    I owned the first year one. Coolest looking Sporty ever! Changed to mids and the handling improved immensely. Rear shocks are horrible, though, and the stock seat really sucks. Changed it for a springed one (not from Harley..) I miss the little bike... I would have it back on a heartbeat, and would do something about the suspension. Great for around town. Great video!

    When riding ANY motorcycle, it depends a lot on the age of the driver. Way Back in 1983, I was just starting, what would be a Twenty year career, in the U.S. Air Force. The only transportation I had was a 1981 Kawasaki 550 GPZ. I was 22 years old at the time. I was stationed at Dyess AFB located in Abilene Texas. I rode that bike home to Northeast Arkansas and back on a two week leave. A 12 hour ride one way! I rode it home and back with no issues, except some rain. Now, I turn 58 years old in about a month. No Way could I make that ride today on that same bike. Maybe, just maybe, I could on a Goldwing. Love your channel and thanks for reminding me of my youthful days. I live a very modest life now, but looking back, God has always been good to me!

    I have a 1990 Sporty 1200 with drag bars and forward controls, can confirm, not comfortable for long distance rides but it’s fine for an hour or two. It’s a fun setup though. I’ve got a bigger tank, it’ll get me about 120 miles down the road even hot rodding it the whole way.

    I remember a trip back in the 70's with a Sportster back when there was gas rationing going on. I had to carry a one gallon metal can along which began to leak at the seam because of the vibration. What a trip. Cold as heck in August in South Dakota.

    I daily a 48, and I’m always on the freeway or highway. Haven’t had a problem even took a sideswipe from a car and manage to keep the bike up. It has plenty of power for the road. I have a large sissy bar where I at times put a large hiking bag and go from Ontario to San Diego with 50 plus pounds of gear. With only 1 gas stop. Does very well. That’s a total of 88 miles for me.

    Sportsters actually get decent milage. Atleast 100 miles on a fill tank. My 96 1200 sport made it 116 before it spit and another 12 miles on reserve. Thats eith a 3.5L peanut tank. Yes its not a road trip bike. But a 100 miles? Itll take me an hour an a half to need gas. Thats still pretty decent.

    Those 1200 Evo's are no joke. They make plenty of power and torque. If guys rode their 40hp Panheads cross country, there's no reason you can't ride your 68hp Evo cross country. That's how I look at it.
    Also, Evo's are the best engine Harley ever made on my opinion, and they respond the best too modifications.
    Edit: Shit my first bike was a 42hp Honda Shadow 750, I rode that bike everywhere, in every weather, rain snow or shine, up mountains, in Twisties, and I'm a big guy. It did just fine on the highway, would easily cruise at 65 -70, but anything more than that and she struggled with me on it.

Like the bike doesn’t feel solid on the ground. It kinda swerved. Again maybe it’s me. Maybe I’m a chicken. But that’s what scares me about my 48. No. Do you need a bagger to road-trip? No. Do you need a motorcycle that you like in general to road-trip? Yes.

    What is a Sporster?

  • @awerewolf8594
    @awerewolf8594 ปีที่แล้ว

    My opinion and little experiences are why Sportster is best choice for city, for runing from country to country or Highway/Freeway. I like classic Harley Softails Dyna and Touring, but this models had best performance on Highway Freeway cuz little Fuel economy, but when you crossing countryes and cityes, its big Fuel economy. Sportster had very liitle fuel economy. XL 883 can 3.6 liters to 100 km, and XL 1200 XR 1200 can 4-4.5 liters to 100 km. And its no matter when you are on city, crossing countryes or Highway Freeway. Sportster engine is fuel economy than EVO Twin Cam or M8. When I was rided Street Glide and Electra Glide with M8, on Highway fuel economy was very low but out of Highway Freeway, I just crossed to 280 kilometers to the south and from full petrol tank had 1/4 fuel in petrol tank, and I was just rided on Easy Rider. MOST owners of VRSCA (VRod) tolds "Its fuel eater, cuz under 8 liters never going". Wrong, V Rod can have 5-6 liters to 100 km.

I fill up once a day and it cost me 484. So really for let that bother. You also have a reserve tank and plenty of time to actually find a station. But it's a sexy fun bike.

    BE SURE TO TELL THE FOLKS THAT ALL SPORTSTER USED TO HAVE A THE "TRAP DOOR", WHICH ENABLES THE MECHANIC TO ACCESS THE TRANSMISSION GEARS, WITHOUT TEARING THE WHOLE ENGINE DOWN.

    • @sleeper.simulant7327
      @sleeper.simulant7327 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rishabh tripathi the 48 makes significantly more power (74 hp I believe) and a lot more torque (either close or just over 80 lb ft torque) in the 1200cc configuration. The Vulcan S is quite peppy though and makes more then enough power for highway cruising, and weighs a lot less too. Not really a fair comparison, the Harley Street 750 is a direct competitor to the Vulcan S, they are closely matched

    Mind if I take issue with you on helmets? The helmets we use on bikes are not designed for that purpose. Layered glass helmets are built to protect the head through the destruction of the helmet. First, sliding across the pavement. This seldom happens with cycles. Second is impact, which the helmet absorbs by breaking. Breaking only happens over a certain speed. Below that speed, a layered glass helmet bounces. The helmet bouncing breaks necks. It breaks at a certain speed, but much above that the rider is dead anyway. The main value of the helmet is an open coffin funeral. Any rider who says they have never had an accident is lying. I have been protected twice by helmets. One was in traffic where I was thrown over the car and rolled. I spent a couple months in a neck brace.The second was in the desert where the dirt kept the helmet from bouncing. Yes, helmets save lives, but they cost almost as many as they save. Pro helmet people don't want you to know that. A lot of work needs to be done developing a helmet specifically designed for motorcycles.

    I see a naked bike or riding with no windshield as a safety feature. At 90 you're hanging on for dear life... it just encourages you to slow down and enjoy the ride, rather than pin it and blow by everybody.
