Mr. Wobbly Leg is an interesting curio as it was part of a competition to win a job at Bullfrog. AP2 had a competition to design a new Space Invaders game and the creator was one of two winners who went on to get a job at the developer, working on the Syndicate series.

8:52 What is Octav1us doing on the cover of an early '90s Amiga magazine???

Thank you. I used to love getting new magazines for their cover discs. I’d spend half an hour expanding them to multiple disks.

Yeah, having to keep a few blank disk or more likely previous months expanded demos. To hand to inflate them took time.
but it was always great when it was a larger demo like that.

You've captured a specific time in my life with all these games! This would've been right after I received my A500+ at Christmas... ah memories.

I remember when I covered the first magazine and cover disk we got (for our A500+) and it was such a fun moment!
its the little things that take you back.

Crikey that was a tough month! I'd have been disappointed if I'd brought Amiga Power and received that shite.

Wolf Child DOES look a lot better than Altered Beast. And Missile Command does look like great fun!
Oooh! Guy Spy! That looks cool! Who doesn't love a bit of espionage action?
    TANX for the memories!
Mr Wobbly Leg has some clever ideas! Neat.
Still some fun games there sir.
Pacific Island is the pick for me.

Interesting set this month. Some of it was rough but there were a fair number of items that were new to me, along with some I knew well. I really feel a Mandelbrot generator with animation features, PicBase & Tanx in 1, along with something as interesting as Guy Spy, plus a free text editor would win it for me now but genuinely, forgetting to include something would have pissed me off in the day. Still I have to give 1st to place to CU Amiga.
2nd goes to Amiga Action for a pretty good range of media, so whilst Raid impresses for a SEUCK game it’s not enough to carry the rest.
I’ve included my notes as usual if you’re bothered?
    Amiga Action:
The Wolf Child demo seems pretty polished, as I believe the game was, from what you’ve shown? It would have kept my attention.
Pacific Islands is definitely interesting & the demo looks fairly substantial? As for shooting your own tanks, Command-and-control my friend! It’s up to you to know what assets you have & where, that way a US A10 pilot can shoot our AFV’s in a “friendly fire” incid… cough, sorry, the game’s set in WW II isn’t it?
You’ll always win points from me with Missile Command clones!
Amoeba Invaders is a pretty faithful clone of Space invaders. Hard to go wrong really. Just needs some acetone tape on the CRT to give the appearance of colour graphics, real colour graphics is cheating! 😄
Bally II looks fine but I’ve never been a big fan of Qix personally.
Double Dragon 3 wasn’t great for home ports but I never played the arcade game but I doubt this did it Justice?
    CU Amiga:
Not really in to John Madden football as I’ve never been a fan of rugby in shoulder pads. Did you know take a brake every time the ball touches the ground?
MandAnim! Ha! Remember when Mandelbrots were a big deal? We all had Mandelbrot generators that seemed amazing for the time but I doubt young people today would understand why? Still MandAnim is an interesting oddity of the era.
The picture of the month is nice & all but there’s no way that would have been interesting to me in the day.
PicBase is actually something useful for the time. Keep in mind this is from an era when even having images on your personal computer was a relatively new thing.
Guy Spy actually looks pretty spectacular? I love the cartoon look but it looks from what you’ve shown like you have limited control & have to wait for the character animation to do what you wanted it to do?
Textra is fine but we were never short of text editors. I guess it would still have done the job?
Tanx is great fun & uses up far more of your time than it has any right to, it always wins points with me.
Forgetting to include Disk Master would have annoyed me more than it really should in the day, that’s a let down.
    Amiga Power:
Mr Wobbly Legs Vs. the Invaders from Space? Is that a game or the title of my autobiography? It’s different but I’m not convinced it really improves on the original Space Invaders?
Raid really does get the most out of SEUCK doesn’t it? It looks like it would have impressed me in the day, given all our familiarity with SEUCK. Shame about the difficulty level.
Oof! Squamble looks rough. I doubt I’d have put much time in to it?

Always happy to hear you notes on the how you thought the magazines stacked up!
I can see where you are coming from with the rankings, some months its hard to decide which I think is the best.
Wolfchild is one of those games that I've seen a few times (got a few copies as well) but never got around to really playing.
and the demo has made me think I might need to check it out sooner rather then later.
From what I hear about double dragon 3, the Amiga port might actually be better then the arcade!
Not that much of a fan of sports game and even less of American footdball. so yeah wasn't really that interested in it my self.
I think picbase would have been better on a hard drive, I think it might have been a bit of a slog trying to use it across multiple disks.
Guy Spy looked lovely and was well animated, it was just quite slow to respond, it was all very stop / start.
I've been tempted to check out the other versions of the game (or a hard drive installed Amiga copy, to see if that helps).
Part of me was happy that diskmaster wasn't there as I'd covered a later version last month 😁
but it being mentioned then not included is a bit crap.
I'm not sure if Mr Wobbly Legs improves on the classic, but its an interesting take. and turns out a good enough one to get the developer a job!
and yeah I think Raid might be the best of what you can expect from SUECK.

DD3 on the Amiga is smoother than the arcade and considering the general state of the beat'em up genre on the machine, not that bad. I think the Sales Curve guys didn't have very good source material to work with and tried to polish it somehow. Heck, even the Commodore 64 version runs better than the arcade!

    • @GouldFishOnGames
      @GouldFishOnGames  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh Wow!
I've never really played the arcade DD games, so I had to guess a little at the quality.
and it seems I was completely off 😁

Used to play TANX a lot with the family was funny at times if the wind picks up and the missile came back and hit your own tank.

I really wish somebody would do a ROM hack of Wolfchild so you're the wolf all the time. I'm not sure how hard that'd be to do, but I feel like that'd make the game so much better. It's real close to being a real good game, except for that terrible punch attack.

    • @GouldFishOnGames
      @GouldFishOnGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

There might be a cheat or a trainer for the Amiga version, I never checked the full game.

    • @GouldFishOnGames

Based on what another commenter has mentioned, it seems that AP ran a competition to design a new space invaders.
and the winner went on to get a job at Bullfrog!
