I bought a NeoGeo MVS Arcade in 2023!

- I was inspired earlier this year to look at the long dark rabbit hole of arcade machines. And ended up coming out the other side with a Neo Geo MVS machine.
So lets see what I got and why!

Nice setup if it makes you happy =) I own a 4-slot MVS candy cab with original cartridges, but prefer to just plug a MiSTercade into its JAMMA-harness 👍🏻
Neo Turf Masters is an excellent game. 1st game I played on a neo geo
Its a lovely game, I play it way more then the others on the system.
and I've not even that much of a fan of Golf!
As a brit myself am in the same boat meaning the only time I saw an arcade was on my summer holidays from the 80's in places like Hasting, with that being said by the time of the mid to late 90's they were all fruit machines. Love the Neo Geo fighting games though, there great and I tend to give them more play than Capcom.
It really did feel like most of the arcades were at sea side towns, or you might find a few in bowling alleys.
and if you didn't have either of those near by you didn't get to really play them.
@@GouldFishOnGames very true, for a couple of weeks a year in the 80's I got to play paperboy, after that it was back to the c64

What are the differences in the cbox versions? I see there's a V4 for sale now. Wouldn't mind something more compact for my Sega STV system.
But definetely get Windjammers, you can buy repros fairly cheaply, or just go for the flash cart and you can add anything then, even the recent games like Kraut Buster.
From what I've seen, the V4 is mostly the same as the 3.
but they how have the main box as more a dongle.
so you have a cable you connect to the Jamma interface then the cable connects to the cbox.
I was happy with the all in one so stuck with the V3.
The earlier ones don't have USB from what I've seen.
Great Job on the set . The least expensive way is not always the bad way 👍
but i'm afraid that your Neo Geo journey doesn't stop here 😊

Yeah, trying to get the original games isn't cheap, so I'll stick with the multi-carts for now.

i really like the mvs system,i was going to get one and make a arcade cab,but quickly ran out of room,yeah,the other mvs has probably got fried ram,i think the ideal range would be around 5.25 max
Did you have any issues running all of the games on the 161 in multicart? Some of the games give me an error claiming “this rom cartridge is for use with original snk boards only copying of snk boards is prohibited”. I have the same mv1b as you except I have an official 3.0 mvs bios from snk.
You've definetly given me some food for thought now. I have been lusting over NeoGeo for years. I never thought of Aliexpress and never ordered from there as always been wary about it. Wondering if I could find a SD Card reader for it instead of the Multicart route.
And the cycle continues 😉
I have to admit I've bought quite a bit off AliExpress, and for the most part its been fine, its not always the quickest and I've had a few low value items have issues.
but over all its been a decent experiance.
As for SD card solutions, there is one. But its very expensive, if you can find one.
And it can be quite slow to switch between games
@@GouldFishOnGames Thanks for the advice there. Did you get slapped with any Import/Duty fee's?
@@Born2Rune Aliexpress handles the VAT, but its ontop of what ever price you see on the page. So it can look cheap but they will add tax when you go to pay.
hmm.. are you sure your previous mvs died because of high voltage?? you can also fry them if you have the "stereo" switch turned "on" (at the supergun or cbox) while using a mono only mvs, it causes the audio AMP to overheat, it does not only fries the audio amp but also the RAM chips around it, you cannnot connect a mono MVS board to a stereo MVS connector, some boards had a on/off stereo switch for that purpose (MV1 and MV1-F).
I hadn't thought of that, and no one else has brought it up.
so I just went to double check, and the supergun is set to mono and I haven't changed it.
Which makes me think that its good.

Couldn't you just emulate via MAME or something?
I could and I have, but you can also say the same thing for all the other machines in the collection.
I like hardware, carts and the whole process.
@@GouldFishOnGames fair call, it made for an interesting video either way. I personally used to love physical stuff but it just got to the point where it takes up too much space. I actually like stuff like savestates and upscaling etc.
@@TheGunmanChannel Don't get me wrong, I use emulation all the time it has a number of useful improvements like you noted. and really the important bit is playing and enjoying the games.
Its just there are times when for me, the physical side of it adds to the experience.
Does it make a big difference in graphics coming from mame retro emulation vs this physical copy?

I was thinking about it, but during the process I found some of the shops broke the saved links I had.
so I think they tend to mess around with the items in their shops.
Give the broken one to CRG to look at, well it was his fault you got it in the first place 😂
He's already looked at the video and had some input on what might be broken.
its either the really cheap parts, or the almost impossible to get parts. which is typical 🤣

Thats a god awful tv for neo geo. It should be 4x3, not widescreen! Great video though👍
Its actually a very good TV, it has a great number of inputs including RGB and supports PAL and NTSC.
It also supports sending RF out one of the scart sockets so it can be used to capture RF only machines.
Even though its a wide screen it was put in regular mode, you can see the picture doesn't go all the way to the sides.
The ratio is correct, the square boxes of the hatch test are square.
Would it be cool to have a 4:3 TV, yeah. but this was the best I found, it had all the features I needed and it can and typically is switched to 4:3 for games.
@GouldFishOnGames hey man, I was reading my old post and it was way snarkier than I meant it to be. Every CRT is a great CRT! And you're obviously having a great time with it. Also I'm super jealous of your rgb input. I wish we we had that in the states. Cheers! Take care.

I didn't even notice the lack of red blood, I think it defaulted to Europe in unibios and didn't think to change it.
I'll have to remember about it next time.
I think its clear that I'm quite new to the NeoGeo.
