    Thanks for watching! Have a great day! :)

    Fun fact: The effects of this movie and "Forever" were done by John Dykstra, who worked on the original Star Wars. And to be completely honest, most of these effects, especially the miniatures, still look fine to me.

    • @AWSVids
      @AWSVids 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The technical aspects of the movie were definitely very impressive for its day. It's easy to sluff them off for being cheesy, but that was completely intentional, and as cheesy looking movies go... this is like the most expensive, high production value version of campy theatrical cheesiness ever done. From the lavish sets, to the costumes (particularly Freeze's), to all the ice effects, a LOT of CGI for a 90s movie... there's probably more visual effects shots in this movie than in Titanic. It's kinda amazing how much effects work went into so much cheese. It's like Jar Jar Binks: The Movie.

    • @nathanfitzgerald6651
      @nathanfitzgerald6651 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Dykstra also did the wondrous, psychedelic special effects for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. And for 1979, it's still Star Trek's best visual effects even to this day! Dykstra's Star Trek FX have aged like a fine wine.

    This was sooooo much fun to watch! 20:17 I know this moment on a drinking night too well. You can literally see when the alcohol hits you full force. Where everything just goes bwahhhh around you and you're officially drunk. I loved that feeling. Once you started talking again and you can hear it in your speech... that was hilarious. Good for you, brother.

    Also this version is in some ways more accurate then the Christopher Nolan one. In the comics Bane WAS born in a prison. And he was a genius as well. He dons a nacho libre mask for when he killed and took over the craziest and biggest bad in the prison. With experimentation he was given the "poison" which made him super strength. But it didn't stop his intelligence like it does in this movie. In this movie is comic fans hate bane because he's just a dumb brute. "Araahghh grrrr braghhhh!!!!" When he's supposed have that strength with pure genius. A madman. And the man that "broke the bat". He is also supposed to be Mexican.

    The thing is, I think that this movie had a lot of the elements to be one of the greatest Batman films ever, maybe THE greatest. It had a great cast, great villains, hints of deeper themes, and the only proper Bat Family in any major Batman film... If only they had toned down the camp a bit. But they didn't, and all anyone remembers is the puns and the nipples.

    I actually enjoyed this movie as a kid and even today, it still brings a smile to my face. Yes, it's ridiculously campy, but deep underneath the temperature puns and flashing lights, there's a story about trusting your friends and family. Also, you can actually thank this movie for how it changed the superhero genre. If Schumacher didn't go full camp, we'd still be getting mediocre superhero movies instead of blockbusters like The Dark Knight, Avengers and such.

    And if you want to see the Mister Freeze story played out in the serious, tragic tone, look back to Batman The Animated Series.
    The animated series from the 90s appeared with the release of Batman Returns and was heavily influenced by the style and artful tone of the Tim Burton films.
    Mister Freeze appeared in that animated series long before this movie came out and was handled so much better.
    He really is a tragic character.

    "Why did Val Kilmer not come back for this Batman movie?"For a number of reasons:
    1.He was going through a bad divorce at the time.
    2. He is notoriously uncooperative and a know-it-all primadonna on set.Nice dude,though. My mom and I met him at my college once when he had throat cancer and still had his voice.
    3.He has a multitude of health problems, unrealistic religious beliefs and an inflated ego that stop him from getting proper care for them.

    Ollie, I hate to tell you this, but Bane in this movie is almost a direct transfer from the comics, costume wise. The one from Dark Knight Rises may be more realistic, but this one is based on the comics.
    Also, I paused the "full length" reaction, as you didn't fade in and out, so it made it hard to follow. I'll grab my DVD when I get home from shopping and follow along on my other monitor then.
    Also, also, you've fallen behind in your shot count, but don't even realize it. :p

    Actually, by 1997, CGI was very huge and very common. Anaconda, The Fifth Element, Men In Black, The, Lost World, Contact, Titanic, it goes on and on. CGI took off in the early mid 90's. The Abyss, Terminator 2, Death Becomes Her, Jurassic Park and Forrest Gump paved the way. By 96, we expected the big summer CGI FX driven films. In 96 Twister and Independence Day were huge. Just a little history lesson. Nice review.

    you get the Mr. Freeze story in Batman TAS Heart of Ice or if you only do movies, Sub Zero
    Bane is also in TAS and has a wrestler look in that too. In a way, Dark Night is the least Bane like Bane since he doesn't use the venom and he has that voice.
    this movie has a Batgirl origin not supported in any thing else. The Batman 66 and Batman TAS Batgirls are completely different.

    If you do watch the 1966 Batman film, I would strongly suggest watching some of the TV series first. At the very least, watch a Riddler episode, a Joker episode, a Penguin episode, and a Catwoman episode from Season 1.

    lol as bad as you think Bane looks the costume is not to far from being comic accurate. Yes the mask stays on, Bane is a Luchador that's basically on venom steroids lol. He's also very smart not a big dumb monster like he is in this lol.

    I’m unclear why you got vodka if you hate it. I think you said you were in a hurry, but did the store only sell vodkas?
    I must’ve missed something. Personally, I would’ve went with Southern Comfort, but that’s probably just me.

    This film gets heavily criticised and i don't know why, i love it. I'm 42, i intentionally watched it earlier before seeing this reaction. I only watched this for the first time 5 months ago, and regretted missing out on it for over 20 years. I love Arnie and Uma as the main villains, and much prefer this Bane to the later one. I also love they finally got a Batgirl (in the 60's series she was Commisioner Godon's niece). Some of the stuff involving Batman and Robin didn't interest me, but i love this film. If they had made a fifth film it is rumoured to have had Egghead as the villain (played in the 60's by Vincent Price), i would have loved to see a new Egghead.
    A shot for every pun. I think you needed a bigger bottle.

    I would imagine that Val Kilmer wanted to play Mr Freeze (he had already experience as Iceman), but was told some stupid Austrian would take his place, and so he gave everyone the finger and walked away from the project.
