When the late comedian Robin Williams did a Scottish voice (see his 'golf' routine) it sounded like a bunch of Scottish sounding gibberish where every third word was 'fuck' or something similar. Years ago, I frequented a pub in California run by a Scot. And I remember that for the longest time I thought I had done something incredibly wrong because he kept insulting me. Then I noticed he was doing it to a lot of the patrons, and fired back at him. We devoted a chalkboard behind the bar to keep score of which of us insulted the other better. It weighed heavily in his favor.

I'm from the southern US. A favorite term of endearment around here is the phrase "Bless your little heart". But it's also used by older southern women as an insult disguised as false sympathy. For example, "He fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, bless his little heart."

Okay, so, a question: have you ever encountered any Americans who stay in Scotland long enough to fall into the Scottish way of swearing, and then you found it awkward on hearing them? Or was it a cool thing that they were acclimating to Scottish swearing? I ask because I've vowed to myself I will make the journey to Scotland within 2-3 years, if not sooner. I seem to have this knack of soaking up other people's ways of speaking like a sponge without even trying, if I'm not paying any attention. I don't have to be in a particular area very long to start talking like everyone else around me, and I'm not even trying to be mocking or insulting. It's just a talent I have. I feel I'd have to try very hard NOT to talk like everyone around me, and that does NOT feel natural, if you get what I'm saying. :P

So, a walloper is meant as an insult, implying that he can't find anything else, not even a sheep. Much like the German band, Die Toten Hosen. The band's name is actually an old phrase meaning, "the dead pants" as in nothing going on down there. Lack of sexual ability is an insult in almost every culture.

So there's a LARP in which I play that has a parallel to Scotland called Caldonia. Caldonians are fully human in this game, though they live in close proximity to the Dwarven mountains, and other races like Dwarves, Gnomes, Elves, etc... are considered demi-human. Well, to make a short story long, my friend, who plays a Gnome, called Caldonians demi-human. My answer to him, as my Caldonian character, was, "Caldonians are nae demi-human, ye wee dobber!"
The only thing is your cute voice and accent actually make most of these insults sound like compliments. I bet here in the 'States you could probably say these things to anyone and they'll thank you XD
