As a Southern boy, this bit is accurate.
If he truly doesn't do this routine in the South, that is just silly though. Southerners would just laugh it off, unless he is overly patronizing or stand-offish; if he is just ribbing them nobody will care (at least in my experience). Most folks in the South don't take themselves too seriously, and the ones that do aren't going to comedy clubs on the regular.
I was a career soldier and loved my rednecks. I had a Sgt. Vernon Dean who served under me and in civilian attire he wore a belt buckle with his initials on it. No matter how hard we tried to tell him that his buckle was just inappropriate , he just didn't get it.
Without getting too political, I left the republican party after the poorly named Patriot Act. But saying that I would take Bush over what we have now in a heart beat.
There's a dad joke with the "left the republican party" here, but I'm not gonna be the one to find it.

I don’t think that’s necessarily Bush, mostly the people who were around him. Dick Cheney being one of the main people, who really ran the show when it comes to the war on terror. Bush was mostly just ignorant and didn’t know what his VP and cabinet members were doing.
To tell you the truth I learned that republicans and Democrats are just fighting over policies they want to push through because Big Pharma, Big Tech, and big money guys have paid them to get the policies they want pushed through

I'm born and raised in south western VA. I was talking with a man one time, I asked if he was from Australia. He said England. I said " oh I noticed a twang in your accent". He said he had lived in this area for ten years. Hence the southern accent.

One of my redneck army friends was from War, West Virginia. I was from the Gum Swamp area in south eastern North Carolina. We were a lot alike, a hillbilly and a swamprat together in Viet Nam and volunteers at that. Yes, I'm proud of that..

I'm surrounded by these guys he's talking about and we are gun toting, family loving , God and country people and I'm talking black and white , race isn't a issue. @@smgdroid Trust me. The dude was just messing around. Most Southerners can tell you the range, distance, FPS of various ammo, and impact energy of said ammo. They will also know to shoot absolutely vertical where the bullet will have dissipated its energy so it won't kill someone coming down. Another thing is 99% of Southerners wouldn't attempt even a joke shot like that anyway because it's just a waste of expensive ammo and even with the dissipated energy would still have some slight danger.

Grew up in rural Virginia. Dad had 11 brothers and sisters. Only 2 out of the 12 never served in the military. At our family reunion, his branch of the family is not unusual. We ask veterans to raise their hands, and half the room stands up. On the truck thing - you need to check out Hardy's stuff- he's got a song "Rednecker" that features trucks, and "Unapologetically Country As Hell" definitely has the vibe Burr describes here.

Do you know one of the comedy legends, Bill Hicks? He's from Valdosta, Georgia? Son of a minister, turned atheist. Funny and insightful, has a dark nihilistic streak. He makes you think and sometimes laugh. One of my favourites, up there with Bill and Dave. He passed in 1994 of cancer at the age of 32. There are some great shows and parts on TH-cam.
hicks is a vertiable legend. a comedian's comedian. no one did what he did. i would recommend "sane man" video, or anything off audio releases: "arizona bay", "relentless", and "rant in e minor". family was southern baptist and considered themselves religious. so bill loved to mock his parents, dad esp. and loved to mock southern baptists, (tel)evangelists, religion generally, etc. but he wasn't the son a of a minister. he was also infinitely more agnostic than atheist (bbc interview: "there are no lines; i say, erase all the lines") & would often use transcendental meditation & psychedelics as spiritual tools.

Bill Burr is a true comedian, just hilarious...love him. Because he is a comedian I wouldn't take anything he says personally but I would like to note as a young man I was a combat arms soldier and nobody I served with WANTED to go into active combat, at least not after we'd served for a while, plus we weren't lunatics we were well organized, equipped and trained professionals. Some politically prejudiced people, who don't actually know me, would probably view me as a redneck (viewed as pejorative) to this day. However, among other things, I subsequently earned a graduate degree in economics from a graduate school anyone in academia would recognize. Let the pathetic actual bigots out there try and figure that one out.
