter as embodiments of magic, and they resurrected dead corpses using necromancy instead of the warging excuse from the show. They were portrayed in the tv series as mindless undead robots and zombies instead of the more sophisticated race they were as in the books as in the books they were capable of allowing themselves to communicate and be intelligent to negotiate and also had their own culture religion language and civilization. They required humans to reproduce as their were basically unborn and thus didn’t have the biological systems to reproduce and needed humans to make half living half undead offspring as well as using babies to magically turn into pure white Walker others as well thus why the Night’s King married a princess/sorceress from their kind. Also the tv show didn’t bring up nor introduce the ice spiders and also other phenomena beyond the wall such as the genie trolls that gave people monkey’s paw type wishes. So much wasn’t explored in the tv show.
You are making a lot of assumptions and have written your own ideas as if they are from the books. Ice spiders are not confirmed to real, no guarantee that the babies are turned into Others (crasters wives seem to hold this view but it not confirmed), we have no idea on the origin of the Others or whether they predate the children of the forest. As for the "genie trolls" I assume you are talking about snarks and grumpkins, once again no confirmation they exist. Where in the books does it say that wights are the result of necromancy as opposded to powerful warging skills?
if the Night king is the only one who can change the living into white walkers, why did the rest of the white walkers die when the one who created them was killed by jon and his company?
I assumed GRRM had a purpose for them beyond the shows scope. I assume something along the lines of raising the amount of total undead he can have at once. So if one of the general walkers die the night king himself loses power.
In that scene, there was only one White Walker present. The rest were "Wights," aka reanimated dead people. When Jon killed the sole White Walker, some but not all of the Wights died, so we're led to believe they were reanimated by, and under the control of that White Walker. This is explained in this video at 16:50
One thing that never made any sense was in season 2 or 3, when Jon, Sam and the others were patrolling beyond the wall and the 3 horn blasts went off, and the others ran back to the wall to get away, and Sam stayed behind because of fear and not being able to run. It shows the white walker basically stroll up beside him while he was hiding behind the rock and look at him, clearly see him and do nothing. They were maybe half a km or less from the wall, and it showed the army of the undead with a few white walkers clearly going to the wall to attack. Cut to the next episode and Sam is fine, no undead are attacking the wall and they aren't anywhere near the wall. That scene made absolutely no sense.
@@dornishwing that wouldn't make any sense. They don't like the living and they would just add him to the army of the dead. There was no real reason to leave him alive. The undead just attack any living person. They wouldn't just leave sam for shits and giggles.

They already knew the white walkers were sighted. There was no need to keep Sam alive for any reason.
