I bought my jetta from 2011 five years ago, has now 150.000 km on counter and I since now I never had any problems with it, no extra costs or things to repair. It still drives like the day I bought it. That car is just from outstanding quality and I never regretted buying it. Probably My next car will be a Jetta as well cause of the good experience with the one I own right now
Too funny. I've replaced every single one of these problems on my 2013 2.0, except for the windshield wiper motor (147k miles). Which now that I say that is bound to go out. Good video.
I own a 2013 VW Jetta with the 5 cylinder 2.5 engine. I live in a very hot and sunny place, one of the biggest problems in general with every VW I ever owned is that the headliner glue gets bad and the whole headliner hangs from the ceiling. This happens around 6-7 years from exposure to hot weather and sun. The headliner for this car (specially if you have a sunroof) is really expensive!
I daily a 2014 Jetta with the 1.8T brand new from the lot, barely gonna hit 70,000 on it. It's so simple to work on doing regular maintenance. Only had to replace the light bulbs but I did a led bulbs swap while I was at it.
2014 Jetta SE 1.8t 147000. Been good overall. Replaced the sparks, coils, rear brake pads, right cv axle seal, and vvt electromagnet at 101000 at 120000 replacement of front pads. At 147000 replaced timeing chain cover seal.
I own a 2012 2.5SE + convenience package version. Most lightbulb brands are overpriced, horrendous, and last maybe 12-18 months at most. I highly recommend the NAPA H7 bulb. CHEAP and excellent. Have had in for 4+ years and no burnouts yet + brighter then any other brand prior used. -Side note, the daily running lamp bulb is a true PITA to replace if it goes out. You have to remove the entire fender on each side to get to. Bulb $20, labor $200..... And not easy to do. I have avoided for a while and once they both go out, plan to replace with LED's. As for the wiper motor, yes quite common. Replaced mine and no issues since. DIY for $200(parts) and some time or $750 at a dealership. Have not had the other issues as you mentioned, but a different version of car may be why. Have not replaced any belts yet at 125k miles. Use belt grease and maintain very well. Maybe I should look into replacing this.......? IF you come upon the P0106 code, it is due to particles getting into your valve through the air filter and a dirty MAP sensor. You'll notice the wrench come on dash, and car run rough during the time the wrench is on. It is intermittent and a PITA to diagnose. -I had to go back and forth with VW many times until they did my "TH-cam" fix, which was the right answer. Clean where the filter air enters the engine and replace the MAP sensor. Sensor was in a bad spot that allowed oil to get on it. VW refused to do until after 4 diagnoses and their books to correct. Thankfully I documented this and avoided all costs except 1 diagnosis charge. I put an AEM cold air intake in at 40k and have not had an issue since.
Thank you very much for your tip, I have a Jetta 2011 2.5L, I replaced the map sensor two times and the code never gone (only for a few days), I wil try your tips.
I just got rid of my 2016 Jetta 1.8t sel for a 2020 Jetta GLI Autobahn and let me tell you I’m so happy I got it. My old Jetta 1.8t I had to do transmission fluid change, oil change every month, filters, battery replacement, ac compressor replaced, coolant leak, burns oil like crazy. Sometimes engine will click before turning over. Had gotten new tires, brakes, wipers. And let me tell you it was not worth the money. Just get rid of it or trade it in as is with no issues displayed or noticeable and they’ll take it at carmax or anywhere. Had almost 100k miles and got almost 12k for mine with a door dent. Whoop whoop
I have a 2011 Jetta that has almost 170,000 miles on it. And it's been running good. And I usually lag on the oil changes etc.. Some years are better than others. I keep my fingers crossed though it's getting up there in mileage and age. The actuator for the gas door has been acting up and few other issues. But over all a reliable car.
I own a 2014 2.0 Jetta S and the only major problem i’ve ever had was a misfire in cylinder 3, i just needed a new set of wires. Everything else has been fine, i change the spark plugs and oil regularly. I also cleaned my throttle body, put a new fuel filter and new fuel injectors. Also got a tuner chip, K&N filter and the car runs strong n smooth.
2014 vw jetta pushing 333000km 2.0L headlights are like playing twister lol great car. I’ve replaced the plugs and coil. Rear brakes and fixed the exhaust. Drives like a tank in the snow.

I have 230000 km on my Jetta 2011 2.0 gas it drives well and I got none of these issues mentioned. The only problem that I have is a leak in the catalic converter or somewhere around there affect the gas mileage it also threw a check engine light but otherwise great car

I"m a little late but worth mention is also the radiator as I am on my 3rd (original plus 2 replacements) and also the oil pan which rusts out. Been driving VW since 1986 and this model year 2013 Jetta (MK6) ranks up there with the 1999 model year which i also owned. .......Well gotta go and figure out why fog lamps dont come on and the headlight switch red ligthing does not show along with the door window lights not working.............Hmmmm
Hi I was trying to see if you know what would cause a loud humming while accelerating in 5th gear and stops when you take you foot off the gas. I have a 2012 VW Jetta 2.0l Manuel. Thanks
I have a 2012 Jetta 2.5 SEL and my washer pump stopped working but my window wipers still work , any suggestions? Also my right headlight bulb went out but about 2 weeks later it started backing working again . It’s been working now for almost a month. Any suggestions?
Why my Jetta once in a while when I stopped on red light it won’t back on again and totally stopped the engine. At first when I turn on the engine wrench and service word shows on the dash. What do you think. Thank you
2014 Jetta SE had the water pump replaced, camshaft sensor, coil packs were stuck and took hrs to remove, stereo would freeze during the summer, days were temp is over 100 degrees causes EPC light to turn on. 😭

We had a 2012 Jetta SEL Premium 2.5. The transmission failed at 62k miles. One owner until we towed it in to trade it. Adult owned too. Maybe we just got a bad one.
Same car and package , 2012 with 63500 miles. Just the other day I started noticing small drops of fluid where I parked. It’s not oil I’m hoping it’s not transmission fluid. Is that how your tranny failed?
that's weird. The 09G transmission is manufactured by Aisin (Toyota) and although the first years (05-07) failed way more regularly, the 08+ models improved big time. I had an 08 which I bought with 120K miles, I sold it to my dad 20K miles later and then he put some additional 40K before trading it in for a 2014 Escape. I have a question, my 2015 Jetta just threw a active grille shutter code. It is saying it's stuck open. My question is what to do to troubleshoot it? I've tried to locate the fuse, but with no luck. Also can't find anything on how to, find the sensor, or replace. Can someone help??
I have 2014 1.4 TSI, runs well, I got 245,000km on the clock, had to replace entire clutch kit twice so far, every 120,000km or so. Other than that the car is still 100% mechanically sound, no oil leak or warning light, I service it religiously with the dealership. I mostly drive long distances
I just replaced my battery, oil change, spark plugs, my car shuts off while I’m parked or at stop light. But no check engine. Some say fuel pump ? Could it be
I hate this car. There's always something wrong with it ' 14 SE used. I read such great reviews from owners and thought it was a safe choice. Sorry to vent, so frustrated and disappointed.
my freaking Jetta eats those H7 lightbulbs... i swear i keep sylvania in business. The other problem i have is the window washer pump. the module that controlls it has failed and apparently that thing costs a fortune
I cannot for the LIFE of me get the passenger side running light out. Left one was easy. Right one, kind of turns, but it feels like it was put in crooked. I have cut and scraped my hand bloody wrestling with it in that Agony Box (Dune reference). Do I have to remove the whole headlight to get to it? Anyone have any suggestions?
If its a 1.8TSI it probably has a failing intake cam phaser. They rattle on startup as they start going bad, but always check the oil level as those engine tend to consume lots of oil about 100k miles. Low oil level will absoluelty cause startup noises in them.
my recently purchased jetta feels like it guzzles down gas I will only go 10 miles and the gas gauge is already down a notch and half and when I fill up it will only get 345 miles on a full tank. I can't find anything anywhere about this problem and the dealership just gas lights me telling me it's my driving

2013 Jetta 2.5. 115k miles. Costs about $1000 a year or more to maintain. Some cheap plastic part will broken at least once a year. Nice interior and features for price. Don’t recommend unless you’re broke like I was when I bought it. Better than driving a Carola, but it’ll cost you
water pumps with plastic impellers are more common than you think. I owned two cars with them, and they were always replaced as part of a timing belt job; not because they let go; 75K and 145K miles respectively. When I received the old pumps back I noticed the plastic impeller. It wasn't flimsy plastic. It was one solid piece of high density material
Tell Scotty I have 200,000km on my Jetta and this is this first issue which happens to be just a bad set off plug wires no rust because of my 12 year unlimited km corrosion warranty and all drive train and suspension components are intact with zero rust also whole exhaust system is still mint how about that rust bucket Toyota?
I’ve been driving a 2014 Jetta for 7 years with no issues other that replacing lightbulbs. One daytime light burned two years ago and I haven’t got to replace it. You actually have to remove the whole bumper to get it done.
the ones with the 5 speed manual are the most solid. And if you get a 2.0 8v engine it will be slow but it's the most solid powertrain you'll ever find in this generation, followed closely by the 2.5.
I HAVE THE BULB ISSUE THE REGULATOR AND THE COIL PACK BUT OTHER THAN THAT NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE PUMP I HAVE 143000 THE QUALITY HAS GONE DOWN CHEAP PLASTIC INTERIOR IT'S A 2015
There's a very serious problem in this country on Volkswagen and Honda and foreign cars they no longer have the parts people all over America have been waiting over a year to get parts for their car that is just sitting in the garage that they can't drive or use because no one is able to get parts for the car anymore this has been going on for a couple years now it's getting a little attention very little news on it !!!!! If you're thinking about buying a car you should do some research on the internet on how hard it is to get parts for that car listen to me carefully do not trust the dealer. My advice is to look at American cars where the parts are made in America. I had to fine out the hard way. My 6 year old Volkswagen Jetta I had to send to the junkyard because parts were not available !!!! Following this I did research to find out all of the above !!!
12 Jetta 2.5l 5 speed 90,000. The ignition switch (the lock and tumbler inside the steering column. Where the key goes) is a POS. I've had multiple problems (3). Costing almost $2Gs. Oh and AC control valve has went out twice. All in under 2 years. I fucking hate this car.
2014 Jetta s my mechanic can’t figure out why my gas gauge is always messing up. The bars won’t show up. I put half a tank in the number of miles left to fill up changes all the time. And low fuel tank will pop up on 60 miles or it’ll drop down to no gas Jettas suck
Replace the water pump when you replace the timing belt WHAT WTF what a ripoff, and why is it a PLASTIC impeller that breaks down over time instead of *metal*
Putting that headlight bulb back in makes u want to sell the whole car.
Yes!!
I have small hands so that's my job lol

I have cut and scraped my hand bloody wrestling with it in that Agony Box (Dune reference). Do I have to remove the whole headlight to get to it? Anyone have any suggestions?
i have a loud rattling noise only when i start the car and disappears when the engine is warm. Any idea what is causing it?
i have the same problem.
Try changing your spark plugs, if you haven't already.
I have same problem, in particular when it's sunny day in the morning, I replaced timing chain but still rattles when I make a cold start.
If its a 1.8TSI it probably has a failing intake cam phaser. They rattle on startup as they start going bad, but always check the oil level as those engine tend to consume lots of oil about 100k miles. Low oil level will absoluelty cause startup noises in them.
I have the same problem change your spark plugs
anyone knows where the temp sensors are supposed to be 2 only found 1 and that’s the bottom radiator hose.
my recently purchased jetta feels like it guzzles down gas I will only go 10 miles and the gas gauge is already down a notch and half and when I fill up it will only get 345 miles on a full tank. I can't find anything anywhere about this problem and the dealership just gas lights me telling me it's my driving
+Yelsew We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I have a Jetta that shakes the idle goes up and down any ideas ?
Probably a sensor. Any codes?
U gotta Change things on the engine like air filter, oil change. Clean the engine. Change belts. Inter cooler.
My Jetta 2017 fuel tank Cap is stuck.
What's the easy fix?
I was angry with my window problem. I would click up and the window would go down. So frustrating
My vw Jetta 2011 hazards light won’t cut off draining battery ???
2015 Vw Jetta 2.0 base 19500 and still going.
I love mine ive got several and zero issues
2013 Jetta 2.5. 115k miles.
Costs about $1000 a year or more to maintain. Some cheap plastic part will broken at least once a year.
Nice interior and features for price.
Don’t recommend unless you’re broke like I was when I bought it. Better than driving a Carola, but it’ll cost you
Camshaft position sensor also.
1.6 TDI is the worst one you can buy. Definitely not built with longevity in mind. A year doesn't go by with a major issue
I agree with you
got jetta tdi 2011 always problems !!! the mk 4 and mk 5 was better more simple reliable !!!! the engine 2.5 are good ......living in western canada
Not so much the headlight bulbs. The common problem is the driving lights. Not an easy task
This makes me feel better about my 2011 jetta lol
I’d say if you’re a hard driver replace timing belt and water pump at 75k for service.
I wish mine had a V8 engine... Other than that, a fine vehicle. (5 speed manual, 2.5 engine)
The water pump has a PLASTIC IMPELLER ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME VOLKSWAGEN?!
Wtf
The plastic impeller lasts longer than either the shaft seal or the housing seal, no problems here.
water pumps with plastic impellers are more common than you think.
I owned two cars with them, and they were always replaced as part of a timing belt job; not because they let go; 75K and 145K miles respectively.
When I received the old pumps back I noticed the plastic impeller. It wasn't flimsy plastic. It was one solid piece of high density material
Gbox no problems?
Scotty says buy a Toyota unless you want a money pit
He is right tho
Specifically a 94 Celica
Tell Scotty I have 200,000km on my Jetta and this is this first issue which happens to be just a bad set off plug wires no rust because of my 12 year unlimited km corrosion warranty and all drive train and suspension components are intact with zero rust also whole exhaust system is still mint how about that rust bucket Toyota?
Honda*^
I see a lot of older Volkswagen on the road and Honda's
I though this cars were horrible, hmmm pretty simple fixes
I’ve been driving a 2014 Jetta for 7 years with no issues other that replacing lightbulbs.
One daytime light burned two years ago and I haven’t got to replace it. You actually have to remove the whole bumper to get it done.
the ones with the 5 speed manual are the most solid. And if you get a 2.0 8v engine it will be slow but it's the most solid powertrain you'll ever find in this generation, followed closely by the 2.5.
My 2016 outlander sport Mitsubishi has 350,000 miles on it
“Take these nuts off” 😢😮 3:30
Every thing, I'm going through.
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM EXCEPT THE CONTROL ARM OR PUMP YET. I GOT 127000 MILES ON MINE
Anyone else getting EPC issues? Definitely had the $1200 water pump before too
I just fixed the coil pack and my engine light wont go off i fixed everything
1.8 TSI ENGINE FAILURE ...
Basically everything they listed is normal wear items
Anyone had one of these past 150?
Mechatronic/tcu enough said
VW, even using 80s tech still, still using cheap stuff. This car should last 250k miles without problems. Any Corolla will do that
Engine 2.slow from late 90s early 2000s ****
2014 Jetta s my mechanic can’t figure out why my gas gauge is always messing up. The bars won’t show up. I put half a tank in the number of miles left to fill up changes all the time. And low fuel tank will pop up on 60 miles or it’ll drop down to no gas Jettas suck
Replace the water pump when you replace the timing belt WHAT WTF what a ripoff, and why is it a PLASTIC impeller that breaks down over time instead of *metal*
