@@G3soh This is a typical criticism from these testers. They only have bikes for a couple of hours if that and have to get used to them quickly. I have an NT1100 which is widely considered one of the most complicated to operate (switch gear + layout of menus) and in a couple of days i got used to it and its fine now. These are nitpicks and are not real issues with the bikes. Fuel range, vibrations, seating comfort, motorway and cruising manners, low speed manoeuvrability, quality + fit and finish of switchgear are all far more important and are barely covered by these tests. Also comparing a 35k ducati to a 15k yamaha is lunacy. Its like comparing a Rolex with a Swatch on the basis that they are both watches. Euro bias is real.

The 1290 SDR Evo weighs 211kg, not 190kg. 190kg is its dry weight. If you're giving wet / curb weight figures for all the other bikes - as you should - give us the curb weight for the KTM, too, otherwise you're misleading us.
I've owned 3 of these bikes (KTM, Triumph and currently, the new MT10) and I've ridden everything else. Honestly can't believe you place the Triumph above the MT10 for the road (and possibly even the track). MT10 will ride all day in Power mode 1 (which I seriously don't believe is snatchy) without any lack of immediate low end grunt and along with the Aprilia, has the most characterful engine. Agree with you on the KTM, think it's absolutely the best all around bike, but it's so good, you need to be doing silly speeds for it to make sense. Downside is KTM reliability, hence why I have my second MT10. Triumph suspension is a nightmare and the harshness cannot be dialled out, I know my suspension and tried everything without success. Equally, its electronics are shocking and the quickshifter has a carzy amount of delay biolt in which cannot be adjusted. Aprilia too tiny and uncomfortable for anyone over 5ft 9" but great otherwise. Ducati nearly £30k (come on guys, let's stay in the real world). I tested the V4S model and it's great, but you simply cannot use the power on the road, so what's the point. If you want a Ducati, buy the Streetfighter V2 and use everything it's got. BMW is ergonomically similar to the Aprilia and very tight on leg room, so not comfortable. MT10 suspension is set a fraction hard for the road, but dialling out is easy and a good set up can be achieved for road or track. KTM definitely has the most compliant suspension and regardless of it's engine, the Kawasaki rides like a barge and is more of a cruiser than a sports naked and should be compared against Diavel's and the like. Ultimately, you place the Yamaha last which I believe is doing an injustice to the bike. I've bough my second one (after stacking up all of the options) because it has what is probably the most wonderful engine that's ever been created for a bike. It is all day and even touring comfortable (when fitted with comfort seat), handles just about perfectly on the road (and decent on track), is as fast as anything to 140mph, has typical Japanese reliability and you can buy two of them for the price of the Ducati and have enough spare for a year's worth of track days. My order with my experience would be KTM 1st followed by MT10, then Aprilia, Ducati, BMW, Kawasaki and Triumph last. As said, reliability is the KTM's sticking point (but great when they're working) and I won't personally be buying another. Cheers.
Thanks for this great view. I'm currently looking at a supernaked to join my CBR600RR in the garage. I'm favouring the MT10SP for many of the reasons you state. I want to open the garage and my bike works. I've heard too many horror stories from many of the European brands.
@@King_Harrold Hi. If you are looking for an all day comfortable naked with superbike performance, incredible character and handling to match, I seriously don't think you would regret buying the MT10. As nice as the SP looks, I'm still not convinced that electronic suspension works as well as standard suspension with a good set up. There have also been many reliability issues with electronic suspension, but to be fair, Yamaha seem to have it more sorted than most. I think Ducati have the reliability sorted now, but other European brands including BMW still lag behind the Japanese. Just simple things irritate with some European brands, for example, every single BMW I've owned has used copious amounts of oil. The Japanese bikes never use a drop, so it's one less thing to worry about. Anyway, whatever you choose, enjoy it and ride safe. Cheers.
I wish I could personally pin this comment and say 'Forget watching this video, just read this gentleman's comment' Reliability is 100% something these people should talk about more. They even touched on the 1200RS needing to be looked at by the dealer the day they got it... I mean.. hello??? Massive down score for that one in terms of ownership Christ!
You just wrote the best naked bike shoot out review and I totally agree with you. Wish you could get the funding to put this review into video form. I just bought a used superduke gen 3. Absolutely mint condition and loaded with power parts. Very keen to pick it up and get riding. Could you elaborate please on why you believe the engine in the MT10 to be the greatest engine put into a bike and what its character is like? The LC8 has a bunch of character I’ve found. Do you agree with this statement? Cheers.
As a KTM owner some of strongest points that sealed my purchase were ergos and all day rideability. I'm 6'1". The taller you are the more the ergos of the KTM align with you. It's a tall bike, with the most leg room and the least forward lean to the bars for a tall person. It seems crazy that you can get a bike like it, and ride it all day long with no problems. Oh..I'm an older (53) guy too. So the no chiropractor is good stuff.

What a brilliant review, one of the best I've viewed in a long time. 👏 Bravo! However, I will agree, you could have tried to procure a '22 mt10sp for the review. It's a cracking bike but still probably would have finished last🙄. Not even close to comparing "apples to apples" so to speak. A Ducati with carbon wheels, etc. that cost twice as much as the mt? Not a fair comparison in the least! I have a new gen '21 mt09 and a '18 mt10. Perfectly happy with my old gen mt10, it's a hoot!
I’ve been wanting to upgrade from my FZ09 to a new MT09 but have now really been eyeing the MT10. I just want the bit extra horsepower of the 10, can you kinda speak on that a bit?
I have a new MT10 on the way, ordered in March and arriving early November. I'm pretty sure a set of sintered pads, a straight through link pipe and a flash will make it more like the other bikes in this list. I'm expecting about another 15-20 ponies so better stoppers are probably a good idea. That's what's in store for mine once it's in my hot little hands.
The title of this video caught my eye and I am pleased to see that the new bike I just bought is on the list - KTM 1290 Super Duke R EVO. It’s a respectable scooter as far as I can tell. 30:59 i have the 2024 Street Triple 765 R, and it doesn't have that problem with anti-wheelie. i can pin the throttle in a low gear, and the front tire will just barely skim above the road surface. utterly smooth. making me look like an absolute pro that actually knows what he's doing. i have to imagine if they can get it this right on the 765, they probably have on the 1200 as well... but that's just a guess.
I own a 2015 1050Speed Triple R. I rode the 765RS and the 1200 speed triple. I rode the 675 street triple when it was a first launched. The new 765 RS is a stunning bike. But I still enjoy the analogue simplicity of my speed Triple 1050 R. With good tyres on it Ross’s corsa 2’s it’s brilliant fun. Yes it’s not as light, agile or quick. But its still a great bike.. I've owned a Z H2 for a year now and love it. May not be a track weapon but has a fast road bike it's the business. You guys should try one that has (like mine) had a dyno tune to iron out some of the kooky factory fuelling. How does 230 rwhp and 157nm of torque at the back wheel sound? It's breathtaking.
Agreed.... Also own a ZH2. I see these dorks placing all emphasis on track.... They're naked bikes. 95% of these buyers are probably riding a MC 2x a month on sunny Sundays to lunch. Ride a ZH2 and you'll see why its a special bike Not only now, but probably iconic years from now. Intended purpose for these bikes the ZH2 hands down. Buy it now, while you can.
In my experience the Aprilia interface on adjusting the electronics is quite easy. But, if you didn’t know to press and hold the Engine map button to launch the electronics main menu it would be impossible to figure out. Once that menu is open everything is there and easy to adjust.
The SDr engine is obviously the most fun for the street, but like others said already the extra legroom and a tall 6th gear for extended tank range help make the bike practical. I thought i'd keep my 2016 1290se for life until the evo came out with a full race akra exhaust the newest bike is even better.
What would you consider a great WINTER bike. Something that is reliable in the cold. Good grip, doesn’t mind being dirty, not affected by Road grit much. Won’t kill you in the wet?

You know the problem? I wanted a Tuono really bad this year, to upgrade my 2007. Well, it's $10K after taxes more than the fully loaded Super Duke 1290R Evo. $10K! In six years Aprilia added something like $9000 to the price of their bike, which was when I last priced it. So I'm just waiting for the email from the dealer to tell me that the 1290R has gone through PDI and OMVIC so I can pick it up.
What a wonderful video. Thoroughly enjoyed just seeing all the naked being broke down. They're all perfect (for me) and I'm not a great racer so I'm just very excited to see those more experienced riders keeping manufacturers on their toes. Great video lads well done!
Funny how the goal posts have changed as to what classifies as a “super naked”. I own a new Suzuki GSXS 1000. It is fast as sh%t, and has good enough suspension and brakes to put up some decent track times. It also costs WAY less than all of these competitors. I was actually faster on it around track than my 2016 CBR 1000.

A few of the Kaw ratings I don't understand. Low marks on the brakes? Brembo calipers/master cylinder, and steel braided brake lines. They do have to haul extra weight, but are fantastic brakes. I'm super pumped to see the ktm as y'all's top super naked! I want one so bad.. L Twin for LIFE!! .. After Ducatis street fighter and the new bmw m1000R I'm sure they are working on something now but probably won't see it till 2024
Ok one thing I'll have to add for the street riding performance is fuel consumption. You picked the SDR for the win (I also ride a SDR) one of the other things that sold me on the bike is it gets close to 2x mpg/kml then the other bikes no matter how easy you ride the engine. Anyhoo fabulous review, I enjoy all of your videos immensely. Keep up the good work.
@@simplicityrm It's a legitimate feature. When someone makes X horsepower and someone else makes the same X horsepower, but consumes a lot less fuel, then it should be noted. Some folks want a bonkers motorcycle with the practicality of a street naked, upright ergonomics, ease of maintenance-access, lower insurance kind of bike. Getting 42 mpg instead of 32 mpg with the same horsepower... what's not to like?
@@speedtriprr537 yeah, absolutely!! More responsive and compliant in sport riding, way way way better suspension feel, better riding position (if you like the dark side), and by far the best neoretro&performer looking bike on the market.
It makes sense the ktm was slower on track than it felt and was expected. The ktm motor is geared towards the mid-ranged power losing some of its top end. The reason it still feels faster than it is on track is a mix of: head position, lack of windscreen of any kind, and the shorter wheelbase which enables easier wheelies on command.
@@johnnyblaze1372 eh, disagree there. Their rc 8c and all their motocross bikes are top of the line. The dukes were never meant to be a race bike - it's essentially more like a hypermoto/hypermotard than a r1.

@@abymathew295 Well I couldn’t get both feet flat on the ground, whereas on the Streetfighter I can. Maybe you have short torso/long legs and I’m the opposite. I was intrigued by the amount of torque on that bike, but I never actually rode one, I just sat on a couple at dealers.
I just put on the full Akra eve system on my gen2 with the Akra map, its unbelievable smooth now! I can't see me selling the bike in the near future although I would like the ZH2 as a 2nd bike just because of the supercharger :)
I have the SP. Can you confirm the weight? Ducati quote 196kg with the heavy exhaust. I have the full Akrapovic system like your test bike so it should be under 193Kg. Also in your magazine review there is a complaint that its all at the top end? This says to me that the engine mode was in medium power setting for the road. I use high/dynamic power mode in all 3 engine modes and the torque is mental. Wheelie at 90+ off the throttle in 3rd. My mate has just got the KTM evo and it's mega. He loves it. It's noticeably less powerful than my SP. I will say my previous Streetfighter V4S was a better road bike as the suspension on the SP is too hard for the road. The fuel range on the Ducati is ridiculous. 16ltr tank that only takes 15.3ltr from running out. The worse thing about the Ducati is the range. But that as far as I'm concerned is acceptable for such a beautiful thing that makes every ride feel special. Great review 👏 I'll be buying next month's mag too.
Have you figured out the weight claims yet? I can’t believe the Ducati as tested was heavier than the ktm, my guess is they got the number wrong and the duke does feel lighter when riding it.
KTM all day, best engine and the best hooligan bike of the lot, and isn't that what these nakeds are all about? I've ridden almost every bike on this list, and owned 3 of them... the SDR is the only one left in the garage.

Where's GSX-S1000?
Even though it might end up last, would've been nice to have it included.
The 1290 SDR Evo weighs 211kg, not 190kg. 190kg is its dry weight. If you're giving wet / curb weight figures for all the other bikes - as you should - give us the curb weight for the KTM, too, otherwise you're misleading us.
Have you ever kissed a girl?
@@E6EES Ask your mom.
Cheers.
Thanks for sharing! Great insight
I wish I could personally pin this comment and say 'Forget watching this video, just read this gentleman's comment'
Reliability is 100% something these people should talk about more.
It's a cracking bike but still probably would have finished last🙄. Not even close to comparing "apples to apples" so to speak. A Ducati with carbon wheels, etc. that cost twice as much as the mt? In my experience the Aprilia interface on adjusting the electronics is quite easy. But, if you didn’t know to press and hold the Engine map button to launch the electronics main menu it would be impossible to figure out. Once that menu is open everything is there and easy to adjust.

You know the problem? I wanted a Tuono really bad this year, to upgrade my 2007. Well, it's $10K after taxes more than the fully loaded Super Duke 1290R Evo. $10K! Ok one thing I'll have to add for the street riding performance is fuel consumption. You picked the SDR for the win (I also ride a SDR) one of the other things that sold me on the bike is it gets close to 2x mpg/kml then the other bikes no matter how easy you ride the engine.
