Great video! I'm upgrading my 2016 Jetta's system, and Crutchfield says they're 5.25" when I searched for them. Can you confirm that a 2016 MK6, with the standard speakers, can fit 6.5" on the doors? Thanks a lot!
Thanks Willy! Unfortunately i can’t confirm it since mine is a 2011 and a different generation than your 2016. One sure way to know (and it’s the long way) is to pull the door panel and measure the speaker. No guessing then! Lol good luck!
Did you use a foam ring in the front door panels, or also a ridged plastic ring like the rears. Also, can you knock out the old speaker and use the original plastic ring?
I used both the spacers and foam rings on all 4 locations. And as for reusing the factory speakers’ rings- i don’t know on that, since I didn’t attempt it
How well have the tweeters held up with the hot glue? When I was replacing mine, I was concerned with them rattling free. So I ended up modeling new tweeter brackets and had one of my friends 3D print them. My tweeters were from Focal and conveniently had a thread on the back where I could screw mount to the bracket and then plastic weld the bracket to the original mounting posts
You sure can but you’d have to be comfortable with custom audio work. Adding 6x9s to the rear deck shouldn’t be bad. BUT you’d definitely want to add an amplifier for that’s many speakers. This head unit is matched perfect for the rockford speakers I picked, but adding 6x9s would mean the rear’s output would be split in half to get the signal out to 4 locations. A 4 channel amp would fix that issue 😃 ( 2 channels for the fronts, the other 2 channels just wire two sets of line outputs- one to the rear doors, the other to the rear deck). You’ll likely also have to fade the audio to the rear just a little for the whole car sound to feel balanced. Then you should be golden!!
@Turbo Spool thank you. That's very helpful. I may just do the doors as you showed and leave it at that. I assume is a BIG upgrade from the stock speakers.
@@toolrammsteindeftones it sure was for me! But keep in mind that I had upgraded the head unit already. I do not know how these speakers sound with stock head unit power going go them.
@@turbospool the back speakers are wired pretty simple it's it's a basic component setup what two prongs. The front speakers are a little more complicated because there is a built-in crossover in the bottom speaker
My jetta (2017 SE) doesn't have tweeters in the A Pillar. Is there a way I can add them in assuming I buy new A pillars with the speaker cutouts? Also, will these speakers work with the factory infotainment center from Volkswagen? Thank you!
That would be correct. Buy used A-pillars with tweeters on them and run your wiring up to the speaker if you don't already have a random unused plug at that location (being for cars WITH tweeters there). If you do have plugs there you can always test for current with radio on/off to confirm they are in fact for tweeters. If you don't have plugs there, then you'd have to run your wiring from the door speaker, through the door/ doorjam harness, up to the pillar. More work but not difficult. Just time consuming. Yes but they will work with the stock infotainement but they may not sound as good, given that the stock head unit has lower output than aftermarket head units. But the sensitivity is high enough on these speakers that they should still outperform the originals given the same current. You can always install the speakers and use them for a couple weeks to get used to them/ they break-in, and THEN make a desicion as to IF you think the benefit of an upgraded headunit outways the cost.
Hey, awesome video. Just not clear on what the rear tweeters connect to. You mentioned that you need to run the wires for the rear tweeters through the spacers behind the speakers, understood that part. Once the wires for the rear tweeters are behind the speakers, what part of the speaker do they connect to? Sorry, new to this, so I don't quite follow your answers in the comments. buying the same speakers btw
Thanks! So the woofers have an additional pair of connectors specifically for the tweeters’ harness to plug into in cases (like in the rear doors) that there is no OEM connector to plug into. The tweeters have built in resistors to block out the low frequencies so they will only play the frequencies they are designed to (the resistors acting essentially like a crossover). Hope that helps!

in the back you add tweeter ?? the cross over is in the speaker? but in the front you replace tweeter does this mean the cas have cross over somewhere ?
That is possible. OR what I think= no actual crossover, but instead uses integral resistors at the tweeters (just like these Rockford Fosgate tweeters do) to keep the low frequencies from reaching the tweeter drivers. I am sure the Fender system has a similar layout but the amplifier correctly splits the signal among the speakers. But in this base audio system, I assume it is just integral resistors.
I have a 2015 jetta gli , I have fender speakers and my passenger side is rattling, if I order the original speaker will I need anything else? Or just the speaker
As long as you order the matching part number you should not need anything else. IF anything, have like 2 plastic door clips ready JUST IN CASE one of your originals break when you pull the door panel off. But that's about it
Yes but they may not sound as good, given that the stock head unit has lower output than aftermarket head units. But the sensitivity is high enough on these speakers that they should still outperform the originals given the same current
Would you say it's a very big difference in sound? I have a 2012, non-Fender version so no tweeters (which is fine). But the sound is already pretty good for it being stock, however lately I have noticed that my front passenger-side speaker starts to bottom out/"rattle" when I turn the sound up (resulting in more lackluster bass than what I remember several months ago). Are these speakers an improvement in the bass as well from the stock woofers?
Yes, absolutely it has been a great improvement. I too had dead woofers (I think the front driver was blown and one of the rears was just not putting out any sound, if I remember correctly). My setup with these speakers, the foam rings, sound deadening, and the Boss head unit to power them- night and day difference compared to the muffled original system. Just clean sound any any volume.

So, WITH the Boss headunit I have, they sound night and day better than the stock base speakers. Much clearer and all volumes. Nothing big would be needed really- a 40w x 4 RMS amp would be enough (since that’s the RMS rating of these speakers anyway). But it also depends on what you want out of them. If you want the BEST soundQ then you’d want to consider Focal, Infinity Kappas or Memphis Audio and such with a good amp and signal processor. But I think that for the money these speakers cost, you can’t beat their soundQ. Excellent value!
