As a Greek I have to add a couple of things to what you said about the Mediterranean diet. In Greece we have only two salad dressings: 1)olive oil + lemon juice and 2)olive oil + vinegar and if we want to make your dressing extra fancy then we use balsamic vinegar or once in a while mustard. It is a very rare occasion to see a Greek dress his/her salad with something else. Also, at least once and often twice a week we eat legumes e.g fakes (lentil soup), rebithia (garbanzo bean soup), fasolada (white bean soup), arakas (peas) etc. They are delicious protein packed recipes, that help reduce your weekly meat consumption. In fact, when I want to have some protein for lunch but want to avoid meat, I opt for one of the recipes I just mentioned. Lastly, Greeks rarely use canned goods. The only canned food you can easily find in our supermarkets is tuna, we buy everything else from the grocer or our local farmers markets. Even our legumes are bought dry, which is only much cheaper and much healthier than canned and it makes a huge difference in how the food tastes.
Eleonora - Lydia Choursoulidou hey, I've been living 5 yrs in greece and I've missed the food so much ! can you provide with some good websites/blogs with high protein meals? thx😘
I had to look it up, but I did find a ψοθπλε οφ sites in English that you might like. Here they are: 1. greek.food.com/healthy 2. www.mygreekdish.com/category/collections/traditional-greek-taverna-recipes/ there aren;t that many sites with traditional Greek recipes in English. Just remember that Greeks roast most of their meets and fish either in the oven or on coals. We rarely fry anything and almost never deep fry. But you can look up recipes for specific dishes. It is easier to find those. Wikipedia actually has a good list of traditional Greek dishes for you to get ideas, here's the link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_cuisine
An Egyptian here too :) i love this diet cuz it's so much lighter on my tummy, all the ingredients are easily found here in Egypt & do not cost an arm & a leg, the varieties are endless, no need for fat loaded processed junk, carbs are allowed as long as the cooking methods r healthy with some olive oil....this diet works very well in Egypt & yes we are very much like the Greeks :)
I am from South Africa and to us eating olive oil or any oil of that matter is for only for the most rich people also veggies and nuts and seeds are very costly but I am new to your channel and just love all the advice and inspiration and are starting today to a better health thank you so much

Joanna Soh *Finally trying this good advice! Much love from beautiful Bangor, Maine where the scenery is absolute nirvana, recreational marijuana is legal and home prices are still some of the lowest in the entire western world.*
I am greek and i think that Mediterranean diet is the best. We have really health pies to. Not to mention that for our sweets (traditionally, and what I do) we don't use sugar but honey and of course nuts.
I'm Greek from Australia! These tips are spot on, my family go crazy for meal events, but everybody is healthy and full of energy! Yiayia will never let you go hungry ;)
Hello Joanna! I just wanted to say thank you for everything you have done. I used to be overweight for my age but after seeing your videos on weight loss and this Mediterranean diet, I have lost a lot of weight. Thank you so much!!
The problem with the western diet is the amount of sugar, GMO's and pre-packaged foods. We have moved away from all that is natural and opted for fast, convenient and empty nutritionally.
I notice I've started eating more like this after leaving the vegan hclf diet. my body is doing well with fish, eggs, and small amounts of dairy (skyr yogurt). finally losing the 25lbs I gained eating soo many carbs being vegan
infinitea Yea, because HCLF isn't that healthy as they say. YOU NEED HEALTHY FATS AND NOT EVERYONE STRIVES ON CARBS. I'm vegan and do agree with you. I'm glad you're feeling better on this diet. Everyone's body is different. ;)
Joanna... you should make a cookbook! I would love a compilation of all your recipes! My mother is Greek and all the things you say are definitely true!!! My mother and grandmother have taught me to love and enjoy cooking and nourishing myself with foods! This is the real way to nourish yourself, not like a raw food diet which does not provide nutrition... only water and fibers.
I am plant based with the exception of a portion of meat and one of eggs every week. I am from Italy and thought that being plant based or vegan would be impossible for us Italians, because there are not many fancy vegan fake meats and products made for us.. Nonetheless I noticed that all our simple basic everyday meals ARE all vegan or almost!!! Pasta with tomato sauce, a simple pizza with veggies, all those amazing risotto dishes, or baked casseroles of veggies or all those things are amazing and tasty and yet so simple and healthy! Yes, there are many meat filled dishes, but the most "poor" dishes of our tradition are amazing and it's now so easy to avoid eating too much meat or other :)
Most Lebanese food is very healthy. But I mean we do fry some things , but in general , our food is healthy and we also share cuisine with Greece, like the stuffed vine leaves! And we do love our olive oil! We use it with EVERYTHING!! And we also Greek yogurt but we call it "labneh"!
Wow I am so happy to now that I actually eat healthy. I am Turkish and the eat pretty much the same as the Greek people. And it rly didn't shock me when you said they pulled out the nits and seeds 😂 I'm so used to that. The stuffed paprika is called dolma in Turkish we just love our veggies :))
I know nothing about what turkish eat in their home on a daily bases, but in the street food they eat so much meet just Like we arabs and thats not very good. love dolma so much its my no 1 meal.
Yes I am from that part of the world....you are also correct mentioning yogurt as a basic breakfast, but I think the white breads and sugar is bad here as much as in the us or Europe , and the rice in the Far East is a better way to go ...
Joanna u speak from ur heart ...good intention for all ...plz gve Greek recipes of ur favourite Mediterranean meals..esp.stuffed bell peppers ,grilled veggies etc
Thank you so much Joanna for the Mediterranean diet :) Actually i'm on my journey to lose weight and ur video is inspiring me so so much :) I'm also following the new Ricky Dawson's guide the 7 Golden Tips and it also contains a lot of valuable information that's helpful. Thank you again :)
Oh u r right, it's available on a separate website www.7GoldenTips.com , i found it on his official website. I know it's really frustrating to be over weighted but all is possible with a strong determination. Good luck my dear :)
+Sumayya Hassan this isn't burger king so why are you trying to get things your way? smh thuis is her channel and she's an angel for even sharing things with us
+Antoinette Ratliff shez d lovely youtuber i know, what I asked was a favor from her coz m her fan n it vil mean a lot if she consider it.she got d potential n it vil b an awsm video.
Hi Joanna, thanks for all your lovely videos... very clear instructions, lively and not boring. So far the best of all the other videos that I have seen. 👍👍👍
Yeah, I really love Greek salad. Am a Malaysian girl and it's funny that this is what I usually make every morning before I go to work for my lunchbox and my colleagues will tease me that I'm such a health freak! Well, they still enjoy whatever I bring to work as we all share everything that I cook so I am usually the person they'll go to if they want some healthy salads or generally main courses! P/S: What I bring to work is basically like a bento box! It's complete with salads, main courses and healthy desserts! :D
awww Joanna i wish u could also visit the Northern part, Thessaloniki at least, my hometown, where food is considered even more of a "holy ritual" and mc donald's, since u mentioned it, didn't make it at all in the food industry..all 3-4 of them shut down eventually..(!!) loved it, keep it up..u give the hesitant, procrastinating people like me a huge motivation with your energy and passion :)
Hello there! :) About the yogurt you must try Bulgarian Classic Yogurt. Its the best thing ever! I'm from Bulgaria and i grew up with Yogurt in my diet. It's also the country from which the Yogurt come from and there are many different types, from cow, from sheep, from goat e.t.c. :)
I guess by mediterranean they mean only certain countries as I am Catalan and we do eat heavy dairy and aninal products and so much less fruit ( basically only in pies or melon with pork ham), lots of bread, pastries, cheese, duck confitc pasta with bechamel and meat filling, cured meats, chicken, fish, s little rice but not so much, salad is usually only eaten in the summer... and it is still 'Mediterranean' the French diet is a very close diet to ours just so you can have an idea
I was hoping to see a few more recipes here, especially since every time I've researched "Mediterranean dishes" or "Mediterranean diet" I had difficulty finding things I would enjoy. But nice video overall.
happy that you enjoyed your trip ! you should probably visit Tunisia , morroco , Spain.. and you will taste the most spicy and best food ever :D and go further exploring the Mediterranean life style
I know this is an old video, but that outfit is really gorgeous on you! I'm just starting this diet for reducing inflammation. I'm hoping it works. It seems easier than other diets.

I'm Italian and I eat in this way on a daily basis. If you follow this guidelines you can maintain your weight without much stress
I agree!
What guidelines?
Hi Adele. What are your thoughts on pasta?
Pizza with pineapple
Joanna, you're always charming and personable.
While at the same time, direct and to-the-point.
Very few people can do that.
very true! I agree and that's what I love about her!!

I'm Arab and I LOVE this , it's very close to what I eat everyday .. everything is VERY good and healthy
Yea I'm pretty sure the "arab diet" is included in the Mediterranean diet
I am greek and i think that Mediterranean diet is the best. We have really health pies to. Not to mention that for our sweets (traditionally, and what I do) we don't use sugar but honey and of course nuts.
Being Greek myself I'm so happy you made this video! You really got the point of our lifestyle and that is always amazing for me 💕
+Joanna Soh Yeah it really is filling. I think it's mostly because of the amount of olive oil that we use!
I love this video☺️I lost 100 lbs eating this way and exercising. I will definitely be trying the roasted vegetables with rice that you showed.
I'm Greek from Australia! These tips are spot on, my family go crazy for meal events, but everybody is healthy and full of energy! Yiayia will never let you go hungry ;)

agreed, was just thinking that
You could try greek yogurt instead of skyr it's much more delicious and personally greek yogurt keeps me fuller for longer time than skyr
that tea cup! that's how much coffee I drink in a day
I have been on KETO but it is quite a challenge. Too few carbs. Thinking about trying Mediterranean. Thanks for the videos.👍

If you eat properly, you will look more beautiful as you get older. That is how it should work. You should be able to be like wine.
