in my fanfics that are pre-g1 I do write it like this. Cybertron had a beautiful ecosystem, forests, animals - all metallic in nature and the war destroyed them. with the forests gone, Cybertron was unable to keep powered and quickly died.
@@j.l.thurman2725 That's definitely completely incongruous with the G1 continuity. Cybertron had organic life, but that was seemingly before The Transformers even arrived on the planet
Despite the bittersweet ending, if there were a moment that happened after the episode, I'm sure Optimus would tell a mourning Beachcomber that they'll do wat they can to restore the nearly destroyed forest. Plant new trees, refurbish the land and watever else. For the Electrum, it's hard to say if any more would even come back in a new lagoon, unless it's from a source outside of Earth. Either way, if this all were to happen, the forest restored and the animals returning, it's likely Optimus would make sure this area of paradise would remain hidden from everyone for the animals to live in peace, and to sugarcoat it more, because why not, a new source of Electrum would start to develop where the original, and now bigger, lagoon was.
Easily a top 5 episode of the series. Beyond the messaging, I freaking love when Omega Supreme gets involved both times. Once his confidence does nothing and he gets his ass handed to him. Then when he comes out of the pond and annihilates everyone, that's epic.
Loved the ending for this episode with Beachcomber as it was very bittersweet, the Autobots won the battle but at a heavy price, it really sent a powerful message that no matter how many times victories, there will always be casualties.
Yeah, but at the same time; if you aren't willing to fight to protect what you hold dear or trust your friends with hearing you out about your concerns for those things, those casualties are more likely to happen than not.
Except, that doesn't seem to be the point of the episode. The episode seems to say that war is blind, and frequently it isn't soldiers who suffer terrible pain. No Autobot except Beachcomber even acknowledged the damage to the ecosystem. They just cheered, packed up and went home. Prime is a bit cold in this episode, in that sense.
@@Raleth I'm sure the Autobots shares the same sentiment deep within their Sparks, just as Beachcomber's. It just happens that it's Beachcomber's moment.

For the second, now I know Quintesson can literally predict almost all transformers' behavior, yet Optimus Prime becomes the one they expect the least. So, Optimus is truly the living proof of how Transformers become free from their creators.

The slow and beautiful music when beachcomber first discovers the lagoon is EPIC. I wish there was a G1 Transformers soundtrack that had a full version of that. ❤
I know everyone is taking away the "price of war" message, but I honestly feel like there's a deeper meaning that really requires you to put yourself in Beachcomber's place. He was the one who wanted to protect the glen, but he failed. In that regard, I feel that Beachcomber blamed himself more than he did anyone else. He was probably speculating what he could have done differently to have better protected the glen. Now, let's be honest; there was nothing Beachcomber could have done to prevent Thrust from discovering the lagoon; it just plain happened too fast for him to react. Still, things might have gone differently had he not tried to keep it a secret from his fellow Autobots. On the one hand, he did what he thought was right at the time, worrying that the Autobots would want to use the Electrum for the war effort. On the other hand, this shows that he didn't have good faith in his friends and comrades. In the end, he directed them to the lagoon anyway; knowing that they'd all be destroyed without the Electrum. Ultimately, I feel it was a mistake for Beachcomber to try to protect the glen by himself. Protecting the environment simply isn't something that one person can do alone; it takes multiple people, and I mean, come on! Optimus is understanding; he would have heard him out. It wouldn't have guaranteed the survival of the glen, but it might have given it a chance. The Autobots might have been able to get there before the Decepticons had a chance to coat themselves in the Electrum and make a stand to protect the place. Don't get me wrong; Beachcomber obviously felt that it wasn't fair that the glen suffered because of their conflict, and frankly he's right. Still, I can't help but feel he felt some personal guilt for being unable to keep the place safe.
I love how this episode ends, no “all the animals got out safe”, no “we can restore this place”, no “look on the bright side…”, just “we won” and a shot of the destroyed environment.
I'm sure it's not only Beachcomber who felt sad, the others may too, just because they didn't show it directly doesn't mean they don't care, they are glad that further damage could be avoided though the price is heavy. besides the Autobots are those family who willing to lend their shoulder and ear, by that alone is enough to tell an extra story if Beachcomber want to do save the forest, he can call upon the Autobots to help him
Honestly, it's under that same virtue that I believe Beachcomber was feeling guilt for being unable to protect the glen. His words weren't "We won... but at what cost?" like everyone is interpreting; he simply said "We won...". I believe he was trying to comfort himself with those words while pondering what he could have done differently to better prevent the glen being harmed. Idk, if he thought about this or not; but what you said about the Autobots is true, particularly of Optimus Prime. People hear act like the Autobots didn't care, but the only reason they seem that way is because Beachcomber didn't speak up. By keeping the glen secret from his fellow Autobots; he showed that he didn't trust that they would care about the glen as much as he did, not even kindhearted Optimus. Beachcomber's heart was in the right place. Even if their first reaction to the knowledge that there's a resource they could use was "Let's go get it!", Beachcomber could have followed up with his concerns for the wildlife; Optimus would have no doubt been moved to agreed. Beachcomber kept the glen a secret because of his pacifist nature. He wanted to protect it, believing his comrades would use the Electrum without regard to the glen; but protecting the environment just plain isn't something one person alone can do. Most people here are taking away only the "tragedy of war" message. While it's true that a side CAN lose sight of what they're trying to protect and end up destroying it; but if they don't stand up to fight to protect it at all, it WILL be destroyed. This is showcased by how the Decepticons got there before most of the Autobots, because Beachcomber said nothing until it was too late for the glen.
At 11:25, how could Sunstreaker have positively identified Starscream? He, Skywarp, and Thundercracker only differ in color normally, and now all of them are gold from head to toe. For that matter, is it just me, or does *nobody* notice that the Decepticons are all yellow? I'd think that would be something a character would mention ...
This is one of the highlights of the show; along with other episodes of this specific time in the second season, this story crafts a heart touching environmental message that has influenced me at a very young age. Thank you and cheers from Israel 🇮🇱
Good episode but they should've worked Devastator into this. Then there could be a huge fight between him and Omega Supreme. The one in "The Secret of Omega Supreme" wasn't all that great.
14:27 that's where bay got the idea to have lockdown his face turned to a turret, in the age of extinction...... Well, by the way, Omega Supreme had to turn his head 180 degrees for that?!
At least, in the much later movie (aired post-season 2), the Decepticons are, finally, shown to be not as bad as they were initially thought to be (when Unicron transforms to terrifying giant robot mode, which even terrifies Galvatron, especially after Unicron says about ‘Cybertron’s dismemberment’). I’d have loved seeing Galvatron being the one who rescued Spike (who was now an adult), and Bumblebee and Jazz & Cliffjumper, from getting dropped into Unicron’s acid vat, by transforming to laser cannon mode and blasting the acid vat cover (especially when Hot Rod and Galvatron were going to be allies against Unicron). This could have (I mean in a good way) led Galvatron to feel upset about all the things he did (as his old self - Megatron) to the Autobots, like the ending to this episode (and other season 2, pre-movie, episodes, like ‘Kremzeek’).
I heard Seaspray's voice and thought "That's Alan Oppenheimer doing his Mer-Man from He-Man" - checked the credits and there he is! Awesome! I never realised he worked on Transformers!
The only actor of the Filmation MOTU voice cast to work on Transformers (shame none of the voice cast, from Arthur Rankin & Jules Bass’ show ThunderCats, worked on Transformers, when I like associating Teela and Cheetara, who are even now my *only* favourite He-Man and ThunderCats characters, with the Sunbow G1 Transformers cartoon, especially with the 1986 animated Transformers movie).
Ventured into the comments to find a kindred spirit. Everyone is talking about beachcomber while I'm crying watching all the decepticons blasting each other and their surroundings like they are having a pillow fight.
@@videogollumer Indeed, TFWiki even states that Electrum is a real world alloy made of gold and silver, besides the Transformers are living metal, it wouldn't last long on them if they wore it. It always confounds me as to how Electrum was treated as a liquid metal rather than a solid metal, I'm not joking, who in their right mind would treat Electrum as such? But still, the episode has kept up with how Beachcomber's hand had stayed pale gold until the end, it's a neat little detail that stayed consistent throughout the episode. Still Transformers was one of many 80s cartoons that had episodes with life lessons, TUGS was one of these shows in the UK for example, it's fifth episode had two versions as it is appropriately titled "Munitions", but both were of common sense and the dangers of fire, as well as instance of character death that happened in the original version whereas it didn't happen with a certain character in the broadcast version, however, I still had a theory about both versions of the episode, in which a ship full of explosive ammunition had people still onboard, even if they weren't seen, their deaths would still happen. I think fans of the TUGS fandom/community would get what I'm talking about, still, this episode is about the values of the environment and the horrors of war that would leave you with PTSD, which is common with war veterans, traumatic experiences that would leave you scarred for the rest of your life. I remember last month on the day of Thanksgiving, a program about the people who served in the military, and it was on television, the whole thing was about the history and what they experienced, after all the cartoon and the comics were based on the cold war, after all.
Throughout the decades since this was first shown, Megatron's phrase has stuck with me... well, almost. He says, "If we can't have it, nobody can!" - I long misremembered it as "If *I* can't have it... " Either way, it's the sociopathic politician way of doing things that has caused this phrase to echo through my mind, waiting for the next tin-pot dictator who's willing to destroy his people and his country (and maybe the whole world) if he can't hold onto power, or big business leaders who're willing to throw everything away that's decent in the world, just for a few more bucks. Thus, either way... none of us, I think, will have won.
Technically speaking when the electrum on the Decepticons wore off, Thrust should've been the first to lose it since he was the first character to get covered in it (not counting Beachcomber because only his hand got covered).
Beachcomber: _Watches his companions fight an electrum-coated Thrust and runs off_ Beachcomber (10 minutes later): "No, it's not possible! They found the golden lagoon!"
15:27 to 16:09 The music here gives us this feeling that some serious sh!t is gonna get real and both sides are preparing for the inevitable clash. There's a military escalation going on, and the music really sells that idea.
Megatron-"SHOW NO MERCY!"
Starscream-"Did we ever?"

Beachcomber: "Oh my bum-bum-da-doo-boo it's paradise."
Special ability of Sunstreaker?
Screamer stood out even in ekectrum
The voice
Perhaps their engines sound different, Like when you recognize your cars motor
@@edsaloru1 They might not even see the colors. See something else.
From that moment on, Beachcomber became one of my favorites.
Cool to see at 19:13 the five 2007 movie autobots standing together
This is one of the highlights of the show; along with other episodes of this specific time in the second season, this story crafts a heart touching environmental message that has influenced me at a very young age.
Thank you and cheers from Israel 🇮🇱
9:10 Mirage was here since the beginning of the episode.
😂
I never thought the parakeet at 2:34 would get an official toy, but here we are!
This is precisely what I thought when I saw that!
Good episode but they should've worked Devastator into this. Then there could be a huge fight between him and Omega Supreme. The one in "The Secret of Omega Supreme" wasn't all that great.
I like Omega's confidence: "Failure impossible".
21:56 yes...but the victory held a heavy price tag.
19:43 StarScream knew out that the autobots lefted! I like how StarScream became so Frustrated about the Dummies 😅
This was the saddest episode of the Transformers. 😢😢😢
The worst part was that a spot of beauty was ruined.
@@EVH9208Mostly Because of the Desepticons likes to Hog the Lagoon and Blast Each other Willy Nilly.
Poor Beachcomber, he is so sad about the Destruction of this wonderful Glen! Poor Animals!
I would like to think that the Autobots came back and reforest that place.
12:46 The deceptions were all laughing at them😅😅😅 It still makes me laugh 30 years later when I was a kid watching this😂😂😂
14:27 that's where bay got the idea to have lockdown his face turned to a turret, in the age of extinction...... Well, by the way, Omega Supreme had to turn his head 180 degrees for that?!
The power of that P38 versus Omega Supreme! Always a treat, whenever my boy Megs would transform into that gun!
“Results disappointing”
Omega Supreme is so funny
Starscream: "Personally, I need proof."
Megatron: "Personally, I don't care what you need!"
Just such a great exchange.
This episode in a nutshell: damn the fighting, take a break and everybody dive hard in the pool!
The little things you don't pay attention to as a child, Starscream plugging his nose before diving into the energy lake.
that moment where beachcomber was just chilling around the animals was so nice, love it
At least, in the much later movie (aired post-season 2), the Decepticons are, finally, shown to be not as bad as they were initially thought to be (when Unicron transforms to terrifying giant robot mode, which even terrifies Galvatron, especially after Unicron says about ‘Cybertron’s dismemberment’).
6:49
Starscream: Personally i need Proof!
Meanwhile Thrust Standing there like : Am i a Joke to you?!
xDDD
What he meant was that he wanted to shoot thrust and check it out himself and megatron said no lol
The distruction of the forest because of their fighting....
21:54 Beachcomber: We Won (Mind: but at what Cost) (Beachcomber look at the Destroyed Valley)
Thought provoking ending.
Should have been the slow More Than Meets the Eye music, tho.
One of my first transformer toys was the G2 chrome green Beachcomber, so the little geologist holds a special place in my heart.
One of my favorite g1 episodes. Love the music during the last battle
This is probably one of my favorite episodes. I'll always remember it when I think about this series.
8:02 this scene made me die of laughter lol
they were all just shooting each other 😂
A rave party XD!
They've Gone Mad with the Laser Party.
They are very playful !
Ventured into the comments to find a kindred spirit. Everyone is talking about beachcomber while I'm crying watching all the decepticons blasting each other and their surroundings like they are having a pillow fight.
Loved how the lagoon was big enough to fit omega supreme, but when it was destroyed, it was barely the size of a swimming pool.
Someday someone will find a way to make Golden Lagoon Omega Supreme work.
Yeah the Golden Omega Supreme Would be Cool.
@@there4you19 Yeah, cool with a golden price tag.
@@Vipermecha Yeah But Still Adding the Electrum on Omega Supreme is Smart.
...or Golden Lagoon Metroplex.
Or Golden Lagoon Fortress Maxximus
This show is a masterpiece
Anybody else wondering how if the electrum made them invulnerable to being blasted, did they manage to destroy the pool by blasting it?
It wasn't bonded to their living metal when Megatron blasted it.
@@michaelclickard6264 It might have been kept in a liquid state by geothermal heat.
@@videogollumer Well, as long as there's some sort of explanation...I won't question it.
Throughout the decades since this was first shown, Megatron's phrase has stuck with me... well, almost. He says, "If we can't have it, nobody can!" - I long misremembered it as "If *I* can't have it... "
Either way, it's the sociopathic politician way of doing things that has caused this phrase to echo through my mind, waiting for the next tin-pot dictator who's willing to destroy his people and his country (and maybe the whole world) if he can't hold onto power, or big business leaders who're willing to throw everything away that's decent in the world, just for a few more bucks. Thus, either way... none of us, I think, will have won.
He also said that once again as galvatron during the episode Burden Hardest to bear
Omega coming out of the lagoon was awesome!!
The Real Victory is to not let the War to happen
Technically speaking when the electrum on the Decepticons wore off, Thrust should've been the first to lose it since he was the first character to get covered in it (not counting Beachcomber because only his hand got covered).
Beachcomber: _Watches his companions fight an electrum-coated Thrust and runs off_
Beachcomber (10 minutes later): "No, it's not possible! They found the golden lagoon!"
Who needs Francisco Scaramanga when Megatron can be and is the Golden Gun himself
lol nice one
Lol. I think you guys all missed it. Starscream was holding his nose when taking the plunge.
But he swam, talked, and even fired his guns underwater go figure
Think the cons been around humans too long
One of my all time favourite episodes!
Im convinced Allen ophhenheimet was high when he played warpath, beachcomber and seaspray
😂
Every transformer has a unique personality and it shows here. I love it, lol.
So funny Starscream has to hold his nose fearing of being drowned😂
9:31 Soundwave lost a lot of weight! Wonder what his secret is?
15:27 to 16:09 The music here gives us this feeling that some serious sh!t is gonna get real and both sides are preparing for the inevitable clash. There's a military escalation going on, and the music really sells that idea.
Funniest part of this episode? Omega Supreme comes bursting out of the lagoon, but after the Decepticons blow it up, it was only like 10ft deep lol.
omg. the biggest transformers scale error in history.
This episode is the reason why I like beachcomber
10:27 "See you around"
*Turns Invisible* "Oh no you won't!" 💀
21:40 megatron's arms...have gotten so long, he is now longatron
