Y'all ain't wrong, I grew up on the Florida Georgia line in the late 70's early 80's, the similarities between the hood and the wood aren't far off.
Save the housing and dirt/paved roads, we all do the same damned things, drink/smoke a little, eat, music, dance, stare at beautiful bodies.

Up until I was about 20 I hadn't spent much time with white adults other than teachers. I never really conversed with white people in general even though I went to a 50-50 school.
Anyway, based on the sitcoms and commercials I used to watch growing up in the 80's I thought the white American diet consisted of spaghetti, meatloaf, pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, and on Thanksgiving turkey. When I got my job at about 20 I had the chance to work with white adults from 25-60. When those white people start talking about collard greens, black eye peas, corn, water melon, and chicken etc I was just floored. I then learned that most white people do use a rag in the shower. In the commercials they never used them. Long story short, I understood how ignorant I was of white people, what the went through, and what they believe. I learned lessons I still carry with me to this day.

@@Anidominus I had about the same experience but opposite. Was born and raised in a small town in Northern WI, never talked to a black person until I joined the military at 19 years old. I had thought black folks where mad, hated me, all gangsters and all the other stereotypes. Then I realized they are just like me, not much separated me from "them" The only thing that separated us was TV and the media. I grew up with SOME of the same struggles, ate the same foods, and wanted the same things out of life. We can all benefit from friends of other races and cultures. To me that is what I love about our country even though now that seems to becoming an issue again.

This is why I always say, "you shouldn't hate someone for a view you disagree on, love them for what you share." OK I kinda lied I don't always say that but I feel it and thats what matters, I find the people who get along best with everyone (including myself) find what they share with others and use that to bridge the gap, ive had friends who differed from me in so many ways but I found common ground with them almost immediately and I used that to make a new friend, it also helps that I can adjust my personality depending on the room so I can make sure I don't make people uncomfortable, not very drastically but I can make it so I dont ruin the vibe of a room, but yea I think everyone would get along more if we just found that common ground and tried to ignore how we differed at the end of the day.

He didn't tell me he lived in the Cabrini-Greens (and I didn't even know what that was at the time.) As we were walking up the stairs in the projects, Smoke turned around and said, "You know how you feel right now...we feel like that all the time." I never ate so good in my life - fatback and collards. I met the neighbors and the guys who worked the corner of the block. I got more education in one weekend than I did in four years of high school...I'd eat glass for those people.

As some white guy who grew up as a minority in a town full of Hicks and Mexicans (my homies back home), this was pretty spot on. A lot of the Mexican dudes lived in the towns hoods and we all got along rather well. Be chill, have fun, pass a j, that’s something worth living to do. We also had a lot of wannabe gang bangers but, I didn’t show fear or lack of respect at the same time, level playing field and a respectable one at that. You aren’t above or below me homie, let’s crack a cold one and chill. I don’t know if that is really the same in other places but, being confident without being a prick takes you far, you are harder to fuck over and you aren’t putting others down, breeds a mutual respect, especially when you get the chance to pass a j around and make friends.

I started laughing when you brought up the pig's feet thing every gas station in Florida sells pigs feet even corporate ones like mobile and circle k pigs feet is not a hood thing it's a down South thing. I went to the grocery store one time and seen a big ass cow tongue also stomach lining and chicken feet in the meat section 😂 I didn't go to the hood to find out what it was I asked my grandma she told me everything about what meals you make at it each of those and it's cuz she was raised on a farm.

@@BobPapadopoulos and obviously but I didn't know that pigs feet were called trotters... Trotters and pettitoes are other names for pig's feet. Different communities around the world eat this visually striking cut of meat in different ways. Don't forget you always use the chicken or turkey neck to make broth with to make the gravy to go on the mashed potatoes also with some blood from the heart and the feet in there too I don't know about you but it's nasty as hell when you bite into some potatoes and you feel a crunch and it's a damn turkey claw.
