      WeeScottishLass Firstly, thank you. It's nice hearing someone from another country appreciate many of the wonderful things about America. And Americans do like your accent, as well as many others from around the world. I think that perhaps one reason we have a mutual affection is our Love of FREEEEDOM!!! :D

      looks like youtube is propagating new videos again.
      this randomly showed up as a "recommended" for me just today. That might be why it's "picking back up steam again".
      also to correct something, it mostly depends on where you are in the states... for the north east...
      winter = snow
      spring = rain/mud
      summer = hot
      fall = dry / cool
      more or less something along those lines. It's much more common for spring to have rain than fall. Additionally all the melting snow contributes to the wetness of spring.
      and as I write this... 9 inches of snow slowly pile up outside waiting for me to shovel -_-

      We're not hated to the extent that the news suggests. Millions of people try to move here every year because they perceive a better life.
      I talk to visitors whenever I can and they tell me what they enjoy about the USA. They tell me what surprised them when they arrived. Some examples of the surprising things they found: people are usually very friendly and open, prices are unexpectedly low, the drivers on the highway seem to have a lot of discipline, and the country is BIG.

    Americans love Scotland because your accent is awesome, your whisky is awesome, your historical warrior culture is awesome, both our countries have had wars against the English, and a lot of Americans have Scottish blood in our veins. There's probably more Americans of Irish descent now, but Scottish culture has been a major influence on the US and Scots were settling in the US for a lot longer and really set the cultural tone for a lot of parts of the US.
    Honestly, if I was going to visit the British Isles, I would fly into Scotland, and spend my entire trip there.

      I was in agreement with you until your statement about the Scottish culture being a major influence on the US and setting the cultural tone for a lot of parts of the US. The influence and cultural tone, in large part, is a result of people of color....slaves, blacks from Africa. Even to this very day the language, music, food, overall vibe and style has been adopted, embraced, claimed and stolen from it's origin. And the origin is not from Europeans. Don't get it twisted.

      Not true. I hate the Queen's English, the New York and New Jersey accents, and I'm not all that fond of the Texan accent. Some southern accents are pretty, my favorite being Oklahoma. Boston is kinda cool, especially since that's where my parents and girlfriend are from. Scottish and Australian English are both nice. I speak Spanish and enjoy it, but there are dialects of it that I don't enjoy... the ones in Spain and Argentina being unfavorable to me. Italian is nice. Romanian too. French is kinda dull and lazy sounding to me. There are many other languages that have accents (Russian, Arabic and Asian languages, and others) that just don't do it for me. So, to say that Americans just love accents in general... nope.

    Found your posts when I was telling my 8 year old daughter about our Scottish heritage. My grandmother immigrated from Scotland with her parents when she was young. She unfortunately passed away before my youngest daughter was born so I am trying to pass along what I know about our history (which unfortunately isn’t much). My daughter was so excited so find out she is half Scottish and absolutely loves the accent and tries to replicate it. That will take awhile lol. She and I both can’t wait to find out more about our Scottish heritage and look forward to one day being able to visit there. Have enjoyed your posts!! Thanks so much!

    I just adore your videos!! I found your channel by watching one you did with Diane. My husband calls her "the adorable Irish girl" and now calls you "the adorable Scottish girl" when he asks if you have a new video. It's so nice to hear when people from other countries say nice things about the US. My sister was going to college in New Zealand when the September 11th attacks happens. She said she her so many people saying horrible things about the US at the time to her. They were even more rude, if they found out she was a Texan. In Summer, we only have Summer. The rest of the year it's like Mother Nature pulls a season card out of a hat to see if it's going to be Fall, Winter, or Spring weather. We've had days where I was wearing shorts and flip flops in the morning, and by the time the sun was going down, it was snowing.

    Of course I love Scotts. You all represent half my blood heritage. I also happen to live immersed in Appalachian sub-culture, which has deep Celtic roots, both Scotts and Irish. One minor example is what we locally call "hogmaw," also known as "stuffed sow belly." It is an American version of haggis. Another example is "hillbilly fiddle" music, music for traditional Appalachian dancing. That fiddle music is a replacement for bagpipes. The list gets longer.
    I also happen to be a card carrying member of a Scottish clan. Something we say in my area is, "All Scotts are related to other Scotts, and all Scotts are related to royalty." So from my youth, I was raised to acknowledge Scotts as kinsmen.

    Wee Scottish Lass, you're adorable! I'm an American living in the South, state of Virginia, in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains! I, too, love this country.
    Scots-Irish migrated down the Great Appalachian Valley, and they are the ancestors for many people living in the Appalachians. Many of us still say words and phrases of Scots-Irish origin, and the Appalachian music has its roots in the music brought here by Scottish and Irish settlers. It's beautiful!
    I started looking at pictures of Scotland and Ireland, and immediately thought, "Oh, my! This looks exactly like where I live! No wonder my ancestors settled here, in the Blue Ridge and Great Smokey Mountains!!! It's just like home to them!"
    I am extremely proud to be of Scots-Irish ancestry. They were a tough, hard-working people, and those traits are still found in their ancestors today.
    If you ever come to the Blue Ridge Mountains--I live in Roanoke, Virginia, in Southwest Virginia--I would love to show you around.

      bbonner422 - Started in Belfast and made our way South on the Eastern side of Ireland. Saw the Cliffs of Moher. Did not get up North to see Giants Causeway. Was disappointed about that. Went around the Ring of Kerry. Never got down there to County Cork and that surrounding area. Disappointed about that too. Only had a week. You really need more time. I would have loved to experience and explore more of Ulster and well just everywhere. My maternal grandfather’s genealogy goes back to all the ancient kings of all four provinces. The place is in my blood.

    *We Americans love the Scots, their fighting spirit & your beautiful accents. I believe the largest segment of our Anglo population in the U.S.A. traces it's roots back to Old World Scotland, England & Ireland. My family has been here for generations. When we kids would ask our grandfather about our family history? He would only tell us we were "Scot, Cherokee, Devil & Dog." Lol! Your mentioning of the vastness of America is why a lot of Americans don't travel much abroad. America is so BIG there are places that I have never been & may never see in my lifetime. It would take several lifetimes to explore it all especially because of having to spend most of the time making a living. We have the mountains, the hills & canyons, vast forests, the deserts, the tropics, the beaches. Every town & state are different. There are many different American accents not just one. There are the Boston accents, the New York Northeast accents, the Midwest accents, the Carolina Coastal accents the southern accents, Cajun accents, Texas & Western accents. America is a BIG place like you said!*

  • @xXThePanzerXx
    @xXThePanzerXx 9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I can verify us Americans love the Scottish. They are generally some of our favorite people, one of my personal favorite people, because they are down to earth, cool, not cocky and we have this kind of image of Scotts as being brave, strong willed people who fight and stand up for what they believe in. I am from the American state of West Virginia and a nickname for my people is "hill billy" we got this nickname due to a large number of Scotts settling here due to the mountainous terrain of West Virginia (we are known as the mountain state, our motto is "wild and wonderful") and the Scotts gained great admiration from George Washington referring to them as the brave billies in the hills (I guess a nickname for Scottish people is billies?) and thus the nickname for my people came from Scotts.

    • @soccerchamp0511
      @soccerchamp0511 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +anthony sauls I've heard that the name hillbilly came from the Scots-Irish who settled in the backcountry. They were known as "billies" because they supported protestant William of Orange (who they called King Billy) over the catholic King James II during the Glorious Revolution.

    • @xXThePanzerXx
      @xXThePanzerXx 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      soccerchamp0511 very interesting. I am familiar with King William of Orange but to be honest my area of study is more towards Rome and the 1st and 2nd world war so while I am somewhat familiar with other time lines I would not claim to know a whole lot about them.

    • @rawwbnoles4787
      @rawwbnoles4787 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +soccerchamp0511 That's about 95% true. We also call them hillbillies because of they tend to live in the hills of the Southeast. I'm talking about the North Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia area. You're absolutely right about their Scots-Irish ancestry and about the support of William of Orange. It is important to note that this moniker is specific to the Southeast, and maybe parts of the Ozarks. Of course, there are mountains in the Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Montana), but the majority of that area is of a different ancestry, so the moniker doesn't apply. There's a much larger mixture of cultures in the Northwest. Native American, Pacific Islander, Mexican, and East Asian.

    • @xXThePanzerXx
      @xXThePanzerXx 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Burn Blister this is true but the name is generally associated with West Virginians and the origination of the name came as thus and that is what I meant.

    Comeing from a Scottish person I adore America and am hoping to one day move there one day❤️😍 we love how u don't have school uniforms and ur amazing food we also LOVE our food we love ur massive building and ur big shops because here in Scotland we don't get Sephora or Beverly Hills Anastasia we love ur massive houses and cars and swimming pools in ur garden that u can go to in the hot summer sun where as we hardly ever get sun we are jealous of ur natural sun tan but we end up looking like oranges with fake tan trying to achieve a natural tan colour ( we love love love America)

      Chloe, behave your self , that is from a Scot, she forgot to tell you we have massive castles , and it is not a good look if a Scot tries to get a suntan in the sun . Scottish lassies look very beautiful with there pale skins , as when they grow old they look a lot younger than folks who loved lying in the sunshine .Take it from me as my wife who is a Scot did not go out in the sun here in Australia , has a skin very much softer than one who has done , wrinkles a lot less . True.

    lol, so I stumbled on your video. I'm American and am living in Florida. I think it's so funny that y'all love our 'accents' when I love yours. I've talked so a few tourist and I get mesmerised by y'all accent. It's kind of embarrassing, since I've not done that with any other accent but Scottish & Irish. (yes I'm aware they are different)

    American here. I think you hit spot on about the accent. My girlfriend and I both find the Scottish accent absolutely magical. Americans are also very proud of their Scottish heritage (where it applies). We always catch Albannach (Scottish drums and pipe group who travel extensively through the US) whenever they come through.
    Thanks for the video. Very entertaining!

    I think you are the cutest lass I've ever encountered on TH-cam...love your vids; very entertaining indeed. I was stationed with the USAF in Sassenach land (RAF Woodbridge, near Ipswich, Suffolk) for eight years. My absolute favorite place to visit was anywhere in Scotland, by far. Western Highlands, OMG. There are a huge number of Scots-heritage descendants in the U.S., and they're very proud of "The Old Country" as well they should be. Most Americans think very highly of Scotland and the Scots; we share a long history of seeking freedom and liberty for our people. And we do indeed love the accent...actually, American-accented English is thought to be originally derived from the Scots-Irish accents filtered through the sound-worlds of the large number of other languages spoken by immigrants to the New World over the years. You're always welcome on this side of the pond if you're Scottish!

    • @katiew5189
      @katiew5189 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      C MJ lol, what? every human being on the planet has an accent. Even if your accent is sort of a standard American accent (which is an American accent that has no clear regional dialect markers). That is still an accent. And I am sure you have some sort of northern accent because there are many different accents in the Northern United states. Personally, I have a pretty standard American accent, but I am from Chicago, so I say some things with a bit of a Chicago accent or a Midwestern accent. There is no such thing as having no accent at all unless you never speak.

    • @prestonowens4594
      @prestonowens4594 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, yeah I think every speaker of every language inherently has some sort of accent. With that said, as a Midwesterner I can’t really tell if what our accent sounds like other than simply “accent-less” To me, we all kinda sound bland, but everything is spoken pretty clearly.

    LOL. I'm from California and travelled with a Scottish ex-colleague throughout the west of the USA. At breakfast the servers never understood the drink she was asking for - coffee. She pronounced it "coffay" and the "co-" part was further back in the throat than how we say it. They'd look at her weird and then I'd say that she wants "KAH-fee". Then they'd go "Ohhhh.". I couldn't understand how they couldn't figure it out. What else do you expect people to ask for at breakfast? But it was fun to see. Then, after she got her "coffay" she'd say "coloured water", as she felt it too weak to be considered proper coffee.

    I am of Scotch descent and I think what I admire of the Scotch is there resistance to oppression throughout history whether it was from the Romans or the English. Perhaps it is that sense of rebellion you we have in common. Accents are funny thing. You don't have to go across an ocean to experience different accents of English language. Heck where I live if I go an hour or less I can hear 3 distinct accents. Northern New Jersey, Southern New Jersey/Philly, and when you get around Harrisurg PA. It's all good.

      Somerled Henderson I know Scotch isn't the correct word but the term Scotch Irish has been passed down for many generations. I know this because my mothers side of the family is Scots Irish. I learned from the actor/comedian Craig Ferguson that Scots is the correct term. He'd go crazy when somebody said Scotch in the wrong context. Aww, I love Craig Ferguson and guess why....he has such a cute Scottish accent or he did when he first came over here.
