  • MINIMALISM and the secret power of impermanence » Minimalist living and letting go // Let's look at minimalism from a different perspective today. Something that can greatly help you with minimalist living, decluttering and simple living. The secret power of impermanence: the fact that nothing will last forever.
Impermanence is something I often reflect about. It may seem scary, but it can also be a great friend. It can teach us how to be a minimalist in a very simple, natural way. If you want to know how to simplify your life, impermanence can be a great tool to help you live a more minimalist lifestyle.
People often confuse minimal living with extreme minimalism. When I talk to them about the things I dont buy, sometimes people will ask me questions. Isn't living with less boring? When you declutter your life, won't you miss those items? Isn't clutter just part of the deal? I understand why people can sometimes think this way.
But for me, being a minimalist is one of the best things about my life. I feel more abundant than ever. It gives me freedom, air, gratitude. There's way more room in my life for the things that I find important, the things that matter to me.
I often share minimalism tips and minimalism hacks that are very practical in nature. So today, I wanted to explore minimalism from a mindset point of view. The fact that nothing ultimately lasts forever, can help us to let go of whatever is no longer serving us.
I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments section!
    Lots of love,
    🌼 Vera

Before I gave up watching TV, I used to watch a show called "Hoarders." It's one of those reality shows, depicting people who kept all their junk and lived in horrible conditions. One thing they almost all had in common was a desperate need to feel in control, usually precipitated by some horrific loss. I myself had been through that kind of loss. I developed a terrible problem with hoarding myself, I could barely move around my room. Finally I reached a crisis point and pretty much lost everything. It was one of the best things that happened to me. Sometimes I think our life on this planet is a lesson designed to teach us how to let go. Thank you for this video.

20 years ago I decided to have a garage sale . I cleaned out all of the closets and removed all the pictures on the walls . I even sold my TV set . It was a lot of fun! Now my free time Is spent walking around in the woods and along streams enjoying nature.

I still watch hoarders every now and then and I can't understand why people bury themselves in garbages. This is mental illness.
I began minimalist lifestyle in Dec 2017, where I lost my second parent in 3 years, and also separated from 10-yr common law relationship. I felt like my world had collapsed in front me and I thought i was good as dead.
I started to do small things to get stronger, day by day. I wanted to live a simple, free life. This was the best decision I made and I'm still a living minimalist today. I live in a boutique condo less than 500 sq ft in Toronto. I walked 8 kms per day. I choose to be frugal, so that I can travel more, visit friends oversea and experience things I never thought I could. Life is meaningful when you make mindful choices.

Oh how I would love to move a philosophical place like you're in now from the one I'm in now. What do I control instead of things then? Until I watched this video and saw your comment I didn't realize that I do that, cling to things in order to feel in control. Oh now I'm more frightened of giving those things up, which just now made me understand that I have something in common with those poor "hoarders", who are only miserable when it comes time to give some things up, not before. Oh dear.

I loved it! Sometimes it takes losing a loved one to set your priorities straight. I lost my mother to cancer 9 years ago. It was during this time when I learned that chasing after money and trying to climb the corporate ladder just to accumulate "things" was not was life was about.

I’ve never felt better than I do now, I started my minimalist journey a few years back and have slowly whittled away the crap I don’t need in my life.. I’m still working on it.. for the first time in my life I’ve been able to save money by eating and living more simply.. with some of that money I was able to take some time off work and take a week long canoe trip that I’ve wanted to do my entire life. I’m 47. I had the time of my life and would not have been able to do it without minimizing the rest of my life.. I still see some waste in my life that I hope to eliminate. I can’t imagine how much I’ve spent over the past 25 years on crap that has robbed me of what I really want to do with my life

Minimalism has provided more than a clean home.
While I was grouping objects I could not seem to release from my life, I set aside these troubling objects...a few months later, I had a breakthrough. I suddenly remembered a pocket of time I could not remember at all. Like a black hole in my personal history. The objects I piled in a corner were symbolically tied to a series of traumatic events when I was 13 and too young to process these unfortunate events, so my mind sealed the memories off so I could function (barely function). Now I am arranging to give them away to someone who needs them. Such a huge weight has been lifted off my soul. I look forward to the day when I am at peace with the things I own and my heart is free to live unencumbered by unresolved issues. Thank you, Vera, for keeping us inspired on our journey through minimalism.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your husband. My mother passed away over three years ago, and I came to the same conclusion. I began shopping all the time, I am certain to try to stifle the pain and sadness inside of me, and then I began to drown in "things" that wasted my money and cluttered my home. Discovering Vera's videos has helped me immensely. And yes, she also has reminded me of what really matters in life.

Lovely video, thanks Vera. I continue to declutter and minimise after starting a year ago and the peace it has brought me is amazing. We have had a number of bush fires os Australia already this spring and I can honestly say that other than some photos and legal documents which are hard to replace I am not attached to anything else which makes life so much less stressful to think that even if the worst happened it wouldn't take long to replace the necessities and that my stuff is not who I am. This is the best video about to live a happy zen life. Your strategy is also philosophical reflecting three essential elements in Bouddhisme - let go and live in the present moment and that life is impermanent - that is to say not letting yourself attached to things either physical or mental as nothing is permanent. Impermanence is also good. For example, the cherry blossoms last only two weeks but they will return the following year..... grief and misfortune do not last forever...... Live a good, simple life and live in the present moment - not dwelled on the past that you cannot change or worried too much about the future that hasn't happened yet. Then, enjoy the present moment. Thank you for such a philosophical but practical way of having a happy life beyond decluttering......

I love the photography you post and the philosophy you share. I am 100% convinced that I want to adopt a minimalist lifestyle. I am giving away and downsizing as much as I can. The more space I have the happier I am. The less space I have the more depression I suffer from. I have started looking at the items in my life as seasons. I had them for a season but now I’m ready to move onto the next season of my life. Thank You for all of your guidance and dedication to creating this channel. I watch almost every night before bed. I finally bit the bullet and sorted out a wardrobe that was full of what I considered to be my best quality/best label quality clothing. I realised that most of the clothing was for some “fantasy self” that seldom if ever showed itself! I let go of the idea of trying to sell it and decided to donate it to a Cancer research charity. I feel lighter for finally figuring out that hanging onto these things do not serve me. I need to have less “things” to look after and which take up my time and energy. I can see clearly now that everything is impermanent and time is running out. I am so grateful to you for helping me change my confused way of trying to feel safe 🙏❤️

Pouring your heart and soul in these videos Vera, brings so much
info and joy to many. Far more than you could maybe have ever
brought to people in the corporate
world. I was an external Business
Trainer here in Zurich - self employed. I saw how stressed and uptight most employees are /
were. They complained to me about their bosses or jobs in private. When asking them what
they would love to do - they answered gardening, cycle tours
or..... On further asking why then
do they not change to doing this or
that, the answer was always the
'Money'. How sad I thought - doing
a job one hates just for money to
buy more stuff, have holidays going away on package deals to
roast and cook themselves in the
hot sun and to buy stuff. Have
    always enjoyed my freedom and
just travelling on my own accord
with a small backpack. Ever since
the Hippy Days and now at 67, I still live doing this.

Great insights, thank you. Impermanence is a big challenge for me, I always wished for at least ONE thing to last a lifetime. But nothing does. And I feel so disappointed, because some things in my childhood were suggesting that there IS something everlasting, like marriage or having children (you have these people until the very end, right?). But even this I didn't get in this life. So I ended up quite bitter, and every time impermanence and change hits my life, I get reminded of this dreadful truth. Your words help me see this from another angle, and reframe the whole thing.

Dear Vera, what a wonderful and insightful videol i was thinking about your wisdom and i wish i´ve had that when i was in your age. i´ve put so much energy in my life on my apperance or what people think of me or how everything looks and just mindless followed the biggest crowd. your video got me thinking, perhapes decluttering starts in the soul!? maybe its not enough to declutter your surrondings, you have to start the minimalist journey inside and declutter stuff thats just dont do you no good anymore. its a whole philosofy , a way to meet the world around you. you must have courage to stand out and do your thing and i must say that you are an inspiration to me, thank you for all wonderful videos

"I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind
Now don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away, and all your money, won't another minute buy

Thank you Verda! I became a 'Mini' on 5-23-19. Consumerism & Commercialism have been my whole life. Mountains of debt and mountains of 'stuff' that didn't make me happy was the 'why'. Getting rid of everything that robs my joy is still a work in progress. However, the idea of what I DO want has been the answers to the clutter. I do want to be debt-free, I do like space and clean lines, I do want less responsibility of caring for my 'stuff' (ie; storing, cleaning, organizing). Taking better care of what IS important: my joy. Thanks for the channel💐💃

I had a similar experience with working in an office. Because we lived below our means I was able to quit my job. My health has improved as a result. I don't make much money at it, but I can focus on what I love now, my poetry. Since I've been decluttering my excess physical possessions, I've noticed my mind is also opening up, allowing space for inspiration. In fact, I've written so many poems about decluttering and simplifying, that will be the theme of my next book.

We are constantly changing and evolving. Sometimes we're too afraid to let go, even if we're unhappy, we hold on to things and situations because we're afraid of change, we like what is familiar and what seems to be our comfort zone. Letting go isn't easy, but it is definitely what helps us evolve and become a better version of ourselves.

I am a minimalist. As a matter of fact, I started Living the full time RV lifestyle 12 years ago. I enjoy it. However, I don't preach it to people. I firmly believe that there are many ways to be happy in this life. If minimalism works for us, that is wonderful. If having many possessions and seeking to be wealthy works for someone else, that is just as wonderful.
There seem to be many people these days who think that they have the only answer to happiness in life. Many of them think that just because they have found happiness in a particular way of living, that is the way everyone should live. I don't try to tell other people how to live their lives. For me, that seems disrespectful to them.

Minimalism was and is a tool like you said in other videos Vera and I have to admit that I function in extremes. On one side my house and stuff are ultra minimal, on the other hand I have way too much things in other départements like having too much vehicules which I need because of where I live and for what I need them. I recovered from years of depression in a short time partly thanks to your videos as well but I'm going down my owm stubborn and marginal way.
I'm currently working on a van that will become a sort of retreat and creative atelier plus a car that's partly in a state of disrepair.
I'm writing this at eleven o'clock after three day of bad and agitated sleep, being tired and hungry. My journal open right in the middle of the table watching and listening to the fire of my wood chimney with too much light to sleep.
My whole has been going better and better since last year and there is few weeks where I do not change in radical ways that go even beyond being simply hsp which is not easy.
If I would go back to the Netherlands I would not be accepted by most people because of my free spirited and different opinions, but I won't.
