If you been in the industry long enough, you would remember the games AMD played from 1995-2015. 5 years is not enough of a benchmark for me to trust them.
I found something interesting. If I used the Intel Default Profile and MCE off on my 12900K, I found my temperatures were incredibly high, sometimes hitting upwards of 95C+ in games. I'm seeing the same with the 13700k which is curious. I wonder if Asus is now optimizing Intel defaults with their profile and the intel profile default isn't really the safer settings.
thats due to intel's high LLC and VID specifications. ASUS and motherboard vendors were undervolting the cpus out of the box via ACLL and DC_LL....which is actually a good thing.
I bought an i7-14700K on a B760 Gaming X AX in January. The PC ran completely without issues for almost 11 months, and I was satisfied. Last week, a BIOS update came through the Gigabyte software, and since then, I've only had problems, with the PC freezing constantly. I've tried everything: system restore, different BIOS versions, various driver combinations, and even a complete reinstall. It feels like the issue can’t be reversed now, even though it ran smoothly for 11 months. I haven't changed any components or settings.

I have a similar issue, my 14700KF seems to be causing complete system lock up. It was random at first but within a week it turned into what it seems to be a permanent issue. My computer will boot past bios but then will freeze either immediately after putting my PIN or sometimes it won’t even get that far.
There is nothing wrong with your computer. The problem is that the update/reinstall/default settings changed settings in your bios. See if you don't know, don't change stuff. There is no reason to update bios on a 11 month old computer. So because of this new settings, you now don't know which are changed and you should double check your bios settings, like everything. From cpu clock/volts to Memory ram clocks/volts to other advanced settings 4g decoding, rebar, turbo boost, c states, e cores. Some motherboard has certain 'modes' that might be changed as well like turbo power limits, game boost ect ect. I know 100% your watts/voltage are higher then it should that's why you get freezing, stuttering and poor performance. Because your setting are changed and if you restored it to default then you messed it up even more and you need to set everything manually again. Good luck 👍
I did the same test with my 13600k and ended up with around 1.4v and around 90'C in HWinfo. What fixed it was going into the 'SVID Behaviour' settings and selecting 'Best Case Scenario'. Now my Voltages are around 1.2 - 1.25 during Cinebench.
ive always done manual OC's on my PCs so i wouldnt be surprised that the motherboard manufactures or even intel are aware of the overvoltes of their "Auto" settings
The problem we have here, is at present, we can't even trust Intel's instrumentation on these chips. These chips have been known to report that they are running cooler than ambient, which is physically impossible. It could be that part of the reason these updates Intel keeps put out are not working, is because their algorithms don't have the proper information coming from the reporting.
@@bujin5455 it happened to me as well, i am getting some core temps 2 degrees below ambient (at idle) lol... like is this breaking fundamental laws of thermodynamics? lol my cooler often gives 2-3 degrees delta above ambient, but its hard to believe even lower temps.
The reason the voltages you read out where still so high is that these where the VID or the voltage that the CPU requests not supplied voltage After the microcode update there is most of the time a quite big gap between VID and Vcore
The value we need to check is the Vcore on the motheboard info panel in HWINFO? under the MOS / PCH etc values? What are the numbers to check to know if there is a degradation? thanks
@@BornIntoThis20 The thing is that you cant really check for degradation just through the voltages. Even the bin of the CPU changes the voltage curve/frequency curve, with lower quality silicon increasing required voltages. The only way to kinda gauge if and a rough estimate of possible degradation is through undervolting and benchmarking to find the lowest stable voltage

Initially I went through all the undervolt msi Liteload presets with extended stress tests (OOCT and all) to find out mode 6 was the lowest truly stable one. Never had any crash ever since, Vcore doesn't go higher than 1,397 V without undervolt or with it and it still performs as new under CBR23. Does it means I'm good for this issue or I'll have to check again the benchmarks and stress tests results regularly under different UV modes to be sure? (Z790i - 13700k - 8 months old bios..) If I understand correctly the new microcode will resolve the problem completly but introducing some perfomance limitations or anything?
@@BornIntoThis20 That sounds about good as the most common threshhold currently people are targeting to stay under is about 1.4 V. Im using a 13700kf (so basically the same chip) and the highest im seeing my Vcore spike after setting my AC loadline down to 0.35 is 1.355 V so I am betting on that being low enough
There is something so many of these builders, and recommendations do not consider. Some of us CANNOT bring our chips back to retailer, as that would leave us without a running system. Waiting 6-8 lifetimes for an RMA to be rejected doesn't solve my computer issues when I have a WFH shift tonight. If the suggestion is RMA, then stow it and just suggest we buy AMD.
Hey. I've had the same issue as you do. After reaching Intel's support, they denied me the "cross-shipping" option which is basically "Send me the new CPU and i'll send you the faulty one after". After explaning why it was important for me to have it, i asked the same question 3 times and eventually they escalated the ticket to some higher resp. which granted me the cross-shipping. You should try and be as annoying as you can, eventually they will accept.

@@digitalmagick I am confused, cross-shipping would eliminate downtime, the idea is that you will have your faulty CPU running, albeit not so well, until you get a new one in the mail to replace it and send back the faulty one. I don’t see how they can do anything about the shipping time.
The bios update is the best thing I've done for my computer recently. Temperatures dropped by over 20 degrees for an i5 14600kf. Earlier, when Blender Cycles on the CPU, temperatures went to 100 in 3 seconds, now it was max 81. After a longer time, when the processor goes into long time power limit mode, temperatures drop even more.
14900k user. Asus ROG Strix z790. The latest bios raised my voltages past 1.5v and increased temperatures across the board so I went back to my old bios v1102 and everything is a lot better. Pl1=125 PL2=253 ICC Max=307. MCE disabled. All Cores 57x. Voltage never passes 1.3v and temps never above 75c. Smooth sailing. I will wait till the mid August microcode update and see if it's any better at that time.
Exactly same with 13900k and z790 strix e wifi II Asus motherboard. As everyone is saying to do that I updated bios to 1402 and had mine first crash since 8 months with unreal engine. Switched back to 1201 and 5 days of playing. Not a single crash
@@evan-du3vk yeah exactly same Mobo and results as me with the new Bios. It's like they're trying to kill our CPUs faster. And almost all of these tech TH-cam channels are pushing the new BIOS which make it worse.
Same here w r.t to boost frequency but I see as far as 1.5v for a short burst of time and then settles somewhere in 1.4v range . My mobo Asus Rog strix b760 I gaming .
Dont forgot to mention that the Usb drive needs to be reformatted to FAT32 by right clicking on the drive. That ensures the drive is cleared completely in preparation for the CAP file.
Why can’t i run neither of XMP profiles without having crashes? I have 4 ram slots 64gb (16gb each) 6800mhz. When i run the lowest xmp 6000mhz it crashes and it does for even higher. I got i9-14900k rtx4090 Z790 maximus formula. Any fix for this beside lowering mhz of ram to 5600mhz or any lower numbers?
I heard something a while ago that there's stability issues with people who run 4 dimm configurations of DDR5 RAM. I would try running your system with 1-2 sticks and see if you still crash. While that might not be what you wanna hear, and might not fix your issue; that was a problem for a lot of people which is why I stuck to 2 sticks. Edit: added 2 words for specificity
@@chrissoto4878 i have 3 xmp profiles for 6000mhz 6400mhz and 6800mhz it works for me on 6000mhz profile but manually put it to 5200mhz on 4 sticks. I have tried two a while ago and still couldn’t run XMP profiles as they are but going to try tomorrow and let you know the case. Thanks for the reply
Just as a notifier for my budget friends out there. You got an i5-13500, i5-13400, i3-13100. Don't worry your die size is at 215 square mm, you have an alder lake die and therefore are less affected by the so called "Raptor Lake issues".
@@_Mystic1978_ for me intel default settings applied too high voltage so i went to asus optimized and set some limits, on volt vcore -o.o5 and cpu vid to -0.04 and under stress test my voltage wont go over 1.38 and max temp is about 82C on a 13700k

I didn't know about that setting but I changed it for my i7-14700K and I went from 31853 (multicore) and 2196 (single core) points on Cinebench R23 with vcore of 1.46v to 30773 (multicore) and 2074 (single core) points with vcore of 1.323 which I don't mind... Temps also decreased a lot.
After update of the BIOS, the Vcore went down, from 1,45V to 1,30 V. the temp of the p-cores went down from 85+ C to 73 degrees C whith my I5 13600KF. Maybe it was nothing to worry about bit it did lower temps, and that is always good. the results with Cinebench went down a little as well, since the CPU got down from 110% to 100% at testing. In realtime conditions these lower results aren;t noticeble. Thank you for the info .
Try an offset to voltages(over and above intel defaults) to under-volt your CPU, I've undervolted mine (0.1v) and it has helped the temperatures dramatically and mine still happily turbos to 5.3Ghz all core for the first 56 Sec.
I got a 13980HX laptop... what can we laptop owners do? I'm still under warranty from Asus and I haven't had any issues but I've been undervolting the CPU and since I first became aware of this have been limiting its power usage to around 55-75w and also increased the fan speeds to keep it running cool. Going to reapply new thermal paste soon as well.

I read that supposedly Vrel for 13th gen is 1.45V under 70c, and 1.3V for 100c. It's probably fine to run those voltages at idle anyway, if you're scared about them disable 2-core boost, that's mostly what makes high requests I think. Depends on silicon too, worst i9 14900k will want 1.5V for 6Ghz, best one 1.4V (based on igor's lab article) About running cinebench on my system, I'm running 14900ks with -110mV offset (dunno LLC, as it's auto, left most voltages at auto/default) limited to 253/253 it's running with 1.2V, at light loads averages 1.3V.

14700k, Asus Z790 ProArt, enhanced profile but manually undervolted as soon as I built the PC. Perfectly stable for near a year now and my voltage never went over 1.36.

@@stevenstramturean Dead easy brother...soon as i built mine, i put a minus 0.0750 offset in and its at 1.275v all the time now max.. was at about 1.360v before which is prob okay but i didnt like it especially if i can lower it alot and still be rock stable... Just hop into the bios find your vcore setting sometimes called diff things depending on the board and you will see offset, press that hit minus then dial in a -0.500 or something, test at that with a game as stesstests dont always bring faults, my experience of building and tweaking intel for over a decade, multiple systems, gaming is where you will see crashes more often than say cinibench or OCCT sometimes, so see if that works, if it does lower the offset some more until you get crashes, it will take time, ya know, i did mine in 5 mins, but if your new it may take an hour or so... But i know what im clicking and looking for instantly... and then just go abit everytime in the bios, soon as you get the crashes, bring it back up by -0.150 maybe then you should be on the good side of the unstable and at the lowest voltage you can have... Its super easy bro... and if you do something bad u always have reset cmos to go back to all the defaults you got it with... I think mine will go lower but i did a quick and dirty offset and its working like a charm... cinibench r23 doesnt go higher than 63c and gaming its around 53c ish... so super cool.
Just updated my Z790 Carbon wifi and again nno issues but I always fix or use adaptive vcore with a max limit of 1.325v...I have never let the motherboard handle voltages on auto as it is just abbsurd and can go over 1.45v with ease and it just is not needed. 1.3v should be enough to allow any 13th and 14th gen to boost properly and 1.350v if you really want to push for max scores. Getting 41K in cinebench r23 multi test with temps all under control though using a 360mm aio.
I have a 14900K, an ASUS Maximum Z970 Dark Hero, and the latest 1402 BIOS with the 0x125 microcode update. I kept the AI Overclock Tuner set to AUTO and the DRAM frequency to DDR-6400 MHz. I see 6400 MHz in the memory section of the Performance tab in Windows Task Manager, so it appears stable with the AI Overclock Tuner at AUTO.
I own i9-14900k, latest bios 2402 on ROG STRIX Z790-H GAMING WIFI VID MAX reach at max 1.492V 96°C and average is around 1.18V, before I always undervolted -0.07 V but bios 2402 with intel default does not allow it anymore, I do not find the offset option. Using Arctic Liquid Freezer III 420 with push pull and no throtling at all. Congratulations for your channel, I learned a lot from you !!
Intel default bios enables undervolt protection setting. search for it in bios and disable. Restart. Go back to bios and now you can undervolt again if thats what you want to do.

I actually did this my self with my 14600kf and i also had high core voltages going to 1.440v and the ghz dropping from 5.3 to 5.1 because it was hitting the 181w limit. So i did an undervolt, fixed the voltages to 1.145 and everything is stable and it runs on its boost clocks easily. 5.3 p cores and 4 ghz e cores stable. And the temperatures went from 96° to 60-70° on 100% load.
HI, I have 14600k and I have been using microcode 0X123 for about 7 months now. I updated my bios to 0X12B but I noticed worse performance on R23 multi core and my games on average were running about 20 watts higher. also my V core was higher at around 1.3-1.35 V. I ended up downgrading back to 0X123 and my v core is around 1.2-1.25 and my core vids is also around 1.2 v. Would you consider this safe or should i update my bios back to 0X12B? So far I have not experienced any bsod and I don't think I have any CPU degradation as my R23 scores are the same since day one and I have not seen any game crashes. Also is there any way to check for CPU degradation? I am using a 360 AIO and max temps that I have seen on R23 is around 86C. Sorry for all the questions. I just wanna make sure this CPU lasts as I cant really afford to replace it if it breaks. Let me know if you need any other info. Thanks again!
If you have a 13400f or 13600k just enjoy. The server devs released the failure rates and said the 13600k was less then 2% so enjoy. Mine is perfect and people need to remember motherboard manus are and have been replying bios that don't allow it to go over 1.4volts my asus motherboard already did it and ive never ever ever had and issue yet. I got lucky I didn't run it before that. It's stable has never crashed and is running fantasticly.
Do you have any sources for that 2%? It sounds about right (13600K is not even mentioned in warframe crash report) but I would be interest to know more. I'm also an owner of stable 13600K (so far), so that's why I'm interested.
Its neck and neck with the 12600k but yes. Luckily my new 13600k is very nice also. Hasnt gone over 1.4volts I swear asus has there bios dialed in. I havent had to touch a single thing. Also i had no idea the 13600k was so good lol. @multiicore_
@@reviewforthetube6485 it’s neck and neck but the 13400f runs like 200-300mhz slower on the p cores as it is designed for a 65w tdb and that crap stock cooler. It’s not like it’s 10 times slower than the 12600k lol. It’s Alder Lake so it’s fine. I’d tweak the 13600k if I was you tbh. Disable pointless 1-2 core boost. I5s generally run around 1.3 Volts so you don’t really need to undervolt. But definitely do disable the 1-2 core boost. Raptor Lake was a rushed out architecture.
You need to monitor the Vcore voltage not the Core VID, as Core ViDs is the voltage requested by the CPU, while the Vcore is the actual voltage sent to CPU.
It is super important for people to suspend BitLocker and save the recovery key before attempting this. Otherwise, if you run disk encryption (which you should!!) you will lose your data.
On my 14600K i have set the IA VR Limit to 1400 mV and the highest I've seen is 1.372 V. Before setting the limit the max I saw was 1.403 V. Running cinebench 24 it goes anywhere from 1.250 to 1.270 V while keeping all p-core 5ghz (and 2-3 of them 5.1ghz). Max temp 92C with freezer 36 cooler.
I don't think this is well known enough - to find the part in the BIOS that can limit the CPUs internal voltage regulator, rather than the more obvious VID settings etc. I set mine to 1400 and my Cinebench score went up by 300 points. 13700k on a Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite X. Max 80 degrees with a EK 240mm AIO.

As said: The 0x125 bios will give more Vcore and temp! Do not download unless you are having stability issues. This bios is done from broken CPU's! I had the same issue and tackled it at once! Wait till the new Intel microcode gets out!
@@ZombieLincoln666 It did not matter if i used intel fail safe because that is what the standard according to intel should be. Also the Asus extreme profile had to much voltage. I just limited the SVID in total now and not exceeding 1.275volts in any scenario. CPU stays cool and performance is not really inpacted. Also way beter powerwise, consuming a lot less watts.
I updated the bios, but also manually set the Intel specfied parameters, like TDP, iccMax, and other things, and also set a undervolt, and my i7 14700KF is running at 60 degrees in games, and 80 degrees in cinebench r23. I don't know what they do in this "intel Default Settings", but it is way too hot for my taste.
what settings did you applied ? PL1 125 & PL2 253W ? I did the same with 14700KF cooled with 360 arctic liquid freezer 2 but I'm reaching > 90 degrees. What's your multiscore in cinebench r23 ? thanks for your reply :)
@@vincenthibschele8929 Hi, I manually set 253W on PL1 and PL2, also set 56 seconds on PL1 and PL2 Power Limit Time. And I also set 307A on iccMAX. This settings are the official recommended settings for a i7 14700. But I aplied a undervolt of -0.100V on Vcore offset. Because this are the Intel Official Settings for the CPU, no performance change was notible, you will get the CPU stock perfomance. But before you do all that, you must certify that your water cooler is propelly optimized to performe well. Good Luck!
Still better than AMD tbh. This situation was the norm for AMD chips a few years ago, but nobody batted an eye. Now that it's Intel, everyone wants to chime in and throw their worthless 2¢. Goes to show how big Intel is compared to AMD.

And your CPU doesn't run minty cool, it runs at the same temps as a 14900k in games, and it's not that much faster in games either, plus it's crap in productivity where the 14900k beats it sometimes by 200% higher performance. Yea, must be nice having a CPU that's a one trick pony, except in some cases even that one trick doesn't work, as the v-cache doesn't work in all games or all the time reliably.
Since i updated my Z790 Gaming x ax to version F11 i got so many stutter and crash issues with my pc. still not fixed, many people got the same issue like u can see on the gigabyte reddit
Switching to AMD means that you will find out again... Their chips will also degrade because of the continuously 95 degrees... You have to tune your Intel chips manually mate and they will live for ever 😉
Although there's truth in what you're saying, this current issue is unique in that the CPU was drawing in high voltages during minimal tasks that was stemming directly from the microcode. So this issue was sort of baked in and happening despite any tuning as far as I understand.
@@timotmon it wasn't stemming directly from the microcode. It's also the motherboard manufacturers. The microcode is mainly going to help users that don't want to go into the BIOS and change the settings manually.

same I have the Asus Strix B760-F motherboard with the same bios it shipped with and my i7 13700k is running just fine with around 1.28v (sometimes hitting 1.33v), temps just under 90c (on full load) and CPU package at 253w under full load (tends to sit at 35w when not doing much).
@@Canadian76 - I have it set to not go over 90c and I think I have a slight undervolt but cant remember, under 100% load it can spike to 1.442v but for the most part its around 1.33

@@AyataHiragi Voltage has never gone over 1.388 on the P cores, and 1.344 on the E cores,(Only while gaming )so that's a good sign I think. It's normally below a volt while browsing, sometimes spiking to around 1.2 briefly for a split second. Temps don't go over 84c in stress tests using stock LIM, and hardly ever spiking above 62c(64c sometimes)while running Forbidden West for hours on max settings 1080p getting an average of 120FPS. Idle temps stay below just below 30c using Deepcool AIO. Motherboard is a Z790 MSI P WIFI.

Power limit aint gonna fix this because the problem is with single core boost and a 14900k boosting on 2 cores to 6ghz does not exceed a 125W power limit. Set ratio limit per core to whatever your cpu goes on all core boost example with i9 14900k 2 cores go to 6ghz and 5,6ghz with all cores so u need to set all the cores with a limit 5,6ghz. Another thing you can do is set a core voltage limit but that depends what cpu you got for example with 14900k i would set 1,4V max

This is why everyone should learn to overclock and monitor voltage . I’ve had my 13700k since launch cores locked to 5.5 ghz at 1.32v and no issues since release date
I own a 12700k, I'm not directly impacted by the entire fiasco, but tbh, I lost my entire trust in Intel... From the fact that they are still selling the impacted units, all the way in how they have handled the situation
they are fine when you buy them but degrade much faster than they should. Raptor Lake is just a beefed up to 11 Alder Lake in order to compete with Zen 4. Half-baked architecture.
Just updated to latest bios, 13700k pushing above 1.5v under idle. All default intel settings. Temps are terrible under cinebench load. Dont know what to do at this point
@etissite i ended up fixing it. After changing to intel default settings profile, changing sa cep and ia cep to auto fixed the low cinebench score and changing svid behavior to auto fixed the 1.5v idle
Lol, don't be an Intel guinea pig. They don't have enough time to test if a BIOS update fixes or further degrades the CPU's in question, much less CPU's that don't have an issue. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you have a 13th or 14th gen that doesn't have issues, don't update your BIOS. Wait for others to test it out for you, first.

Did you know you can just adjust the settings in the bios to avoid this problem? There are people that did that on day one and their chips are fine. The microcode is just for people that don't know how, or are too afraid to go into their bios and change a few settings. I'm glad people are scared about this though. I was just able to pick up a brand new Amazon returned 13700k for $230, and now it has a 5-year warranty. Worst case scenario I'll have my chip I paid half price for replaced with a brand new one. 😂 Btw, Intel has been in business for decades, their microcode will work. It's not rocket science. All it's doing is automating what you could do yourself in the bios manually. You're not qualified to speak on this or give out advice.
I undervolted my CPU manually since day 2 of completing my build and haven't updated with May or June microcode since I know I don't need the TVB fixes for my 14700k. I would say with authority that the anxiety even if I've undervolted and my max Vcore so far of 1.344v is not worth it. This is most especially due to intel being shady and not providing clear stance and not even stating which part of the CPU has the degredation problem. Is it the oxidation? Is it just the cores? Is it the IMC getting damaged (which would cause memory instability or program crashes and frequent BSODs )? Is it the cache? There are many people on reddit that turned off cores/downclocked and BSODs go away and there are others that have tried those and what everyone guesses a damaged IMC would be a definitely dead CPU. After all, I bought the damn CPU because I trusted intel that it would be more stable on plenty of programs than AMD aside from my need with highly threaded workloads of editing. Turns out I'm at risk of accelerated degradation without knowing if my undervolt is enough to get the CPU to last me at least 5 years of use without any headaches.
I have a 13600k on a msi z690 pro p ddr4 mobo. There's a setting called cpu lite load. Have put it on mode 3 after trial and error. Now the cpu runs on 1.2v max all core load and the performance is within 1 percent of mobo default settings. Default max temp in cine bench was 95c and with mode 3 it's high 70s in cinebemch and low 70s in gaming. Using a deepcool assassin 3 for cooling. It's worth a try for those with msi mobos

I have tuned my 14900k since 2023 and runs fine. Ia cep and cep off, llc 4, ac line .28 and DC line 0.98. Short and long duration 253w. Vcore sits @1.38v under load temps around 80. Have tested multiple dx12 games and vx2 stress test. Hope stays like that.
Not everyone wants AMD. They simply cannot complete with intel for clock speed and multi core power for the same money. Without the extra L3 cache, they would be useless. Even the new AMD 9700x cannot compete with even the i7 14700. If it wasnt for the stability issues, intel would be dominating.

When testing for performance my 14900K, fixed at 1.325v temps high 80's early 90's when running Cinebench R23 with a 41K cinebench r23 multi score. For daily use, fixed vcore 1.3v and again no issues and temps even better. Also I would never lead vcore on auto. Set a fixed or adaptive with a max 1.350v limit as that will provide all the performance and more without any temprature issues whatsoever.
When I did a test in Cinebench today I got over 1.4 volts in core VIDs, core temp and cpu package temp of 100 C maximum and a result of about 38000. I noticed PL1 and PL2 were set on default. All I did was set IA VR Voltage Limit to 1400, set PL1 to 125W and PL2 to 253W as shown on Intel website for 14700k and disabled enhanced-multicore performance. Now the result is about 29500 but core VIDs voltage does not go above 1.390, and core temp and cpu package temp go up to 90 C.

They forgot to add one 0. Its not 10% but 100%. Every, again every 13th and 14th gen intel CPU is affected. Even 65W ones. If cpu is undervolted, procesy of degradation is just slower.
13900k I've used for a few years on custom water. Voltages on latest bios is around 1.3v idle and 1.25 under load. The only thing I have tweaked with the latest bios is increasing my power limits since even under load my temps are under 75C.
I have a slightly earlier bios version. I currently have voltage offset by -30mV (from day 1). Voltage peaks at 1.18v in cinebench r23 and manages a score of ~35500
Always make sure you research user feedback and comments on a new BIOS before updating to the latest one. See if people with your same motherboard or similar family board are having any major issues with the latest BIOS before you update it. I recently made the mistake of not reading comments on one of the latest BIOS updates for my motherboard and had to roll back to the previous BIOS to fix all of the instability and crashes I was suddenly getting.
I'm on Z690 DDR4 Gigabyte with a 13700K and similar issues with still high voltages being requested by the CPU with the newest BIOS. With Intel default profile I also went in to manually set PL1/PL2 to 253W, IccMax to 307A, IA VR to 1385 (1.385V) and undervolted by -75mV adaptive offset. Cinebench R23 multicore scores now at 28,200ish. With only applying the Intel defaults profile, peak CPU temps hit ~86c, with the rest of my limits applied, ~76c
I have a similar setup as you, 13700k + Gigabyte z690 gaming X DDR4. I'm still on a F21 BIOS Version though. What's your turbo power limit set to? Mine is set to Intel POR which limits the PL1/PL2 to 253W, but after testing i've noticed a huge performance loss in C R23. My multicore result went from 30167 (all bios default settings + XMP) to 17545.
My i7 13700K was sometimes reaching 1.5v even with the latest bios, but after locking all my cores at 53x (5.3Ghz), it only goes up to 1.4v rarely now. I heard (and noticed in HWinfo) that it was 2 of my cores that sometimes would boost to 5.4Ghz and then also wanting to pull upwards of 1.5v. I'm still going to try to see if I can reduce the core voltage a little further though. So to keep you CPU from cooking you should really lock all your cores to the same default boost of the CPU you are running to avoid the "single" core boost that Intel has implemented.
@@epeksergastis As I have already locked all cores to 5.3Ghz, I don't experience the single-two core boost anymore, or at least not to the degree as before, if I'm understanding correctly, and my voltage is at 1.35 now, so that's the only thing I want to try to get a little lower, but I haven't experienced any type of problems since I bought and built my PC back at the start of November '23. Also in all of this debacle, I've noticed that generally, it's been people with ASUS boards who have been having problems, and it's not to shift blame unto the board manufacturers, but I still think that it needs to be discussed why this is the case. I had to go with an Asrock board, as there was no ASUS boards in my price range that would fit my requirements, and as I've said, I haven't had any problem since I built my system, oh except for a bad RAM stick that died after a few months.
@@TigonIII Asus has that automatic OC crap which overvolts like crazy. 1.35 is fine, if you can go lower would be dope. Raptor Lake was a rushed out architecture.
I just went full on safe mode until the bios update. Underclocked my 13600K to 4,5 GHz / 3,5 GHz and disabled xmp. And the performance drop is not even that huge, I have 21k in cinebench r23 multicore (instead of 23k stock) and 1750 single core (I don't remeber the original number but it was something colse to 2000). Temps and power consumption dropped even more, 60C max on AK620 and 100W under full load. And maximum Vcore is now 1,08V instead of stock 1,3V. This is obviously an overkill, but I probably won't go back to stock settings after the update, something like 4,8 GHz (P) / 3,7 GHz (E) seems perfectly fine for me, while not pushing the chip to its limits. PS. My cpu is also slightly undervolted since the begging with vf curve points (- 90mV at max frequency) and with lite load set to mode 6.
CPU:13900k: Vid Max 1.528. Package max power: 253W. I've noticed with the new BIOS the power is maintained, where previously is still jumped to like 285W. The voltage is still very high, although under load the voltage goes down to 1.25.
I've been using a 13700F for over an year now without a BIOS update - not a single issue so far, temps under load can reach 100C for short periods but only 1.2-1.3V on average. May update BIOS once Intel release the new microcode but only after I see tests.
I keep hearing bad things about ucode 129, so I stuck with ucode 125. I then undervolted by -.100v. It keeps my max VID and Vcore under 1.4v. It actually raised my R23 score from 35.5K to about 38.5K as well. Fingers crossed this keeps my 14900KF safe.
Updated my MSI motherboard to the latest and had to go back to the previous bios. My system started running hotter so hopefully the next bios update will be better off

had zero issues the entire time with my 13600k i got used running 5.3ghz latest bios stock volts v1.22 guess im really lucky, that said it wasnt really pushed hard yet.
I updated to the latest bios on MSI Z790 GAMING PRO WIFI for my i7-14700KF hoping it will resolve the crashing and bluescreens and unexpected shut downs. I just gave up and returned back to my MSI B550 Gaming Plus paired with AMD R9 5900x no issues at all. I just wasted a lot of money sadly on Z790 GAMING PRO WIFI and Intel CPU

I have a small mini pc from minisforum AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with external Dock PCIE 3.0/External PSU its running well and no issues at all. I heard there are too concerns over Intel new gen processors Ultra etc and instability issues. Stick with AMD processors AM4/AM5 builds. I am planning to buy AMD Ryzen 7 9700x (AMD new processors) soon.

They work or they don't, you can't "cook" it to the point where it malfunctions, as at that point it would simply cease to work altogether. CPUs work flawlessly, or not at all.
I have never seen my i7 13700k go above 1,360V (with CEP disabled) and i still have my first BIOS from 2022 when i bought my ASUS Prime Z790. I also have no issues with my CPU. Everyone recommends that you set IA & SA CEP to ENABLED in BIOS, but when i do that, my VID voltages jump to 1,45V. When i leave it on DISABLED, my voltages never go above 1,360V.
First of all you need to find the lowest value of AC Line Load at which you won’t experience any throttling or instability. Right down to 0.01 mOhms if possible. Then you need to adjust the DC value to make the Core VIDs equal to real voltage (Vcore). Everything else can be ignored. Not only it will solve this issue but it will reduce the temperatures too.
We have 250 Dell's with these chips in.. Zero issues. Everything was correctly setup to begin with as they got it right out of the box. I have similar at home and guess what, i setup and updated the bios correctly. One set of chips were bad... So what, not like amd didn't do that a few years ago or all the macbook keyboards broke for four years.
Thank you for posting this. Just returned a 13th Gen i9 and got a replacement under warranty. Now I need fix the BIOS after an update failed with the faulty CPU - I could not access the BIOS after the update. I will try Q Flash plus in the Gigabyte Aero G Z790 before fitting the new Intel i9-14900K. The issue might have been the file name not being renamed to 'GIGABYTE.bin' on the USB - although every instruction suggested the rename only if updating without the CPU.
@theTechNotice it's important to specify that a lot of BIOS Update that contains the new microcode are marked as Beta-BIOS which means it could remove the motherboard warranty
im not sure about the i7 13700HX , but there have been cases of the i9 14900hx failing and is effected by the same issue , and I highly doubt Intel will adress that laptops cpus are also effected since they took 2 whole years to address the effect of the 13th and 14th gen
Yes, the problem lies in the voltages not total amount of power. Use a Vcore monitoring software that can log the max Vcore that it hits. Make sure it never goes past 1.4v. The max I would go for is usually 1.3v but my 14700k is power hungry and would impact performance once I was try to max out at lower than 1.35 v. If you are hitting past 1.4v, undervolt that thing.
so i have an i9 13900k more than a year now with no real issues, so my question is this issue affecting all intel chips on 13th and 14th gen or some of them?
Same mine is fine my temps are super low, lower than 50c most of the time, has it since early June of last year, no crashes or anything. Just wish there was a way of checking like the sku and going oh mines not in that list therefore I’m ok etc… I’d like a defining answer as well.
only some cpus are effected , but if your cpu is not effected them its recommended to update it to the new bios and use the recommended settings since it will prevent the cpu from frying , if its already crashing then its better to replace the cpu .
If I understand correctly 13th gen models below 65W TDP are still based on alder lake architecture and are not affected, so you shoud be safe. If the update actually prevents any further damage, you could go for 13th / 14th but I would wait at least untill 2025 and see if it changed anything. Untill then, yeah, you should probably limit yourself for 12th gen if you want to upgrade.

thats due to intel's high LLC and VID specifications. ASUS and motherboard vendors were undervolting the cpus out of the box via ACLL and DC_LL....which is actually a good thing.

I bought an i7-14700K on a B760 Gaming X AX in January. The PC ran completely without issues for almost 11 months, and I was satisfied. Last week, a BIOS update came through the Gigabyte software, and since then, I've only had problems, with the PC freezing constantly. I've tried everything: system restore, different BIOS versions, various driver combinations, and even a complete reinstall. It feels like the issue can’t be reversed now, even though it ran smoothly for 11 months. I haven't changed any components or settings.

I have a similar issue, my 14700KF seems to be causing complete system lock up. It was random at first but within a week it turned into what it seems to be a permanent issue. My computer will boot past bios but then will freeze either immediately after putting my PIN or sometimes it won’t even get that far.
There is nothing wrong with your computer. The problem is that the update/reinstall/default settings changed settings in your bios.
See if you don't know, don't change stuff. There is no reason to update bios on a 11 month old computer.
So because of this new settings, you now don't know which are changed and you should double check your bios settings, like everything.
From cpu clock/volts to
Memory ram clocks/volts to other advanced settings 4g decoding, rebar, turbo boost, c states, e cores. Some motherboard has certain 'modes' that might be changed as well like turbo power limits, game boost ect ect.
I know 100% your watts/voltage are higher then it should that's why you get freezing, stuttering and poor performance. Because your setting are changed and if you restored it to default then you messed it up even more and you need to set everything manually again.

I did the same test with my 13600k and ended up with around 1.4v and around 90'C in HWinfo. What fixed it was going into the 'SVID Behaviour' settings and selecting 'Best Case Scenario'. Now my Voltages are around 1.2 - 1.25 during Cinebench.
Typical scenario is actually the one to use The Best Case will crash because it is running too lean.

ive always done manual OC's on my PCs so i wouldnt be surprised that the motherboard manufactures or even intel are aware of the overvoltes of their "Auto" settings
The problem we have here, is at present, we can't even trust Intel's instrumentation on these chips. These chips have been known to report that they are running cooler than ambient, which is physically impossible. It could be that part of the reason these updates Intel keeps put out are not working, is because their algorithms don't have the proper information coming from the reporting.
@@bujin5455 it happened to me as well, i am getting some core temps 2 degrees below ambient (at idle) lol... like is this breaking fundamental laws of thermodynamics? lol my cooler often gives 2-3 degrees delta above ambient, but its hard to believe even lower temps.
The reason the voltages you read out where still so high is that these where the VID or the voltage that the CPU requests not supplied voltage
After the microcode update there is most of the time a quite big gap between VID and Vcore

@@BornIntoThis20 The thing is that you cant really check for degradation just through the voltages. Even the bin of the CPU changes the voltage curve/frequency curve, with lower quality silicon increasing required voltages. The only way to kinda gauge if and a rough estimate of possible degradation is through undervolting and benchmarking to find the lowest stable voltage

Initially I went through all the undervolt msi Liteload presets with extended stress tests (OOCT and all) to find out mode 6 was the lowest truly stable one. Never had any crash ever since, Vcore doesn't go higher than 1,397 V without undervolt or with it and it still performs as new under CBR23. Does it means I'm good for this issue or I'll have to check again the benchmarks and stress tests results regularly under different UV modes to be sure? (Z790i - 13700k - 8 months old bios..) If I understand correctly the new microcode will resolve the problem completly but introducing some perfomance limitations or anything?

Im using a 13700kf (so basically the same chip) and the highest im seeing my Vcore spike after setting my AC loadline down to 0.35 is 1.355 V so I am betting on that being low enough
Your CPU is not cooked. Just do a negative offset on your BCLK Adaptive voltage to about 01.0000 and you'll be stable with temps around the high 80's.

High voltage is due to peak turbo boost jumps - disable turbo boost max 3.0 and thermal velocity boost, not high tdp.
There is something so many of these builders, and recommendations do not consider.
Some of us CANNOT bring our chips back to retailer, as that would leave us without a running system.
Waiting 6-8 lifetimes for an RMA to be rejected doesn't solve my computer issues when I have a WFH shift tonight.
If the suggestion is RMA, then stow it and just suggest we buy AMD.
Hey. I've had the same issue as you do. After reaching Intel's support, they denied me the "cross-shipping" option which is basically "Send me the new CPU and i'll send you the faulty one after". After explaning why it was important for me to have it, i asked the same question 3 times and eventually they escalated the ticket to some higher resp. which granted me the cross-shipping. You should try and be as annoying as you can, eventually they will accept.

The bios update is the best thing I've done for my computer recently. Temperatures dropped by over 20 degrees for an i5 14600kf. Earlier, when Blender Cycles on the CPU, temperatures went to 100 in 3 seconds, now it was max 81. After a longer time, when the processor goes into long time power limit mode, temperatures drop even more.
14900k user. Asus ROG Strix z790. The latest bios raised my voltages past 1.5v and increased temperatures across the board so I went back to my old bios v1102 and everything is a lot better. Pl1=125 PL2=253 ICC Max=307. MCE disabled. All Cores 57x. Voltage never passes 1.3v and temps never above 75c. Smooth sailing. I will wait till the mid August microcode update and see if it's any better at that time.
Exactly same with 13900k and z790 strix e wifi II Asus motherboard. As everyone is saying to do that I updated bios to 1402 and had mine first crash since 8 months with unreal engine. Switched back to 1201 and 5 days of playing. Not a single crash
I have heard people mentioning that updating to the bios with the microcode 0x125 was worse, so maybe you experienced the same.

While my temps and voltages are fine with the new microcode, my 13600k won't boost to 5.1Ghz during cinebench anymore. It goes as far as 4.8Ghz.
Same here w r.t to boost frequency but I see as far as 1.5v for a short burst of time and then settles somewhere in 1.4v range . My mobo Asus Rog strix b760 I gaming .
Dont forgot to mention that the Usb drive needs to be reformatted to FAT32 by right clicking on the drive. That ensures the drive is cleared completely in preparation for the CAP file.

Why can’t i run neither of XMP profiles without having crashes? I have 4 ram slots 64gb (16gb each) 6800mhz. When i run the lowest xmp 6000mhz it crashes and it does for even higher. I got i9-14900k rtx4090 Z790 maximus formula. Any fix for this beside lowering mhz of ram to 5600mhz or any lower numbers?

I heard something a while ago that there's stability issues with people who run 4 dimm configurations of DDR5 RAM.
I would try running your system with 1-2 sticks and see if you still crash.
While that might not be what you wanna hear, and might not fix your issue; that was a problem for a lot of people which is why I stuck to 2 sticks.

@@chrissoto4878 i have 3 xmp profiles for 6000mhz 6400mhz and 6800mhz it works for me on 6000mhz profile but manually put it to 5200mhz on 4 sticks. I have tried two a while ago and still couldn’t run XMP profiles as they are but going to try tomorrow and let you know the case. Thanks for the reply

Check the manual to make sure your memory is sitting in the right slots. This fixed the problem for me.

Just as a notifier for my budget friends out there. You got an i5-13500, i5-13400, i3-13100. Don't worry your die size is at 215 square mm, you have an alder lake die and therefore are less affected by the so called "Raptor Lake issues".

You forgot the most important setting to keep the voltages flat. Go to IA VR voltage limit and set it to 1350mv . Done!

I didn't know about that setting but I changed it for my i7-14700K and I went from 31853 (multicore) and 2196 (single core) points on Cinebench R23 with vcore of 1.46v to 30773 (multicore) and 2074 (single core) points with vcore of 1.323 which I don't mind... Temps also decreased a lot.
How do you configure the IA VR Voltage Limit when it’s set to Auto and greyed out without allowing to change it?
After update of the BIOS, the Vcore went down, from 1,45V to 1,30 V. the temp of the p-cores went down from 85+ C to 73 degrees C whith my I5 13600KF. Maybe it was nothing to worry about bit it did lower temps, and that is always good. the results with Cinebench went down a little as well, since the CPU got down from 110% to 100% at testing. In realtime conditions these lower results aren;t noticeble. Thank you for the info .
I applied an offset voltage of -0.100v on my 14900k with bios updated and is still running fine

Try an offset to voltages(over and above intel defaults) to under-volt your CPU, I've undervolted mine (0.1v) and it has helped the temperatures dramatically and mine still happily turbos to 5.3Ghz all core for the first 56 Sec.
I got a 13980HX laptop... what can we laptop owners do? I'm still under warranty from Asus and I haven't had any issues but I've been undervolting the CPU and since I first became aware of this have been limiting its power usage to around 55-75w and also increased the fan speeds to keep it running cool. Going to reapply new thermal paste soon as well.
I don't know if it's even been an issue for laptops. They're already ran with a lot less voltage.

It's probably fine to run those voltages at idle anyway, if you're scared about them disable 2-core boost, that's mostly what makes high requests I think.

About running cinebench on my system, I'm running 14900ks with -110mV offset (dunno LLC, as it's auto, left most voltages at auto/default) limited to 253/253 it's running with 1.2V, at light loads averages 1.3V.
No, anything over 1.40v will do damage to the ring, you want to undervolt/underclock the CPU to the point it never requests more than 1.40v

14700k, Asus Z790 ProArt, enhanced profile but manually undervolted as soon as I built the PC. Perfectly stable for near a year now and my voltage never went over 1.36.

@@stevenstramturean Dead easy brother...soon as i built mine, i put a minus 0.0750 offset in and its at 1.275v all the time now max.. was at about 1.360v before which is prob okay but i didnt like it especially if i can lower it alot and still be rock stable... Just hop into the bios find your vcore setting sometimes called diff things depending on the board and you will see offset, press that hit minus then dial in a -0.500 or something, test at that with a game as stesstests dont always bring faults, my experience of building and tweaking intel for over a decade, multiple systems, gaming is where you will see crashes more often than say cinibench or OCCT sometimes, so see if that works, if it does lower the offset some more until you get crashes, it will take time, ya know, i did mine in 5 mins, but if your new it may take an hour or so... But i know what im clicking and looking for instantly... and then just go abit everytime in the bios, soon as you get the crashes, bring it back up by -0.150 maybe then you should be on the good side of the unstable and at the lowest voltage you can have... Its super easy bro... and if you do something bad u always have reset cmos to go back to all the defaults you got it with... I think mine will go lower but i did a quick and dirty offset and its working like a charm... cinibench r23 doesnt go higher than 63c and gaming its around 53c ish... so super cool.

Just updated my Z790 Carbon wifi and again nno issues but I always fix or use adaptive vcore with a max limit of 1.325v...I have never let the motherboard handle voltages on auto as it is just abbsurd and can go over 1.45v with ease and it just is not needed. 1.3v should be enough to allow any 13th and 14th gen to boost properly and 1.350v if you really want to push for max scores. Getting 41K in cinebench r23 multi test with temps all under control though using a 360mm aio.

I have a 14900K, an ASUS Maximum Z970 Dark Hero, and the latest 1402 BIOS with the 0x125 microcode update. I kept the AI Overclock Tuner set to AUTO and the DRAM frequency to DDR-6400 MHz. I see 6400 MHz in the memory section of the Performance tab in Windows Task Manager, so it appears stable with the AI Overclock Tuner at AUTO.
I own i9-14900k, latest bios 2402 on ROG STRIX Z790-H GAMING WIFI VID MAX reach at max 1.492V 96°C and average is around 1.18V, before I always undervolted -0.07 V but bios 2402 with intel default does not allow it anymore, I do not find the offset option. Using Arctic Liquid Freezer III 420 with push pull and no throtling at all. Congratulations for your channel, I learned a lot from you !!
Intel default bios enables undervolt protection setting. search for it in bios and disable. Restart. Go back to bios and now you can undervolt again if thats what you want to do.

I actually did this my self with my 14600kf and i also had high core voltages going to 1.440v and the ghz dropping from 5.3 to 5.1 because it was hitting the 181w limit. So i did an undervolt, fixed the voltages to 1.145 and everything is stable and it runs on its boost clocks easily. 5.3 p cores and 4 ghz e cores stable. And the temperatures went from 96° to 60-70° on 100% load.
HI, I have 14600k and I have been using microcode 0X123 for about 7 months now. I updated my bios to 0X12B but I noticed worse performance on R23 multi core and my games on average were running about 20 watts higher. also my V core was higher at around 1.3-1.35 V. I ended up downgrading back to 0X123 and my v core is around 1.2-1.25 and my core vids is also around 1.2 v. Would you consider this safe or should i update my bios back to 0X12B? So far I have not experienced any bsod and I don't think I have any CPU degradation as my R23 scores are the same since day one and I have not seen any game crashes. Also is there any way to check for CPU degradation? I am using a 360 AIO and max temps that I have seen on R23 is around 86C. Sorry for all the questions. I just wanna make sure this CPU lasts as I cant really afford to replace it if it breaks. Let me know if you need any other info. Thanks again!
If you have a 13400f or 13600k just enjoy. The server devs released the failure rates and said the 13600k was less then 2% so enjoy.
Mine is perfect and people need to remember motherboard manus are and have been replying bios that don't allow it to go over 1.4volts my asus motherboard already did it and ive never ever ever had and issue yet. I got lucky I didn't run it before that. It's stable has never crashed and is running fantasticly.

Do you have any sources for that 2%? It sounds about right (13600K is not even mentioned in warframe crash report) but I would be interest to know more. I'm also an owner of stable 13600K (so far), so that's why I'm interested.
13400f is Alder Lake. Unaffected and runs slower than a stock 12600k anyways so no issues at all with this CPU.
Its neck and neck with the 12600k but yes. Luckily my new 13600k is very nice also. Hasnt gone over 1.4volts I swear asus has there bios dialed in. I havent had to touch a single thing. Also i had no idea the 13600k was so good lol. @multiicore_

I’d tweak the 13600k if I was you tbh. Disable pointless 1-2 core boost. I5s generally run around 1.3 Volts so you don’t really need to undervolt. But definitely do disable the 1-2 core boost.
Raptor Lake was a rushed out architecture.
You need to monitor the Vcore voltage not the Core VID, as Core ViDs is the voltage requested by the CPU, while the Vcore is the actual voltage sent to CPU.
It is super important for people to suspend BitLocker and save the recovery key before attempting this. Otherwise, if you run disk encryption (which you should!!) you will lose your data.
On my 14600K i have set the IA VR Limit to 1400 mV and the highest I've seen is 1.372 V. Before setting the limit the max I saw was 1.403 V. Running cinebench 24 it goes anywhere from 1.250 to 1.270 V while keeping all p-core 5ghz (and 2-3 of them 5.1ghz). Max temp 92C with freezer 36 cooler.
I don't think this is well known enough - to find the part in the BIOS that can limit the CPUs internal voltage regulator, rather than the more obvious VID settings etc. I set mine to 1400 and my Cinebench score went up by 300 points. 13700k on a Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite X. Max 80 degrees with a EK 240mm AIO.

As said: The 0x125 bios will give more Vcore and temp! Do not download unless you are having stability issues. This bios is done from broken CPU's! I had the same issue and tackled it at once!

Also the Asus extreme profile had to much voltage.
I just limited the SVID in total now and not exceeding 1.275volts in any scenario.
CPU stays cool and performance is not really inpacted. Also way beter powerwise, consuming a lot less watts.
The priority is performance and reliability. This channel covered both well.
I updated the bios, but also manually set the Intel specfied parameters, like TDP, iccMax, and other things, and also set a undervolt, and my i7 14700KF is running at 60 degrees in games, and 80 degrees in cinebench r23. I don't know what they do in this "intel Default Settings", but it is way too hot for my taste.

This settings are the official recommended settings for a i7 14700. But I aplied a undervolt of -0.100V on Vcore offset. Because this are the Intel Official Settings for the CPU, no performance change was notible, you will get the CPU stock perfomance. But before you do all that, you must certify that your water cooler is propelly optimized to performe well. Good Luck!

Switching to AMD means that you will find out again... Their chips will also degrade because of the continuously 95 degrees... You have to tune your Intel chips manually mate and they will live for ever 😉
Although there's truth in what you're saying, this current issue is unique in that the CPU was drawing in high voltages during minimal tasks that was stemming directly from the microcode. So this issue was sort of baked in and happening despite any tuning as far as I understand.

Mine is a 13700k im not updating my microcode cuz my comp is working beautifully
same I have the Asus Strix B760-F motherboard with the same bios it shipped with and my i7 13700k is running just fine with around 1.28v (sometimes hitting 1.33v), temps just under 90c (on full load) and CPU package at 253w under full load (tends to sit at 35w when not doing much).

My 13th Gen CPUs have been running fine and on spec since I got them more than a year ago.

@@AyataHiragi Voltage has never gone over 1.388 on the P cores, and 1.344 on the E cores,(Only while gaming )so that's a good sign I think. It's normally below a volt while browsing, sometimes spiking to around 1.2 briefly for a split second. Temps don't go over 84c in stress tests using stock LIM, and hardly ever spiking above 62c(64c sometimes)while running Forbidden West for hours on max settings 1080p getting an average of 120FPS. Idle temps stay below just below 30c using Deepcool AIO. Motherboard is a Z790 MSI P WIFI.

Power limit aint gonna fix this because the problem is with single core boost and a 14900k boosting on 2 cores to 6ghz does not exceed a 125W power limit. Set ratio limit per core to whatever your cpu goes on all core boost example with i9 14900k 2 cores go to 6ghz and 5,6ghz with all cores so u need to set all the cores with a limit 5,6ghz. Another thing you can do is set a core voltage limit but that depends what cpu you got for example with 14900k i would set 1,4V max

I own a 12700k, I'm not directly impacted by the entire fiasco, but tbh, I lost my entire trust in Intel... From the fact that they are still selling the impacted units, all the way in how they have handled the situation

Just updated to latest bios, 13700k pushing above 1.5v under idle. All default intel settings. Temps are terrible under cinebench load. Dont know what to do at this point
Go back to previous bios update . Works better and lower temps. I did
@etissite i ended up fixing it. After changing to intel default settings profile, changing sa cep and ia cep to auto fixed the low cinebench score and changing svid behavior to auto fixed the 1.5v idle
Lol, don't be an Intel guinea pig. They don't have enough time to test if a BIOS update fixes or further degrades the CPU's in question, much less CPU's that don't have an issue. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you have a 13th or 14th gen that doesn't have issues, don't update your BIOS. Wait for others to test it out for you, first.

Did you know you don't need the microcode update? Did you know you can just adjust the settings in the bios to avoid this problem? There are people that did that on day one and their chips are fine.
The microcode is just for people that don't know how, or are too afraid to go into their bios and change a few settings.
I'm glad people are scared about this though. I was just able to pick up a brand new Amazon returned 13700k for $230, and now it has a 5-year warranty.
Worst case scenario I'll have my chip I paid half price for replaced with a brand new one. 😂
Btw, Intel has been in business for decades, their microcode will work. It's not rocket science. All it's doing is automating what you could do yourself in the bios manually.

I undervolted my CPU manually since day 2 of completing my build and haven't updated with May or June microcode since I know I don't need the TVB fixes for my 14700k. I would say with authority that the anxiety even if I've undervolted and my max Vcore so far of 1.344v is not worth it. This is most especially due to intel being shady and not providing clear stance and not even stating which part of the CPU has the degredation problem. Is it the oxidation? Is it just the cores? Is it the IMC getting damaged (which would cause memory instability or program crashes and frequent BSODs )? Is it the cache? There are many people on reddit that turned off cores/downclocked and BSODs go away and there are others that have tried those and what everyone guesses a damaged IMC would be a definitely dead CPU.
After all, I bought the damn CPU because I trusted intel that it would be more stable on plenty of programs than AMD aside from my need with highly threaded workloads of editing. Turns out I'm at risk of accelerated degradation without knowing if my undervolt is enough to get the CPU to last me at least 5 years of use without any headaches.

I have a 13600k on a msi z690 pro p ddr4 mobo. There's a setting called cpu lite load. Have put it on mode 3 after trial and error. Now the cpu runs on 1.2v max all core load and the performance is within 1 percent of mobo default settings. Default max temp in cine bench was 95c and with mode 3 it's high 70s in cinebemch and low 70s in gaming. Using a deepcool assassin 3 for cooling. It's worth a try for those with msi mobos

I have tuned my 14900k since 2023 and runs fine. Ia cep and cep off, llc 4, ac line .28 and DC line 0.98. Short and long duration 253w. Vcore sits @1.38v under load temps around 80. Have tested multiple dx12 games and vx2 stress test. Hope stays like that.

Not everyone wants AMD. They simply cannot complete with intel for clock speed and multi core power for the same money. Without the extra L3 cache, they would be useless. Even the new AMD 9700x cannot compete with even the i7 14700. If it wasnt for the stability issues, intel would be dominating.

When testing for performance my 14900K, fixed at 1.325v temps high 80's early 90's when running Cinebench R23 with a 41K cinebench r23 multi score. For daily use, fixed vcore 1.3v and again no issues and temps even better. Also I would never lead vcore on auto. Set a fixed or adaptive with a max 1.350v limit as that will provide all the performance and more without any temprature issues whatsoever.
Urgent! Sell off your Intel PC now and switch to AMD before your computers value plummets!

Sadly, nobody is going to buy it now. Even new 13 th / 14 th are selling worse than 12 th gen now.
When I did a test in Cinebench today I got over 1.4 volts in core VIDs, core temp and cpu package temp of 100 C maximum and a result of about 38000. I noticed PL1 and PL2 were set on default. All I did was set IA VR Voltage Limit to 1400, set PL1 to 125W and PL2 to 253W as shown on Intel website for 14700k and disabled enhanced-multicore performance. Now the result is about 29500 but core VIDs voltage does not go above 1.390, and core temp and cpu package temp go up to 90 C.
Highly likely ? My PC store says it’s well less than 10% that’s not highly likely but unlikely . You tech people are scaring people with your click bait .
10% is not unlikely in risk management term😂 it is pretty close to occasional.
What matters is failures over time. It may be 10% now, but it could easily become 70-80% in a span of 5 years.

They forgot to add one 0. Its not 10% but 100%. Every, again every 13th and 14th gen intel CPU is affected. Even 65W ones. If cpu is undervolted, procesy of degradation is just slower.
13900k I've used for a few years on custom water. Voltages on latest bios is around 1.3v idle and 1.25 under load. The only thing I have tweaked with the latest bios is increasing my power limits since even under load my temps are under 75C.

I have a slightly earlier bios version. I currently have voltage offset by -30mV (from day 1). Voltage peaks at 1.18v in cinebench r23 and manages a score of ~35500

Always make sure you research user feedback and comments on a new BIOS before updating to the latest one. See if people with your same motherboard or similar family board are having any major issues with the latest BIOS before you update it. I recently made the mistake of not reading comments on one of the latest BIOS updates for my motherboard and had to roll back to the previous BIOS to fix all of the instability and crashes I was suddenly getting.
I'm on Z690 DDR4 Gigabyte with a 13700K and similar issues with still high voltages being requested by the CPU with the newest BIOS. With Intel default profile I also went in to manually set PL1/PL2 to 253W, IccMax to 307A, IA VR to 1385 (1.385V) and undervolted by -75mV adaptive offset. Cinebench R23 multicore scores now at 28,200ish. With only applying the Intel defaults profile, peak CPU temps hit ~86c, with the rest of my limits applied, ~76c
I have a similar setup as you, 13700k + Gigabyte z690 gaming X DDR4. I'm still on a F21 BIOS Version though. What's your turbo power limit set to? Mine is set to Intel POR which limits the PL1/PL2 to 253W, but after testing i've noticed a huge performance loss in C R23. My multicore result went from 30167 (all bios default settings + XMP) to 17545.
My i7 13700K was sometimes reaching 1.5v even with the latest bios, but after locking all my cores at 53x (5.3Ghz), it only goes up to 1.4v rarely now. I heard (and noticed in HWinfo) that it was 2 of my cores that sometimes would boost to 5.4Ghz and then also wanting to pull upwards of 1.5v.
I'm still going to try to see if I can reduce the core voltage a little further though.
So to keep you CPU from cooking you should really lock all your cores to the same default boost of the CPU you are running to avoid the "single" core boost that Intel has implemented.
disable single-two core boost and aim for 1.3 Volts all core.
@@epeksergastis As I have already locked all cores to 5.3Ghz, I don't experience the single-two core boost anymore, or at least not to the degree as before, if I'm understanding correctly, and my voltage is at 1.35 now, so that's the only thing I want to try to get a little lower, but I haven't experienced any type of problems since I bought and built my PC back at the start of November '23.
Also in all of this debacle, I've noticed that generally, it's been people with ASUS boards who have been having problems, and it's not to shift blame unto the board manufacturers, but I still think that it needs to be discussed why this is the case. I had to go with an Asrock board, as there was no ASUS boards in my price range that would fit my requirements, and as I've said, I haven't had any problem since I built my system, oh except for a bad RAM stick that died after a few months.

I just went full on safe mode until the bios update. Underclocked my 13600K to 4,5 GHz / 3,5 GHz and disabled xmp. And the performance drop is not even that huge, I have 21k in cinebench r23 multicore (instead of 23k stock) and 1750 single core (I don't remeber the original number but it was something colse to 2000). Temps and power consumption dropped even more, 60C max on AK620 and 100W under full load. And maximum Vcore is now 1,08V instead of stock 1,3V. This is obviously an overkill, but I probably won't go back to stock settings after the update, something like 4,8 GHz (P) / 3,7 GHz (E) seems perfectly fine for me, while not pushing the chip to its limits.
PS. My cpu is also slightly undervolted since the begging with vf curve points (- 90mV at max frequency) and with lite load set to mode 6.
Only 100W with 13600k. I got 13500, and it draws around 150W, and when I undervolt it, it becomes unstable.
CPU:13900k: Vid Max 1.528. Package max power: 253W. I've noticed with the new BIOS the power is maintained, where previously is still jumped to like 285W. The voltage is still very high, although under load the voltage goes down to 1.25.

I've been using a 13700F for over an year now without a BIOS update - not a single issue so far, temps under load can reach 100C for short periods but only 1.2-1.3V on average.
May update BIOS once Intel release the new microcode but only after I see tests.
Same with a 13600K bought in February.
My 13700k was 1.25 volts. I set it to 1.35 with an offset -0.03. Great temp all core 5.4
I would suggest setting the voltage manually to around 1.2 or maybe 1.25 but definitely NOT 1.46v. We did this to my sons and it has behaved well.

Different voltages with different feel of gameplay. Your better off not using XMP
I keep hearing bad things about ucode 129, so I stuck with ucode 125. I then undervolted by -.100v. It keeps my max VID and Vcore under 1.4v. It actually raised my R23 score from 35.5K to about 38.5K as well. Fingers crossed this keeps my 14900KF safe.
Updated my MSI motherboard to the latest and had to go back to the previous bios. My system started running hotter so hopefully the next bios update will be better off
I still get 100C+ even after applying this update (0x129), is anyone else having this issue? Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? had zero issues the entire time with my 13600k i got used running 5.3ghz latest bios stock volts v1.22 guess im really lucky, that said it wasnt really pushed hard yet.
I updated to the latest bios on MSI Z790 GAMING PRO WIFI for my i7-14700KF hoping it will resolve the crashing and bluescreens and unexpected shut downs. I just gave up and returned back to my MSI B550 Gaming Plus paired with AMD R9 5900x no issues at all. I just wasted a lot of money sadly on Z790 GAMING PRO WIFI and Intel CPU

@@keno921 Hello, yes there are lot of complaints about Intel 14th Gen and 13th Gen and even 12th Gen processors. I suggest that you try to build AM4/5 desktop pc. I have a small mini pc from minisforum AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with external Dock PCIE 3.0/External PSU its running well and no issues at all. I heard there are too concerns over Intel new gen processors Ultra etc and instability issues. Stick with AMD processors AM4/AM5 builds. I am planning to buy AMD Ryzen 7 9700x (AMD new processors) soon.

They work or they don't, you can't "cook" it to the point where it malfunctions, as at that point it would simply cease to work altogether. CPUs work flawlessly, or not at all.
I have never seen my i7 13700k go above 1,360V (with CEP disabled) and i still have my first BIOS from 2022 when i bought my ASUS Prime Z790. I also have no issues with my CPU.
Everyone recommends that you set IA & SA CEP to ENABLED in BIOS, but when i do that, my VID voltages jump to 1,45V. When i leave it on DISABLED, my voltages never go above 1,360V.
First of all you need to find the lowest value of AC Line Load at which you won’t experience any throttling or instability. Right down to 0.01 mOhms if possible. Then you need to adjust the DC value to make the Core VIDs equal to real voltage (Vcore). Everything else can be ignored. Not only it will solve this issue but it will reduce the temperatures too.
Hope you have a support bracket for that Noctua cooler....
We have 250 Dell's with these chips in.. Zero issues. Everything was correctly setup to begin with as they got it right out of the box. I have similar at home and guess what, i setup and updated the bios correctly.
One set of chips were bad... So what, not like amd didn't do that a few years ago or all the macbook keyboards broke for four years.
My 14700k reaches 1.477 V. Should I be concerned? I updated the BIOS to the latest version today.

Last bios up my voltage to 1.65V for 6ghz.... 1.55 for 5.8Ghz, it's a now way... temp are already rather crazy.

Thank you for posting this. Just returned a 13th Gen i9 and got a replacement under warranty. Now I need fix the BIOS after an update failed with the faulty CPU - I could not access the BIOS after the update. I will try Q Flash plus in the Gigabyte Aero G Z790 before fitting the new Intel i9-14900K. The issue might have been the file name not being renamed to 'GIGABYTE.bin' on the USB - although every instruction suggested the rename only if updating without the CPU.
@theTechNotice it's important to specify that a lot of BIOS Update that contains the new microcode are marked as Beta-BIOS which means it could remove the motherboard warranty

im not sure about the i7 13700HX , but there have been cases of the i9 14900hx failing and is effected by the same issue , and I highly doubt Intel will adress that laptops cpus are also effected since they took 2 whole years to address the effect of the 13th and 14th gen
Yes, the problem lies in the voltages not total amount of power. Use a Vcore monitoring software that can log the max Vcore that it hits. Make sure it never goes past 1.4v. The max I would go for is usually 1.3v but my 14700k is power hungry and would impact performance once I was try to max out at lower than 1.35 v. If you are hitting past 1.4v, undervolt that thing.
My 13900k died. Was using performance mode while gaming and it took a toll

so i have an i9 13900k more than a year now with no real issues, so my question is this issue affecting all intel chips on 13th and 14th gen or some of them?
Same mine is fine my temps are super low, lower than 50c most of the time, has it since early June of last year, no crashes or anything.
Just wish there was a way of checking like the sku and going oh mines not in that list therefore I’m ok etc…

only some cpus are effected , but if your cpu is not effected them its recommended to update it to the new bios and use the recommended settings since it will prevent the cpu from frying , if its already crashing then its better to replace the cpu .
So my 13100f is fine then? If I ever want to get a more powerful cpu for gaming am I stuck with an 12600/12700? I went ahead and updated my bios.
If I understand correctly 13th gen models below 65W TDP are still based on alder lake architecture and are not affected, so you shoud be safe.
If the update actually prevents any further damage, you could go for 13th / 14th but I would wait at least untill 2025 and see if it changed anything. Untill then, yeah, you should probably limit yourself for 12th gen if you want to upgrade.
