I remember when this came out on home video, they put "Award-winning" on the box, lmao. Technically it was true because The Smashing Pumpkins won a Grammy for the song "The End is the Beginning of the End" featured in it but come on. No one was fooled thinking the movie won anything at all😂🤣

What people fail to realize is that this whole thing is based on a COMIC BOOK. It’s not meant to be taken seriously. That’s the whole point. Although I do prefer the Tim Burton versions (1 & 2). I mean, have you seen the old Batman TV series?? They actually had lettering appear on screen during the fight scenes that read “bang”, “boom”, etc. It was corny as heck but it was done on purpose. It was about bringing a comic book to life, but not forgetting that it’s a comic book. 😁
At 5:35 you say "this movie seems like parody". It actually was, sort of, but production problems interfered. Schumacher wanted to make the film darker, but campy to keep the PG rating, but the studio kept pushing for changes to make the toys more marketable. Most of the dark bits were lost. Worse, most of the Batgirl scenes were cut after the press blasted her for gaining weight. Again, Schumacher defended her and fought back against the press, but the studio didn't want the attention.
I think I remember seeing the director himself apologizing for the movie. He knew it was bad, but I think i read somewhere that WB made him change the scripts based on the toys that needed to be sold with the movie. LOL
They learned nothing from Star Wars. It did the same thing with marketing, but just like with Batman, it gained success and got its big break and so we're letting just about anyone use its franchise. Star Wars/Batman were so hot, how could anyone ruin it? Then we got the Star Wars Holiday Special and later on, this movie. Oddly enough both blunders became cult classics in their own right

The "auction for a date" thing isn't really done anymore, but from my understanding it used to be a thing. The actual money would usually go to charity or some other kind of donation, the "auctions" were like a fundraising thing. It wasn't usually taken super seriously but as a girl the idea always kinda freaked me out lol

This is the reason that the characters in Kill Bill (The Bride and her list of targets) matchup with the descriptions of the characters in the "Fox Force Five" pilot that Uma Thurman's character mentions in Pulp Fiction -- Kill Bill is meant to be the 'gritty reboot' of the tv show, which is why both roles star Uma Thurman. Now imagine that you lived in a world in which the dark, gritty, brooding, Keaton Batman actually existed -- what do you think Hollywood would do with that? They would not only make a movie out of him, but they would go over the top in glamorizing and merchandizing the hell out of it -- so the movie would be filled with Bright Neon Colors, Dozens of Toy Tie-Ins and Product Placements, Bad Puns/Cheesy One-Liners, and would star Beautiful Hollywood A-Listers (plus they would try to get away with recasting Batman without anyone knowing or caring with 'the next big thing' each time). Hence the two Schumacher Batman movies are movies that you would end up going to see in a theater if you lived in the Tim Burton Batman movies' universe.

Bob Kane, the creator of the Batman comics, died in 1998. This was the last adaptation of Batman that he saw. It is kind of sad. Warner Bros wanted the film to be more "family friendly" and the director and producer were told to make it less depressing. Warner Bros wanted to sell Batman action figures and included Robin's car and Batgirl"s motorcycle in the movie as product placement for the toy accessories. The part of the mask that Batgirl takes off, after riding her motorcycle, was only worn because the toy they made had it. This was basically an expensive toy commercial.
Such a disappointment after Batman Forever (which I genuinely loved). Ok today's "let's suggest a somewhat related film" - the Chris O'Donnell 90s Three Musketeers - and related to that Clue. Because Tim Curry movies are their own genre of awesome.

The women clad in lingerie, & skimpy outfits(ie batman forever) & the hypersexual look of the batman & robin suits, the saturated colors. All that. Tbh i loved it. Granted i was a child when these were released, but I still love it for what it is😂 these two are just so wonderfully bad. George Clooney is a great Bruce Wayne, terrible Batman. Same goes for Val Kilmer, great Bruce Wayne, not great Batman. Michael Keaton didn't have enough screen time as Bruce for me & I didn't love what we could see, but I loved his Batman. Christian Bale remains my #1 because he plays both so well.
