    I think we also need to consider the price of ownership. Just did the first desmo for my Ducati M821 & the bill was $2800. Not buying another Ducati. Parts for Aprilia where I live takes months to arrive. These are very real considerations when buying a bike which sometimes overshadow the price to buy.

    As an owner of the 2019 Tuono Factory I agree with your ranking. Aprilia really didn’t need to do much to improve an almost perfect motorcycle. All they really need to do is expand their dealer network and they would sell a boatload of these! Bottom line is you can’t go wrong owning any of these motorcycles, they’re all special! Great comparison video!

    I've owned a Tuono Factory for about 5 years and it is an amazing bike with the best noise in all of motorcycling. But I'm getting a little older and I was getting tired of the touchy throttle and lack of control at low throttle settings. The Ducati Streetfighter solved that issue for me so this year I traded my TV4F for an SFSV4. I actually like the looks and design of the new Tuono better than the Streetfighter but from my position the Streetfigher is far more manageable and easier to ride without sacrificing any performance. Maybe someday I'll own another Tuono but right now I cant get enough of the Ducati, its a better bike for me.

    I own a 2017 Tuono Factory and a few months back I bought a Ducati Streetfighter V4S (Parked the Tuono due to the lack of parts required to do the schedule valve check, it only took 3 1/2 months). I couldn't agree more with this review. The Ducati is too polished, to the point that unless you are really pushing it can be boring but the built quality and quality of parts used is far superior to the Tuono. The Tuono always keeps you entertained, if not by the sound then by that front wheel always fighting to leave the ground. Love both bikes but to the surprise of a few at the last Ducati meet, The Tuono is the best bike I ever owned.

    • @fostytou
      @fostytou 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@monkmoto1887 the coolant leak is the clickr clamp on the pancake pipe into the radiator if the bike was old (but doesn't sound like it). A common problem across many brands that use that style of clamp. If it was one of the early 2009 or 2010 bikes it could have been a weeping engine case which plagued a few of the early model bikes but was generally replaced under warranty immediately. I've been around a ton of them over the last decade and haven't seen any other common coolant or oil leaks. Maybe the reservoir was just overfilled during the PDI. Do you know where the key was from?
      I've put about 70,000 miles on 2 Tuonos and haven't had a leak at all except for when my friend ran the oil pan into a giant boulder. That leak was pretty minor we still wrote it 1200 miles before I head to fix it.
      I've reused the gaskets but you could always just throw RTV on the valve cover gasket or take the 20 minutes to change that gasket out later when it comes in. It shouldn't hold you up from doing a valve job or riding the bike.

    SDR owner here - I agree with this review. The issues that Neeves raises are legitimate: you have to be in the mood for it; the switchgear could be better; electronics can be fiddly. I leave the electronics in 'performance' mode with anti-wheelie ON, else it will lift the front wheel everywhere. I am not interested in electronically adjustable suspension. That said: all these motorcycles are superb fun, and you can't go wrong.

    You all owe to yourself to ride these bikes for more than 10 miles to see if it fits your needs. As a current 890R and Speed 1200 RS owner, I was looking for a motorcycle that would be an “event” to ride on the road (200 -400 mile backroads) and on the track (do nearly 3000K a year on the track). I weigh about 200 pounds without Kit and find the Speed very compliant overall and the 890R needed stiffer front cartridges. The Ducati spends its life in 2nd gear and sometimes 3rd gear and difficult to use/enjoy on public roadways. The Aprilia is a glorious bike but that heat and the urge to go fast never quits (lethal track bike). The Italian bikes have absolutely no fuel range. The BMW is the best Japanese bike made in Europe - sorry but it is not a super naked. The 1290R is an exceptional road bike, a true riot to ride but I wanted something more focused for the track and I didn’t want to spend money on updating the Duke for the track. Frankly the 890 Duke R will terrorize all these bikes on the road and I have yet to have been out lapped on it by any of these bikes at the track. I chose the Triumph bc it has stellar build quality, aesthetic appeal, sound road/touring manners and will and kick some serious arse at track as well with no extra fiddling or cash investment. On the move, it feels like a 400 pound bike (kid you not!) and it will cost you a lot of money to replicate this lithe feeling with the others. Again, ride them all and see which one meets your needs and have at it. Cheers.

      Thanks for the feedback! I've got 3 sportbikes at the moment and will lose one, probably an R1M, for my next bike. Her Street Triple is 90% of what I want in a motorcycle, and our rides tend to go 160-180 miles. One of the things I hate about my bikes is that I go empty at around 105 miles when at speed with the "the boys", a little more when I ride with my wife. How far does the Speed go on a tank? Is the gas gage accurate? Are the electronics as intrusive as they say?
      And how hard is it on tires? One of the things I love about her Street is that it doesn't eat tires.... I go thru a rear like an RS10 in about 1800-2000 miles and the fronts don't usually make it to the normal "replace it every other rear tire" interval I used to get away with.
      Maybe I should just get a Street Triple of my own?

      i never rode any of these but on the oad i am sure i would put my money on bikes like 890 against these. 1000+cc is just not usable on the road. lugging a superbike at around 60 miles shouldnt be as much fun as carving corners full throttle with even a 250cc bike

      I've ridden the top 3, and will take the Super Duke all day... I'm quite tall (195cm/6'4"), so I find it fits me well compared to the tiny Tuono. That said, it really is the most fun of all the bikes. Sure, the Aprillia sounds great and the Ducati is really pretty and faaaaaast, but the LC8 is a special engine and there simply isn't a bike on this list that will make you smile more than the SDR.

    I opted for a brand new tuono factory. The day I picked it up it went into limp mode and did every time I rode for a week. Took it back to be fixed and it kept doing it!!! After a big row I got my money back and bought a superduke which is a proper bundle of crazy fun and hasn’t missed a beat. I think the S22bridgestones are a great road tyre. Might be lagging a bit on track but this won’t ever go on track, I have a track bike for that. When you are riding round the alps in the wet you will be glad you aren’t on super corsas!!!! And they have a huge dry pace that is more than good enough for the road. It’s good for 500 mile days too.. and I’m an old man!!!!
    I’m disappointed the Aprilia didn’t work out as I’d always fancied one but it’s put me off for good.
    But these bikes are so good , I’d say buy the one you think looks cool and fits your budget!!!( apart from the Tuono 😂)

The Ducati is the super model of the bunch with stunning looks and poise. Money no object I would take the Streetfighter. I don't care much for the looks of the KTM but it does have a great motor. The Zh2 SE is not here but as a mental road bike it's hard to beat. It accelerates like nothing else here and always puts a grin on your face. We really are spoilt for choice these days. I went with a Streetfighter V4S 2021 after a test ride on a Superduke . Compared to my previous bike (BMW s1000RR) I found the Streetfighter to be a bit flat at low revs . It is frustrating around town at constant throttle all jerky and slapping chain, on and off the throttle on a second gear junctions can be a challenge.
    Once out on the open road and it is a different beast , it just makes you rev it , the thing flies , incredible handling. With the Acro exhaust fitted and a racing map it is even better .
    I am enjoying the bike even with the frustrating road manners at slow speed .
    It is my first bike with upright bars for many years, but at 62 years of age I thought I should grow up a bit .

It's just not a hypernaked, it doesn't belong in this group. If you need the hypernaked bragging rights the Aprilia is definitely the most complete of the remaining 4. I am a Tuono V4 and Speed Triple fan boy. I own one of each albeit older models. I was of course very interested about trying the 2021 versions of the Aprilia and Triumph. I did, on the same route two days apart. The Tuono is fantastic but is a facelift of the previous model. Compared to the Triumph it feels a generation older, which it is. The Speed Triple 1200RS is the best motorcycle I have ever experienced. OK, the engine in the Tuono is still the best engine ever and tops even the fantastic new 1160 triple. But the Triumph is a better bike, steers faster, brakes better, the engine is stronger, the gearbox/quickshift more precise, is easier to ride, more comfortable. Only the TFT is a letdown being too small and slow

    • @jace2wheel762
      @jace2wheel762 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me? This sounds picky AF, but range of the bikes. Triumph will crowd 300 kms to a tank. The Tuono, you'd be lucky to get 230kms out of it. And its got a bigger tank! Lol
      If that's the biggest concern...hahaha

    Thanks for the great shootout Michael. The new Speed Triple is personal fav of mine in terms of looks. Also, I like the idea of non-electronic Ohlins suspension. My car's electronic suspension has had all sorts of problems during the years and I wished so many times that my car had conventional ones instead of those. One complaint I have about the S3 is that it sounds a bit clinical and for some reason it lacks after market exhaust options. Triumph used to offer arrow mufflers and the full exhaust, but for the new model they offer nothing!!
